The hiking portion of the tour does have some spots where good balance is needed as we follow and narrow path but has rocks along it. Also a few places where you have to step up over a rock or two" FALSE This was a hard, strenuous, dangerous hike. We scaled 4 foot boulders, scraped thru brush and trees, balanced across wood planks over boggy areas and went thru steep inclines and declines. You need to be in good shape and wear hiking boots. This is not a casual walk around Peggy's Cove.

Both Ryan and Dean were so great with our kids who were at times a little, ahem, cranky, and they enthusiastically joked with them and helped cheer them up when they were having melt downs. Ryan even helped our daughter find cool rocks at one of the beaches we explored. My husband is an adventurous guy who is from Halifax and has toured around the province a lot and I have lived here for 10 years and have done some touring myself and they took us to places neither of us had been to before. I never knew Nova Scotia had such diverse and gorgeous spots! While we were driving around, Ryan told us so much about the history of the area and it was absolutely fascinating. He is a deep well of knowledge which definitely enriched our experience. Both Dean and Ryan are kind and funny. We clicked immediately. I loved the adventure we went on today and our kids keep saying they want to do it again. Thanks for such a great day!

It is fantastic to now be able to experience a mid-morning or early evening sunset kayak tour in a pristine wilderness setting and not have to rent a car to get there from downtown Halifax! I've taken either ferry across the harbour with my bicycle for a cost of only $2.50 and then rode the bike trails/streets or I've asked for a free transfer for bus #60 to Fisherman's Cove. If you are a tourist with a car, or local, the drive is only 15-20 minutes and there is lots of free parking. I highly recommend Fred and his company and have thoroughly enjoyed this 'hidden gem' of Halifax : )

In the fall I spotted a poster on the community board at MEC (which I have never looked at before),…read moreadvertising a "fall colours" hike on McNab's Island. I was new in town, so I was feeling that particular type of adventurousness that leads you to follow up on these things, and marked the date on my calendar. A few months later the date arrived and at the last minute I managed to convince a friend to go with me. I unfortunately convinced her to do this while we were out for drinks the night before, which meant we were both still foggy when we got to the waterfront early the next morning. I was so tired that I seriously considered not going, but what luck that I did. We joined a growing group of strangers on the dock, paid $6 for our tickets, and got on the boat. Friends of McNab organize this day-hike every year and it's definitely worth checking out. For a nearly free ticket we were ferried across the harbour to McNab island, about which I now know all sorts of fun facts, and led on walks but people who knew all about the history, ecology and, for those interested, literary history of the place. Such a deal and such a great way to spend an afternoon. I will be watching for posters again next year.

Although sometimes, they do not seem to have any etiquette when pulling up to the beaches on the island. The take the whole beach, so no one else can access the shoreline. It is a heck of a lot easier to move a Kayak than to manoeuvre a boat. I have personally seen this on numerous occassions. If East Coast Outfitters is reading this, please remember, some people lived here long before you started your business here. Please respect this, so everyone can enjoy the great outdoors, share the beach line, don't hog!

This was an absolutely fantastic tour of Halifax and everything about it. Our guide Paul was so…read morepassionate and enthusiastic about Halifax and its history. Our tour lasted almost 7 hours and we were on a cruise ship and in Halifax for the day. He picked us right up at the port, had a sign with our names on it and there were 4 others with us in a nice van. A great small group of 6 people. We toured around the whole city, got to walk through the Public Gardens, stopped at the Citadel and saw the cannon fire at noon and the changing of the guard, learned so much about the explosion that killed many in Halifax and also learned things I did not know about the Titanic. We went to 2 different Titanic cemetaries and passed by even more. We stopped in a charming fishing village and had lunch at a local and delicious seafood restaurant. We could not have asked for a better day with a more enthusiastic host. He provided waters for us the entire day and also had a TV screen in the car to show us pictures and videos about all of the great stories he told us throughout the day. An absolutely fantastic tour that is a must do when visiting Halifax!

It was so windy and rough that you could not hear anything they said nor could you see out of the glass due to the water splashing up on the boats windows. While I understand they have no control over the weather, I feel they should have canceled the trip and refunded our money and we could have found something else to do that we would have enjoyed.
