I'm extremely disappointed by the experience I had at this store. While browsing with my young grandson, one of the employees shouted at him simply for touching a piece of clothing. He wasn't being disruptive or damaging anything--just curious, as any child might be. The way this was handled was completely inappropriate and unnecessarily aggressive. There is absolutely no excuse for an adult to raise their voice at a child in a public setting like this. It was upsetting for him and frankly, for me as well. We left immediately and won't be returning. I hope the management addresses how their staff interacts with families, because this kind of behavior is unacceptable. read more

My husband and I went into this store while walking around and the owner was so rude. She had asked us if we washed our hands before touching her clothes. And her attitude was so negative, not only towards us, but also towards the other customers. We overheard the customers leaving the store saying that she was very rude to them as well. No aloha spirit or love for keiki's in this shop. Hanalei was my home for many years both as a child and an adult and I was never treated so rudely as I was last week in this shop. The owner, at least I hope she was the owner because as someone who has owned a retail shop of many years, if any of my employees ever treated a customer the way she treated me and my daughter I would be mortified. We were in this shop for maybe 5 minutes when I realized my 7 year old daughter was hiding in a rack of dresses and while I was telling her she needed to come out, the owner came over and yelled at her and proceeded to walk back to the counter shaking her head and telling the other employees something about how awful it was as if I wasn't still standing right there. I immediately left and as I did she was yelling at us from behind the POS 'they're expensive.' I would never support a store that treated people like this and I didn't want my child to experience any more of her verbal abuse. A bit of advice I Heart Hanalei-- if you have an issue with a child in your shop you should speak directly to the parent not yell at the child or better yet maybe a sign on the door saying that you don't allow kids would be best. This was the last of the night and I figured I would wander around while they spent ungodly amounts of money on things they wouldn't be able to fit in their carry on anyways. Anyways, cool little place. I grabbed some of the Sun Bum sun block stuff. My girlfriend grabbed a decently priced beach bag type thing. The girl was starting her close down about 30 minutes before close and said they if we paid with credit card, it wouldn't mess up her count, we were cool with that. The staff was very rude and judgmental. I picked out multiple swimsuits out and asked about one on a model and she looked me up and down and told us "you can try it on but it's 200 something dollars" alluding that i couldn't afford it. I picked out the suit and went to try it on and she grabbed the rest out of my hands and started counting them, thinking I would steal it. Once I got to the counter to buy 2 of the suits she doubled checked and kept making sure I knew of the "great quality" of them. Along with all of this a couple next to me in the dressing room (which is just a space covered with a curtain) were obviously doing inappropriate things for public and the owner didn't even acknowledge it. read more

Came down to Kauai for a weekend staycation, entered the store and not a single hello or smile THE ASSOCIATE COMPLETELY IGNORED ME AS I ENTERED. They have a great selection of acacia, one teaspoon, and other designer beach brands (if you're game to spend $100+ on a single item). Picked out a t-shirt and a few stickers. First off, my debit card got declined twice. Then, I tried a second debit card that also kept getting declined. Had my brother pay for the merchandise with his credit card, and surprise! His card got declined as well. I asked the associate if she could manually enter my card and she answers with "no, that won't work". My boyfriends card finally worked, I'm assuming because his card has a chip. Buyer Beware!! You can not return anything in this store. You can exchange for the exact amount, or buy little items at the cash register until you've met the original amount spent or you can have store credit - which doesn't help tourists visiting for a few days. There is no sign at the register and no verbal advisement of this policy. It is stated in small print at the very bottom of the receipt, to be read after the purchase has been made. Not sure this is even legal, certainly not good business practice. The store is very expensive. They lost a customer for good. Plenty of other great swimwear shops in Hanalei. I have been in this shop a couple of times, one of those times I purchased an acacia bikini. I came in yesterday in hopes of buying a new bikini from the new acacia line, but had a pretty sad experience from the moment I walked in the door. No one greeted me. I smiled at the older woman behind the counter... (Owner?) and was given back a half smile. Still no, "hi! Can I help you with something?" I browsed through the bikinis, grabbed a couple of tops. As soon as I had something in my hand, the younger sales clerk followed me around the entire store. I went from browsing the bikinis to looking at the dresses (on the other side of the store) and was never asked once if I wanted any help thirty minutes later, just followed around treated as though I was going to walk right out of the store with the garments in hand. I had one dress, two shorts, and a bikini top to try on and waited patiently at the dressing room door to be let in. Once the young sales clerk saw me waiting, I was FINALLY spoken to, only to be asked to give her my purse to keep behind the counter. I politely obliged, with a bit of annoyance. I tried on two things... And was just fed up after thinking about actually spending money in this place. I didn't even bother with the two others. I got my purse and left annoyed with the lack of customer service and attentiveness and feeling like a 2nd class citizen. Such a shame too... Guess I'll be getting my blu moon dresses and acacia swimwear online. At least there I know I'll be treated with the respect I deserve. read more

I was honestly shocked at the kind of people they have working here! It's one week away from Christmas and the only thing one of my sisters wanted was a gift card from this place (they have a big selection of bikinis) so I decided to get her the gift card she wanted. Being that I live an hour and a half away, I decide to call the store on my ONE day off to see if they sell gift cards. I called from 9:00 am about 7 times and no answer. So I decide to drive all the way there, to purchase SOMETHING for my sister. Upon arrival, I ask the girl working if they sell gift cards and if I could purchase one, she responds with "uh I don't know". Basically after going back and forth with her trying to find out if they sell them, I realize I'm not getting anywhere with her so I ask her to call someone who WOULD know the answer..? She attempts to call "her owner" as she put it, and no one answers.... she didn't even looked around or even tried to find one. I ask her if they had a landline phone there because I had been trying to call them all day and she looks at the phone and goes "oh I forgot to plug it in last night oops"! Never apologized, never tried to problem solve, never even acknowledged me as I walked it! Terrible customer service! After 20 minutes of waiting, she tells me that she doesn't think her "owner" is going to call back, because she's probably surfing!!!!! I came in looking for a swimsuit; acacia, to be exact. However, after trying on the top I've been really wanting, only to be severely disappointed with how it looked on me, the sales associate recommended the mikoh swimsuits. I'm not well endowed in the upper region of my body, so the acacia suit made it look like I had super pokey nipples because of the way it was sewn and the lack of boobage I have to fill it out. After telling the sales associate this, she was so kind and showed me the beauty of the seamless mikoh swimsuits and said I was probably an XS, but I could always try on the S and see which one fit me better. I've nonstop been wearing the suit I got here and am so thankful that the sales associate urged me to try this brand of swimsuit on! Yes, they carry expensive swimsuit brands, but what I've noticed is the quality; they're top notch. I used to get swimsuits at target and now I'm prepared to dish out the money to get a suit that compliments my body AND that'll last. Such awesome customer service! Mahalo! read more

I bought a beautiful bathing suit for $230. Acacia brand, absolutely fitting and lovely, and the store clerk was a wonderful, a young girl that helped me try on like over 5 suits! Then I went home and my sister noticed that the top was a little loose, so the next day I went to the store and tried to exchange it for a medium instead of a large. I removed the tag at home because I thought it fit fine until my sister said something. However, when I went to exchange it, this older white woman behind the register said "you're putting me in a tough situation because the tag is removed, and it looks worn" I responded saying okay there's nothing you can do? And it's not worn I bought it yesterday so what does that say about the condition you sell the product in. And she was like uhhh Idk. She was just very dismissing, very rude, and acted like she was the queen where she gave no credit to anyone. And then when I left, she yelled across the store to other customers "was I rude?!" And I said yes because 1) you're yelling across the store around paying customers and 2) you accused me of wearing the bathing suit that I came to EXCHANGE. NOT RETURN. EXCHANGE. and paid over $200 for. Very displeasing because i love this store and have always come to it, not like there's a warning on the tag or receipt that says "don't take tag off, we will be very upset if you do and nothing will be done". read more

According to my receipt the associate that I made my purchase from was named Cara. She was the snottiest and most disinterested person I dealt with in my time on the island. She had no interest, I mean no interest in being kind, helpful, or welcoming. I genuinely feel sorry for her as it is so sad to see a young person so bitter and resentful. Finding a bathing suit that fits me is always a huge challenge. I did find a bathing suit top that fit me at this store on 1/23, but they didn't have a matching skirt. Since the top fit, I decided to purchase thinking maybe I can find a skirt at another store. The top cost $115.18. Well...20 minutes later I found a perfect suit (top and bottom) at another store so I purchased it. I went back to I Heart Hanalei, same sales gal, to return the bathing suit top, and she said "we don't accept returns". They should post this information at the check out counter!!! I ONLY purchased this 20 minutes ago. She did tell me returns aren't accepted on the receipt, which for some reason she had forgotten to give me. But even if it is on the receipt, what got would that do if the purchase was already made??? I asked if I could speak to the manager (Andrea Smith) only to be told she wouldn't be back until 4 pm this same day as she was training another employee. I came back at 4 pm, different sales gal, who said the manager wasn't going to be in (was she avoiding me??) This gal said a message was sent to the manager with my name and phone number. Manager NEVER called me back, and whenever I called the store back, it would go directly to a "mailbox is full" message. It was explained I could exchange my purchase for something else, but I really didn't need anything else. Very very poor customer service. read more

They give zero shits about the people buying their product. There are so many alternative local vendors worthy of your money, but not these guys. My husband and I went into this shop around 9 am on a Thursday. We were the only ones in the shop. We found a semi-cool tshirt here and the only women's sizes they had were XL. We asked if hey had any additional sizes and they indicated they just received an order and they were still in an unpacked box. We waited for some sort of "I'll open it and check" but the woman seemed so uninterested in opening this single box. So I tried on a kids size of the same shirt and the women's XL. I let her know it didn't fit and she could've cared less. She did not give two shits about helping me find what I wanted. We asked her when the box would be unpacked and said "today". Digging for a more specific answer but obviously didn't get one. My husband purchased his gear (painfully giving this awful woman money). We told her we would be back before our dinner reservations to give her time to unload the single box of shirts. More than a courteous timeframe if you ask me. At least 8 hours. We went back at 6 pm and when we asked about the shirts, we received the same answer. "They're in a box." THE WORST. read more

I was extremely excited to check out this boutique after hearing their inventory included a bunch of my favorite brands (that are difficult to find, so I was ready to spend a lot of money), however my experience was very disappointing. It was so disappointing, if I could give it half a star I would (you get a little credit and rating to put you on the map for at least having good taste in swimwear). The sales associate, whom I'd hope isn't an owner because her attitude and customer service, pardon my language...really sucked, was so rude! I understand a 6 item policy, as I have worked in retail before, but what I don't understand is why I can't continue to look around with 3 items in my hand? When I asked if I could place my items on the counter while I looked around she irritably asked/told me to try on what I had in hand because if it got busy I would hold up the line. Instead of helping or accommodating a paying customer she lost my business because of her unprofessionalism.
