This is a shout out for Ian Geddes Tree Care! I'm scheduled in for Ian Geddes Tree Care to trim several trees at my property in about a week, but had a situation going on with a split limb that was hanging over a larger limb that was right over 2 car spaces in the parking lot. I asked Ian Geddes Tree Care if they could "please come out and cut the split limb off" so it wouldn't drop on any cars parked in the lot. I had put out cones, signs and caution tape in the 2 parking spaces directly under the tree limbs and the cones were simply moved over and the parking spaces were still being used.... Ian Geddes Tree Care came out the very next morning and cut the split limb and trimmed the tree away from the car spaces. Finding honest and reliable partners to help take care of your home is always difficult, and while I haven't signed up with them yet, I appreciate their thorough approach. I was looking into tree trimming for our corner-lot home and received quotes that were $5K and $6K, and Ian came by, asked about me and the house, and said that everything looked good and didn't want to charge me for services I didn't really need. He did his diligence, left me an estimate to consider as an option, and went on his way. I had four large trees trimmed a few weeks ago, including my street tree. The quote was more than I expected, but Ian Geddes came recommended by a neighbor on Nextdoor. My neighbor had competitively shopped for pricing and found Ian Geddes more affordable than most alternatives. Mario came over and gave me the quote, he was very professional and gave me some helpful advice on other trees in my yard that were not a part of the quote. One the day of trimming a giant crew of guys, maybe six or seven, arrived on time and they finished pretty quickly. Ultimately, my trees look great. They have been lifted and thinned but not just from the bottom, like an unfortunate tree down the street that was trimmed by the same guy who put in a new fence. A bad haircut doesn't last forever but a bad tree trim can. It's not worth skimping on trees you will be looking at everyday for the next 10 or 15 years. Update: I just discovered that Ian Geddes only carries workers comp insurance for himself and his wife so all those guys in my trees were a huge liability for me and those that used the rickety ladder left by the previous owners in the backyard as well. :-( read more

The health of our trees has always been important to me, and with the approaching fire season it is even more important to keep them trimmed in the hills. I've also learned over the years that the quality of the work is not always guaranteed by the name on the trucks or the business letterhead -- it all comes down to the quality of the crews. We had Ian Geddes out last week to clean and trim nearly 50 native oaks on our property. The crew was safe, hard-working, and polite throughout the week. They cleaned up everything at the end of each day, and made a point of checking in with me often asking if everything was meeting my expectations. The results were outstanding. Even my neighbors, who had another company out a few weeks ago to trim (sorry, hack) their trees, admired the quality work. I emailed Ian's office to schedule trimming and cleanup of 2 of my trees; a 50 yr. old Sycamore and an out of control Japanese Maple. After Ian came out to give estimate. It does not get any better than this experience. Ian Geddes, the owner, showed up on time and knew his business. There was no overselling. In fact, he suggested leaving several trees alone which I had planned on having serviced. The estimate was unexpectedly fair, particularly compared to some of the larger tree service companies. On the planned date, the crew showed up on time, in fact a few minutes early. They brought excellent equipment and the foreman, Cesar, knew what he was doing. After the work was completed, they cleaned up, swept up, stacked some firewood which resulted from some smaller oaks and left things neater than when they started. Today is the second time we have had used Ian Geddes in three years and they did such a good job again, it seemed like it was time to write them a review. Dave has been the arborist who handled both of our jobs and I really appreciate that he wants to do what is best for the tree, not the company pocketbook...he actually tried to talk us out of cutting down the most expensive tree on our job. We found out he recently got sudden oak death certified through UC Extension (lots of arborists aren't formally trained/knowledgeable on all the techniques available to manage it), so we are having him back out again to help us test our trees next month. The crew today was very efficient and cleaned up everything at the end of the day, even chipped a few extra things that had been sitting in our yard. The final bill came in lower than the estimate, which I thought was especially honest of them since we had agreed to the higher cost and it just ended up taking less time to do everything. read more

Six years ago we had Ian come look at our huge redwood tree that was seven feet from our home. He gave good advice to watch it, and if we noticed the sliding glass door getting harder to open, the beautiful tree would need to go, before further damage was done to the foundation. In December we noticed this beginning to happen, so we called and David came to take a look, give advice and an estimate. Four months later we had our permit and we contacted IGTC, who immediately scheduled the removal of the 70-foot tree. The tree was neatly down in a day, the clean-up was impeccable, and the stump was ground out the next day. I asked for some of the mulch to be left behind, the perfect amount was, AND over $300 was taken off the final price. Friends have told me the price for removing the beast of a tree was very reasonable, and I agree. David and Lisa were a joy to work with, very prompt and punctual, and the clean-up was amazing...as if they were never here, except for the massive tree disappearing. I've used Geddes Tree Care for 20 years to trim and manage the more than 50 mature native trees (blue oak, live oak, bay laurel) on my San Jose, Almaden Valley property. They have always done a good job at a reasonable rate , they always clean up the area after them and they do take care not to trample the area where they're working as far as is possible when handling tall ladders. Several members of my garden club in Almaden Valley, Blossom valley and Willow Glen have also used this service and been very satisfied with it. read more

Based initially on a friend's recommendation, I called Ian Geddes Tree Care about six years ago to help restore a beautiful Japanese Maple to a more natural shape because the previous homeowner had pruned it into the shape of a lollipop. Dave explained that only so much could be done on the first pruning and that the tree would need additional shaping the following year, which made complete sense given what it looked like at the time. I was thoroughly impressed by the work done at that time so I had Ian back the following year. That particular tree is my favorite and it is thriving in a natural shape today and simply gorgeous! I have now hired Ian multiple times for additional pruning work on eight trees. From start to finish on each project, I have found his entire team (office and work crew alike) to be responsive, punctual, reliable, competent, thorough and professional. I needed to get some branches of my elms cut back so they wouldn't extend over the fences into our neighbors' yards and so they wouldn't be hanging over our house. Dave their estimator gave me two bids, one for work that would include trimming and thinning the elms as they needed, and another just for the emergency work to prevent more dropping into dangerous areas. We took the less-expensive bid and they did prompt, high-quality work right on schedule. If you need tree work done you should get at least 3 estimates. I recently got 4 estimates for the removal of 2 birch trees and there was a difference of hundreds of dollars. Ian Geddes had the lowest quote so I chose them. As soon as the 2 man crew arrived they went to work. They quickly and safely brought down the trees. They completely cleaned up the work site.
