This is based on our initial meeting; we haven't yet had work done. Charles (Chuck) is a 4th generation tree guy who impressed us with his knowledge of trees and how to prune them. He explained that he doesn't "top" trees to reduce their height, but carefully prunes back to a lateral bud that will grow naturally. His approach is more labor-intensive and his quote reflected that. Of the three arborists we spoke with, he was the only one to tell us why to move mulch away from the base of our trees and to include feeding our trees in his quote. I needed my pine trees trimmed as they are looking so tall and heavy that they may be hazardous. Charlie and Charles came to give me an estimate. They were very polite and professional. They were very detailed in explaining how to trim the trees without over trimming or potentially killing the trees. Originally I wanted to cut off so much of this one tree that it would have killed my tree. I learned a lot about caring for trees from them. Charlie and Charles were the 3rd tree trimming company that came to give estimate and gave me estimate on the spot. The other 2 companies that came out before them were fine (also polite and professional) and provided estimates within couple of days. I was calling around for estimates on getting my trees trimmed. Several different companies came out, stood on the sidewalk and looked at the trees I would like trimmed. They all then emailed their quotes. Natural Arbor Care arrived on time for their appointment. He talked to me about each tree, touched each tree and explain how he believes in keeping the trees natural. We talked about what was best for the trees - trimming and fertilizer. He gave me the best quote. I was very lucky that he had a crew in the area and my project was very small, so I received same day service. The 2 gentlemen who worked on my project, listen to me. They worked well as a team! They cleaned up everything beautiful. I had a tree fall to one side (trunk & roots intact) after the last big storm. Charles came out, gave me an estimate, told me precisely what they'd be doing, etc. The estimate was very high, but because they use hand tools versus chainsaw pruning, I felt like it was worth it. And it needed to be staked. Very expensive, but, this particular tree is a favorite of some really cool birds in my yard who will only eat under a canopy. Called these guys up, didn't get an answer initially. About an hour or so after I called, a woman called me back. I told her about the work I need done and she scheduled an appointment to have someone come out and give me an estimate. Chris came out the next day, so the one star is for that, unfortunately he wasn't very prompt getting me his estimate. About a week after his visit, I got the estimate and it was outstandingly high for what I wanted done (see my review on Ben Ruiz Tree & Landscaping Contractor for more details on the work). I was offered a 10% discount but that didn't do much to bringing the cost down, especially after what I did end up paying to have want I needed done. I want to make sure everyone understand that Natural Arbor Care did NOT come to my house and do any work for me, so I have no idea how good or bad they might be at what they do. I do know that they are ridiculously overpriced and I would never ever hire them to do any work for me. The best advice I can give anyone is shop around. Don't go with the first people to come out and throw you a number. Often times it's bullsh**, crazy high and you will find someone who will do the same job, exactly the same way, with the same guarantees, for a much more reasonable price. read more

We've had Natural Arbor Care (NAC) come to our home 3 times now: once to prune, once to remove trees, and once to plant new trees. Each time they have exceeded our expectations. Like so many ofter reviewers I was very pleased with their service. Started off explaining that my tree had been neglected for many many years and that it would take a lot to make it look nice. In the end decided to have them remove it, which they did a fabulous job at doing. I'm sure it wasn't easy because there were some large branches hanging close over the fence and over my neighbor's house. They also took out a diseased tree in my front yard. Guy is a bad actor. He talks a great game, very friendly and convincing but does worse than terrible job. Its get check and bail for him. He gets paid, then doesnt finish job and then argues with customer. I got taken for big ride very expensive. Outstanding!!!!! Charlie and his crew did outstanding work on a variety of trees. One pine in the back had several branches falling off. The crew cleaned the whole tree. Looks great and healthy. Did work on trees in the front yard which was also very well done; the whole house and garden look great. Here's the best part: totally reliable. I paid them the full amount on the first day, before they finished the rest of the work. My husband came home and got upset and said they would never return. But he was wrong. :) Sure enough, next day, Charlie and the crew were back to finish the work. Reliable, reasonably priced, courteous, professional (even after they had already been paid!). These arborists are great at what they do. I had them take down a dangerously dead 80' redwood tree and they had it down in no time. But was especially appreciated was their professionalism. Charlie and crew are tree artists. All work done by hand. No chain saws. The tree looks natural after the trimming. This takes time and costs. If you have beautiful trees and care about them, this is your company. If you want them hacked go to the other guys. I have a forest on my suburban lot. Redwoods, Douglas fir, deodar cedars plus 20 more. You have to take care of your trees. Esp if your neighbors don't and their trees get beetles, you have to protect your investments of trees. They increase the value and livability of your home and they give us oxygen to counteract your carbon footprint. Not every homeowner has the sense of what to plant and where. But for real gardeners with a design sense, you need to get quality help for trees. These are 50 feet tall. I can't cLimb them and see what to do. Charlie can. He has a great eye for detail. Now my tall trees are safe against winds and storms and look terrific but still I have privacy. Charlie did everything plus that I asked. If you just want a tree chopped go to the cheap guys. We have used NAC for several years for pruning and fertilizing our trees. Over the years I've seen all the trees become healthy, productive (we finally got lemons and mandarin oranges after 5 years of no produce), and beautifully shaped. Transplanted trees have survived and flourished. This year as an "add-on" we decided to prune and treat a large Palm tree (our daughter's next door.) Personally, I never liked the tree... they did a job beyond my expectations! Each day I appreciate how majestic a tree it is... and no more little palms popping up in my yard! Unasked they hand pruned (which is all they do) my oleander hedge. It looks natural and more pleasing than past years. They desrve to be rated 7*, I called them on Monday October 8th 2012, my cat was stranded on the roof of my apartment building for more than 12 hours. I called the Fire Department; Animal Control, Humain sociatey, animal trapers, pest controls, you name it and I called with no avail. Then I called Charlie, not only he promised to be at my place in about 45 minutes but also gave me a very good rate. I was quoted with one of the companies that I called $ 345 to bring the cat down, redicously high, I nearly had a heartattack!! His men came, believe it or not, two people and two cars. They immediately and with professionalism started to climb the tree to bring the kitte down. I was very happy to meet Norman and Herman, both were very polite, knowing what they have to do and doing it right at the first time. So, I took the liberty to spread the word about their services to the wild animal trappers, as they need this kind of services and professionalism. I solute, Charlie for his kindness not to charge me, I think he felt I was devasted from the Fire Department personall behavoir towards me. Great service , I had gotten 3 quotes to have my large Japanese Maple trimmed . It had never been done before and with the drought last year and with the El Nino forecast i had deep concerns for the tree I choose Chris and Natural Arbor because I felt his knowledge of my situation was the best and his crew was great On time and very pleasant . His price was the middle of the road , but one thing that stood out was the "natural" feeding that was also going to given the tree once after trimmed and again in the spring . I wish I could give a sixth star. I have had other tree services in the past which don't hold a candle to NAtural Arbor Care. It started with a quick follow up to my e mail inquiry by Charlie, a quick visit to my home and a very reasonable estimate. Charlie explained all that needed to be done and the crew did just that! Crew of eight showed up at 8 AM and the trees were pruned beautifully and extremely efficiently. Three days later they returned to prune a 100 foot eucalyptus tree up the hill from me and it was most entertaining to watch the same crew groom this giant tree. Natural Arbor Care removed a dead Monterey pine, and a dying Monterey cypress, from our back yard. The trees were 80-90 feet tall, bordering two neighbors' property as well. The job was done in a bit less than 2 days. Their people were extremely polite, efficient, thorough and careful - even the neighbors (who had much of the larger tree dropped on their property) complimented the Natural Arbor workers, and said they would use them for any tree removal. And the job cost 20% less than one other bid, and 40% less than our second other bid. I would highly recommend Natural Arbor Care - great job at a good price. read more

We hired Charlie and Natural Arbor Care to do work on several trees on our property, and they were fantastic. We had them take out about 4 trees, which was very fast. They also trimmed the branches around our power lines and lightened up the heavy thick branches that were blocking light into our second floor. The biggest job they did for us was on our 80 foot redwood tree. This tree was very thick and weighted down, and they did a great job thinning out the branches so the wind could blow through it. The tree was split at the top so they put a bolt in to secure it and make sure the tree doesn't pose a threat to our neighbors. We called Charlie on a Sunday and he came out for a consultation that day (yes, a Sunday). He worked within our budget and we arranged to have him and two crews come the next day- I couldn't believe how fast it was. The next day we had 6 guys going to town on our trees. After a day and a half, all our trees looked great. We now get a lot more light and the trees don't look so heavy. In addition, the team did a beautiful job of hauling out all the branches and cleaning up. I'd definitely hire them again, and have already recommended them to a friend who is also very happy with the work they did on her 200 foot redwood. read more

Integrity and expertise - these guys are hard to beat! I have been using Natural Arbor Care for three years now. They selected and planted new trees for me and have trimmed and shaped existing trees on my Sunnyvale property, including a priceless, 25-foot tall Japanese maple. They also do annual "maintenance" such as spraying for pest and fungus control. I had lost 3 gorgeous citrus trees (devoured by leaf miners and white flies) before Arbor Care came to my rescue. Charlie (the owner) is delightful to work with, coordinates everything, and keeps his excellent, skilled crew on schedule. They have always come on time, as promised, and completed every job better than I even expected. Of all my experiences with the crew, the one that literally brought me to tears (in a good way) was when I overheard (they did not see me) two guys discussing how big to dig the hole for a new tree. We spoke with him by phone the day before the work and he laid out his plan, and the following day the work was done. The crew was very responsible and the clean up surpassed our expectations. Called in the evening after regular work hours about a neighbor's cat stuck in one of our trees. Charlie called back and let me know he was checking with his team to see whether one of them could help. Within about a half hour, Herman came to the house. He went up the tree (it was dark by this time!) and after a some coaxing was able to rescue the cat. Both Charlie and Herman were great! Wow, I'm shocked that there are no Yelp reviews yet for these guys, and I'm happy to be the first one! An extremely profession operation -- thorough, quick, efficient, prompt, and knowledgable. The previous owners of our house did a hack job on the Elm tree in the front, and it was also growing a little too close to our house/roof for comfort. This tree really needed some love, and within 24 hours I witnessed an amazing transformation from an ugly, sad, oddly shaped tree to one with a beautiful silhouette that I didn't know was possible. We found these guys from a Craigslist ad for free mulch (which we needed for the back yard) and the compelling bid for the work was well worth it. They even removed a fire-blighted pear tree for us, did a deep root feeding for the trimmed tree, and cleaned out our gutters! I regret calling this company and would never in eternity ever call them again. . I got an estimate from Natural Arbor Care (NAC) , for pruning 2 pine trees and the estimator (I think his name was charlie) pumped up the estimate 4 fold by adding in "we can trim this, cut that" etc. I called and requested he do only the two -pine- trees and nothing else. He offered a few hundred discount on the total job. I said I appreciated the offer but only wanted the pine trees. He said he would only do the pine trees. I was not at home the day they did the work. I came home to find a voicemail with a request for payment. There was no invoice but the fellow wanted payment. absolutely nothing looked like it had been pruned . I requested the invoice for the work for my tax records. he replied he'd send the invoice after I sent the check. Then he emailed the dollar amount (thousands of dollars) and said he'd done trees and bushes and basically the entire pumped up invoice. I requested only the trees which was a much smaller $ amount.
