When I came in with my pup after what I thought was a flea issue, yet not being able to find any fleas, I believe her name was Diana asked me what I was currently feeding my pup. Diana quickly rushed to grab me a shopping bag full sample foods to try, with different ingredients and brands. I noticed a difference with in the 1st few samples that my boy could have chicken allergy. They carry the food you cant find at a chain pet store, including a large supply of treats, and other supplies as well. My cat is sick and had lost a lot weight. The staff at my veterinarian's office recommended going here since they carry some things that my usual store doesn't carry. Not only do they have more items, but the young lady Reina helped me immensely. Told her my story that my cat is not eating and Reina recommended many other things that were popular with other cat owners. Very knowledgeable about the products, she even gave me samples that I could try. Some of them worked, and it relieved me to see my cat at least eating again. Helps to have servers who not only know about the products but have compassion for your pets too. Nice store, very organized. Came here with my husband trying to find a new food for are frenchie since he has allergy issues. We asked the man who worked there and he was very knowledgable on all the foods. He looked up the ingredients of what we currently give him and told him what was bad in it. He showed us the best options for grain free food for our dog. Some food is pretty pricey yet it's pretty healthy. We got one on sale and can't wait to see if it helps our dog with his allergies. Sadly never returning after almost a year of good customer service. I spoke to summer on the phone who said she was the assistant manager, I drove an hour out of my way to go to the store and pick up the adoption packet which she approved upon over the phone. When I got to the store she wouldn't even face me and sent her associate Victoria to talk to me. Had she said no I couldn't get the packet over the phone, I would have understood and not gone out of my way to pick it up. Instead I went with cat in tow. He was so nervous he pooped in his kennel from the car ride. When I got there they took their time explaining to me why they couldn't give me the adoption packet I was so frustrated I didn't want to hear it. I get it, but how about you don't waste peoples time by telling them to come get the adoption packets if you are going to change your mind and then be rude to them. So disrespectful as I explained I was upset that I wasted my time Victoria she just stormed off. Won't be shopping here again. I'll be honest I wasn't my best self but after the hassle of getting there with a car full of poop and stressed out cat, I wish they would've been more considerate, professional or at the least respectful of peoples time. Today was my first time at IB Pet and I couldn't be happier with the customer service. I explained how my vet prescribed a lot of pain killers to my dog and I was looking for a natural approach such as CBD. The owner took his time to go over all their options and truly guide me towards the best product for my pet. He was writing things down, and helping me calculate the dosage which was extremely helpful. The girl working there was also very sweet and even send us home with some free sample dog food after I told them my dog haven't eaten in 2 days. As soon as we got to the car, I offered him some cbd treats and some of the sample food they gift us and my dog ate right away I'll definitely be going back and will recommend this location to anyone I know. I'd been getting my dog's food here for over a year and just never had a great experience. The final straw was that they have some kind of rewards program where you buy ten or twelve bags and you get one free (it's very convoluted and you'll get a different explanation from every employee). Anyways, on my last visit I was informed I'd only purchased two $100 bags when I know I've bought at least eight at this store. The employee just shrugged and gave some b.s. about switching to a new system. Why would that erase $600+ worth of purchases but not all of them? I can only assume the reason no one here can explain the promotion clearly is because the store doesn't actually honor it. That's obviously my main reason for not returning, but there's other things that just never sat right. On every single visit the employees just stared blankly at me as I unstacked and restacked their dog food to reach the bag I needed because for some reason different flavors are piled on top of one another. I don't need help, but the fact that no one ever pretended to offer a hand just encompasses the attitude of the place. Never once in an entire year did an employee talk about dogs or offer any informed discussion about pet food outside of what it cost. I'll be honest, the only competition in the area isn't much different. However, I tried another pet store by Cowles Mountain and it was like night and day. They told me why my food was a great choice and we talked about how ingredients don't always mean what they imply. They had a cute sign outside welcoming dogs and informing customers of the daily temperature. There was an inviting sense of community, but most importantly a sense that they actually love dogs more than they like money. I think supporting local businesses can be great. But this place feels just as local as Amazon and the prices are the same. read more

It takes just 1 bad experience for a loyal customer to walk away from a business forever. I have been coming here for many years exclusively. I have had a few minor issues in the past but nothing to warrant a yelp review.... Until today. I came in to buy a bag of dry food and some treats. When I was being rung up I noticed I was being charged $14.99 instead of $13.99 like the tag said. I mentioned it to the gal ringing me up. She said maybe they raised the prices and then had another employee go check. Sure enough it said 13.99 and not 14.99. She continued to process my CC and asked if I wanted a receipt. I always get a receipt because I have had issues before. To my surprise she charged me 14.99. When I asked her why she charged me the 14.99 and not the 13.99 she again said well they probably changed the price. I asked for a credit or to refund me which she said she couldn't credit me but could do a refund. I was fine with that. After a back and fourth of computer receipts and a ugly display of self entitlement on her part I decided to forgo everything I came to purchase. I don't know where customer service has gone but this girl had none. She may have been having a bad day but that just lost you a loyal customer. The tone and utter lack of common decency for a customer was appalling. I stayed calm during this strange encounter but believe me, I wanted to tell her what I really thought. She wasn't worth it. I'm sure this company will send me some sorry response that will have no impact on how they find ways to improve. Yelp is a silly place for those who want to vent but it also serves a great purpose. A business is only as good as their employees. A small business can go under quickly due to lack of customer service. I myself am a small business owner and this situation was bad. Always pleasant to come here. The parking can really suck at times, but that's not the stores fault. They are one of the few who carry Orijen and the prices are good. They apparently also have s better tasting trachea than other stores. At least my dogs drinking buddy thinks so. LOL. Staff is always friendly and helpful . Good place to find the healthier food grain free, raw, etc. They don't have all the better brands but they have the main one (acana/orijen). Their selection of frozen raw food is great tho! They also have a decent inventory of natural grooming/flee/medicine products. I do wish they had a bigger selection but I understand they can only fit so much in the store. Although they can order anything you need and have it in a couple days. I really like their buy 10 get one free program and the food samples. OUTSTANDING! 1. Customer Service: The manager at the telegraph canyon location made me want to leave my day time job and interview as if I was in retail in high school again. She is down to earth and knows all of the products in the store. If you need something that you found in another brick-and-mortar store or online she will special order it so you can streamline your purchases to just one location-preferably IBPet store in my opinion. Then, each support staff member is just as knowledgeable and passionate. I liked that they each have their own personalities and pet knowledge to bring to their interactions with customers. You will connect with everyone and you will leave feeling confident that your pet(s) are consuming healthy products. I personally wanted to go back after my first big purchase day and be present around so much positive energy. I noticed my fur baby enjoyed the atmosphere too. COVID -19 had taken a toll on us humans and fur babies alike, but when you open the door and are greeted with a "hello, welcome" that is your second home and family at IBPet. 2. Products: I have no clue why I did not shop here years ago. I did not hear about the 3 locations but having moved back to my hometown, of Chula Vista, I peeked over one day when I was at the vet. I saw people stacking bags of food and read the sign of the business. I kept what I saw in the back of my head. I as the pet parent have celiac intolerance, lactose intolerance, and overall GI upset. There is no cure but things like turmeric, ginger, and food restrictions over the years have helped. Rotties have major GI conditions too! I realized that while I am trying to find "holistic" ways to settle my gut that my poor baby cannot speak but he was. He would not come running when food was being prepared unless it was human. I had to add human food with his dry/wet meals. I was throwing $$$$ down the drain of poor quality food, and it could have been better invested in IBPet. I already knew the day I went to see the products and price points that I would never purchase any products online with well-known websites or use the two major pet stores know throughout San Diego County and Country essentially. I am very serious about just going into one of the 3 locations and you will be speechless. We as a community have really moved away from finding that one business and having loyalty. Think of having a mutual commitment with IBPet in the same way you had your favorite ice cream shop or a dry cleaner. This is just my opinion, but I saw how busy the business was from mid-afternoon until closing. You will be helped even in the last 5 minutes of operating hours because as the pet parent(s) YOU are valued by IBPet. Remember, "mutual commitment". Went in today to make my purchases & wanted to buy 2 bags of Honest Kitchen kibble & 2 bags of the freeze dried rabbit & multiple other things . Today was my first time visiting IB Pet store. My husband is very particular to what we feed our baby's. We just moved two hours to Chula Vista and finding good quality dog food is hard. Let me start by saying that I have never left a Yelp review, but I always use and trust Yelp for myself. That being said, I needed to give everyone fair warning here. I have been shopping at IB Pet for a long time, and they have always given me and my friends great customer service. I usually go to the Imperial Beach Location, and I've even been to the La Mesa store, but I recently moved and the Chula Vista Location is now a little closer. I went to the Chula Vista store on 9/20/2019. When I arrived, there was already one customer waiting in line, and there was no one helping him. I went to the back of the store to find my usual food. When I returned I noticed that the same customer was still waiting in line, and now there was a second customer in line waiting to be helped as well...still no one helping any of them. As I stood there in line, I asked the first customer if he had been helped, he said "Yes, but she went in back to get my food." I asked if she was the only one working, and he said "There were two other men working, but they ran to the back of the store as soon as I arrived and I haven't seen them since." Finally, a young woman came back with his food and helped all of us. I would have gotten her name, but at this store they don't wear name tags like the other stores. Anyway, I would highly recommend IB Pet...just don't go to this location if you are looking for quality customer service. read more
