Finally tying this spot after a long wait! So delicious! The lunch menu is an excellent value so this may become my go-to lunch spot! I had the Red Noodles with beef with a chicken noodle soup. Both were tasty and the portion size will give me a second lunch. For my drink I got the maracuya which was fun but tasted (and looked ) like an adult Capri Sun. I think I will stick to the soda next time as this wasn't worth my $1.50. The lady there was nice and offered great recommendations and it felt like a friendly neighborhood spot. read more

Not sure how they got such high ratings. I was underwhelmed big time. Ordered their steak. What got was beef fried rice for $19, there were small pieces of beef of different level of toughness. Seafood dish was so-so also. The salad was good and big. Variety of sauces was good. Bottled beer was brought on a half filled jar and no bottle. The server had little idea out the menu. It is OK for takeout for some dishes possibly, but not for a sit down dinner. read more

I can't turn down a good Peruvian restaurant. This is a small place with good ratings. I came in and sat right down. I asked for a recommendation. The guy at the register said the Chaufa de pollo. Exactly what I wanted. I sat at the window and watched the traffic and people while I waited. I could hear them cooking in the back. The food arrived and boy, did it look good. Highly recommend Icaru if you are in New Haven. We stopped here on our 3.5 month road trip and it was easily one of our favorite places we ate at. I love peruvian, particularly Saltado but I don't eat beef anymore so I went with the pollo saltado and let me say it was better than 95 percent of saltados I have had including the lomos. I didn't miss the beef! The chicken was juicy and tender the fries were deliciously soaked in the most amazing sauce. It was drinkable that sauce. The creamy green sauce was a great addition to the dish but it was so good on its own. The portion size was enormous! Easily had three meals out of it. My spouse had the pollo chaufa and we both thought it was one of the best chicken fried rice type dishes ever. The fried nuts (seeds?) they provide complimentary were sooo addictive. It was hard not to keep eating them. Finally the service was really excellent. The woman who waited on us could not have been kinder and more friendly. 10/10 all around great food and service. read more

On the one hand nobody really expects to find a Peruvian place in New Haven, and on the other hand it could just be the perfect hidden little gem. Icaru ended up being somewhere in the middle. I ended up getting the limo saltado which was made with a big bold flavor. Normally I would be all over this except the steak was cooked so it was super tough to chew. The fries were also stacked on the bottom and more like cut up potatoes rather than actual fries. The lomo saltado was so delicious and unlike anything I had before! We also had the papa rellena, which was fine but not my personal preference. The service was very nice and she explained some of the menu items to us. The inside is quite small but they offer takeout as well. read more

I ordered a few things from here to give it a try. I am not hating on this restaurant I'm adding my point of view. I love Peruvian food specifically their ceviche mixto. for the price I think it was extremely poorly served. It had one shrimp, four pieces of fish, four small scallops one piece of a small crab that had nothing in it. The other dishes were fairly served. Got two empanadas and the lettuce that accompanied them had brown spots. Maybe when it's not take out it's served better! read more

It was like being back in Perú! Me and my friends shared ceviche and papa relleno. The fish was sooo fresh and just the perfect amount of citrus. My only complaint is that there was way too much red onion. I had to work my way around them. I had the seafood chaufa and loved it. This is my second time having lunch at Icaru, both times for professional reasons (lunch meetings). The food is excellent, authentic, and generous in its portions. The menu is tasty and interesting and represents Peruvian traditions well. Outstanding food in the heart of New Haven. It's a small, clean place with huge portion sizes. The service was attentive and the staff were friendly and helpful in explaining the different dishes. I had the lomo saltado (classic Peruvian stir-fried beef dish with fries) and my dining partner had a Peruvian rotisserie chicken sandwich. The food is flavorful and an assortment of sauces were provided to add different flavor profiles - spicy, sweet, tangy, etc. We sampled some sauces, which tasted great, but the food was well-seasoned, so we did not need to add any sauces. We both left happy and full. On another date, I also ordered an arroz con mariscos (rice with seafood). There was many pieces of seafood (mussels, crab, shrimp, squid) and it reminded me of the times I had paella in Spain. I ordered half chicken with fries and salad. The chicken was rubbery and lacked flavor. It had a hint of some thinking but not good. The fries need to be cooked longer and have some salt added. Unbelievable lomo saltado. Lomo saltado is my favorite dish of all time and I've had it from probably about 30 different peruvian restaurants. I'm going to be honest and say that the lomo from this place is one of the best I've ever had. The steak is not over cooked like most, the soy flavor is just right, the steak portion is good (although I would never complain about getting extra steak) and the overall portion is a good size.
