This rating is for the food as I only ordered takeout from them. I have had the jalea personal and the special chaufa. The jalea is a fried seafood platter with fried yucca. Every time I have ordered it has been delicious. The arroz chaufa is Peruvian take on fried rice and the special has shrimp, chicken and steak. Cooked to perfection. Everything about this place was great except for the food, hints the 3 stars. I got the fried trout, and it didn't taste like anything. It just tasted like oil. It is apparent that they don't season the fish before put the fish in the batter. It was also not firm or crispy after frying it. It was soft in the middle. Salt and lemon couldn't help it. Recommended by a friend originally from Central America who said the ceviche here is great- definitely agree and glad I found out about this randomly authentic place. It's so close to East Rock by car, just across the bridge. Fish Ceviche was plentiful, and spice level was appetizing, and had same lime-citrusy flavor profile as ceviche I had in Lima. It also came with some yucca (white root veg) and sweet potato that was surprisingly sweet and added to the yummy soft chew. No off flavor, no gummyness. The sauce for the lomo saltado (typical Peruvian beef dish) was really yummy and enjoyed drowning my crispy fries in them. The beef was a little on the chewy side, not really sure why but on the upside I didn't feel greasy-terrible afterwards. There were these fat clam ceviche things that were really good too, with green shells. Fresh, chunky, and citrusy..! Not a lot of mom and pop places do this, but the tables had clean and pretty table clothes, dishes were all nicely plated, pretty cute place. The kindest owners you'll ever meet! It seems like a family run operation. Unfortunately I only got to visit during corona so I had to get take out, but man would I love to stay and order a few dishes. The seafood dish I ordered was of the best quality, super fresh. And when I came to pick it up the owner gave me a taste test of fried mussels they were brewing up in the kitchen. Ordered take out and spent a fortune for hardly any food, if people spend $20 on one dish it shouldn't be looking like a lunch special. Half the styrofoam packaging was rice, if I wanted that much I would have ordered a side. There may not be many Peruvian places around here but its still not worth the money, I'll wait till I'm in NY where lomo saltado never costs $20 and you get far more. We had a delightful lunch special there. Surprisingly good and affordable. The incredibly friendly hostess does not speak much English and tried so hard to accommodate us. Apparently English speakers are not regularly coming through for lunch. We have an interest in visiting Peru someday so this was our chance to test the cuisine. I had a really nice experience at Sabor Peru this past weekend. I was about to drop my friend off at Tweed, and we came across this place that was conveniently on the way to the airport. We had also both been wanting Peruvian food. Everyone was friendly when we walked in, and the decor was super cute. There were tasteful touches all over the restaurant that made for a cozy, family-friendly vibe. Before we ordered, our server brought over a snack for us that was similar to corn kernels. It was salty and delicious paired with the accompanying green sauce. For my meal, I ordered the chicken pesto spaghetti and my friend ordered the same, except with steak instead of chicken. We each loved our meals. The pasta tasted like it had just been freshly made, and the pesto was so creamy and delicious. The chicken was tender and afterwards I felt like I had such a great comfort meal. I was able to have the other half of my food for dinner the next evening. I would definitely love to come back and try some of their other dishes, like the ceviche. read more

I had higher expectations, specially because it has 4 starts here on yelp but the food could definitely be improved. Mix ceviche was done with cooked fish, the excuse was that it has been seating on the lemon sauce for too long but why make it in advance? Ceviche is done with raw fish and preparation really doesn't take long, so it should be made fresh with each order so that the first doesn't get firm. Also, the steak used in tallarines was way to thin, why ask how we want the steak cooked if its impossible for restaurant to make it rare (to thin). My wife, two kids and I were traveling from NY to visit family in Boston and on the drive we were craving Peruvian food, specifically ceviche. We looked up the best Peruvian restaurants in New Haven and Sabor Peru came up. We were a little skeptical driving up as it's unassuming from the outside and we almost drove past it. However once you go inside you are transported to Peru with wonderful decorations, very clean environment and friendly staff. The food was AMAZING! Everything we ordered was fresh, healthy portions and delicious. We ordered two dishes of the ceviche pescado, the fried plantains, and a shrimp specialty dish. All the vegetables were so fresh and the tomatoes were ripe and delicious. The kids had grilled chicken breast and slices of hotdogs and French fries and they devoured it. We will definitely be coming back next time we are in the area. If you like fresh, authentic and delicious Peruvian food definitely check out Sabor Peru. Well worth it. read more
