I've been to Ice Castle several times recently to watch hockey practices and games. It's a great location, central to the South Hills, and it offers more than just one rink. There's a gymnastics facility, a hockey equipment store on site, and two rinks for double the fun! The snack bar offers everything from pizza to pretzels, not gourmet, and it's cash-only. Same goes for the side bar (which offers a view of the main hockey rink). There are also party rooms for birthday events and the like! Check it out! read more

Overall, it's nice that kids have a place to go and skate and socialize. But if they're only going to be there for a half an hour at the end of a session it should not cost $15 per person to skate. And it absolutely should not cost someone $15 who is not even skating. That's absolutely ridiculous. Families can't afford that for 30 minutes of fun. read more

Public Skate Review - I'm not sure if this place was having a bad night, but something was telling me this was all normal. Obviously this business cannot control who comes into the facility, but they sure can control what goes on in that building. The way these kids were skating was absolutely a danger to everyone around them. And do you know what the skate guards did? Found their group of friends attending the public skate to stand there and do nothing. Honestly embarrassing. read more

Awesome place with one amazing rink and the place is huge and they have a big tv in the lobby and they also have a nice restaurant and snack bar and they have a nice fitness center and hockey stone wish the air conditioning of the rink could be better but it was still awesome. read more

While I'll try skating just about anywhere at least once, I'm a (solo) figure skater, so skating on :hockey ice" isn't ideal for figure skating, because the ice is very different. Hockey players like "fast ice", that is ice usually around 16 F. Fast ice is smoother, not as "chippy" or rough. Figure skaters require "slow ice", which is warmer (around 22 degrees F), softer (for jumps, etc.), and a bit "rougher" surface. read more

Had my sons birthday party here and honestly wasn't impressed. Observed two employees have a verbal argument. The pizza was worse than one U would get in the frozen section at your supermarket. They did not have anything to assist new skaters such as buckets or walkers. If given the chance again I wouldn't have another party here. Prices are way to high for what u get. On a positive note the birthday cake was very good. Very pleasantly surprised by this. read more

Ice Castle - Worst party pizza I ever had.....Just being honest - Skating Rinks Near Me - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

I decided to come here with a few friends after the change in weather. I know this place is indoors but it just seems more right to come when it's getting wintery outside. On walking in it was very empty and slow but the lady upfront helping out was so helpful and nice. It cost about ten bucks to go for two hours and that includes skate Rentals. They do offer figure skating and hockey skates. One thing to know the skates only go up to size 13 my friend wore a size 15 and they didn't have his size so that was a bummer. He squeezed into the 13 and got some foot cramps but he rode it out. This place seems to have a full bar and a food stand but none of that was open. They do have some machines so you can get some drinks like water pop or Gatorade plus candy bars or protein bars. They even have a small game room here. Honestly I was pretty happy with the service and thought the place was kept clean and didn't have a bad smell to it. Overall I'm definitely going to be returning here soon. read more

Disclaimer: this review is from the perspective of a parent of a youth amateur hockey player. Ice Castle is a nice arena, possibly the nicest in the South Hills. There are two sheets of ice with ample spectator seating with a clear, unobstructed view of the ice. The rinks are very well lit, and very well maintained. The bleachers are wood which is not as cold as aluminum, and not noisy like aluminum. (This is important because young kids love to run on the bleachers that are aluminum because of the noise they can make.) There is also viewing from outside the rink on a balcony with tables and chairs accessible from the lobby. The lobby is also large, and includes a large projection TV and smaller LCD TV's that usually play the important professional sports games going on. They have a newly renovated pro shop which is always important to have at a hockey rink. They have a fantastic snack bar with a short order grill where breakfast is served all day. And fresh coffee! The parking out front is ample, and there is more on the side of the building. These amenities make Ice Castle and ideal rink for weekend tournaments. So why doesn't this rink warrant a 5 star rating? Well, another offering in the lobby is a bar. Tournament parents too often pass time in the bar drinking beer, watching sports and socializing with other tournament parents between games. When they later watch their kid's next game, they have a tendency to start heckling the kids on the opposing team, which often brings on a response from those kids' parents and it just goes down from there. Nevertheless this is a very good rink for ice hockey, and a fantastic venue for hockey tournaments. read more

Cold, very cold. Power and gas shut off to the spectators heaters with no intention of usage. Concessions closed on a packed senior night before ice cut/intermission. Not looking forward to future games there. read more

I thought this place was cool. Get it? ... ok , anyway as far as ice rinks go I thought it was just fine. I was here for a hockey tournament and not some annoying kids theme birthday party with clowns and shit. My greatest concern is not the qualiy of pizza in the snack bar but if the can has toilet paper and working johns by day #2 of the tournament. I'm just glad to walk through the parking lot and not step on broken beer bottles. Which begs the question....why do soccer moms feel they have to compete to have the best birthday party gig for their kids? Seriously, you are probably flirting with a law suit scenerio when you hold a party at a place that almost guarantees injury. I know....you always feel obligated to invite the kid that has a.d.d. issues or is on 18 different medications and has to be pushed around in an iron lung. Your choice I guess....but when little Malachi gets wigged out on Mountian Dew and bounces his coconut face first on the ice knocking his front teeth out.... I'll say I told you so. Anyway....the ice was fine, the facility was extremely clean (all weekend) and bonus....the coat hooks are high on the wall in the locker room (this puts your jacket higher than your head when you sit on the bench). Bottom line: Party time? Keep Dewey Cheatum and Howe on speed dial, mom. read more

skates were terrible, and we were told there were no skates with laces even though we could clearly see them in the skate renal. the ice was patchy with cement showing and lots of divits and bumps. the lady at the front desk took my shoes in exchange for the skates and they came back to me damaged. would not recommend. read more

Attended a youth hockey tournament. The facilities seem nice, two sheets of ice, nice bleachers. My biggest complaint is the reliability of the free WiFi. Having a dumb phone and my tablet I wanted to be able to surf and post before, during and after the games. Unfortunately most of the time the WiFi was down. There is a lot of downtime especially before games where having working WiFi was be great. read more

I've given this place a few chances and have been disappointed each time. Do not even bother with the snack bar as my food has come out cold on two occasions. The staff is rude and made it uncomfortable for myself and my family. read more

Went to Ice Castle today (Sunday March 12, 2017) for their 12pm to 2pm Public Session. I was alarmed at how out of control the session was. The guards did nothing to stop the dangerous behavior of a dozen or so teenage boys. I couldn't believe that they allowed these boys to play tackle football on the session with a hockey glove! They were racing around in all directions wildly. Advanced hockey players were practicing in the middle where beginners are supposed to be safe. I went to the front desk twice to complain, as I was skating with a 6 year old, and each time was told that they had spoken to the guards and that was all they could do. I spoke to another parent who said that Ice Castles had started to go down hill and that their sessions were all now free for alls. Parents be advised......this rink does not demand compliance to the industry standard Public Session policies. read more

Pros: Helpful off-ice staff; plastic skates with click-locks instead of laces (great for beginners!). Cons: Friday nights are dangerous. When we first arrived, there was lots of horseplay., racing, slamming into walls, etc. There were three staff members on the ice, and they didn't do anything to stop it. They seemed more interested in hanging out with each other. It got better as the evening went on, but I think we'll stick to Saturday afternoons from now on. read more

i love it here! i come a lot and it's super fun. but i did have a few incidents. the first being when i was with a group of 6 people. i'm 10 years old and was with my friends and 1 parent. me and one of my friends were about to enter the ice near the little doorways and a boy stopped us. he held out my hands and asked "is this how big my d*** is?". i obviously didn't know so i responded with a solid " i don't know". he then held out my hands wider and said "how about now". i stood there and once again said "i don't know". he then said "don't worry, i'm not going to rape you. i have a girlfriend" and he continued to hug his supposed "girlfriend. his other friends chuckled and me and my friends angrily pushed past them onto the ice. after a few moments, a girl accidentally bumped into me. before i could even say sorry, the boy swooped up to me and grabbed my hips, grabbing them so hard i thought they would snap. he said "i'll help you". i started to scream because i didn't know what was going on and i don't like when people touch me while skating cause i think i'll fall. me and my friend got off of he ice and told the others what just had happened. one of my friends gullibly yelled "i'm getting security. i guess the group of teens heard her and started to hide the boy and help him leave. long story short we had about an hour search party for this dipstick and wasted our time. luckily, the security guard found him outside waiting for a ride. he brought the boy to me and made him apologize. that was probably my worst night here but i won't let it get in the way of me having a good time. this next story is about the staff, or dare i say one female employee. so one time i checked it some skates and the straps were broken and took small. i took them back to the girl and told her what was wrong. she gave me a dirty look, rolled her eyes, and said "um okay" and she grabbed them out of my hands. she angrily got me a new pair and i scurried away. on another night, the same night of the stupid boy story, i saw the same employee out on the ice. she was skating around while on the job with another employee and they were just laughing and talking not even supervising the skaters. super bad workers. the food is WAY too overpriced and i always just get a pretzel but it always washes away the rest of my money. everything else is pretty good other than the horrible skates that they provide. before i got my own, they were too hard and stiff and pushed into your feet like knives. the straps never work and always come undone. other than hat i always have a good time! read more

Nice facility but they don't turn on the overhead heat bars in the rink. Very cold to watch a game in even buy usual local rink standards.

My grandson is 3and taking lessons, that is they got paid to give him lessons but it seems they got paid to stand around and ignore him! Very unprofessional and actually rude. More interested in talking to each other. read more
