Ice Cream on 9 makes all their ice cream on location. And it's good. Most importantly, I've never had anything freezer burned from here so that's always a plus. I heard that every time someone eats a freezer burned ice cream cone an angel slowly burns alive while its family watches. They have one flavor called "smurf" which is blueberry ice cream with marshmallows in it. First of all, it's yummy, which is awesome. Second of all, it'll make you feel young again, which is even more awesome. Third of all, they'll make you a milkshake out of it, which is super mega awesome. Have you ever had a blueberry milkshake with marshmallows in it? Yeah, I didn't think so. Update 2017. If you own an ice cream place, have a great product and a loyal customer base in a prime location, you should probably love your job and your customers. If you don't love either, sell the business or shut it down to save all parties from your pitiful lack of enthusiasm for your own business and your increasingly overt contempt for your customers. I don't live near this place anymore, but we still try to drive 45 minutes a couple of times each summer because it has memories for us. This review is based solely on my experience with the older man whom I believe is the owner. Last night, my husband and I took our son and several friends for ice cream. After paying, the man came to the register to talk to us, telling us how his employees give free ice cream/ samples to their friends and he didn't know the boys were with us, so he apologized. I at this point had no clue what he was talking about. So I asked the boys, and they said they asked for samples and were told no and then it all made sense because I noticed the owner staring and watching the boys the entire time we were there. While the apology was a nice effort, I feel like he should have apologized to the boys, not me. And maybe you should reevaluate your employees instead of taking it out on customers, just because they happened to be teenage boys. Ice cream here is good, but I won't ever go back. I am glad we found this place. So we went out to Point Pleasant Beach for the day from Pennsylvania. Coming across 195, my buddy goes "This exit has a White Castle. After White Castle (it's a White Castle like any other, not really deserving of a review), we go across the street to Ice Cream on 9. The place really isn't anything to look at from the outside, but you go inside and it's an old-fashioned ice cream parlor. I was overwhelmed by the size of the place. On the left are ceiling-to-floor freezers with packed half gallons to go. In the back is the sugar free ice cream and the ices. On the right side is the ice cream waiting to be dipped. We decided there was 96 different flavors (6 freezers of 16 choices each and we didn't notice any duplicates). So after going through and narrowing my choices and then finally making a decision, the next decision is size. Did I want small, medium, or large? I chose medium and immediately regretted it since it really was a lot of ice cream. I had a peanut butter oreo that was very good. So it's a little far of a drive to get here now that I've moved, but this place has some of the best ice cream and italian ices I've found in NJ. Their soft serve is delicious and so are their hard-ice cream flavors. I've yet to order anything and be dissappointed. Growing up I remember a lot of stores in the location that Ice Cream on 9 now occupies and nothing has lasted as long as this ice cream shop which should tell you something about how great this place is.
