The halls are back filled with hockey and nary a mask in sight for many of the parents and kids, so I assume all those folks are vaxxed or ignoring the guidance. The coaches at least tend to be masked up and figure skating and learn to skate have their masks on. Parking is terrible now, whenever that apartment development is done, you can park in the lot that used to be there on the ground floor as an open Muni lot. For now, be aware that it can be crowded and you'll end up parking in the park or the far end of the lot if it's busy. Don't park in the bowling alley lot, they will tow you. read more

Class has no structure, one head coach with a group of teenager instructors help your children to skate with no specific knowledge or method. Fantastic rink - We've been going for years and with the new parking facility nearby, it's even easier to find a parking spot. The people who work there are wonderful and the atmosphere is fun!!! Went here for my friends kids birthday party and they did a really good job with the party. The food was good and they had a pretty big room upstairs for the party with nice views of the rinks downstairs. There are four rinks downstairs and they had a couple hockey games going on with one rink open for anyone. The ice seemed a little choppy and they don't offer ice hockey skates to rent. They have a snack bar and a pro shop which I can't really rate because I didn't use them but they were both pretty busy. This place can get really packed on the weekend so expect to wait on line in the parking lot and then again inside. You gotta laugh a little at some of the previous posts complaining that the rink is "cold".....lol it's an ice skating rink! read more

Came here for public skating. Saturday's they are open from 1-5pm. If you come when they have a hockey game going on, the parking lots should be packed. Watch out there's a lot of potholes - they should really look to repave that. It's a nice facility with 4 or so ice rinks and I believe a gym upstairs. It costs you 50 cents to rent one of those lockers (to put your shoes and valuables). They usually will have one rink dedicated for public use and it can get pretty crowded... though no where near as crowded as nyc rinks. One thing that irks me is that the rental shoes still smell. They either need to air it out or spray it down more! Pro tip- wear long socks when you skate. It really eats at your ankles to the point where you'll scab. read more

It's a nice place to skate in NJ, so far it's very orderly and not crowded. It can get crowded when there's a game but overall I'm happy, snack bar isn't bad at all, just simple snacks(pizza, nuggets, fries, chicken parm at times) to get through the day- Hackensack are famous with so much diverse restaurants around so you can reserve your tummy elsewhere. read more

For me it really was a wow experience. Got there on a saturday night at 20:30 , skated 15 minutes then they clean the ice and everyone had to leave the ice rink and at 21:00 i had the trill to skate on new ice and it was amazing. They have music, the place is not crowded, you have places to change, lockers if you want to ( for an extra buck ) For me it was the Saturday workout. This place is constantly packed to the gills. There are 4 ice skating rinks, with many locker rooms for the hockey players. My husband plays in their House League as well as an HNA league here. I frequently tag along to cheer for him and his teammates. I prefer when he's playing on Rinks 2, 3, or 4 since they have a viewing area upstairs where you have an unobstructed view of the ice and it's much warmer up there. He often plays on Rink 1 which does not have an upstairs viewing area due to the fitness center on site. So, when he plays on Rink 1, I'm stuck sitting downstairs and freezing. I'm not exaggerating either. I wear extra layers when I'm at the rink including thermal, warm boots, sweatshirts and down jackets and I'm still cold. My husband often complains about the temperature on the ice. I know you need to keep the place cold so the ice doesn't melt, but this is overkill. They also have a pro shop, a snack area, and numerous vending machines. read more

Not A Fan Place Is Extremely Cold Nice Pro Shop With Cool Staff I just don't care for the layout of Ice House Skating Rinks, has sort of a multi plex feeling, the rinks are very sterile with no character. I go for the public sessions during the week while the place is quiet, unfortunately the ice queens and power skaters seem to have this air of entitlement and purposely behave in a reckless manner. As a lifelong hockey player and coach, I can tell you that the quality of both the ice and the personnel at the pro shop are shabby and regrettable. The Ice House is well aware that it is the only real option for indoor skating/hockey in the area. You see this by the lackadaisical upkeep of the ice. At a recent public skating session over the Christmas break, I skated for over 2 hours. The ice was bad when I got on the ice with newly "sharpened" skates (at the "pro" shop). After an hour I asked one of ice guards when they were going to resurface ice. No clue. No interest in checking on it. And why did I need to even mention it? Finally, waiting for my skates to get "sharpened" at the pro shop, I shopped for a stick. The guy on the floor sneered at me when I asked if they had any shafts (since they also sold replacement blades, not so crazy). Told me no one buys those any more. I was wearing my St David's Coach fleece by the way, so why he would assume I was an idiot could only be chalked up to nastiness. The same 'tude when I asked if they had any laces with tips that wouldn't fall apart. He told me metal tips were illegal (true!) but again, the tone was so strikingly dismissive I had to bite my tongue. I would have probably bought a new stick, maybe even a pair of gloves...but I just couldn't see myself handing over any more money to this jerk. The skate sharpening was one of the worst I've ever had. What a shame. Management needs to stop taking its clientele for granted. read more

Seemed like a nice place upon walking up the long driveway to the front door, where the smoker's convention was gathering. Walking in though... it was pure pandemonium! Kids, parents of kids, parents who are trying to groom the next Wayne Gretzky, parents who are attempting to nurture the future Tara Lipinski, frustrated parents of kids who will never be anything close to the aforementioned, screaming children, frightened children, obnoxious children, and...well... There were a few nice ones there, too. It's just that the place was completely overrun by the former. The ice itself was pretty chopped up and needed a run over by the zamboni, but after an hour and a half of battling with criss-crossing skaters, we had enough. Play in the beer leagues here since 2008. Play mainly on sundays, the times are much better than what you get at Floyd Hall in Montclair. Pro Shop some of my teammates have complaints about, but I rarely go in there myself. Once they asked me when I needed my skates back (for the odd time I got tried to get them sharpened there), in terms of, which day. So I guess they get very busy. Can have many complaints about league coordinator, referees, and so forth, but to be honest, they all do a great job (which is hard to admit). Like I said, much better than Floyd Hall. Ice House, one of the worst indoor ice arena I have been to in my life. First of all the locker rooms are small and narrow. I am claustrophobic so I cannot get used to locker room with space. Bathroom is open to rest of the locker room so that's not good either. The rink is freezing, about 10 degrees at its highest. Hackensack is crowded also. Every family in NJ go to Ice house to skate. However I won't go unless my hockey team had a game at that place. Also I am not pleased with the location. I am not a big Hackensack person so if get the message what saying then you know my true feelings of the location. Verdict: Ice house is not a great idea to go ice skating or to play hockey. Prefer you to go to another near ice rink unless you live in Hackensack. read more

Anyway, having been to just about every rink in the tri-state for ice hockey this one was ok as a spectator. Limited 2nd floor viewing from the warm area. 0 rink side seating in one of the rinks, standing room only. Ice quality sub par according to my hub and son. The snack bar had lots of options though and the workers were super nice. I like that they make their own pizza (even thought I didnt try it) and they have more than the typical pretzel and junk snacks. Cash only. read more

Came to ice house for the first time and it was packed. Had to wait in line but when I did get to the counter, they were helpful. I went to get snacks at the concession stand but when I ordered, they said cash only and there wasn't an ATM. They suggested to get a gift card and then use it there. I did that and they were very helpful except for my gift card had technical issues. Their IT guy had to fix it but regardless of all that they made sure we were taken care of with our food. They came back later and hooked us up for our trouble and the kitchen guys were super great. The ice skating was awesome also. read more

Came here to skate and paid for 5 people. One of the members in our party couldnt get comfortable shoes due to size (and no hockey skate rentals available). We asked for a refund after he tried on two pairs and they refused. Offered a complimentary skate session despite telling them we were from california and why would we come back even if we could if they dont have skates that are comfortable for him to use? Poor customer service, dont go there. They do not put customer first at all. read more

If I can I would give this Ice House no stars. We've gone to this place on and off for a few years because of our kids . So off we went on Saturday 9 for two of our kids birthday for the public skate, girl at window very nice line sooooo long one person behind window, kids hated their skates because they were sooo worn, laces short those booth's are one dangerous incident waiting to happen. All the kids complained their ankles hurt, kids asked for shoe sizes they gave them smaller so they had to keep going back staff were more interested in speaking with their friends. Three of our kids went into the skate shop and was told to smile and get out , one of the dads got up and addressed the manager but we know he don't give a crap. I feel the Ice House has public skate because it's extra income without trying but they R horrible, many,many updates needed in areas,they treat the public like an after thought because they know their revene comes from their practices, games, teams ect but I want them to know while they look down on this part of their busniess their r parents who can afford to be a part of their Ice House 10 times over but their kids choose to do something diffrent so it's money walking out the door (something to think about) Our kids won't be back and yes we know they won't give a crap still but it's a SHAME there is no place in Hackensack you can take your kids for fun . OK, I've only gone on the weekends, which is asking for trouble because that is when every family in NJ seems to come skate at The Ice House. It gets really crowded, with every bench, table and chair taken by whole families or just their belongings (why do people need several giant duffel bags to go ice skating?). All the teenage employees were stoned out of their gourds. The lone guy handing out skate rentals could not get anyone's sizes right -- I kept asking for women's and he kept giving me mens. There was a separate line of people returning skates for another size. The adults' skates themselves need serious upgrades -- the lining was pilling so badly so it rubbed against my socks, the toes were fraying, and the shoelaces were either cut off or knotted, making it really hard to lace up all the way. The stoned employees at the concessions stands could barely keep their heads up. Seems like they are seriously understaffed on the weekends, causing long lines and things get dirty really fast (since there are a zillion kids running around). It's too bad there aren't many more recreational places like rinks around the area. Seems like children don't mind the madness, though. read more

For kid's ice skating lessons try another location if possible. If you look at their website, the teachers have really nice credentials (some Olympic champs). However when they teach kids - looks like that they are bored and more occupied with the notepads to mark something as oppose to teaching. I looked at the faces of the teachers - pure boredom, their attitude matched the facial expression - bored and annoyed. Noticed it with couple of teachers, then started paying attention to other teachers on the rink - most of them the same facial impression and behaviour (you kids taking my time, I have better things to do than to teach you, but i guess i need some money so i'll stick around - kinda face). Zero motivation. If you have kid who is really into skating and need some extra lessons to polish some techniques, maybe it's fine. If you want your kid to start skating, i would look elsewhere else. I'm sure they are all very good skaters, I don't think that's enough though when teaching small kids. read more

Largest ice hockey facility in the NYC metro area with 4 full size ice rinks. Very cold, especially rink 4. Ice House was/ is home rink for 2 of my sons over the year, it's a good facility with ample parking, well stocked pro shop and good snack bar. Its fine to go here and either skate or play hockey. Not as good as Wayne's ice vault in terms of ice/pro shop/entertainment/video games and even food. But much better than Sportorama and Mckay. Skylands rink on rt 23 i havent been to since it initially closed down for what seemed like years so i have no opinon on that. read more

The place is not accommodating to its patrons. We have taken lessons there but no longer. They give you a measly $1 discount on skates if you take lessons but wont let give it to you if you don't have the lesson card even though you are clearly there for a lesson only. There are no make up lessons even though they have room during the week to allow it. I agree the place is chaotic and the staff seem uninterested in helping out its guests. read more

Same type of business, ice is bad, concession. Stands are horrible my son got a cold pretzel and the kid would not refund my money. Majority of rinks have no benches. It's standing room or sit on one end of ice to watch the game. Horrible angles for watching, coaches scream at 9 yr old boys. Place sux. read more

I added a star since my son had a number of assist at this rink...unfortunately, my opinion didn't change of this rink..My son played 5 more games on this rink and he played on all 4 ice surfaces...Still cold and uncomfortable to watch the game and according to my son the ice wasn't that special. read more

Went to Ice Skating on Sunday. They charge $15 per person and have no time constraints if there are no schedule events I believe. We went at noon and the lady at the counter told us we can skate till 5pm. She was very helpful for us being the first timer. The ice skating was my first time experience and it was totally worth it to try. I will be returning again and will recommend it to others. Didn't try the food section. read more
