G's an amazing woman, and I'd have been happy just to provide the support to her business. However, friendship alone doesn't necessarily result in repeat business... The thing is, though, it's not the friendship, but the exceptional quality of the product itself ensured that the next time I am anywhere even remotely near Richmond, I will get more, because those bad boys were perfectly presented...and DEEEEEE-DANG-LISH-US! We got an assortment of flavors - traditional, red velvet, cookies & cream, lemon, key lime, and some others - and to the last, they were all a perfect, 2-3 bite dessert worthy of any palate, and visually deserving of placement in even the most luxurious dining room, both as travel-ready, individually wrapped items when removed for plating. They were a hit with us, and the people we were going to visit, and the hosts of a party we brought them to during that visit. Everyone asked us to bring more next time, as well. Most times when we think of cocktail pairing events, we think of appetizers, cheese or some type of finger foods. Well, 'The Sweetest Thing' took cocktail pairing to a different level to pair cocktails with their specialty cookies. You purchase the sample cocktails and the batch of cookies are included with the ticket price of the event. For this event, the featured cookies were a chocolate bourbon & pecan, raspberry lemonade (my fav) and blueberry pancake. The one thing I liked about the cookies is they were not overly sweet and the flavors were showcased. The chocolate bourbon bacon cookie was paired with a drink called the 'Upper East Side'. I definitely got maple and vanilla from the cookie but I didn't really taste the bacon, however I still enjoyed the cookie. The drink consisted of bourbon, lemon, walnut and aromatic bitters, and malbec. I actually enjoyed this drink; it seemed to somewhat remind me of an old fashioned with a twist. The raspberry lemonade was a sugar cookie with dried raspberry pieces and it tasted like you were eating a handful of fresh raspberries. This cookie was paired with a vodka-based drink with a cranberry reduction, rosemary, lime and an orange liqueur (sorry can't recall the name). Even though I loved the cookie, I was not a fan of the drink as it was a little too tart for my liking. Lastly, we have the blueberry pancake cookie and I felt like I was eating just that and when paired with the 'breakfast shot' it made the cookie complete as you got that pancake syrup taste....yum. The cookie was a sugar cookie with maple and blueberry dried pieces. The breakfast shot consisted of I believe Jamison, butterscotch schnapps and orange juice thus the syrup I needed for my pancake. I must say all the cookies were moist and just melted in your mouth. I would highly recommend checking out the next Cookies and Cocktails event. The cookie flavors change with each event. The customer proceeded to ask us (my mom and I) how do we feel about the cake that was prepared for a relative's 50th. We said it looked nice. However, there were water stains that destroyed the overall photo that was printed for the cake. She requested a re-print from the worker/woman and we waited for about 10 minutes then asked how long before our cupcakes were ready. She stated "about 10 more minutes" then she proceed to yell to another worker in the back. I'm unsure what was said because I don't understand Spanish that well. A few moments later, the cupcakes were made. ** We requested pink cupcakes with glitter in the shape of an L. Super cute! However, once we served the cupcakes to the guests at the event.. we noticed the disappointment on everyone's faces. Including mine. I describe the taste as cardboard and another guest described it as metal. The taste was awful. My little sister was so embarrassed on her 14th birthday! My mom returned the box of cupcakes with no request of a refund, only a complaint. We wanted them to know they tasted awful and we wanted them to dispose of them so they could see they were not enjoyed. Their excuse was that "pink icing tastes like that and it was the glitter".. either way, there was no resolve. Very sad because this place came highly recommended and I believe they successfully did cake in the past. FYI, the cake portion of the cupcake was so good and moist but the icing destroyed the entire cupcake. We hoped for resolve but I guess we wasted money. Honest review.
