Goodness. I don't know where to start.. I'm honestly writing this on my behalf of my mother and little sister because I was a witness. My mom ordered cupcakes for my little sister's birthday from this business. The agreement was to pickup the cupcakes at 4pm, our choice due to needing to make an event by 6pm for my little sister's 14th birthday. We arrived inside of the store on time and noticed that the woman who runs the store was dealing with a frustrated customer. The customer proceeded to ask us (my mom and I) how do we feel about the cake that was prepared for a relative's 50th. We said it looked nice. However, there were water stains that destroyed the overall photo that was printed for the cake. She requested a re-print from the worker/woman and we waited for about 10 minutes then asked how long before our cupcakes were ready. She stated "about 10 more minutes" then she proceed to yell to another worker in the back. I'm unsure what was said because I don't understand Spanish that well. A few moments later, the cupcakes were made. ** We requested pink cupcakes with glitter in the shape of an L. Super cute! However, once we served the cupcakes to the guests at the event.. we noticed the disappointment on everyone's faces. Including mine. I describe the taste as cardboard and another guest described it as metal. The taste was awful. My little sister was so embarrassed on her 14th birthday! My mom returned the box of cupcakes with no request of a refund, only a complaint. We wanted them to know they tasted awful and we wanted them to dispose of them so they could see they were not enjoyed. Their excuse was that "pink icing tastes like that and it was the glitter".. either way, there was no resolve. Very sad because this place came highly recommended and I believe they successfully did cake in the past. FYI, the cake portion of the cupcake was so good and moist but the icing destroyed the entire cupcake. We hoped for resolve but I guess we wasted money. Honest review. Hopefully, they can rectify this issue! read more

I asked for a simple round cake with minimal designs using frosting only, no filling, dry cake. I picked up a cake with fondant design added heavy filling and a strong pour over to add moisture to the cake. So disappointing. My daughter had only one and rest trash. There can be no greater disappointment than not being able to enjoy your birthday cake. A walmart cake would've been exceeded expectations to what I picked up. read more

The cake was delicious, but I cannot give them 5 stars because I was very disappointed in the customer service I experienced. Because of the size of the cake I asked the lady that waited on me to walk out with me to open my vehicle door. As soon as I placed it on the floor we noticed the icing had rubbed against the box it was in and had smeared on the decor on the cake. I asked her if they could fix it and she went to the back room and came back and said they could fix it for $20. I had already spent $200 for the cake and they wanted $20 to fix the picture that was on the cake, that took less than 10 minutes. The box they had it in was not appropriate for that size cake. I only drove about 5 miles to the venue driving slow and the cake had smeared again but this time it was on the back side. A cake that size should have been boxed much better than it was or it should have been delivered. Even though the cake was delicious, I'm big on customer service, so for that reason I will not going back there. read more

Have always used them and never had a problem until today. I thought when you order cakes they would ask you what type of everything you wanted on it being that of course someone can forget but obviously that's not the case. I have a whole dozen of whipped icing cupcakes and a whole whipped icing cake that doesn't even have the write wording. Being that only one person eats whipped icing the entire dozen of cupcakes will be going in the trash. When I called to resolve the issue I was told I asked for "white cupcakes" or whatever but you're the baker you know how to ask what a customer wants. Definitely will not be spending anymore money here at this point. But happy 42 tooth birthday to my mommy! read more

I found this place while traveling down Chester Ave. After passing by several times, decided to stop. It is located in the middle of a small strip plaza and can easily be missed, if you aren't looking for it. Upon entering you find the display straight ahead and the counter to the right. Above are several pinatas, leading one to correctly assume that it is owned and operated by a Latin. On my two ocassions to stop there, the selection was very limited. There were several slices and two cakes. All of them followed a common theme, white icing (really light and great) and white cake. The first time was more like a tres leches, while the second was more traditional, layered with cream, strawberries and pinapple. The price for either the slice or cake is fairly priced for the quality. So why only 3 stars? The limited selection! If they offered more choices, I'd likely stop by there more often. However, based on the limitations, I can only stop by when we want that specific type of cake they offered on the two visits. Regardless, if this type of cake meets your cravings, I'd definately encourage you to stop by.... read more

Excellent, moist and tasty cake! Only gripe...though may be considered petty...maybe....is that you don't have the full selection of flavors on any given day, but this is smart business really! You don't have to worry about extra inventory --which they may not have to worry about because their product is so tasty. That is probably not worth a star deduction, but I don't know how to give half stars. Always looking forward to getting our greedy hands on a slice of tres leches cake, but it is only available during a specific day --if they happened to make one that day since it takes such a long time to prepare and make. UPDATE: I had the chance to get a couple of slices of tres leches cake for the family, and I feel bad to say I was kind of disappointed a little, _BUT_ as far as the cake tasting fresh, moist, & void of the chemically aftertaste that I've experienced at the previous other bakeries i have tried tres leches at, Silvia's version is HEADS ABOVE the rest. For me, I tasted a hint of cinnamon --which was a tad offputting...just a little bit though... Only thing that makes me unhappy is they are closed on Tuesdays and close early on one of the other days. :( read more

Have been a continuous client of Silvia's Cake over the past 4 years and they had always done a great job until they didn't. In December of 2019 I ordered a cake for my daughter with a blue theme in mind and when I received It, it was pink. The lady showed me the receipt where they write down the order to show me "proof" that it was pink but turns out it said blue the whole time. I know ooob u uhd didn't mind, it was not a time sensitive matter but I kindly asked if she could change the color and she did. That same day as I waited for the color to be changed an angry customer started going off to them because she had placed a Real Madrid theme cake and received Barcelona. I experienced that customer leave without a single apology. Yesterday I called and ordered 2 cakes, a graduation cake for my daughter, and a birthday cake set for separate dates. We came to an agreement that someone was going to be at Silvia's Cake the next day at 8:30 for me to pick up the graduation cake due to my daughters VCU graduation party being set at 9. Well I get there at exactly 8:30 and see the store is closed, I waited and waited until someone arrived at 9 o'clock. We entered the store, not even a GoodMorning is said, I come out and say "GoodMorning I'm picking up a cake, but someone was suppose to be here at 8:30 I'm very late to my event" ( which is 30 mins away from the store). She comes out and says "omg yes, I forgot the cake at home." It's 9 o'clock and she tells me she doesn't have the fucking cake and that I have to wait for her daughter to get there in 15 mins with it and she STILL has to decorate it. At this point, I'm an extremely unhappy customer and she hasn't even apologized, nor said anything to make this situation better. 20 minutes pass, and her daughter finally gets there and at this point we've waited almost an hour for this freaking cake. She decorates it in a matter of 10 mins and asks if I would like to see it, I deny because I am in a rush. She then says "it'll be 55 for the cake" and I say "Excuse me? You can't even give a discount for all you've done today?" She says no. I go off on her telling her all the times she's messed up and that was she's doing isn't right. So I pay for the cake and go on my way. 30 minutes later, she calls me again and says that she will not be able to do my second cake and that she doesn't want us as customers anymore. And I honestly just hung up on her. That made me realize that these people rather lose clients than take responsibility for their mess ups or apologize for their mistakes. I am most appalled by their ways of handling these situations. Never planned on going back anyways. If you come across this and take your time to read it, find another place to decorate your cake if you're looking for preciseness and are punctual!! read more
