Speaking to a co worker about our fav treats and the way she raved over the oatmeal cream pie from Shyndigz I just had to get me one! I pulled up on a Thursday morning at 10 to get treats for work; parked on the street which was pretty easy and was blown away immediately. The smell of coffee; the beautiful plants up front; the fact that it was way more than a bakery and then there was the holy grail of baked goods. I was in awe for about 5 minutes. How does one go on and even decide they want one item? The establishment was clean; their customer service was great and I even saw some local gems in there for purchase and the cutest patio. Outside there was the coolest vending machine for when you want a treat and may be in a hurry or the bakery is closed. Hands down the coolest thing I've seen in a while. The oatmeal cream pie needs a review on its own. This soft huge cookie is one for the books. With hints of cinnamon and toffee in the cookie and then the best cream cheese butter cream flavored filling. I'll literally never be able to eat a regular oatmeal cream pie again. have been here plenty of times, parking is always a hassle on busy nights--a bit cramped but we've always made it work. service is standard and quick, but I also haven't had any interaction outside the dessert bar. all their cakes I've had have been so good. Their other baked goods are ok. This is a must stop every time I'm in Richmond. Each and every time I go the line is longer and longer though, so keep that in mind if you decide to stop by. The line moves pretty quickly and the sweet treats you leave with definitely make it worth it. I enjoy the salted caramel chocolate cake, but there is a plethora of treats to choose from and there's something for everybody from bars to cookies to cake and brownies. While in Richmond, we decided to stop by Shyndigz to try some of their baked goods! Unfortunately, the parking lot was small and a bit tight. After we parked, I had to squeeze out of my car in order to not hit the car next to us lol! When we walked in, we couldn't help but notice how absolutely beautiful the store was! Not only do they sell baked goods, they also offer food, coffee, cocktails, wine and an array of different items as well. I was immediately drawn to the plants. As a plant mom, I wanted to buy every single one lol. Since we were a bit hungry, we decided on grabbing some food as well. My sister ordered the Chicken Pot Pie and my daughter and I decided on the Beef Bourguinon and the Pepperoni Pizza. The other pizza option was the Chorizo with Hot Honey so I asked if they could add the Hot Honey on to the Pepperoni Pizza but they couldn't (not sure why lol), so I had to buy my own Hot Honey to add to it. While we waited for the food, we did grab some desserts. My favorite was the Rice Krispy Treats and the Shyndigz cookie! Since they had a few tables in the back, we decided to eat while we were there. The Chicken Pot Pie tasted okay but the Beef Bourguinon needed lacked flavor so we asked for some salt/pepper and it helped a little. My Pepperoni Pizza was actually pretty good, especially with the Hot Honey drizzled on top. Before we left, I looked over their wine selection and purchased a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon. Loved Shyndigz! Everything was so cute here and everyone was so nice. I talked to so many different people, staff and customer, and got all of their opinions of favorite items. A couple from South Carolina said they stop every time a get slices of Carrot cake to take home, since it is just so good. A staffer told me that everything was good, but his favorite items were the Sea Salt Caramel slice and the Fresh Fruit slice. Another said that she will always swear by the German Chocolate slice and the Oreo pie. It was a great experience. We ended up getting: a slice of German chocolate cake, a slice of sea salt caramel cake, and a piece of peanut butter/chocolate pie. There was a deal to buy three desserts, and get a fourth free. We chose the lemon bar for this one. Everything was tasty and demolished. The cake was moist and very rich. I did wish the slices were not so cold. Most things are kept in the fridge. This did made the slices a bit hard to eat, but it was not unbearable. This could be combatted by letting your slices sit out for a bit. My only real critique was with the lemon bar. I wish there was a bit less filling, to make the bar firmer. It didn't not have a good balance between being sweet and tart. It was good, but just a bit too tart leaning, for my taste. read more

TLDR; without a doubt, the BEST place for dessert! Vibe - this is my first review of shyndigz new, larger location. If you know Shyndigz you know it's always a vibe! The market is so fun to browse and there's lots of seating both indoors and on the patio. There's also tons of novelty items that would be perfect for a baby shower gift. Food - it goes without saying that the dessert is excellent! The key lime pie, s'mores bar and oatmeal cream pie are all ordered regularly in our house alongside the spotted cow and salted caramel chocolate cake. Shyndigz new location also includes savory entrees! This time we ordered the pepperoni pizza, grilled cheese and tomato soup. The soup was EXCELLENT but the rest of the dinner food was disappointing. Shindigz is always a number 1 go to in RVA. The food is always amazing... although I've never had anything besides their baked goods. I did pick up a cinnamon roll yesterday and my lanta. That was delicious. I usually go with a gaggle of girlfriends and we get cakes, or other sweet treats. The new location is great too. A lot more room to sit outside, and they have a cute little drink stand in the front. They do have some things that you can take to go. I wish they still made their oatmeal cream pie ice cream! Maybe they do and I always miss out, but I haven't seen it for a few years. Mind you, the non food products they carry in store are quite expensive. I've never purchased anything from there. Shyndigz stopped me at the door and that was before I even went inside. A clean black and white exterior signals that someone thought this through, and they did. What lives inside defies a single category: botanical bar, cocktail lounge, bakery, boutique, bistro. None of it feels confused. It feels curated. The chicken pot pie arrived as pure comfort, a dimpled biscuit pressed to the bottom of the bowl creating a moat of something deeply southern and deeply right. Then the Belle Island cake introduced itself: eclair cream, soft oatmeal cookie, a whisper of pecan, echos of chocolate chips, ganache-esque frosting. It did not ask permission. The cookie case is its own conversation. The peanut butter cookie. The salted chocolate chip. And then the swamp bar, peanuts, chocolate, marshmallow, chocolate, which is either genius or a problem depending on your self-control. The fruit cake layered with fresh blackberries, strawberries, and pineapple beneath cream cheese icing was elegant without being precious. Red velvet held its own. I feel like Shyndigz is Richmond's most iconic spot for cakes. And for good reason! They have a huge selection of delicious cakes and baked goods. It's moved around throughout my years here, and it's current location is still super charming with its local gift shop, coffee corner, and bakery section. This spot is great for cakes of all kind. You can even choose between three or five layered cakes. Their cakes are decadent here. It's great for gluten-free cake too. My one friend with celiac always gets his birthday cake from here. On a recent visit, I enjoyed a large (5 layer) spotted cow cake (chocolate with cream cheese icing) and a lemon bar. I came on a weekend and the line was very long. I didn't mind because I got to admire all the yummy looking desserts in the display case. This is a signature spot in Richmond for a reason! I love that they do cake of the weeks here too. I've been to Shyndigz so many times across there move and changes during Covid to their new location. I used to come here often when I was an undergrad, and they've gone through a lot of aesthetic changes, but the cake still hits the same. This location is right across the street from the Market ToGo shop where there's a convenience version of the main shop. There's a free parking lot in front of the complex as well as street parking. There's both indoor seating and outdoor seating, making this optimal for a date, hangout with a friend, or just to get a dessert after a meal. When you enter, there's a food truck where you can order a coffee or drink and then you can order a dessert made fresh from the counter and pay. We got the fresh fruit cake half slice and the chocolate bundt cake. Both were moist, flavorful, and the perfect amount of sweet. I ordered the fresh fruit cake. I want to say I love loved it but alas, like most of the times I've tried shyndigz, I don't hate it by any stretch but also don't love love it. In this case, a little more fruit would have been nice. The cake layers (vanilla) themselves felt just a trifle not moist enough. (that MAY have improved if I'd let it sit out and warm on the counter for an hour though, so maybe try that). The icing was nice (though even there, I'd rather have had more cream cheese so it would have registered more as a cream cheese icing and less as buttercream, it was a little sugary for me, which seems to be their 'signature'). The desserts here are absolutely amazing!!! You can tell they are made with love. A little pricy but worth every penny paid!!! I took my daughter on a date to their sister restaurant, the Fancy Biscuit, and we walked over after and it wasn't a disappointment! I recently tried the cookie butter during this visit. It was good however a little too sweet for me. They also have a Belle Isle flavor that's passionfruit cheesecake flavor that I love as well. Four of us stopped in to pick up dessert on the way home after dinner out. This business is in a new location from my last visit and it is much larger and has its own parking lot which is quite nice. They have a large variety of desserts like Oreo caks, butterfinger cake, chocalate carmel cake, etc and the slices are very large. We all tried each others and they were all good. My NC family wasn't prepared to just go home, they are looking for a shipment of these tasty treats. My MD family took 2 for the road...and dont have an interest in sharing .... these pies are huge!!! Bae try to limit himself to 1 visit per week, but you don't have to do the same..... they have a entire spread go try everything! The cakes are fresh and delicious also!!! My sister and I were craving something sweet and hot cocoa, so we decided to visit Shyndigz. We tried the GF Tiramisu, and it was delicious--definitely enough to share between the two of us. We also wanted to try the hot cocoa, but when I asked the staff to confirm whether it was gluten-free, I overheard a conversation on the radio where the kitchen wasn't sure. The server came back and told me it was gluten free, but I asked again and explained that I'm celiac and could get very sick if I consumed gluten. After hearing the severity of my condition, another server stepped in and said they weren't sure after all. I was disappointed by this confusion. Had I not overheard the conversation, I might have trusted them and accidentally ingested gluten. While Shyndigz is a chic café with lots of delicious desserts and cool items for sale, it concerns me that the staff doesn't seem fully knowledgeable or attentive to dietary restrictions, and are willing to risk their cudtomers' health just to close an order. My first time visiting since the remodel & I still loved it. The inside feels like a place I could hang out & spend money all day lol. They provided great service and everything tasted great. Chicken pot pie-- The broth could use a little extra seasoning but overall delicious. The biscuit was perfectly fluffy & buttery; I wish there were two. From my very first visit, the experience has only gotten better. This place knows how to deliver quality, comfort, and indulgence with every bite. I've tried nearly every dessert they offer, and while everything is delicious, my absolute favorites are the lemon bar and the banana pudding. The lemon bar? Let's just say the lemon is lemoning -- bright, tart, and just the right amount of sweet. As for the banana pudding, it's incredibly close to Grandma's -- smooth, fresh, and thankfully no hard wafers. Plus, the bananas are always perfectly ripe, never overdone. On today's visit, I decided to branch out and try the lemon soda, and I'm so glad I did. It was the perfect pairing -- refreshing, lightly sweet, and not overpowering at all. Our table got Belle Isle cake, the lemon bar and banana pudding. Another thing I love about Shyndigz? If you're watching your wallet, check the cooler past the register. I am always excited to try one of the gluten free cakes du jour. I was nervous that when they moved to the new building the vibes would change but they just got better! I am only marking it as 4 stars because the new building set up doesn't allow you to see all of the items before ordering.
