Refusing service and/or being rude to a service Dog and handler is not only unprofessional behavior, but it is illegal at both state and federal levels.U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division Disability Rights Section...Generally, title II and title III entities must permit service animals to accompany people with disabilities in all areas where members of the public are allowed to go. A person with a disability cannot be asked to remove his service animal from the premises unless: (1) the dog is out of control and the handler does not take effective action to control it or (2) the dog is not housebroken. When there is a legitimate reason to ask that a service animal be removed, staff must offer the person with the disability the opportunity to obtain goods or services without the animal's presence. Establishments that sell or prepare food must allow service animals in public areas even if state or local health codes prohibit animals on the premises. People with disabilities who use service animals cannot be isolated from other patrons, treated less favorably than other patrons, or charged fees that are not charged to other patrons without animals. In addition, if a business requires a deposit or fee to be paid by patrons with pets, it must waive the charge for service animals. Allergies and fear of dogs are not valid reasons for denying access or refusing service to people using service animals. When a person who is allergic to dog dander and a person who uses a service animal must spend time in the same room or facility, for example, in a school classroom or at a homeless shelter, they both should be accommodated by assigning them, if possible, to different locations within the room or different rooms in the facility. When it is not obvious what service an animal provides, only limited inquiries are allowed. Staff may ask two questions: (1) is the dog a service animal required because of a disability, and (2) what work or task has the dog been trained to perform. I find it very disturbing that you would not serve a United States Veteran because he needed to be accompanied by a service animal. This is a violation of his civil rights! You should be ashamed of yourselves! I certainly hope that he and his family sue you for the emotional damage you have caused a wounded warrior. This place reportedly refused to allow a service dog accompanying her person, who served in the military protecting our freedoms, to enter the restaurant. Not only is this wrong, but illegal under the ADA. These service dogs allow a person to live life to the fullest and enjoy the things that others have opportunity to do. Refusal of a service dog in a disgrace....I hope people who frequent this establishment question the owners, and if they have not changed their policy, please stop giving them your business. I am not currently in your city, however after reading that you refused to allow an American Vet in your restaurant with his service dog, I was extremely angry. The man had the vest on his dog that identified him as an authorized service animal and he had the official documents ( he showed at the door ) and yet you disrespected a Military Vet by not allowing him to share a meal with his mother while he was visiting her ? This has always been our favorite place for my family to eat, especially over the holidays. I have no complaints whatsoever. Service is good, food is the best Asian in town, place is always clean, and prices are very reasonable. I always leave a tip. As long as Ichiban Buffet remains an establishment in our town, I will continue patronize this restaurant, like I always have for 10 years. I see that this restaurant has several locations, so I am going to see if they all deny service animals. I will write a negative review for each and every one that does. This restaurant should be boycotted by proud Americans. A disabled American Service member was refused service because he had a PTSD service dog that assists with his daily living. There's also fresh ingredients on the Hibachi and free refills on your drinks-and yet they only ask $6.99 fro the dinner service!! I have been informed that they refused service to an American veteran and his service dog who had all her government credentials available upon inspection. Unacceptable!
