This was such a sad experience. For being a metropolitan area, Durham SHOULD have at least one amazing Chinese buffet, right? I was hoping this was THE ONE but nope! Not it. The building is older and you can definitely tell very little effort has gone into the interior. Boxes of random restaurant supplies leaned against the walls and in the corners. The disarray made the place look worn down and uncared for. The food was just "meh". It was your normal Chinese buffet fare that does the job filling you up, but leaves you with a lingering regret that you did not go elsewhere. I normally try to sushi because I, being the panda of a man that I am, love sushi. None of the sushi looked appetizing so I did not even make an attempt to try it. There were two dishes that stood out, however. There was a curry chicken dish and a grilled yellowtail dish that had great flavor and honestly saved the day. The service was a bright spot in the experience. The servers and staff were welcoming, attentive to the customers, and on point. I came in 1 hour before they closed. Hostess asked me if I wanted to look at the buffet to see if I wanted to eat there which automatically told me that what was on the buffet was it for the night. 30 minutes before they closed they were already breaking down the buffet which made me uncomfortable. I got the feeling that they just wanted everyone out of there at that point. If your business is doing that poorly and your staff is in that much of a rush to get out as soon as possible before the business is even closed, it speaks for itself. I don't like buffets but my friend does so I tagged along. He was so excited to come here. It's located in a large shopping center so there is plenty of free parking. The inside is very spacious and clean. They have a water fountain with fish...it was pretty cool. Staff aren't that friendly but it didn't bother me. Lunch prices are very affordable and there are a ton of options! A salad bar, dessert, rice, noodles, sushi and soooo much more. We got there when it opened so our food was fresh. I didn't enjoy much of my food because it was bland. I am not sure if I would return but if you like buffets this is the spot for you. read more

Two days ago, I had a disappointing experience at this restaurant, which I would like to share. While I usually avoid writing negative reviews, this instance calls for one. The food was not served at the necessary temperature of 140 degrees or above. I became quite ill just a few hours after my meal. The fish was only lukewarm, and the other dishes were clearly cold and not fresh either. I can't understand how this restaurant stays in operation. Judging by their reviews, I'm not the only one who has felt unwell after dining here. Pros: My favorite Chinese buffet in the area. Excellent variety, much better than others, and most everything is good, especially chicken dishes and fried items, with tasty crab Rangoons and chicken on a stick. Cons: Weird, ancient building showing its age, with inconsistent heating/cooling and lots of wear and tear. Open garbage cans of plate scrapings sitting by seating areas (not sure how that gets past the health people). Service is very hit and miss. It's a Chinese buffet, not Ruth's Chris, so some of this won't bother its clientele! I like it for what it is. read more

I came in with my mom and my two siblings that are the ages of 6 and 3 years old. On the monitor above the hostess stand they charge $8.99 for each child. They charged my mother $66.00!!?!. I called to make sure they checked to make sure there is no "cross contamination" with the fried checken and french fries with any "shrimp". ***ABSOLUTELY AWFUL*** Do your research and read the many reviews on Yelp first for an accurate representation of what you're in for if you eat here. First time and last time for my husband at 8:00 on a Friday night, tonight. We were greeted by a hostess who was playing on her phone with another young man that worked there who was also on his phone. These two were busy giggling over something while other patrons' young children were busy spitting into the koi fish pond less than one foot away from the hostess stand. This should have been our first major red flag but you can't control someone else's trifling parenting so we continued on though the host/hostess could have said something to someone to stop it. The place is big but for a Friday night there was hardly anyone in there, just a handful of people which is another red flag. With my drink order I noticed my cup had a chip and a crack in it, why is this cup still in rotation? They don't offer any forks at the buffet tables, just spoons and knives, and you're only handed one wrapped in a napkin so hold on to it. Almost all the hot food was lukewarm despite it sitting under heat lamps in steam tables and by the looks of the "hot food" they have been sitting there awhile. The hot food was tough and chewy but not in a good way, their sauces were very thin and runny especially for the General Tso's chicken. The cold dishes such as the sushi were lukewarm, which means the cold dishes weren't cold at all and in the food temperature danger zone -- this means that consuming it could potentially make you sick. I attempted to grab some seaweed salad but after I did, my husband noticed that one of the "chefs" behind the sushi bar quickly grabbed it and ran to the back, never replacing it back on the bar. We took this to mean that the seaweed salad was too old to consume, so I did not eat it. There are several buffet rules posted all over the walls of the restaurant, which tells us that they have had issues with patrons before, another red flag. One of the women who worked there, I don't know if she was a server, a busser, or what have you just that she was wearing a black baseball cap and a black apron, was sitting off to the side on a bar stool against the wall of the buffet tables taking a personal call -- not a good look and very unprofessional. The decor was straight up bad, wall finishings and lacquer were worn off, scuffed or broken in places. I would have taken pictures but our server watched us like a hawk though she seemed nice but not worth complaining too. I think she understood why we never finished our plates and quickly left. Do yourself a favor and don't come here. The fact that other adult patrons are allowed to kick off their sandals and lounge with their bare feet sticking out of the end of the booth was icing on the cake. Went and they were open running on a generator. Then completely lost power mid eating. All the food was cold everyone had to eat in the dark and it was stuffy since the air went out. Soda machine wasn't working so we were served a bottle soda so no refills. Then charged full price for eating cold food in the dark with no air. I had read the reviews on Yelp and focused more on the positive ones rather than the bad. I went hoping for something in the middle, but sadly my experience leaned heavily towards the negative. The employees were pleasant and first impression of the entry way was positive, however it was all downhill from there. There really wasn't much flavor in most of the food and the preparation and presentation was less than appealing. Additionally, it did not seem very well kept. Yes, plates were cleared and tables wiped down, but it had a general appearance of needing a serious deep cleaning from floor to ceiling. Overall I should have payed more attention to the low scoring reviews. Had I done that I would have saved myself about $25 that would have been better spent at China Buffet on the other side of town where I know what to expect for a much, much better experience in all areas. read more

I came here after discovering it on a visit to Harbor Freights 2 doors down, and we also received a coupon in the mail about its grand opening. With the coupon, we ended up spending $6 per person for lunch buffet on Saturday--this made my wallet super happy for the amount of food we ate. We arrived and were quickly seated--I was impressed by the large variety in types of food, sushi, seafood, Asian food, and American food that each row offered. We started by walking around the large buffet spread to survey the situation. My favorites included: all the different types of sushi including sashimi and a seaweed salad-topped sushi roll, salmon and tuna rolls, and fresh ginger and Japanese mayo on the side. Other dishes I went back to for seconds and thirds (the joys of buffet eating!!): sauteed green beans, crab, oysters, tossed rice noodles and lo mein, baked salmon, cod. My husband loved the BBQ ribs, fried shrimp, and spring rolls. I also tried some crawfish and it was ok---I'm not usually a huge fan of crawfish anyways. They had the usual stir-fried Chinese dishes that most Asian buffets had, and lots of seafood. The crab was good, although a few pieces were a bit dry and I couldn't find a crab-shell-cracking device so I used my water cup to smash my crab shell... There was a whole row dedicated to desserts, which made my husband one happy camper: pound cake, cheesecake, jello (my favorite!), and other pastries, as well as 6 classic types of ice cream (cookies and cream, butter pecan, chocolate, mint chocolate chip, etc) and fudge/sprinkles toppings on the side. We had great service by our waitress and she removed out used plates quickly and refilled our water cups frequently. This is my favorite Chinese buffet in the area by far. Best selection, great Hibachi and I know this sounds weird - pizza that tastes like elementary school pizza (and to me that's a good thing). Food overall is pretty decent and I don't hate myself after eating it. I've been told the sushi is pretty good, however I don't eat sushi and can't back this up. The atmosphere is the one place I'd knock it: Even thought the place is probably 6 years old, it's starting to show it's age and looks a bit run down. It is nestled in a seemingly defunct shopping center, one strip over from the Compare Foods. Stepping in the door, it looked so much like Jade Buffet by Northgate that I did a double-take. Setting: Seemed mostly clean and very bright lights. Played pop/ urban music in the background, which seemed funny for a Chinese restaurant. BIG setting, so easy to get a pretty decent sized groups. Selection: Very large and diverse-- everything from standard Chinese fare to crawfish to eggs. Comparable to Jade and China Buffet. Had hibachi cook-for-you selection very similar to Jades. Even included ice cream tubs like Jade. Quality: Variable. Some dishes were surprisingly good for buffet, like the steak that you can slice from and pre-sliced beef wellington (!). Many dishes were so-so, about what you'd expect from a Chinese buffet. Some were less-good... I thought the sushi tasted a bit off (not bad, but just not as good as often is elsewhere, even in buffets). The hot & sour soup also smelled a bit off. Service: Good. Attentive. Friendly. Refilled drinks and took away dirty plates promptly. Price: With the $3 off dinner coupon (applied for up to 4 people), it was ridiculously cheap per person. Regular price was ~$11, which is typical. Synopsis: A-OK. I personally still prefer China Buffet for quality and for their steamer baskets. We tried this Chinese buffet last time we were in Raleigh and it was not bad at all. We waited 20 minutes for a table, there were tons of cars in the parking lot and big families waiting to be seated. That's a sign it's a good restaurant. As soon as we got a table, our waiter took our order and brought us drinks. They have all kinds of dishes you can think of and they can also cook what you usually have at any other chinese restaurant. Their dessert section was good, even though I'm not a big fan of Chinese desserts, I liked a couple of cakes they had. The sushi I tried wasn't very good but they had a huge variety. Employees are awesome. They were always cleaning tables, picking up unwanted plates, making sure we have what we needed, and refilling our drinks very often. Ok, so my daughter and I decided to stuff ourselves at an all-you-can eat Chinese buffet lunch. At a costs of $7.50, I wanted to ensure a nice variety. I was about to experience one. I had been told about the selection here but I wanted to see/taste for myself. They have at least twelve buffets tables along with a Hibachi station and Sushi station. Hey mix traditional Asian cuisine with American fare such as Mac n cheese, sweet potato casserole and smoked sausages. I began at the sushi bar where I helped myself to a various assortment of delicacies. I graded them satisfactory and the options available as above average. I enjoyed the seaweed immensely. After having my fill, I slid over the the main course. I tasted steamed crawfish, head-on fried shrimp, clams, mussels, and Thai octopus. My absolute favorite was the fried Tilapia. So tasty (bone-in, but worth it. ) In addition to the array of seafood, the restaurant offered over 100 items included an Hibachi station. The hibachi part is good but wish they have a few different sauce selections that do not all taste the same... They even have a dim sum place. It has Asian, American, and Japanese options.
