I think this is the best Chinese restaurant in Durham. Service was fast on a Friday evening. Food came out hot and fresh. Had the shrimp dumplings, sui mai, fried pork dumplings, pork buns, spicy tofu, and sesame seed puff. I have been to Hong Kong and of course had various dim sum in Boston, Chicago, NYC, and the food is comparable to good Chinatown restaurants in big cities. Simple, yet, comfortable space. I'll be back!

This is a wonderful dim sum restaurant, and I can't believe it is the first time I have come here! The sui mai is delicious! The food comes out quickly, and service is friendly. The restaurant ambiance feels like a home.

    Hot n sour soup

Food was very good. Squid was fresh. $3.75 soup was surprisingly small. The issue is had was the lunch plate took 35 minutes to arrive. The owner got salty with me when I mentioned this at check out. Lady, Dragon Inn and Happy China, that have great authentic asian food too, are around the corner so I'll spend my $$ elsewhere next time.

    Been here in person.

With limited choices in North Carolina, this is the one that can be graded very good and the price is acceptable. The parking may be limited when they have full house. We drove 145 miles from Charlotte just to enjoy our Cantonese dim sum. They have almost every varieties on Saturday & Sunday. Their service was good. We had a good time. If someone can show me more places to go, please drop me a note.

Dim Sum in Hong Kong restaurant in Durham

    | Overview + Authentic Chinese dim-sum + Pork Shumai is good + Shrimp tofu is a must-try + Improved ordering checklist is easy - Only 2 small pork buns per order instead of 3 - Chinese broccoli pieces are little - Chili sauce + soy sauce was pre-served instead of letting us make our own - Red tripe? - Ambiance looks old. - Expensive for the amount. - Customer service could be better | Full Review It's been more than 3 years since we'd eaten dim-sum in Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant in Durham, NC, and that's because we've found a better yet farther dim-sum spot in Cary: Shanghai. My girl & I went here for lunch because it was close to an eyeglass shop that we had to visit. This was the first time we went here on a lunch time weekday; the previous ones years ago were always on a weekend, which were usually crowded. This time, there was a good amount of customers but we didn't have to wait to get seat and parking wasn't a problem. We were a bit surprised to see the paper menu with a checklist ordering system similar to Mr. Tokyo in Chapel Hill. There's also a larger, separate full menu, complete with photos of various dim-sum items, so even though there were no dim-sum carts going around, it was easy for us to order. We ordered all dim-sum items: 5x Pork Shumai (4 pieces each) 1x Shrimp Noodle Crepe (3 pieces), 1x Shrimp Tofu (3 pieces each), 1x Chinese Broccoli, 1x order of Pork Bun (2 pieces), tripe & 2 small cups of white rice. Total came up to be around $64 - About the same price we pay for 2 people in Shanghai. We had to wait for about 18 min. for all the items to arrive - Not as fast as we'd like but still faster than other dimsum places we've been to. They were all served hot. My girl had to ask for chili & soy sauce for our Pork Shumai; the lady-manager who served us gave us a tiny saucer that already have the chili & soy sauce sauce mixed instead of letting us do it our own like how other dim-sum spots do. $5 for 4 pieces of Pork Shumai is about the average price now; it's $1 cheaper here than Shanghai albeit smaller (less pork filling). Nonetheless, the Shumais here tasted as authentic as the other dim-sum items, but skin of the Shumais were a bit overcooked. The shrimp tofu was well-cooked though, and the sweet sauce with chives that came with it was enjoyable. The shrimp rice noodle crepe was good with the soy sauce; and 3 pieces per order was fine for the price, but the 2-piece small pork bun was disappointing; Shanghai & other dim-sum spots usually have 3 pieces. The small cups of white rice were enough for us; the amount of Chinese broccoli with the oyster sauce was fine but the pieces were quite small. The most surprising part of our dim-sum lunch was the tripe, which we expected to be white instead of red. This was our first time having this kind of tripe and we weren't sure at first if it would be as good as the typical white tripe. This tasted a bit spicier, more tomato-like, not too bad, but we prefer the white tripe we're used to. Hong Kong's ambiance was the same old building we remember visiting years ago; seating here can be limited during weekend lunch hours, and often times before, we had to wait to be seated. Parking was also an issue back then but there were many vacant spaces in our latest visit. There were no major issues with customer service here but our experience could have be better. We just didn't get the sense that the lady cared about our dim-sum needs such as the chili/soy sauce issue I mentioned. It's quite rare to find a decent dim-sum place in Triangle NC; while Hong Kong is far from the ideal spot to eat authentic Chinese dim-sum, it's still authentic, and if you're craving for good dim-sum but are not willing to drive farther, this is still an acceptable spot. Just don't expect food to be cheap here (like most dim-sums). For us, this might be our last visit in Hong Kong; this review felt like a bittersweet farewell to what my parents, brothers, and I used to go to for lunch after church years ago. My girl & I just won't settle for less when it comes to dim-sum, especially if we're paying more than $60 for 2. | Overall Score: 3.4/5

I have to say, this is the best Dim Sum in the Triangle. This hole in the wall of a Chinese restaurant services the most authentic Chinese, old school dim sum. They have tripe and chicken feet. Both super tender and well made. Now with that said, is it like California (OC, those who knows, know what I am talking about) quality, no it's not. But is it good, yes it's is great. I grew up in CA, so I know great quality Dim Sum. I have tried 3 other places in Cary that left me turn my nose and sad belly. Hong Kong house may have spots on their walls but I can live with that. Dim sum is served all day. On Sundays they open at 1030, not 11 so get there early. Parking is small and they are always busy. Service is not bad. On Sundays, the cart ladies hoover around making sure you get your filled of food. There is a menu, but for Dim sum, u just point and they give it to u. Plates range from 4.99-8.99 but u can ask them for a menu and order the bigger plates. Next time I want to ask them if they have house special lobster ! Can't seem to find any chinese restaurant that makes house special lobster...

Dim sum, my comfort food from my childhood, has always been my number one favorite meal. It's a cuisine I've always been deprived of while living in the South my whole life and only ate with my family in NYC during summer every year. We ate dim sum at least twice a week for 18 years of my life during summer. During the school year, I never had it because it was never found anywhere in the South. The Asian population was never heavy enough to have one, I suppose. Now, I have finally found one! I found a real authentic, push cart, dim sum restaurant located in North Carolina! I couldn't believe my eyes when I walked in the door. I felt overwhelmed with joy, excitement and comfort, even the smells were nostalgic! Finally! For the first time in my whole life, I found a dim sum spot in the Carolinas. As I walked in, I wasn't sure where to go. The staff were everywhere and I didn't see anyone at the cash register podium area. There were many people waiting in the waiting room and everyone was Asian. This made me feel at incredibly excited at the thought of good authentic dim sum and it also felt very comforting. I walked back over to the right to the podium cash register area when I saw a lady come back to her post. She asked how many? I told her "one," and she sat me immediately. As soon as I was sat, I ordered my green tea and water. Minutes later, two ladies with push carts filled with delicious dim sum came by. They were very nice and very helpful. I ended up getting Siu Mai, chinese broccoli, har gow, lo mai gai and cheung fun. The Cheung Fun was disappointing in the flavor department. I couldn't taste the shrimp at all. The Siu Mai tasted very good, but the texture of the dumpling wrapper wasn't good. It tasted overcooked with the crispy edges of the dumpling wrapper. The Har Gow was perfect! The lo mai gai was very good and the Chinese broccoli was cooked to perfection as well. All in all, I was pleased, but wished I could've had the chicken feet instead of the Cheung fun. I'm just ecstatic to finally have found a Dim Sum restaurant in the Carolinas. If I'm ever in town here again, I will definitely be coming back!

Small place very cozy. They have Dim Sum menu with tasty choices. Orders meme the pepper flank steak, 10/10, the meat was so tender and flavorful. The fried rice was ok 6/10. The shrimp dumplings very good 9/10. My hubby ordered the Hunan Chicken 9/10 , it wasn't spicy, but it was very good and the veggies so fresh. Service was good 7/10. Definitely a place to visit for some clean and tasty Chinese Food. They offer takeout.

This is one of the best dimsum place in the area. When I'm craving dimsum this is where I go! If you want to get a table at lunch on a Sunday, get there right when they open!! Or you'll have to wait for a table because it fills up fast! The servers walk around and pushing carts of various dishes to your table and ask if you want it. You can ask for a menu if you want other items like fried rice , etc. Very chilled and laid back!

Line formed outside the door about 20 mins before their opening time on a Sunday. Plenty of parking. Staff are friendly and they speak English, Mandarin and Cantonese. After Covid, most dim sum places do not have push carts anymore. Very happy to see the dim sum on carts. Limited options as mostly fried items. Asked for some items like fake shark fin (Yu chee gau) dumpling, steam chives dumplings (gaw Choi gau) fried chives dumpling (gaw Choi gok) and other basic dim sum entrees but they don't offer them. Surprised to see big city prices. The har gow's skin (shrimp dumpling) was not chewy at all. Too much flour. Also cold so probably got the bad batch. Highly recommend the crab claw. Back home, you get one crab. Here you get two of them so affordable. Lightly batter and perfect seasoning. Love how spicy sauce is available on the table. I ordered the beef congee but received the pork and century egg instead. It was smooth and good though. The host was nice and asked numerous times what I would like to eat after knowing I was visiting. The seating booths give a HK vibe. One would believe that you're in HK! Hoping to see more bao options. Good to know NC has a decent dim sum joint

The staff are incredibly friendly and hardworking, and the atmosphere feels both welcoming and authentic. All items are affordable and with reasonable prices! It's the only legit dim sum place near Chapel Hill/Carrboro, about a 25-minute drive for us--and we gladly make the trip almost every week. We simply can't get enough of their food! Warning: Everything on their menu is dangerously addictive. You've been warned! Our Favorites 2. Pork Dumpling (Siu Mai / Siomai) -- Steamed pork in a wonton wrapper, perfectly juicy with just the right balance of pork and vegetables in every bite. A delicious classic done right. 6. Beef Onion Dumpling in Chili Sauce -- One of the best dumplings we've had--and we've been to dim sum spots all over the world! The beef is flavorful and juicy, wrapped in a thin, perfectly chewy skin. The chili sauce complements the filling beautifully without overpowering it. Generous portion, amazing value, flawless execution. 9. Steamed BBQ Pork Bun -- Soft, fluffy buns filled with mildly sweet BBQ pork. Comforting, classic, and delicious every time. 11. Egg Yolk Bun -- Lightly sweet custard filling inside soft steamed buns. The perfect bite of dessert to end your dim sum feast. 16. Bean Skin Stuffed with Pork -- Juicy, lightly seasoned pork wrapped in delicate bean skin. Flavorful but not overpowering--simple and satisfying. 27. Crispy Shrimp Ball -- Juicy and lightly seasoned shrimp goodness inside a crispy ball. They disappeared into the void of my stomach as soon as they touched our table. 28. Crispy Taro Puff with Chicken -- Think of these as bite-sized empanadas with savory, well-seasoned chicken inside--like the best mini chicken pot pies! Crispy, flavorful, and completely addictive. I could easily eat 30 of these! 41. Crispy Beef Onion Pot Sticker -- Pan-fried to golden perfection for that satisfying crunch. The beef and chives inside are juicy and flavorful, and the portions are generous. I dream about these dumplings when I'm asleep. Absolute perfection. Take all my money! The Finishing Touch Dim sum is meant to be enjoyed with tea, and they offer a simple traditional brew that pairs beautifully with every dish. If there's one downside--it's that they're only open Friday through Sunday. We wish they were open all week! Everything on their menu is so good! Best Dimsum and service in Durham!

I've had the pleasure of eating some really good dim sum, and while I can admit that the dim sum here will never be as good as places in New York, I can say that they do a decent job and that the experience will be enjoyable for any eater. Rather than delivering dishes on the traditional cart, Dim Sum Asian Bistro uses a menu where you can mark off the dishes that you want. There are a lot of different steamed, fried, and a la carte options that you can choose from. A lot of the basics are done pretty well. They have good pan fried dumplings, shrimp dumplings, shao mai, and coconut pudding. They also have some other, complex dishes that we really enjoy. Their curry powder turnip cake is some of the best out there. The curry flavor pops and the fry is absolutely perfect. Crispy on the outside, but warm and soft on the inside. They also make their chicken feet really well, which is a tough one to do sometimes. I know that there will be some good options. Although Dim Sum Asian Bistro has some good things, they also serve some things that you would just be better off not ordering. They have three different types of rice crepe dishes with meat. Their best is easily the shrimp, and you should stick to that. In fact, I would avoid the beef version at all costs, it is made with a beef paste and the texture was so strange, it was kind of unappetizing! I also think their fried rice could use some work, and I think some items, like their custard buns, could have come from the frozen section. I think my family can be pretty critical about dim sum since it has been a big part of our personal culture. However, sometimes I feel I need to take a step back and look at it broadly. I've come here with some of my friends who don't eat dim sum consistently and they are always wowed by the experience. From that perspective, I can see how this place hits the mark. They serve pretty authentic food and make it taste good. There is always a buzz about the restaurant and people come and go over the weekend. It's no wonder you might have to wait to get a table, Dim Sum Asian Bistro is definitely doing something right!

I'd recommend parking a few blocks away and walking if you are unable to find parking nearby. Walking into the restaurant you'll be transported to a modern brewery, bookstore, and flower shop. I then switched to cocktails and ordered the Black Sesame Old Fashioned (bourbon, black sesame, black walnut bitters), the Dionysus (pinot noir, raspberry lemon shrub, chambord, amaretto, lemon, rhubarb bitters), and an aviation (hendricks, luxardo, creme de violette, lemon). By far the Black Sesame Old Fashioned was my favorite and what a nice touch with cracker on top of the dish. For food we ordered the Gai Lan (Stir-fried Chinese broccoli with garlic and oyster sauce), the Peking Duck (Whole, barbecued, free-range duck served with steamed bao buns, cucumber, scallions, and hoisin-honey sauce), Sweet Soy Chicken (Scallions, bell peppers, and caramelized in our ginger soy sauce. Served with jasmine rice), the Xiao Long Bao (Steamed crab and ground pork soup dumplings), Nasi Goreng Crab Fried Rice (Traditional Indonesian Chinese fried rice with blue crab meat, Nam Pla fish sauce, house made Nasi Goreng sauce, served in an egg crêpe), and the General Tso's Chicken (Crunchy, sweet, and tangy, Bhavana's General Tso comes with your choice of chicken or tofu tossed in our house-made General sauce and topped with sesame seeds. Served with jasmine rice). By far our favorite food items were the seafood dumplings (excellent flavor, Chinese donuts were so good, along with the flavor from the broth), and the shrimp lo mein noodles (cooked perfectly and the sauce was perfectly distributed). Thankfully our servers provided some excellent recommendations. The Pork Bao was probably my favorite bite of the night, and may very well have been the best Bao I've ever had. The Lap Cheung Fried Rice was also delicious, and I'm usually not a fried rice person! Also worth mentioning is the Lo Mein, which we ordered with chicken. We didn't stay for dessert, but all of their sweet offerings sounded incredible as well. I did try one of the beers they brew on-site, the Sow. Decided to come here for a weekday dinner on a whim & so glad that we did! This was also my first…read moreforay into Downtown Cary, which is super cute. We got the: - Scallion Roasted Beef Pancake Roll: Definitely recommend getting this as an appetizer! The scallion pancake is super crispy with unbelievably tender beef inside & perfect amount of sweetness from the hoisin sauce. - Griddle Chicken with Mixed Vegetables: I've never eaten anything like this before, and absolutely loved it. Loved all the spices- cumin, fennel, doubanjiang- & the mala essence; the crispy, tender chicken; and the variety of vegetables, especially the lotus root. - Shrimp Ho-Fun: The shrimp were tender & the wide rice noodles have such a fun, bouncy texture; a flavorful dish. - Spicy Boiled Fish: The fish was super flaky; Taipei 101's version of this has a bit less mala flavor than I like, but this was still tasty. - Chinese Braised Pork: The pork was tender with a good amount of fat and I appreciated the bok choy, but it was a bit too sweet for me. Ambiance is nice, lots of tables. Service was fast. There are parking spots in front of the restaurant, but a little limited in number. 10/10 would recommend!

I like how people talk about decent Chinese food like they talk about bees -- "where did they all…read morego?" If I am anywhere near Cary I will go to this place for the Sichuan dishes. Often times I find that the little red pepper on many Chinese menus mean nothing. Here, they mean "this is going to be really spicy!" I have been told that you ask for something that isn't on the menu, they can often gladly make it for you. So... yeah. TBH -- the more American-Chinese dishes aren't anything special. I had someone's General Tsao and it was way spicier than most (which was great) but really, really, goopy and sugary (which wasn't.) All in all, if you're adventurous, and you're tired of the same old American-Chinese I would give this place a run and I would actually avoid those items on the menu should you dine here.

Chicken Mongolian. We didn't order this. It was brought to us by accident, but the few bites we had were very, very good.

The reason I gave it 4 stars was because the dumplings were disappointing. They were not warm and the dumpling dough was thick. We got the David's dumplings and the crispy spicy wontons. The wontons were better. I liked the crispy dough but they weren't spicy at all. The entree meals were better. I had the Malaysian curry soup which had a nice kick and was steaming hot. It had lots of different toppings in it which was nice. My husband got the fried rice. It was also really good. The Chinese sausage complimented the rice well and there were plenty shrimp in it too. If I went back I would forgo the dumplings and just go straight to having the entree.

It's spicy but a little sweet. We were both fans. My friend even asked if they sell it
