We've been making our way around the sushi places in town and decided to try this tonight. We both ordered the wonton soup, a plate of pan fried dumplings and then had the Tampa and Salmon Skin Rolls. The soup is delicious. It's a bit on the salty side but there is a lot of flavor in the broth. It's a small serving, one wonton per cup of soup. I thought the dumplings were good but my husband wasn't impressed. We may try them steamed next time. The sushi was fresh and tasty. I was particularly pleased with the salmon skin roll but we cleaned the plate and we usually can't finish everything. Very inexpensive and the service was great. It will definitely be in our rotation again. read more

The sushi here is simply "ok". It took a while to receive our food, and once we received our app, I was extremely disappointed once I found a piece of hair fried into my shrimp. We waited about 5-10 minutes for our waiter to come back around before I could give him my plate, then another 10 more minutes to even receive our sushi. The waiting game was lengthy, and the sushi was simply mediocre at best. A lot of waiting to be rewarded with sushi that truly felt not worth waiting for. Some of the worst sushi I've ever had. Truly. I think I would take Publix/grocery store sushi over this. The crab salad (or spicy crab salad) was simply inedible. EVERYTHING was fishy which was a huge red flag. I ended up removing the crab salad and just eating the cucumber roll underneath and ridding of the rest. We also got crab rangoon and veggie tempura. Those were just OK, disappointed in the amount of mushrooms we received (yuck). Overall, just an unpleasant take out experience. read more

My husband and I came about 30 minutes before closing for some quick sushi. They were very accommodating and took our orders even after the restaurant closed. Very clean and neat place. They have two aquariums that steal your attention with the beautiful coral reefs and fish! The design is very modern. Onto the sushi- definitely very tasty! We had the Alaskan roll, spicy salmon roll and Nathan's roll. The first two are raw and Nathan's is tempura. They have all-you-can-eat sushi and cooked food for around $23 a person, however if you leave sushi or rice on your plate you will be charged for it per piece. No sharing is allowed with the all-you-can-eat. They serve beer, wine and sake. Service was good, chefs and servers very polite. Awesome place and great deal! read more

I had second thoughts from the outside but inside it's big a very nice! The god was very tasty, the only think is that a lot of the cooked rolls have breaded fish which I found weird, but still very tasty! I highly recommend the all you can eat, is worth it. read more

Chicken teriyaki is great, apps are great, sushi is BAD. If you like Publix sushi, you will like Ichiban. Unfortunately, it did not cut it for us. The fish was chewy and very "fishy". I do not think their skills are to blame, I think the fish is just not fresh. On the other hand, I absolutely love their chicken teriyaki - it is not traditional. It is flash fried, floured chicken pieces served over sushi rice. Their sauce is a little bit lighter and a little bit looser than traditional teriyaki and I think it has a nice ginger flavor. We've wanted to checkout this AYCE Sushi Bar for sometime and we were really quite pleased. It doesn't have the appearance of the typical Sushi bar but more of the décor of what other restaurant / bar had been there previously; no Japanese music lilting in the background, Kimono attired waitresses or Sushi chefs with years of experience (they're all 20 something's) and long apprenticeships under their belts. Not necessarily a bad thing just an observation. Ordering your choice of Sushi uses a system like Dim Sum restaurants with a paper check listing the items and just add the quantity desired. You do need to refer to the main menu for descriptions of some of the custom named items; Sarasota roll? Nathan's roll? Tampa roll? The menu does do a good job of describing items but they do not have pictures at the table or on display making selections easier. The AYCE includes a typical Ginger dressing salad and a bowl of Miso soup. The soup was not the usual light clear kind; refreshing but almost tasteless served in many Japanese restaurants. Instead this soup had some color and body along with pieces of floating tofu. It may not be typical but it was good and satisfying. There is a broad choice of both Sushi and Sashimi. For two of us we started with two types of rolls (each about 8 pieces) and two each of 4 or 6 types of Sushi. The food was prepared quickly and served on a common plate along with nice portions of pickled ginger and Wasabi. Everything was attractively presented, fresh tasting and delicious. We soon duplicated the above quantities selecting some different items. They really offer a huge cross section of items; no skimping on choices. We did ask for Salmon roe and the server advised they didn't have it (although lots of smoked and regular Salmon items listed) but suggested two similar items and they were excellent. To their credit the Sushi is prepared with just a small amount of rice in each piece and very ample portions of fish. No effort to fill you up on the far cheaper rice. Your Sushi gorge-fest is just $19.95 (cash) or $22.95 with a credit card. They have a full bar and take-out service and are closed mid-day between lunch and dinner, check their web site for hours. With the good food, reasonable pricing and excellent service who needs Kimonos and Japanese folk music? We had a great time and will definitely be back. read more

As a sushi junkie this place made me come back again and again for the chill setting and bomb sushi. This place got me trying everything on the menu. If you are looking for an easy stop for fresh sushi and a relaxed atmosphere that isnt too over the top. This is your place. I'm sorry to say, I didn't have the best dining experience at this place. I had a craving for udon soup, so I was thrilled when I found it on the menu. When it arrived a little while later, I was not as thrilled anymore. It had Wonton soup broth, soggy noodles, and hardly any vegetables in it (just a few bits of baby corn, snow peas, and water chestnuts). It was basically Chinese soup with Japanese noodles. As a Japanese cuisine enthusiast from California, I was completely disappointed. As for the sushi, I didn't try much apart from the spicy tuna roll that my boyfriend sneaked me (they don't allow sharing on their $20 All-You-Can-Eat deal), however it seemed tolerable. The service was also not up to standard, in my opinion. All of the employees are quite young... And when I say that, I mean that pretty much all of them are unkept 20-something's with plugs in their ears and no experience. It honestly seemed like all of them were there just because they needed a summer job. Our waitress was a little slow and slightly forgetful, and it was not due to the fact that it was a Friday night. As the night went on and more people left, she got slower and slower. We were some of the last people in there and it took forever to get our checks + pay. But the beauty with sushi buffets like this...it's not just a major eye feast with long sushi display tables. You order directly off the menu and get what you want. Just be careful not to order more than you can handle! (An unpleasant and embarrassing position to be in- I would know) After coming here a couple times, I've become somewhat bored with the rolls available. They are bulky, very ricey, and overwhelming. But I can never be tired of the sashimi, which is always freshly served with minimal rice. And while the setting is oddly, unromantically dim, with random asian decorations...I really enjoy the mini aquarium filled with the fish they actually serve. Just don't go. I went about 2 1/2 years ago and I remember it being better. Not great then, but good enough. This was downright disgusting. The tuna sashimi tasted like it was frozen. Even the cooked tempura was so gross- stringy pieces of chicken. I had to spit out one of my entire rolls among 3 napkins so I wouldn't be charged for not eating it. I've had some questionable sushi in my life, but this is by far the absolute worst. For $23.50, you can have top quality fish elsewhere- not this garbage. I fell in love with this place about 8 years ago when it was a small hole in the wall. Tony, the owner, is a genuinely hard working devoted man. He has made sure that his restaurant always is up to par. Great sushi, and huge quantities! All you can eat for 23$! It's a great bang for your buck type of place. Okay, the sushi that I'm used to is in NYC and Fairfield county in Connecticut, so maybe I'm a sushi snob, but this place scares me. Whenever I go to Ichiban, I do the $20 all you can eat sushi deal. However, if you're paying by card and not by cash, your total will be a few dollars more. More often than not, the food is amazing. I have had a couple of instances during which some of the fish was fatty, but that's to be somewhat expected at a restaurant that features an all-you-can-eat portion of the menu. Went the other night with my friend after a beach trip, our server who's name I will not mention was not very attentive- and seemed to be bothered that we weren't spending very much on food (I wasn't terribly hungry just wanted a snack and I had remembered coming there before) I ordered a salad along with some sushi and a woman dropped off the sushi so I asked her if he could have forgotten about my salad. A few minutes later the same woman brought two salads- one for each of us & my friend didn't get charged for hers because our server was not paying attention & had barely checked up on our table- but I still got charged for mine even though he wasn't the one to deliver it and he very well probably would have forgotten it and charged me anyways About the food- the sushi isn't all that great there are better places around town I'd rather go to read more

We love it here! It's the only dinner place we go to when we get a babysitter. We're able to get prepared by not eating hours before an order a ton of sushi, tempura, and salad. Some friends and I used to go here pretty regularly, if only because it's an all-you-can-eat place. That said, you're getting what you pay for; you can't exactly walk into a place like this expecting phenomenal sushi. "Well, that's alright," you may be thinking to yourself. "I don't like sushi anyway." If that's the case, my friend, you are out of luck. The non-raw sushi selection is about on-par with other places, but executed very poorly. Even in the cases of teriyaki and tempura, the food is overcooked, chewy, and generally unappetizing. Despite this, the place is almost always crowded and noisy. Service is generally very slow, and they're often "out" of certain dishes. This may be a nitpick, as I have a very strong sense of smell, but there's a very strange odor about the place as well. It smells unclean in the main restaurant, and areas around the restrooms and outside the kitchen stink to high heaven. If you're looking for cheap sushi in mass quantities, this is a decent place to go. But don't expect quality or fast service. read more
