I can't believe that I had not heard about this place until today! I was extremely impressed with the sushi that I ordered - everything was fresh and flavorful and I liked that the rice to fish ratio was spot on. The one thing I will say watch out for is the long waiting times to have the food prepared (they are usually quite busy). The menu has a wide selection of sushi roll, sushi burrito fusion, bowls, and ramen. I would love to have seen a little more selection on the range of fish and sashimi but you can't get everything in life. Most people take out from here as the restaurant itself is tiny and cannot seat many customers, but actually really remind me of a lot of the small sushi and ramen places that I ate at in Japan. Great little small Ramen shop. We actually ate inside - there are about 6 seats and the server was awesome. There are so many choices for the ramen broth and it was perfectly spiced. Our family visited Sarasota from Atlanta and this place was close to our hotel. This has to be the smallest Japanese restaurant we've ever seen. It can only serve 6 people comfortably. So, it's primarily a take-out restaurant. We arrived on a Friday night at 7:30 and it would take 45 minutes for our order to be ready. After placing our order, we went to the Urfer family park which is a short drive down the street to wait for our food. We ordered the Spicy tuna poke bowl, Shio shrimp ramen cup, Shio chicken ramen cup, Miso ramen cup, and 3 roll combo (Hawaiian, Salmon skin, and Clearwater). All of this for only $54! We brought it back to our hotel to eat. Everything was also included - utensils, napkins. The food was pretty good and the portions were quite large. Overall, a fantastic deal and it all tasted pretty authentic to us. Highly recommend this spot. read more

Their Soy sauce is very weak, however. Not sure why it is so watered down. I have only had food here from UberEats. I have never been to the joint, so I can't remark about it. I've been buying sushi here for 5 years. It's right down the street from my work and Goichi is just a solid, consistent restaurant. My family always gets the Cash & Carry Out $10 boxes or the Dekamaki roll. For the cash & carry out, I would definitely recommend a box of Gen (pumpkin), Shrimp Lagoon (tempura shrimp), and the GQ (salmon). The Dekamaki with soft-shell crab is also amazing. It was easy and delicious. Easy once we worked our way through their extensive menu to decide what to order, and their cash & carry menu is smaller than their regular menu. After finally deciding we gave them a call, placed our order, and picked it up in 30 minutes. It was quite inexpensive for as much food as we received. Goichi's is a small place with very limited seating. The food is prepared in the back, just in case you are looking for more of a show. My part of our order was a Chilean and a Sunflower, a tempura shrimp and cucumber and a spicy salmon with cucumber and cream cheese. I asked for a recommendation for a third roll, which ended up being tuna but I missed the name. All were excellent. With the rolls laid out in a Styrofoam container, presentation was not fancy, but we both said wow when I popped it open and saw all those pieces. Novice sushi consumers. read more

Wow! some how I just discovered this place for Ramen. They make their own noodles!! So delicious and so many choices. I love that they bring the food out to my car too. So far my family and I have tried the Beef Ramen with soy & beef broth, Pork Ramen with chicken and pork broth and the veggie ramen with the park and chicken broth. All Excellent. This place may be tiny, but the food is incredible. I just ordered carry out, but they had so many ramen options I couldn't decide. We have no good ramen places where I live so I was in heaven!! I got the the spicy ginza, it's the shoyu broth with spicy chili oil and fried chicken. I added an egg because that's my favorite part, but the taste was incredible and the spice was just right. It looks a lil bit like a authentic sushi/ramen bar and with that is particularly small and wouldn't allow for more than two people given social distancing- HOWEVER- the sushi is to DIE FOR. I thought they were being pretentious by calling themselves a hidden gem on their website, but nope. Honestly calling them a hidden gem is a HUMBLE way to put it. I tried a couple of their samplers on Wednesday for just like 25 dollars and the sushi held me off from that night for dinner, next day lunch and next day dinner. This place is really small inside, since there are three small tables, and five bar stools. The main reason why I wanted to try Goichi's is from the photo on their website and the prices on the online menu (prices were not actually those listed), showing the front of the restaurant with all of the lanterns. It looked exactly like that, just like a ramen or sushi stall that you would see in Japan, we authentic looking. We were there on Saturday night around 6:30 PM and we sat at the bar, there were two other tables of people and everyone seemed to be comfortable with the seating situation. Japanese rock music plays at a really low volume while you enjoy the dimly lit atmosphere and the many wall decorations. Their Oni logo was really impressive, which was located on their front door and other random places within the café. Since we were sitting at the bar, the service was excellent, since we were talking to the waitress the whole time and were right there with her. The tables seemed to be getting pretty good service as well, but if you want the full experience, I recommend sitting at the bar. There are also two tables for outdoor seating, if the weather permits, it would be nice. The sushi is not prepared in front of you at the bar, but hidden in the back. I saw only one chef back there making everything, but that did not keep the food from coming out quickly. One would think that they do not make much money with so few seats. However, more than half of their customers are getting take-out orders or delivery. Take note: The prices on their website are not accurate and some items were about a dollar more than listed. For appetizers, we ordered the Pork Gyoza ($3.95), which was the standard frozen variety purchased in a large bag from a grocer. The Ginger Salad ($2.50) was small and the dressing was very sweet on mixed greens. The Beef Soba ($5.95) was very sweet, but the beef was tender and the noodles were cooked just right. I am used to eating soba in dashi broth, which is not as sweet. The sushi is what I would refer to as "wet sushi," where the rice was very moist and since everything was doused in eel sauce, it was falling apart. The Salmon with Cucumber Roll ($4.50) and the Italian Roll ($5.50) were fresh, but loosely wrapped. The Italian Roll noted that it was fried calamari with cucumber, garlic, and olive oil, which was really fried octopus with cucumber then covered in eel sauce. I ordered one of the "Crunchy Rolls," called the Cuban ($6.75), which was cucumber and eel wrapped loosely and dripped into tempura batter and deep fried. I think that the heat was too low on the oil, because the oil soaked completely through the roll and the batter was not crispy at all, and was a pale color. I was having trouble stomaching it, and ended up leaving it on the plate, so I really do not recommend their crunch rolls or any deep fried roll in the future at any establishment. It is really difficult to get it right, kind of like fried ice cream. My favorite roll was the Ocean Roll ($9.95), which I highly recommend if you are into the saucy cooked rolls. It was a fried shrimp roll covered in scallops, spicy tuna, and eel, then slathered in all sauces available. The shrimp was cooked to perfection, very tender and all of the sauces blended well together into a sweet and spicy concoction. They also have the large bottles of Nigori (milk sake), but we stuck with the smaller bottle for $10.00, enough for two to party. After eating here, we went to Kroaky's for some karaoke fun and had a blast as always. If you are in the area, I recommend giving this place a try and drawing your own conclusions. So there are many sushi places to choose from in Sarasota but my husband and I decided to come here after reading several reviews. The restaurant is located in a shopping plaza that maybe a little sketchy but we entered anyway. Not knowing what to expect, we were greeted by a friendly server named Summer. Let me start off by saying Summer has to be one of the most knowledgeable and sweetest servers we have ever come in contact with. The menu is overwhelming to say the least but it is broken into different types of seafood which makes it easier to read and subsequently choose from. I honestly can't even tell you what we got. They all are pretty similar but the Hawaiian was my favorite by far. Overall, the pick three combo meals for $10 is a steal. Their pricing is fair and their food does it's justice for filling up a hungry belly. Just a note, it is takeout and cash only to get the deals. If you're ever in the area, and don't want to deal with the fancy smansy overpriced sushi restaurants in the area this is the place to go. read more

4 stars for the quality- This little sushi restaurant is in a strip mall and is very popular. Unfortunately it's incredibly small - seats about 15 people total. They do offer a huge selection of rolls and the three that I selected were very tasty. I had the Miami, Leaf, and the Shinjuku. The Shinjuku roll was unique because it was tuna, salmon, and avocado wrapped in super thin cucumber! Also the Shinjuku doesn't have rice so I could really taste the flavors of the cucumber and fresh fish. The restaurant does offer a lot of teas and other dishes which I would like to try next time.
