On our way home for Thanksgiving we stopped here and had experienced very fun unique style rolls that tasted amazing (especially from an inland location). Volcano Roll and Valley Roll were my favorites. I've seen others complain about the service but we were accommodated just fine, even though we were on the road we were patient to be seated since they were busy. They weren't insanely on top of refilling your drinks/bussing but if you asked for something they had no problem assisting you. I'll be back through here again someday and will be glad to stop in again but as for now i'd say if your reading this...go get yourself some tasty sushi! read more

Worst service ever came to have lunch with the kids, as soon as we arrived they tell us to sit where ever we want, so we grab a spot and wait couple minutes for the waiter to bring over menus no hello or nothing she leaves the menus on the table and walks away, waited another couple minutes and she walks up to us and asked if we already knew what we wanted to drink, being here for the second time we already knew what we wanted to eat so I told her we are also ready to order our food and she says no u have to wait for the other people to order first as they came in first, so I asked her, so you telling me if they want to take time to look at the menu and maybe have no idea what they want and still need more time I have to wait and she reply's with a yes, as this is going on another group of people walked in and since they had a different waiter they got to place the order before me and the other couple. Got my kids and walked out. They can't even manage the 8 tables they have.. read more

We found this restaurant driving from San Francisco to San Luis Obispo. The lunch special was great and so reasonable. The second time we went for dinner and sat at sushi bar. The chef prepared all our rolls, and they have so many options I wanted to order more. I really like the spicy options in the rolls. Of note, the music played was only Taylor swift. So if I had to give a negative it would be having catchy pop tunes in my head the rest of the day. We will make this restaurant a frequent stop. read more

Love this place. Amazing sushi though admit my favorite roll is the Crazy Horse. I stop in about 1 x week and try other rolls as well. Sometimes you do wait a bit but the sushi is worth it and the staff are excellent -- very attentive and friendly. I loved there sushi. I got the hangover and my wife got the rainbow roll. Both were great. The hangover explodes with flavor the rainbow is a good rendition of a sushi classic. IF you want to call in an order, forget it! They rarely answer the phone and the restaurant is small! We use to eat there all the time but its too crowded. So we like to bring it home. For the last 2 weeks we have wanted take out but nobody answers the phone. Finally the husband drove there to bring home. He waited 45 minutes to get the food. Who wants to wait that long just to take home??? While we like the food, it would appear they dont need our business and we will be visiting waaaay less. I've eaten here a few times, and this was my best experience so far. The service was prompt despite them being very busy, and the staff was very friendly and competent. We ordered the poke bowl with sauces on the side, and one of us had salad instead of rice (which was offered by the waitperson when we asked them to omit the rice--very nice). It was really tasty and beautifully presented with a nice selection of fruits and vegetables. I have not tried the poke pre-mixed with sauce, will try that next time. I see that there have been some reviews about bad service in the last couple of years (and I have experienced that too), but given the pandemic I have had a lot of empathy for anyone trying to run a business during this time, especially a restaurant. Restaurant service requires a very special set of skills, and it has been hard for restaurants to find qualified help. From our experienece, it appears that Ichiban has found some good team members. Was pleasantly surprised to find a Japanese restaurant in Prunedale! This location has had many different food businesses in it, hopefully this one is here to stay. It is quite small, but I think adequate. The decor isn't much, but I'm really just looking for good Japanese food. I stopped here with a friend for lunch as last minute decision as we were driving by and I vaguely remembered someone telling me a new restaurant had opened here. I got excited over the menu and over ordered, but somehow managed to eat it all! I had the 9 piece (large) nigiri sushi and the vegetable tempura appetizer. The nigiri sushi was good, fresh and decent size pieces. The only thing I don't understand is why they don't put wasbi between the nigiri and the rice. This is the proper Japanese way. My meal also came with either soup or salad. I chose salad which had a miso dressing. The salad was a bit over-dressed. My friend ordered a bento box with chicken teriyaki and a couple of different rolls. Her meal also came with vegetable tempura, steamed rice and either miso soup or salad. She said it was quite good. All in all, a pleasant experience and a very good lunch. I think this will make a good place to pick up a to go order on the way home from Monterey. read more

I'm am surprised to see so many positive reviews. I have been eating a sushi restaurants for over 30 years. The flavor of this sushi is not fresh. I ate it any way due to hunger and time factor. Horrible horrible service, wait times are ridiculous, rude waiters, and food is only so-so. We where a large party and told the staff twice we could split up, they allowed 3 other parties to sit before us taking up the tables when we asked about it they shrugged it off and told us a table would be ready soon. We again told them we would be fine at 2 different tables, they just continued on and didn't seat us. Shame we specifically went here to celebrate our daughters birthday, she had her heart set on sushi. Found a place in Salinas, although it's a few more miles up the road well worth continuing your drive for better service And much better food. Shame this place is so close, but I will pay higher prices and drive further to have better service and food. read more

Update 6/19/18... we came back to this restaurant a couple of nights ago and their service was way improved!! Apparently they hired new servers!! So with the awesome food and great service, it deserves 5 stars!!! We live locally and love sushi so we got so excited when this place opened. We have been there a few times, the food is always great but the service here is so bad. I worked at a Japanese restaurant before so I know how it works, it's not rocket science. One time we ordered meal and edamame, it took them about 30mins to give us a bowl of edamame and I had to asked them twice about it. Another time they forgot to put in one of the orders, so everybody but one got to eat. Tonight we had to wait 20 mins for someone to get our order and then another 30-40 mins to get our food. We would certainly go there more often if they hire more capable workers. So if you don't mind lousy service the sushi, you should definitely go there. I hope the owner reads this and gives the waitress proper training or just hire more experienced ones. read more

AMAZING food, but the service can be iffy. When it's busy customers often stand by the door a lot to wait to be seated. More than once, I've had to. One time I got pissed about it and left with my boyfriend because we had been waiting for about 30min and no one talked to us! Someone who worked there walked in there with their family and were immediately spoken to and were told they would be seated soon. Excuse me!
