    Sashimi Combo
    Devin M.

9/10 Great sushi spot honestly the best sushi I've had in Salinas so far! Starting off with the salad, and it was a pleasant surprise. The portion was generous, the veggies were crisp, and I loved all the little additives that gave each bite a different flavor sometimes tangy, sometimes a little sweet. It made something simple feel refreshing and unique. The sashimi was the real star. Every cut was precise, clean, and incredibly fresh none of that chewy or uneven slicing you sometimes see elsewhere. Every slice had that melt-in-your-mouth quality, and you could tell the fish was handled with care. The Tekka Maki was another favorite. A smaller roll, but perfectly rolled and balanced, fresh from the first bite to the last. Definitely a staple always in my book. Service was another highlight. The servers were quick, efficient, and genuinely kind, making the whole experience smooth and enjoyable. Food came out in a timely manner without feeling rushed. Ambiance-wise, I'll admit it's not the coziest place. It was clean, but the lighting felt a bit off and the seating was arranged in an unusual way. There were also quite a few menus displayed on the walls, which gave it a slightly cluttered vibe. That said, the most important part the food was excellent, so it's easy to look past the small details. If you're looking for fresh, quality sushi in Salinas, this is absolutely the place to go. Fresh fish, precise preparation, and service that makes you feel welcome. I'll definitely be back!

As always service was great and the food was delicious! The feel of the restaurant is old school and refreshing. No frills just super delicious food. My favorite sushi place for sure! The Harley Davidson roll is it. Thank me later!

    911 with "avocado"
    Jul R.

Ordered the 911. It comes with: inside: spicy tuna. Top: salmon, avocado , spicy sauce, habanero fish eggs Requested no "spicy sauce" and was not exactly what was given to us. See picture below for reference. Pointed out to the female server that the roll was lacking avocado. Female waitress said "that is how it comes and" Also, was missing the fish eggs. After requesting, the fish eggs were given on the side. What a huge disappointment!!! It was on 6/13/2025 friday 12pm. I have never had a problem with the food the many times i have eaten here. New staff?? Either way, unsatisfactory. Will stick to coming on the weekends. Seems like the service is better.

I love a combination of great value and great quality. I had two large beers and saki along with spicy hamachi roll and spicy yellowtail roll. Staff was so nice and great. Rolls were amazing and beer was ice cold. Vibe was great and can't wait to go back.

I've been craving samurai's sushi for ever. Their mortal kombat and pink lady rolls are mandatory. Service is great and it's a great location. If u like sushi or if u don't just come try it.

Vege roll was supposed to be 8$

Been wanting to try this place for a while.. finally did and was so disappointed The way the dishes are prepared aren't well thought the agedashi tofu is soaked in sauce couldn't finish it fast enough before it turned into mush, seaweed salad was mostly garnish under to make it look like a lot for the price it is its not worth it and the veg sushi I ordered came with loads of ginger inside of it, I dislike ginger a lot in the menu said nothing about ginger being inside but instead had onions.. unless onion means ginger to them ? It's deseiving .. then at the end I know I ordered the 8$ veggie roll and on the tab it said 12$ I brought up all concerns and they did fix it quickly for sure but with the portion sizes and the price I don't feel it's worth it.. they themselves are great people seems very family like in there but I've tried better at other places unfortunately

Keep this restaurant open forever because it is my favorite of all time. I have spent numerous big moments at this restaurant and keep coming because of how cozy the restaurant is and delicious the food is. 10/10 would recommend always

Is there currently a happy hour menu? If so, what time is happy hour? (I know a lot of restaurants changed their menus and hours during COVID)…

I have never had sushi, but I love Japanese food and some of the sushi rolls on their menu look great, so this may be a stupid question but I truly don't know, is their sushi that has crab and shrimp cooked or raw. Or can I get cooked fish in sushi?

Shrimp & crab are cooked but the crab is imitation crab meat mostly.

The prices were right in line with what you'd expect for a hibachi restaurant, so we felt we got great value for the money. Our hibachi chef was funny, engaging, and did a great job with both the cooking and the entertainment. He made our anniversary dinner even more enjoyable. The only thing that surprised me was how empty the restaurant was. After our experience, I honestly think they deserve more business. Maybe I missed it but I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've seen it. They don't always have it so ask your waitress if they do before ordering. It is such a delicious rich and savory dish. It's filled with eggs, green onions, sometimes bacon, flour, cornstarch, corn, Dashie powder, reconstituted, and cabbage all mixed together into a thick batter that becomes a thick pancake. Browned on both side sides. It's served with two or three different sauces cutie mayonnaise, OKONOMIYAKI sauce, a sweet teriyaki thick sauce and topped with Bonita flakes. One pan cake is enough to serve two or three people as an appetizer. It's a treat. $8 Their Agedashi is excellent! I order this at every Japanese restaurant that I go to that has it on the menu. It is one of my very favorites. Here they have nice bite-size squares of firm tofu dipped in cornstarch and deep fried quickly just enough to make them piping hot and super crispy on the outside then served in a Dashie sauce topped with green onions and Bonita flakes. Because the tofu is so hot the Bonita flakes start to wave around and it's always been fascinating to watch this as we enjoy the dish itself. It's also a good dish to take to go because it's easy to reheat at home. $8.25. The crispy and crunchy combo tempura as an appetizer for $10 is also delicious in its simplicity and perfection. The Avo Mango Roll $ 9.95 has avocado, mango, nuts. It's light fruity and savory at the same time and the nuts are macadamia nuts, which add a really nice crunch to it. They have pages and pages of different sushi, sashimi and rolls. Some are simple some are very complex. It really depends on what your taste and what flavors you're looking for. Everything we've tried on several visits there have been fresh and outstanding. Their bento boxes $17-25 ($10 for kids bento) are huge. With miso soup salad rice your protein of choice ( the Katsu pork is outstanding and really holds up well to reheating at home). You also get tempura and a couple of pieces of roll with your bento box. My favorite however for just how beautiful it looks, and how light and delicious it is, is the Futo Maki $11.25 tamago, avocado, cucumber, gobo, shiitake, kampyo, oshinko. When you look at the role itself, it's beautifully organized inside, very artistically arranged, and appealing to the eye. The first bite into it gives you a little bit of each ingredient and together they make for a very good imaginary trip to Japan. My only complaint about this restaurant is that it is so consistently good whether we eat in or have it delivered by DoorDash that we totally over order and end up with so much food! Lol. We always get a side serving of a large hot saki and a large Sapporo beer to wash it all down with. Add a wakame salad and we are good $5.50. Service is excellent and attentive. The place is very busy, but usually you're able to get a table fairly easily. Our tab is usually about $100 plus tip because we order so much!

The portion sizes are huge, and the value for the price is hard to beat. I lived in Seattle for a large part of my life, where teriyaki is everywhere, and I've spent years trying to find something that comes close. This restaurant is about as close as I've found. The chicken is flavorful, the sauce is just right, and it really satisfies that Seattle-style teriyaki craving. It's also served with miso soup, that I generally don't eat. It's a bit salty for my taste. The restaurant is usually pretty busy, which is always a good sign, but it's also consistently clean and well maintained. The servers are friendly and welcoming every time I've been in. They're not overly attentive, but if you need something, it's easy enough to get their attention and they're happy to help. When I spoke to the person who took my order she was having a hard time hearing me and she said their phone is like that sometimes. I eventually got to a point where she said she could hear me. I ordered Some sunomono with crab and I asked for a "Kokoro Sashimi" with the "Salmon Sashimi" which I included what that is in the photos with this review. The young lady immediately asked me which type of Ca roll I'd like with it. I said it doesn't come with a Ca roll it comes with rice, salad and soup. Very insistently the young lady said we don't have a "Kokoro Sashimi" only a "combo" I said I'm looking at it right now on your website and it says you do have what I'm asking for. After a few minutes of back and forth and being put on hold she comes back with yes they do have that. I said Great!! With salmon please. She the. Said literally right after I said that "What kind of Sashimi did you want? I said SAlMON" please. She the repeated my order as "Tuna" sashimi and Again I corrected her and said SALMON please not Tuna I do not like Tuna. She said oh okay. She asked if wanted anything else I said no thank you and she again... says That was "Tuna?? Right??" ‍‍ I said no I would like Salmon!! I ran down to the restaurant from SVMH and grabbed my bag and paid for my meal I even tipped better than usual because it was ready fast. I stupidly didn't look in the tied off bag I was in a hurry. I get back the hospital to sit down and eat and..wait for it... it's TUNA!! I was upset but I politely called the restaurant and they told me that the clerk had double verified that I ordered "Tuna" I said well I should have checked my bad while I was there because I know I ordered Salmon and said it more than 3 times. I NEVER order tuna. She said well it wouldn't have mattered because you ordered Tuna so we wouldn't have given you a free Sashimi anyway. I told them I just spent $42 bucks for 9 pieces of tuna salad and cucumber salad on the side. I didn't even get my soup and I'm not asking for free food just what I ordered. Bottom line I won't be back they said next time remind them what happened they'll ad some soup or an extra salad. This was not a good experience especially since I don't normally treat myself to such an expensive lunch. Too bad Kokoro I have brought you tons of business over the years between friends, family gatherings etc.. I won't be back! FYI I didn't order online because I wanted double salad no rice and they option wasn't there online.

For my dish, I ordered their salmon teriyaki and crunch roll lunch. It came with miso soup, salad, and rice. The miso soup was good. The salad dressing was delicious. The salmon was unfortunately overcooked and a bit stiff. The rice was dry too and not the typical sushi rice that I am used to, so that took away from the tastiness of the meal. The crunch roll was not my favorite. The sauce drizzled on top was spicy, but I did like it. There was not much of a crunch for a crunch roll.
