My family and I are visiting Houston for the weekend. We decided to try this restaurant to enjoy some sushi. We were a little disappointed in the sushi quality. The food was not bad, but we expected better quality for the price. We ordered the combination plate and the food was salty, the chicken teriyaki was dry, and the order was wrong twice. I would recommend coming at lunch or happy hour for better pricing. read more

I've been here quite a few times, this was me and my brothers sushi place when we lived on the north side of Houston. The sushi is very good, king crab roll especially, and the shrimp fried rice was always fresh. The prices were reasonable and the decor was nice and everything always looked clean, but they have the tables really crowded. They could also work on their customer service. I mean, I understand you hate your job but that doesn't mean you should do it bad. The last woman who was attending us was purposely ignoring us and she brought us our ticket about 10min after we got our food, like she really wanted us to leave lol. This is our go to place for Sushi. Yes it's in Greenspoint but it's a bit of a hidden gem. Lobster roll is fantastic with huge amounts of lobster. Kema Crunch roll is very good too. My fav entree is the hibachi steak. I always get it with filet mignon. Ichibon chicken is good as well. read more

This place didn't do the job on satisfying my sushi crave. I ordered sushi bento, scallop hand roll and spicy oyster hand roll with hot tea. Soup and salad was decent. I was expected to get miso soup knowing I was at the Japanese restaurant, but I got egg drop wanna-be soup that kinda lack in seasoning and salad that was pretty refreshing. Sushi bento was served pretty quick. My tuna looked pretty pale and tired. Fried rice was decent. Tempura was good. Crab wonton was ok. Hand roll was good but for my taste, they overdid the spicy mayo. Killed the scallop and oyster taste. We come here once or twice a year as treat. We usually sit at the grill but the rude waitress didn't even give us an option, even though we asked. She took us to a table that was clumped with the few other customers at 6:15pm on a Friday night. This time the food wasn't good at all! The steak was cold and dry and the chicken was mysterious in that it looked like Chicken but was a weird texture The accompanying Teriyaki sauce was very watery. The Miso soup had way too much tofu. I'm visiting from California and so I was not sure how good sushi would be here, but this sushi was actually pretty good. Sashimi pieces were big, fish was very fresh, and everything was a solid medium price. One thing I will mention is that the waitress was quite rude to us giving us no time with the menu and slamming drinks down on the table. We tried this restaurant during a one night stay at a hotel a few minutes walk away. I'm not sure why so many people gave this spot 4 stars because, this place was just meh..but maybe this is Houston's idea of Japanese? The restaurant is located in a little strip mall, the service was friendly enough. We ordered chicken katsu w/ tempura and the chicken udon. The udon, although piping hot was bland. The chicken katsu was cut into the teeniest, tiniest strips I've ever seen and was dry. The tempura was what was the most puzzling... the batter didn't seem to be tempura/panko batter..but more like fried fast food batter. It had a strange texture and wasn't all that good. STAY AWAY! I ate there last night. Disgusting. After eating a piece of my first tuna roll, I noticed a long hair on my plate. They only remade one roll and said the hair didn't touch the 2nd. It gets worse...After eating a piece of the second roll, I looked at it further. The sushi chef left the plastic on the fish!!! The food is good. Especially the hibachi side. I love it! The sushi is so so. It doesn't taste "fresh" enough to me and in terms of basics they don't really have good sushi rice. Reasonable prices for the hibachi side and the chef will interact and make jokes with you. I give this place 3 stars because the service isn't all that great. The chefs provide the best of the service for the night. Twice there was nobody in the front to greet us and we would seat ourselves just to get up and flag someone down to get a menu. They give you your drinks and once you've ordered will not check up on you. Best to order two drinks cause when you're looking around for a server to refill your drink you won't be able to find anyone! read more

I've had hibachi all over Houston and this place is hands down the Best! This has been our go to family date night spot for years and I can honestly say we've never had a bad meal. I have a 2 & 5 year old and it's difficult to take them to other hibachi restaurants because they literally sit you on top of each other, but the atmosphere is very family friendly here and we've never had an issue. It's in Greenspoint so the area is kind of sketchy, but they've made an effort to block off the parking lot for customers only. Still be aware of your surroundings here. When I sat down the waitress said yes in the most horrible tone..., and I am like ok. Sit sit. Nobody smiles. The sushi chef looking at me weird and so. I ordered the sashimi sushi deluxe. I was skeptical when my husband said this was good, but I really liked it, especially for the area. The front of the restaurant looks sketchy but it's nice inside. There's a really well-kept aquarium and nice decor. Happy Hour deals are good, nice sushi bar. We had jalapeño rolls, smoked salmon, spider rolls, and a couple hand rolls. I wish so badly I could give this place more stars simply because every time I have come here the food is excellent, sushi and hibachi both. However, the service could be so much better. Do not come here if you are in a hurry or have a timed lunch hour because you will go over time. Also, if you are not there when they open or shortly after, you will have to wait at least 30 minutes because the place fills up QUICK. The last time I went here, I was in a group waiting for one of the hibachi grills. It was around 12:15. There were 3 empty grills, but we were told the grills didn't work. Finally after waiting 20 minutes, with no hope of the working grills opening up, we asked if we could sit at one of open ones while the others finish up. Come to find out the grill we sat at was in full working order. We brushed it off because we were hungry and ready to order. We place our orders, then 10 minutes later another group gets seated at another grill in front of us. We get our salads, as do they, and by now we have been sitting for 30 minutes, and we see the chef come to what we think is our table. Wrong, he went to the table seated after us. We demanded that a chef be sent to us or we were going to leave. The chef quickly showed up and the food was good as always, but this incident left kind of a bad taste and we haven't been back since. I'd say if you're willing to gamble your time, give it a shot. Otherwise, head to Uncle Tong's next door. It may not be hibachi, but the staff in there knows what great service is. read more

I had something called a Houston Roll which was mostly rice with a tiny amount of the main ingredients inside the roll and a pile of mush on top. What the ??? Never again. Ichibon is tucked away in a corner of small strip center across from Greenspoint Mall. I was in the area and decided I would give it a try. It may be that I arrived during the slow or down time (3:30 pm, right after the lunch crowd, but too early for happy hour), but the place was pretty much empty, with the exception of one table that had two other patrons seated. I waited for about a minute before the hostess came to greet and seat me. The restaurant was clean, but the decor could use some updating. The waitress was friendly and attentive. I ordered the Jalapeno Roll, which consisted of shrimp tempura, smoked salmon, cream cheese, jalapeno, rolled in seaweed, fried, and topped with eel sauce. The roll was listed as a "Specialty Roll", and given this distinction, my expectation was that it would be representational of some of the restaurant's better sushi options. The roll did not impress me. It tasted average at best, and I would have found something more appealing and appetizing in a grocery store variety sushi. It wasn't terrible, but it didn't meet my expectation of a "Specialty Roll" from a restaurant. The shrimp tempura seemed a bit soggy, which made me question if it had been prepared ahead of time, then reheated. I also tried an order of the fried eggrolls. They were ok, again, nothing to write home about. The green tea, on the other hand, was excellent! I had two cups. I had thought about returning on another day during a peak hour to see if perhaps it was just that I visited during the wrong time (because honestly, this is the closest sushi place near my house), but as I was leaving, I noticed the hostess seated at one of the tables facing the exit, clipping her nails. I have been to this place several times. Love the food every time. Totally fresh and the restaurant is super clean. Decor is cool also. Great for party's. Very easily served large groups of people and all my kids always love it. You can make a reservation but not necessary. Check it out . You would be sorry. I absolutely love the sushi at Ichibon (especially the 2005 roll) but the only downfall is having to always track down your waiter! I use the low sodium soy sauce and I forgot to ask for it when I placed my order and I finally had to track down a bus boy to help me b/c my waiter was nowhere in sight. They also take a long time to bring out your check and bring it back so you may want to ask for your check when the food comes!! I went to Ichibon for lunch in good memories of Ichiban on Hwy 6 and Hwy 59 in Sugarland as I had a craving for some Tilapia Katsu. Long story short, if your lunch is to go, soup and salad are not provided. Therefore, I decided to have my lunch at Ichibon. Soup wasn't miso soup, but some kind of inedible variety for my taste. Salad was fresh and ok. I ordered Tuna Teriyaki lunch, it sucked big time. Out of the bento box, I only ate steamed rice (good lol) and mushrooms that were served on top of tuna. I was also surprised that california sushi pieces were not included in the bento box. Tuna was disgusting, as were tempura vegetables. Water served also had some by-taste. Service was slow to me personally, it was much faster to the loud guy who came in later and seemed to be a frequent guest. read more

Currently here with a large group. When we walked in we arranged the tables ourselves and they brought us water and then left. 20 minutes went by and they still didn't return to take our orders. We had to go find a server to request someone to assist us. After ordering food it took 10 minutes to get three soups out, and another 45 minutes for entrees to start coming out. i've always heard about ichibon from my coworkers and some friends but never got a chance to try it. my wife and i finally went there a couple of weeks ago after having a craving for hibachi. before going, we were told to request for sid to be our chef. not wanting to be disappointed, especially for our first time, we did what we were told and waited for sid to cook for us. all i have to really say is that the wait was well worth it! sid did an excellent job as both an entertainer and chef. i was really amazed at his hibachi skills and could not have expected anything better. will definitely be going to see him again! read more
