I was looking all over north Houston for a Sushi place and this is where all the searches were "pointing" to, so I thought I'd give it a try. Well, it's not bad, but I wasn't blown away either. I've had a LOT better sushi than this. I had the "Jalapeno" roll which was spicy tuna, crab, jalapeno, cream cheese, etc and was 'flash fried'. The roll itself was pretty small - so, for $10.95 I was expecting more because I've gotten more for less at other places. The atmosphere and cleanliness of the place was good but, for good sushi, I'm sure there are plenty more, better choices that Houston has to offer. read more

On Wed May 17,2017 dined at the Pasadena Location Sat on the Sushi side food and service was very under par. Hibachi dinners were dried out like the food was prepared earlier. Have I just been spoiled by good Japanese in LA? Not sure. I had the nabeyaki udon, which was super salty. The shrimp tempura was stale and way too bready. I also shared a chicken teriyaki bento over a bed of fried rice. I guess the chicken and the fried rice was the best part of this meal. The sashimi was ok too. Also, what I thought was really bizarre, was that the soup that they served with the bento box was not miso soup, but it tasted like egg-drop soup....um....wrong country? Maybe this place is owned by Chinese people, which would explain that soup, but...I was personally a little offended. Not really a great "Japanese" place to go to, in my opinion. read more

My issue is a bit different from the other reviews....I thought the service was good and everyone was very attentive and really polite. My issue was the food. It started with their Miso soup which I thought lacked flavor. I got the Ichibon chicken and asked for it to be spicy. It wasn't very spicy and maybe I didn't read well, but it was just glazed battered chicken (but there was a lot of it). I would give this place another shot, but might do it a bit differently. read more

Anyone who knows us...knows that WE LOVE SUSHI! I was facebooking it today and a friend mentioned lunch, our lunch schedules are different so meeting was out....but I kidded and told him, "Go get me some sushi!" He ended up telling me about Ichibon Sushi. So off I went! From the outside, it looks like any other 'strip center' place. Upon entering you immediately see they are set up for Japanese Grilling with the grill top in the tables to your right, sushi bar in the rear and regular table setting to your left. The decor is very nice, Asian and not overdone....which I always notice at places. So I ordered the lunch special for the day....4 pieces of sushi, one hand roll, spicy tuna roll, soup or salad for $9.95. Okay...I bite. The wait was not long for my order and I rushed back to the office to dive in. Overall, the sushi was very fresh! The portions were large and the tuna in the hand roll was abundant! But they forgot my soup or salad. :( So, I was pleased with the sushi, not so much that they forgot a portion of my order. And did I mention the person working the front (host)? To say the least, he reminded me of Jim Bruer in Halfbaked.....in looks and personality, I could have done with out that. Hehehe... Service is always important, and unfortunately this place doesn't bring much of it to the table. Walked in to order a simple to go order and was promptly skipped over by the hostess TWICE! (She saw me walk in and simply ignored me when I raised my hand and stated I had been there first) Another hostess walked up and then asked me if I was waiting for a table of two. Needless to say, I wasn't pleased with my first experience here. Since I was ordering for a coworker as well I had to sit it out and wait 20 minutes for 3 rolls... Pleasant surprised to find this gem in the middle of the hood. The food was authentic and tasty. Service was great, a lot of attention to guest,even gave us recommendations on what to order. I went to Ichibon because it was highly recommended by a local--I was in town for a business trip. The outside of the restaurant was a little dark and depressing...unfortunately the inside matched. The music was smooth jazz and soft rock. The decor was appropriate and typical for a Japanese restaurant. I waited to be seated; probably two minutes after entering I was greeted by a server and taken to my table. There were four other tables full with about 30 tables empty and three people at the sushi bar that seats 18. The place had just opened 45 minutes ago for lunch. The waitress came by and took my drink order. I asked for a Coke Zero and she countered with "Diet Coke?" to which I agreed and off she went. About two minutes later she returned with the Diet Coke and took my order: edamame, spicy tuna roll, and a vegi roll. After seven minutes she returned with the two rolls I ordered. I never got the edamame, but since I wasn't terribly hungry, I didn't mention it. The spicy tuna roll was amazing. The powdered heat on the outside of roll was surprising and delicious. The vegi roll was traditional and finely cut...very professionally done. The food was great. After finishing the rolls, the server asked me if I would like anything else to which I replied just the check. She returned with the bill quickly, took my card, and returned within a minute or so...very prompt. If it wasn't for the depressing exterior, dark interior, odd music selection, and missing one of the items I ordered, I would have given five stars. The service at Ichibon is always spot on and the hibachi show that they put is has always been one of the better ones that I've seen in terms of entertaining. Their hibachi food and sushi are also pretty good, not the best, but also not bad either. Going during lunch time is the best, because otherwise I'd say their prices are a little bit too much. I'd recommend this place if you are in the area, simply because there aren't really any other sushi places near Greenspoint other than further up north on I45 [Tokyohana Grill, which his HORRIBLE], and also because they have consistently great service. read more

In my opinion, it's very difficult to go wrong with Japanese food. It's simple and healthy and usually quick. Ichibon does the job--not spectacularly, but enough. Ichibon is situated among the other stores/restaurants/services in the ABS-Hilton arcade. It's near a Curves and a yogurt/doughnut shop. They have a sushi lunch special that I decided to forego over an udon soup. I think I'll try the sushi next time. For lunch, hot soup can be a bit of a chore. read more

I came here for teppanyaki( teppanyaki is cooking on a flat grill while hibachi refers to cooking over a flame) meal with a couple of friends. The chef was polite and kept the others entertained, but after eating at these types of restaurants for so many times the volcano and choo choo train failed to keep my attention for long. Nevertheless, I came here for the food. The prices were more reasonable then other teppanyaki places, but I felt that my filet was not as tender as I expected. The chef did cook my steak to the proper temperature with my requested seasoning of garlic butter and light soy sauce so that was a plus. Everyone else in my party enjoyed their meal. Ichibon has been here in the Greenspoint area for well over a decade, and it's provided good sushi for all that time. A bit expensive off the menu, but the Lunch Sushi Special and Bento Boxes are always reasonable and delicious. Definitely a white-collar cliente from the local Oil Companies that fill the surrounding skyscrapers, but jeans and T-shirts get accomodated too. Service is good, although a little slow at the height of the lunch rush. This resteraunt is usually not very busy in the evenings. read more

I brought my mother here for her birthday one day during the week. It was close to opening time so it wasn't very packed and we beat the lunch rush. She's never been to a hibachi grill before but I already know the you're paying for the presentation not the taste/flavor of the food. For our meal, she ordered the chicken and I had the shrimp and fish of the day (red snapper). They also start you out with rice (steamed or fried), salad with ginger dressing and soup. I've been here several times and always enjoy myself and she did as well. I love the soup but the ginger, not so much. She asked for Italian dressing but all they carry is ginger. He did all the tricks that they're taught and made her feel special on her birthday. read more

Decent place for sushi. We were traveling from Houston to Dallas, and got hungry about 1 mile into the trip, so I got on my Yelp app and found this place a few minutes away. Service was good, the sushi was good, we really enjoyed the lunch specials. They could really use to clean the place up a bit, there was trash and receipts in the entryway, and the bathrooms were pretty bad. This is kinda funny, and not important really, but the music was really something else, pop songs covered in a elevator music type way, and a little too loud to ignore! They're always busy at lunch time, but service is fast and efficient. I refuse to ever visit this place again because of the service and the inconsistency in pricing. Our favorite item is the King Fish Roll which is featured on the Happy Hour Menu which they so conveniently forget to give some customers and if the staff feel that they can get away with it they will charge you regular price if you don't challenge the charge. Our cost for two rolls went from being just under $20 to well over $30 because they like to overcharge especially if you add garlic. We are one couple they don't ever have to worry about. However we do miss their phenomenal Sushi Chef, Nacho! read more
