The very nice gentleman on the call told me that the fee to come out would be $15, and gave me an estimated quote of about $35 to pop open the car itself. Of course, depending on the type of car I had, maybe the price would go up or down. I don't drive some complicated high end car with crazy locking mechanisms-- I don't even drive a vehicle manufactured in this decade, so I figured that a $50 fee for fumbling my keys sounded about right. It was even a holiday-- maybe they'd tack on a few more dollars for the inconvenience. Sucks, but okay, that's fair. What I didn't expect was getting charged $200 to open up my fourteen year old car AND THEN an additional $20 charge for showing up, well over five times the price I was quoted (AND an extra $5 that was contradicted the fee they told me before.) I was so utterly taken aback and shocked that I didn't know what to say, didn't want to kick up a fuss in front of someone who had already shown up on my doorstep while my groceries melted in the back, and didn't even ask for a name until half an hour later, when I was like, "What the hell just happened??" It took him less than 5 minutes to open up my car. I really don't know what to say. I was so surprised that I agreed to the charge, and I'll pay it since that's what I signed for. (OVER TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS. I could have probably kicked in one of my windows and had it replaced for less than that.) I'm not some cheapskate unwilling to pay people for their services. But I wish they weren't so deceptive about the quotes, and have to wonder if they lowball you on purpose so they can surprise you with a much higher charge on the spot. The person who opened my car kept emphasizing that my insurance will cover the charge if I file a claim. Maybe my insurance will, maybe they won't, and maybe they'll use that as an excuse to jack up my rates-- I'm still waiting to hear back from them. But that's really not the point. I gave him a detailed list of everything I wanted done, and he provided a separate estimate for each item. I had three locks that needed attention: the front door lock needed to be replaced with a digital lock, the back door lock needed to be repaired because it wasn't locking properly, and a new lock needed to be installed on the master bedroom door. Alfonso provided an estimate for each job. He did an excellent job completing everything on my list. What impressed me most was that he didn't try to sell me a new lock for the back door. After inspecting it, he determined that it only needed to be adjusted, cleaned, and lubricated. He fixed it and didn't charge me anything for the work on the back door. What a nice and honest guy! I highly recommend Alfonso. He is honest, professional, and sticks to his original estimates as long as the work description is accurate. They decided to take this gig knowing the distance before he came and I told him I also need help with my back door that is not able to close properly when he explained on the phone consultation how he is going to fix the issue I told him specifically " just come and fix the front door and explain to me what you are going to do about the back door when you get here" thinking maybe I will be clear and understand better when he came. He checked on the back door saying that he will need to adjust the back door so then lash will be in the hole properly and we left it as is. I said let's fixed the front door first he fixed the front door and said that I need to pay him $195 and said he already fixed the back door. I was working inside a house. I did not see him walking to my back door, fixing the back door and he now wanted to charge me another $130 just to adjust the back door's plate and I left with no options but have to pay. I wish the whole process was more transparent.. when I question about the work and the pricing I said I did not agree to move forward and he got visibly upset and saying I want to change the story and even said the $65 is just for him to come over because he lives far. all of this does not make sense to me. It seems like a rip off. They did fix the front door by replacing the key. So I appreciate that. However this experience left with bad taste and I won't hire them again. Nor would I recommend him to anyone. Reading other people's reviews I notice this is not the first time he did this. I will never ask someone to drive long distance to do the work without paying them, however charging more or work on the project without prior to giving a quote and getting the agreement. It's just not how you should run the business in my opinion.
