We've been coming to Iconz on and off about 6 years. Started when they were on Kettering Drive. Stylist dont seem to stay. They only accept cash which is annoying. Ive been surprised twice by final cost. And had to go to Giant to get cash back. This time, I made an appoinment and tell stylist I want a $60 style. Yet, I end up with a $75 style. It wouldn't have been that big of a problem if the style had lasted. You could see the difference between natural and artificial hair. But I dismissed it thinking it was because of the style.The next day the artificial hair was separating where it was added. I was surprised because the previous style lasted 3 weeks (and would have actually been ok another but I wanted her hair washed). You also couldnt tell they were feeder braids. That stylist however no longer works there. I called and sent a picture and no one responded. I called a few days later and a young woman reported her manager would call me back. I have yet to hear from anyone. Very poor customer service. read more

I've came to this salon on three different occasions and had my hair done by three different people and none of them have a clue as to what they are doing they have no expertise in styling hair. I asked the lady for two French braids which seems kind of simple to me. After the stylist finished I told her my hair was uneven she says to me 'no its not' what type of comment is that to give to a customer. Not only was I overcharged for something that didn't look that great( even after she did my hair over) she seemed like she had an attitude when I told her the problem. Most area salons charge $15 to $20 per braid and they're charging $30 what a shame it's not like the styles are worth it. My daughter's appointment was at 1:00. It's now 1:57 and we're still waiting. When I asked the lady at the front desk what the problem was, she said "One of the stylist called in. We only have 2 stylists here right now and they are both busy". SAY WHAT! They should always have at least one additional stylist working, especially since they take walk in appointments. They clearly have no respect for other people's time and frankly, I can't believe they are still in business! And if waiting almost an hour isn't bad enough, they only take cash! If my daughter didn't start school in two days, I would have been gone! Ridiculous! I can see why they have such a low rating. read more

My daughter has been a client here for a little over 2 years. However, we will not be returning. While the stylists are talented, the owner is overwhelmingly rude, abrasive and embarissingly harsh with the stylists in front of customers. Last week my daughter had an appointment at 5:30pm. However, due to my work schedule change we arrived a little over an hour early. I told the owner we were early and happy to wait until her appointment time if they were busy. We waited and watched as the owner accepted multiple walk-ins. At 6:45 we were still waiting and several walk-in clients had already started their process. We left the salon an hour and 15 minutes after her scheduled appointment time, as it seemed the owner purposely took my daughter off the waiting list and I'm not sure why. As I mentioned, we told the owner we understood that we were very early and did not expect to be taken in front of clients who had earlier appointments. But to take walk-ins after my daughter's appointment time is unfair and unacceptable. If you don't mind being barked at by the owner when it's time to pay or being overlooked during your appointment time, this salon is the place for you. read more

THE WORST SALON EVER!!! DO NOT TAKE YOUR KIDS TO ICONZ, PERIOD!!! I should have gotten the hint when they called me the day of my 13 year old's appointment to let me know that the stylist called off and they were giving my daughter another stylist. All she wanted was box braids and instead she got a pigtail like hair style for $115. When I called to complain, I got hung up on. When I eventually got the manager, she put me on hold and never came back. The so called ms something at the front desk was so unprofessional. She was arguing with me and said I asked for the standard box braid. Huh? Box braids worth $115 should not be 13 braids total. Are you kidding me? I could have done that myself! She also put me on hold and never came back. When I called back multiple times, they made sure I never got through. I have heard horrid stories about this place but I wanted to give them a chance! My daughter use to work for them. They are very unprofessional!!! They make up prices in their head, 70 30 split for the employees and the owner gets 70% plus the staff have to buy their own products...how are they going to make money that way. The staff works themselves to the bone with no lunch or even a break to regroup. She is only after the money and don't give a hoot about her staff or clients and very, very rude! The turnover of staff is ridiculous...I guess so if you don't have any respect for them and treat them like kids because she knows they are young and need a job. I don't see them lasting at the Largo/Kettering location. Good riddens to bad rubbish!! She needs to take a class in business etiquette and learn how to be a better business owner to her clients an also her staff. Would not recommend them to anyone. read more

This place is horrible. They make up prices and they over charge. The owner has a rude attitude and so does the employees. I asked for a Mohawk and she put my daughters hair in a cornrow ponytail. Despite the attitude, messed up braids and the over pricing I continuously came back. DO Not WASTE your TIME or MONEY! Final straw they booked me an appointment on a day they were closed. They are rude and inconsiderate. They over charge and many of the stylist have attitude for im apparent reason. I will NEVER USE this salon again for my step daughter hair. So I give it a solid two stars solely for decor's sake. The atmosphere was very clean and inviting. The stylist were very relaxed and professional. The front desk staff were inviting and friendly. I was very pleased with everything and over looked the pricey charge of 40 bucks to take out braids and do a wash and blow dry. The stylist took her time and was very friendly, she washed her hair thoroughly, dried her natural hair and oiled her scalp. My experience was stellar until I went to pay. I ask if I can use the coupon on the counter that states "$5 off any service" and I'm told "oh that's only for a style". In my mind I think well the flyer doesn't state that, but it's cool, because I really wanted to like this place. I hand the receptionist my credit card only to be told after sitting their for an hour that they don't accept credit or debit, CASH ONLY! *side eye* Red Flag! The individual proceeds to tell me that they've been in business for 10 years and for the last 4 they changed their policy on taking credit cards due to "issues"... At this time I explain how much of an inconvenience it is to not accept electronic forms of payment, but also wait until the end of an appointment to make that known. Second red flag, you purposefully waited till the end of the appointment so I couldn't refuse service. I'd be forced to pay. I then walked next door to Giant, paid an ATM fee on top my the already inflated price for a wash and blow dry. I left rather irritated and with firm conviction that my daughter will now see my Dominican Stylist that I've been going to for 7 years. Who will only charge $ 40 for a wash, blow dry and press. about 5 years ago, this place used to be fantastic. The past few years it has really gone to hell. My last 3 visits were nothing but mis-management. really, 3 hours for a press and curl. I will NEVER go back. I don't blame the stylist, the management is horribly. Making an appt. at 2 means you wont get out until 5 or 6. I now take my 10 ear old to BUBBLES in Bowie. Forewarning :The service actually gets a 0. It is quite disappointing when you plan ahead and make an appointment weeks in advance and then you get horrible customer service when you arrive. The owner is very insensitive, disorganized, forgetful, and rude. I have visited the salon and only returned occasionally because of a specific stylist but now that she is gone I'm certainly gone. I made an appointment weeks ago for my 2 daughters and emphasized that I need to be done by a specific time to attend an event. I requested 2 stylists to work on my daughters hair simultaneously. (The last time I made this appointment the owner messed up my appointment, but I tried again because the stylist was so kind, fast, and accommodating that she completed them on time. ) Now, the owner called me 2 days before my appointment to tell me she only had one stylist available and told me to arrive an hour earlier to assure completion on time. We arrive and waited 2 hours and she was still working on another client. I decided to leave and because all good is to come, my daughters' hair look beautiful because of the gracious 'stylist' that went out her way to service them. Please note that I found out my preferred ' stylist' left 2 weeks ago because of poor treatment by the owner and she took advantage of her stylists and did not compensate them well. I always try support local businesses. I am disappointed in the services provided today. Proceed with caution or better yet find someplace else to take your child. ICONZ 4 KIDZ is overcharging for children's styles on natural hair. Now after coming to Yelp I see other one star reviews and I wish I had of seen them prior to taking my children to this salon. My daughters appreciate their chemical free/natural hair and should not be charged more if it takes a stylist a little patience to de tangle it after a shampoo and proper conditioning. Not to forget that both had shoulder length hair and were charged additional for length too. I will do my best to tell everyone I know to find another establishment. To the Manager that I spoke to who was rude on the phone and carrying on a side conversation when I called to complain. You lack professionalism and your customer service skills are null and void.....Spend that $145.00 wisely because you just lost two potential regular clients. read more

I usually only go to get my children's hair braided, the braids always look nice, they are close by where we live, and the wait usually isn't long. However, I am going to start looking for another salon. They absolutely over charge, and seem to make up prices as they go. They have a price list on the wall, but will hit you with a final cost above what's listed, after the style is done. Usually by 5-10 dollars, and no one can really give a good explanation why, except 'the hair style you wanted done was more complicated to do' or some bs like that. Well the last time I brought my child there, they billed me $70 for a $45 dollar style. Claimed the style she wanted, which was basically just a cornrow style, takes more time than the $45 'cornrows with designs' advertised in the salon, and had tacked on another $10 for 'length'. I bring her there regularly, and had never been charged for length, nor was her hair longer than the last time she came. It had actually just been trimmed. They seem to come up with add-ons to charge you off the top of their heads, and if that wasn't bad enough, expect you to pay CASH. They do not accept credit or debit in 2017, which is weird. Never would I have agreed to pay $70 for child's cornrow style with just her natural shoulder length hair if I had known beforehand. And I didn't have enough cash to cover the surprise overcharge, so I got in a long back and forth with the front desk person and stylist. The stylist was not rude and she was apologetic at the 'misunderstanding', but the whole thing was ridiculous. This place has moved a few times but now it's located by the Target in Largo. This place has potential but they go through stylist like water. The stylists can also be unprofessional and they only take cash (which is so inconvenient). They're also super slow, my daughter came for cornrows with her own hair nothing elaborate and it took them from 5:15 to 8, sheesh! I think if they cut back on the talking they probably could finish 2 hours earlier. The day I came the lady who checks people in, forgot to greet me and she was doing her own hair as I waited for my daughter to finish. I saw her wash, blow dry, and flat iher blue green hair so I guess I was somewhat entertained. I've also visited the kid salon in Wheaton Mall, which is way better -- if we only lived closer. I drive nearly an hour to get to Iconz because there just isn't a place like this closer to me and I can only do a crooked ponytail. Everyone, to my experience, has always been polite and the styles last for a while. Why not 5 stars...well they only accept cash which is inconvenient and they're not good at returning calls for appointments; when making that drive I need to be certain my daughter will be seen with no wait time. Lastly, they charge extra for long hair! My daughter doesn't get hair added so there are no blending issues, but what can I do but pay the fee. But, overall its a good place and I will continue to make the drive and spend the coin! read more

Lack of respect for customers time and money. Had a 6pm appt and they called 10 min before and pushed it to 7pm. Get there at 7 the stylist I requested has started on sometime else's hair. No one touched her hair until 7:30. At 11pm and style not as requested (on a school night) they expected payment???? After 6+ years of supporting this business, that is the last BEYOND generous $20. I guess I should have read the other comments before booking because they were my exact experiences. The owner is rude and nonchalant and don't care what you say because she has it in her mind that your gonna pay the final price no matter what you were quoted in the beginning. I brought my daughter for her appointment and was quoted $70 for a style but then ended up paying $85 because it was extra work when i showed the picture from the beginning. I believe this is a scheme they use because all the stylist remain silent while the owner argues you down but they know the clients are right smh. I also ended up getting my 2 nieces hair done and the braids were not small like a picture they pointed out but charge you for small. I was so excited to bring my daughter because it is so close to my house but now I will have to continue the search because this establishment was the worst. Not to mention everyone that came in the door after us had appointments but none of the salon staff acknowledged them or were available to assist. If I could give 0 stars based on my visit today I would. My daughter has been going here since she was 5 she's now 7. I've never really had any issues until today.We went in to get a quick style. 4 feed in cornrows with a wash and blow dry. First of all, this place has a high turnover. They can never keep consistent stylists. Once I find someone I like they're gone the next week. So today I went with a stylist named Precious when I was supposed to have Temi or someone named like that. Precious advised me they charge an additional $20 now to wash kids hair. What?! Usually I pay between 50-70 for feed in braids with beads. She was getting 4 cornrows feed in with no beads. I paid $80 today which is ludicrous. The braids looked ok but nothing worth no $80. Also she explained to me sometimes they forget to add on the $20.00. Hence why l paid $60 two weeks ago with another stylist named Shawna. I'm like girl bye ok. That ain't nothing but highway robbery. Inconsistent pricing and horrible service. The salon is new and beautiful but I WILL NOT BE BACK!! My daughter has been going to this salon for years. I have been faithful even through the constant relocating. I can honestly say that today is my daughters last visit to Iconz 4 Kids. My husband took my daughter and asked for her usual hair style "half and half". When I saw my daughter her hair was done in a completely different style. Not thinking that it wouldn't be a big deal, I called that salon and asked if I could bring her back to have the style corrected. The gentleman on the phone took down my information and said he would call me back. After two hours I decided to go in person to the salon as I had some shopping to do in the same shopping center. The same man that I spoke to on the phone was sitting at the desk playing on his cellphone. He told be "oh I got busy and forgot to call you back". Again I inquired about rectifying the situation and he became irritated and extremely rude. He started yelling at me so I raised my voice and told him that I had been a long time customer and that I was not happy with how he was treating me. He became so belligerent my mother had to step in and defuse that situation. Finally after going back and forth a new appointment was made to have another stylist fix my daughters hair. I again mentioned that I had been a long time customer and that I was considering not returning because of how I was treated. His response was "fine, good for you". I have never been treated so poorly. I asked for the salon owners information and he told me that he was the owner. I highly doubt that he was the salon owner.
