We happened to be in Perrysburg and making our way through town, we turned around to check out a garage sale. When turning out of the parking lot to make our way back to the garage sale, Mr. Freeze was right across the street. Needless to say, after the garage sale, we just had to stop at Mr. Freeze for a taste test. Wow, definitely my favorite soft serve ice cream place in Toledo if not ever. I am a huge soft serve fan and am usually craving that more than regular ice cream. Fewer calories, smoother taste ... what's not to love? Mr. Freeze happens to have a ton of soft serve flavors which you can swirl with the original vanilla for any of them! The sizes are also HUGE. A baby size is larger than what you would get at McDonald's. The milkshakes are creamy perfection - especially the cookies & cream one which has oreo chunks but also little slivers of chocolate and it's just so rich and decadent!! All of this came to only $4. Amazing value for the quality and quantity. Passed by a "twisty treat" en route to here and that place was abandoned whereas the line here was ridiculously long. I haven't been a Toledo native but it seems like the rest of the city knew what was up. My brother ordered a small ice-cream cone and it was the size of my hand, and I've got pretty big hands. It's a simple dessert shack with loads of choices and enormous sizes. It's affordable and simplistic. There aren't many places to sit, but there is a park behind the establishment that the kids can play at or you can sit and chill (in the sun). You'll find me just hanging out Clerks style, at the side, leaning against the wall with my homies. There's not much go say aside from their epic sizes, as the menu is very overwhelming in a good way, the service is fast and kind, and there's not really seating or any additionally needed assistance. You go in, order, get out, eat. I plan to return and begin another quest of ordering everything until I find my favorite. I got the something with birthday cake and it was very creamy and filling. My mom tried a sprite fruit ice mix, it was okay, not as refreshing as the slurpee I expected. All in all, it's a quick and easy dessert local with the barebone necessities you would expect. After spending 2 days in Perrysburg and seeing a huge line out of this place everyday, I decided I had to try it. I read reviews and knew they were known for their sundaes so off we went. The real menu with prices was so hard to see as it was behind the glass windows and the Windows had a bunch of stuff taped on them promoting their sundaes. Each sundae sounded better than the next. My husband tried to order the chocolate chip sundae - chocolate chip cookies, hot fudge, chocolate chips and ice cream and was informed it came in quart size only. Upon thinking that was way too much, he stepped to the side to order something different. I then tried to order the German chocolate cake sundae and was also informed it only came it quart size. So basically all of their cookie or cake sundaes only come in one humongous size so you will have to share. We ended up going with the cookie one and while it was big it definitely wasn't in quart size. Place is cash only. No seating, but a park nearby. Ample parking. read more

I'm going to break down my experience with Mr. Freeze. 1.) It's ALWAYS a mad house and you are waiting forever. 2.) They only accept cash, so you have to make sure you have cash on you or you need to stop at an ATM first. 3.) The ice cream is good and they give you a lot, but it's hard to screw up soft serve. So, despite the large portion sizes, the long wait times and the inconvenience of needing cash, push this down to three stars. What was your childhood in NW Ohio without Mr. Freeze?? I was lucky enough to get to indulge in my favorite childhood treat on my trip home to visit my family. Since it's not full-blown spring in Ohio yet, there was no line (an impossibility if you come to Mr. Freeze from about May to when they close in the fall). Hands down their Turtle Sundae is THE BEST thing they offer and the best I've ever had. I've tried to replicate their Turtle Sundae at home with just vanilla ice cream, pecans, caramel, and fudge ... It can't be done. It's an original and not to be replicated. Their other sundaes are tasty too but I literally have dreams about Mr. Freeze's Turtle Sundae. Yum.
