And, bonus, lots of conversation zones inside and out Coffee is relatively good. This location has cold brew nitro, however it's not an option with decaf. Always on point! Equator's coffee, I maintain, is the best in Canada. Smooth, rich, and with amazing depth of flavour. Really cute spot, I'm excited to have finally stopped in! I was a bit overwhelmed by the extensive menu, so upon recommendation I tried the turmeric latte, and it was so good! I love turmeric everything so, that helps. They have lots of other options including affogatos and milkshakes. I like that they give you a number for your order so that you can find a seat and they bring it over. Really neat, it just feels like such a warm and friendly place. I'm happy that there's a small parking lot in the back, that really takes some pressure off, especially when a winter visit means that snow is making street parking scarce. This place opened up a few months ago (December 2014) but despite walking by it many times, I never went in until last week. There is no dearth of coffee shops in Westboro, but it's nice to have an independent alternative among the Starbucks, Second Cups, and Bridgeheads - of which there are 2 within a block of each other (!). Stepping into the café, it definitely has that indie coffee shop vibe. Their menu is written on a blackboard. Their calorie-free sweetener is stevia. There's a big communal table as well as smaller tables. They have coffee, tea, pastries and sandwiches. I had a chai tea ($2.75) and a turkey sandwich ($7.50). If you are staying, you can sit down and they will bring your order to your table. The tea is loose leaf tea which they serve to you in a little pot. The chai was delicious - very fragrant. The turkey sandwich was good albeit a little too greasy for my liking. Before they put it in the press/grill they either butter it or oil it and I felt they were a little too heavy-handed with that. Other than that, I liked my sandwich. It had spinach, cucumbers, cheese, turkey and a sweet sauce (maybe a sweet relish?). With the tea it was a nice light lunch. Their coffee is organic and fair-trade. They roast all their coffee at their store in Almonte. Equator Coffee is a nice addition to the neighbourhood. read more

A colleague had told me that this coffee shop made her all-time favourite coffee in Ottawa, so I had to try it myself, and it did not disappoint! The shop is on an off-road in Westboro, so it's fun to browse around before/after and take a walk. I got a latte and an espresso milkshake. The latte was very well made; no bitterness, slight sweetness, and rich taste. I was really impressed, and already want to come back! The espresso milkshake was a treat, but it wasn't too too thick, so (hopefully) not too fattening! The inside of the store is super cozy, spacious, and has lots of space; it was quite full the entire time I was there (a few hours). They don't have that much of a selection of baked goods, so more homemade treats would make the place even better! Definitely coming back for some well-made coffee drinks. This is a really cute coffeeshop that's very spacious in the Westboro neighbourhood! With lots of tables and comfortable seating, free and fast wifi, this place is fantastic for meeting or if you want to get some work done! I got their Moroccan mint tea and vegan wrap. I root for underdogs. And Equator Coffee is an underdog - there's Starbucks and Bridgehead both within walking distance (Second Cup closed, and Tim Hortons isn't in Westboro). I don;t get here very often, though; although it's close to my home, it's not on my regular route to work; I'll stop in once or twice a month at most. I've been into Equator Coffee on Churchill approximately 15 to 20 times. It's not uncommon to wait for service while the staff finish a conversation amongst themselves, but the coffee is good. Here's an overview of my most recent experiences: A month ago I met someone there for a meeting and the music was so loud, it was difficult hear each other talk. Also, the internet didn't seem to be working on that particular day so we left. Last week I stopped in for a medium roast coffee and I was told it would be about 5 minutes to make a new batch, so I changed to a dark roast. I thought it was unusual to let me know they were all out after I had ordered and paid. This morning I picked up a medium coffee and the cup was only 3/4 full after I added milk. I thought that was a little odd, but I also ordered a brownie which was fresh. When I paid for my order by Interac I was prompted to leave a 15% tip, which I did, but frankly I've yet to experience anything that resembles good customer service. Overall I feel like the staff expect customers to feel thankful that they are allowed into the premises. It wouldn't hurt to smile or say thank-you to a customer every once in a while. read more

I love Equator coffee. Maybe it is because it reminds me of what bridgehead was. Their coffee is not over roasted and is smooth. There are no bitter after tones in their medium blends. And you get a nice buzz and not an over tone of coffee after taste like with Starbucks and other coffee places. They serve a small selection of alcohol here as an added bonus for adults to indulge in some social time without having to go to a bar. Their baked snack selection is just right. This is my favourite coffee shop in Westboro. It is nice to go somewhere with such a great atmosphere and a great selection of drinks, coffee and gluten free snacks. The prices reflect the quality that you get and I am pleased by the service everytime I go in. It's a great spot if you're looking for a nice, warm atmosphere for a date or even to go read a book. I've been meaning to go here for nearly two years, so when my friend suggested to stop in I couldn't resist. First impression of the place was that it's quaint but spacious enough that you don't feel crowded in with the people next to you. straight away loved the ambience, lots of windows and nicely decorated. the menu was a decent size and had some interesting options- I just opted for an iced latte with oat milk and a vegan, gluten free chocolate chip cookie. my friend is celiac so it was awesome that they have so many options for her! the prices are pretty much what you'd expect from this type of cafe- honestly they are quite reasonable and cheaper than i expected. my drink was delicious and the coffee was flavourful and strong enough without leaving a bad taste in your mouth. overall I really enjoyed going and it was the perfect place to sit and catch up with my friend. i can't wait to come back! read more

I have been previously been going to their location in Almonte where they roast their own coffee beans, but this was my first time at the location in Westboro which I like even better. The decor is modern with a cute marquee sign and was filled with trendy people working or taking a coffee break, and it had a very hip vibe. I came here after reading all the good reviews. I ordered a large cappuccino. It was served cold. Maybe it was sitting on the counter before it was brought to me. It kinda ruined my experience. I thought about asking to reheat. Maybe I should have. It might have been good cup if not for the temperature. Don't think I will go again. As another reviewer mentioned the seats here are rather uncomfortable. And the place is not accessible to wheel chair users. Couldn't see any other entrance from where I was sitting. read more

I had tea and iced tea here, both were what I expected. The setting here is uncomfortable for longer periods of time, possibly to deter people from sticking around too long? Not exactly sure! The atmosphere is beat, although it seems quite a lot of families come here and it can get quite loud with the children around. It may not be the best place to get some work done or study. Equator is one of my new favourite places for coffee. The space is simply decorated, very bright and the coffee is one of the best in the city. Most of the staff are very friendly and helpful. I bought a Chemex coffee brewer, and they offered to show me how to use it properly, and gave me a demo with a sample cup, using one of their own coffee makers. Definitely check out this coffee shop if you are in Westboro. Much better than Starbucks, and definitely on par with Bridgehead. read more
