Additionally, he found that the electrical wires in our bathroom were exposed behind the walls, and he promptly had his electrician address that. Our project consisted of adding an en-suite bath to the downstairs master bedroom. Our home is over 100 years old and was in need of MAJOR updating. This was complicated by our primary address being located in Louisiana. Bill was provided detailed drawings as well as a list of all finishes for this project. He managed the demo of an old well, a new foundation, framing, electrical, plumbing, roofing and HVAC with few or no surprises and he worked well with our graphic designer. The quality of his work far exceeded our expectations. From detailed proposals/bids to a scheduled timeline, Bill pulled off what we would consider a miracle. There were many obstacles that were addressed effortlessly and nothing seemed to interfere with the work at hand. They also told me after calling police they weren't going to leave my home. These people are vultures. Beware of calling these people. They will cheat you out of money. If I could give no stars I would. They also kept taking breaks and smoking outside of my home and went to my garage. My autistic son has asthma. Never asked permission. Just took complete advantage of me. I was in tears after this.

He has great ideas and isn't afraid to tell you if something you want to do isn't necessarily worth the expense (which we very much appreciated). They delivered high-quality work that leveraged their knowledge and expertise to ensure our new space was functional and beautiful. Some things you look for in a general contractor and rarely find are the ability to stay close to budget and timelines, and Jim and his team did both of these! Jim does a thorough of a job putting designs/estimates together, and the only change order we had (that wasn't scope creep on our part) was for some poor electrical a previous owner did that Jim couldn't have anticipated. In addition, Jim keeps your project moving. We rarely went two days without someone at the house making progress on our project; there were no extended delays due to materials or labor issues. Jim and his team also excel at problem solving. Every project has hiccups along the way, but every issue is tackled and Jim won't stop until the solution works for you. As an example, we were having trouble matching the color of some new hardwood floors to older, existing floors in the house. He helped us put down 16 stain samples and promised we would keep trying until we got it right (and we finally did!). It was very clear our happiness was extremely important to him. If you are looking for a contractor who is honest, knowledgeable, responsive, efficient, affordable, and fun to work with, Independent Remodeling is who you should work with. It's hard to find a company you would want to use a second time, but Jim will be the first person we call for future projects in our house, and who we will recommend to friends and family if they are looking to complete a project in their home.
