The floors, oh my gawd, the floors needed some love.) The person Jennifer, the owner, sent over delivered above and beyond anything I imagined. It actually pained me to say farewell to Louise. I found them by searching for "elder care" "help" in the Suffolk County, Long Island area. My late night call was returned promptly, with a (free) assessment meeting scheduled that very week. Having had experience with terrible home health aides I honestly didn't think I'd get much out of this service. But when you need help options seem limited. So here's the thing. Louise showed up the first day and didn't stop moving until she left three hours later. I had booked the minimum weekly time (3hrs 2x/week) for budget reasons. I figured we'd start to chip away at the massive to-do list. Nope. We finished my list in short order and tackled a host of other challenges. Everything and anything you'd like to do with an extra set of hands. Home Health Companions are typically something you'd book for older folks. They are a wonderful resource to keep an eye out on the elderly or infirm. (Note: They do not do heavy lifting like showering someone. They will be available to assist.) My parents eagerly looked forward to the smile Louise would bring, as well as her witty and very funny insight. If you're on the lookout for a trustworthy organization this is the one. Items will not go missing with Family First. As an example, we had been discussing my new favorite spray deodorant. As I was at the end of a bottle I offered it to Louise. Her expression was priceless. "Goodness, no! We never take any items from a client." (It never occurred to me how someone with dementia might start to give away important possessions.) We contacted Home Care Assistance who came and met with us to assess the level of care required and to find a caregiver with the required skill set to appropriately take care of my mother. They found 2 caregivers within a day and reviewed their qualifications and experience with us. We requested an interview with one of the caregivers which was immediately set up. After selecting the caregiver, our Client Manager accompanied her on the first day and stayed a while to ensure a smooth transition. Our Client Manager keeps in contact with us regularly to make sure things are going well and if there is anything additional she and the team can do to assist. It's hard enough deciding it's time to get a loved one some help, so choosing a home care provider is a very important decision. We are very happy with the care and interest Home Care Assistance staff and personnel have supplied with the care of my mother. In a fast moving world with numerous responsibilities to attend to daily, it's very comforting to know that there is someone there taking good care of my mother and to ensure she has everything she needs. In addition to finding qualified help, it was very reassuring to discover the honesty of our caregiver as well. Danielle helped our family through a difficult time. She is competent, professional and empathetic and was able to get us the help we needed in one day. My brother was recently diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer. Although he was approved for Hospice, the hospital would not discharge him until we had hired an aide for additional hours. Due to Covid, there is a shortage of health care aides. We found a facility, but they had to cancel us due to staffing problems and another facility canceled when the aide had been exposed to Covid and had to quarantine. That occurred the day before my brother was supposed to be discharged. Needless to say, he was very disappointed. We were referred to yet another facility, who could not help us, but did put me in touch with Danielle. She worked with me throughout the day, patiently answering all of my questions and helping me navigate through the process of getting the help we needed. Thanks to Danielle, my brother is going home, today, only a day later than what had been scheduled with the facility that had to cancel! Initially my Dad was very reluctant to accept help, Sr Helpers met with both my parents and they agreed initially to Mon - Fri 1PM to 5PM. The aide (Christine) who was assigned to my parents could not have been better. My parents really enjoyed having her in their home. Over time Christine became part of our family. On a daily basis we received written feedback on how our parents were doing. This gives great peace of mind with family in multiple states, the daily communication was so appreciated. Due to medical needs my parents needed 24/7 care. I reached out to Peg to let her know the date they would be released from the hospital. Peg was able to put together a very solid team of aides very quickly. Our family was so impressed with the quality of care received and how professional they all were. Covering a 24/7 schedule is not easy but never once did Sr Helpers leave anything uncovered. My parents have recently gone into assisted living and they truly miss the Sr Helpers aides who they got to know so well. I would highly recommend their services.

Following our dad's death, my siblings and I placed my mom (who has moderate-stage Alzheimer's)here for temporary respite care while her house was being sold...with the plan of having her move to my home out-of-state. When the end of the respite care was near, our mom expressed how happy she was there and expressed her desire to stay as a resident. We were hesitant at first, but thought we would give it at least a few months to be sure she enjoyed it. Does she ever! Almost 6 months later, we have never seen her happier. She is in a unit with other residents who have similar difficulties (the "Transitions" unit) where she receives the assistance she needs, great socialization and numerous activities. She has even gone to several "field trips" to outside restaurants. The facility brings in wonderful outside entertainment for their residents, and organizes activities for the residents and their families. The shared areas and individual rooms are kept impeccably clean! I would encourage anyone seeking an assisted living setting for themselves or a loved one to make an appointment to visit. After seeking a placement for several weeks, I found that there was no comparison between this facility and others. There are several different units of care aimed at the level of residents' needs. In addition, I found the pricing to be slightly less than several others in the area.

My father and I were still grieving the loss of my sister, he had been through so much in a short period of time, including the fact that he moved away from his friends and home in Florida by moving to New York. I researched many communities, however, this time I had the benefit of bringing my dad on the tours so that he could decide for himself where he wished to settle in. The Arbors was his pick! Lisa gave us the tour and my father was warmly greeted by the staff as well as the fellow residents. The Arbors offers a plethora of activities everyday and my father is hardly in his room. It's a warm and friendly environment. The staff is attentive and my mind is at ease since I know that my father's medical needs are addressed. My father has been residing in The Arbors since 2023 and continues to tell family and friends that he is "living his best life" and has absolutely "no complaints". He has a beautiful apartment, which is cleaned everyday by the staff...it's as if he's living on a cruise ship, except it's on land! My mother lives alone & unfortunately suffers from debilitating back pain after a fall. Panic setting in I was referred that evening to Amy Recco founder of Friends For Life Homecare. She immediately gave me the names of the social workers at GSH that would delay the release for 12 hours & at same time contacted a caregiver to be at my mothers home when the ambulance dropped her off.
