I ordered back in October with a ship date of November 23rd. All my chicks and Ducklings arrived this morning at my post office. I was told it would be 72 hrs they got here in 48hrs. My Postal workers said they had been Chirping since they got in this morning. We received 13RIR chicks (12 hens, 1Rooster), 5 assorted feather legged bantams and 5 Assorted ducklings. I am not sure of the exact breeds on the assortments but they are all very lively. We had one duckling running around and trying to get out of the shed that we have them in as soon as he found the door. :) They are all very adorable and happy.There customer service is wonderful and fast. First of all, I want to say that everyone that I spoke with at ideal poultry were polite, informative and courteous. The issue that I had with this company is that they shorted my order of chicks. The only reason we ordered from this company is because my wife wanted silkies and this company was the only one that had five different varieties of them available. So, I ordered one of each as well as ten additional birds and one wasn't included in my order. Of course, it was a silkie. I understand that it's only one bird, but I live on Long Island and we cannot obtain silkies here. I was advised that I would be credited for the silkie because they couldn't ship just one. I don't want the credit, we just wanted the silkie(s). The individual who I spoke with advised me that there were numerous active complaints with orders regarding missing chicks. I believe this is unacceptable for any business. When you place an order from an establishment that is halfway across the country, I'm sure the last thing that you want to happen is to make a mistake with the order and as a company, you should make it right by getting what I ordered to me. read more

They told me to take down my review and pics of all the dead chicks. Ordered 29 chicks,recieved them a day late.22 cold & looked dead.Was able to revive 5.Ended up with 7 alive after day 4.They sent me another "Free" order.I asked to pay for vaccines & stress gel.No vac.,no gel.All died,but 3.Never again! This is the worst delivery of poultry that I have ever received. I ordered 20 guineas. 7 of which were dead when they arrived and two more died shortly after arrival. They don't put any shipping gel in the box. They haven"t answered the two phone calls that I made and also sent an email that was not answered. They give you four days to notify them of the condition of the poultry that arrived but if they don't return your calls or answer your emails I guess that they can say that you didn't let them know in time for a refund. I wrote this review but deleted it in case I was wrong. I felt compelled today to write it again. Around 12-18 months ago, we started with almost $700 worth of chickens from this place. By started with, I meant that not one chicken came from any other place nor did we have chickens to start with. I had the chickens delivered to a local feed store partly because our post office does not have it together and they would just die in the box. The feed store is maybe a partner with Ideal Poultry cause the owner had the manager of Ideal Poultry on his phone and could call or text him directly. I picked lots of them up in the box the day they came in. They all came down sick and I had them tested by the state of Arkansas. They had Mycoplasma and had to be culled. I contacted Ideal to tell them that I think that they have sick birds and they told me that they did not test for Mycoplasma nor did they intend to start. They had no concern for the fact that all these birds had Mycoplasma. Once they said that, I contacted the state of Texas Poultry division since all my birds came from Ideal and Ideal is in Texas. I live in Arkansas and the state of Texas contacted Arkansas Dept. of Agriculture who contacted me. The man at the state of AR had already talked to me (he was the dude who tested my birds) and he knew that I was culling the birds so nothing came of it even though Texas contacted the wrong state. I thought about sending it back to Texas by refiling it but I decided to drop it since Texas refused to test these birds and since Ideal said it wasn't them and it had to come from the feed store. The complaint was ignored and sent to the wrong state. Ideal Poultry blamed the feed store. When I realized Texas refused to test these birds, I put a review on here to warn others since Texas refused to test the birds from Ideal but deleted it so no small business was hurt and since Ideal said no diseases came from them and it's wrong to do that. All of the birds that I owned were culled--even the guineas and turkeys and geese--everything. $700 worth of birds plus all the feed that I put into them. I waited months to start over so everything would be clean and disease free. I chose Ideal again because they told me the disease came from the feed store and not them and no one can prove where it came from since Texas refused to test the birds at Ideal Poultry. Here I am months and months later placing a new order. My credit card was charged and I get a message this morning telling me that they are refunding my money and not delivering the shipment because I complained about them to the state. I only complained cause they passed the blame onto someone else and told me that they did not test for Mycoplasma and these birds need to be tested since I had no birds to being with. I gave them the benefit of the doubt cause they promised the disease did not come from them and I deleted my one star review months ago and ordered from them again this week. That rude message reminded me that I had deleted this review in good faith so that I didn't hurt a small business. This message reminded me to put a review back up warning you what happened with us--these birds all had Mycoplasma and had to be culled because Ideal does not test for it. Shame on this place and shame on the Texas Livestock Division for not testing their birds. The only reason that they did not do it is because it is a large Texas business bringing in money to the state of Texas. That's why they passed it off on Arkansas and it was ignored from there. Their message this morning said they would not sell to me since I complained about them--I complained because I had to because all the birds are sick and they said they were not testing any of their birds. I am so infuriated by their message this morning that I put this deleted review back up. Shame on this business and shame on the Texas Livestock Commission for not testing these birds when I told them that all of mine were sick. read more

We placed our first order in July two years ago. We were afraid with the heat that time of year, but our chicks arrived early the next day in great shape. They were all healthy and great layers so we ordered more the next year. Again, we had prompt easy service and delivery of beautiful, healthy hens. Top notch customer service. I ordered a small mix of chicks for my backyard, and Ideal Poultry sent some beautiful little babies that arrived in about 36 hours. There were black cochins, ameracaunas, black kraienkoppes, and egyptian fatoumis. They all arrived in perfect health and ran around eating and pooping. There was a small problem with the shipment, and I called Ideal. A friendly human being answered the phone and was able to quickly help me out. I was impressed! I had heard some bad reviews about Ideal, but decided to give them a chance. I order around 200 chicks and poults each spring, raise them to butcher or laying age, and then sell them. I had ordered the chicks I wanted from Cackle Hatchery, and poults from Jenks, but neither of them had the blue slates that I wanted, so I ordered 20 of them from Ideal. By the time they arrived, my chicks were 4 weeks old, and my poults were 2 weeks old. All were healthy and strong, I hadn't lost a single one. When the poults from Ideal arrived, they seemed healthy. All survived the 1st night. But when we were checking everyone in the morning after the 2nd night, not only had 3 of the blue slates died, but 13 of my poults from the brooder next to them had also died! Over the next 3 days we lost 5 more blues and 4 more of the others. I contacted Ideal and immediately they said they would replace the blue slates I had ordered. I appreciated that, but they had no insight to offer for why we had so many suddenly die when up to then I hadn't lost any. They sent me 8 more blue slates, along with 6 chicks. They arrived on Wednesday. By Thursday morning, one of the chicks had died. By Thursday night, one of the blue slates had died. It is now Friday morning and another blue just died. I have been raising chickens for 40 years, I have been a vet tech for over 20 years, and a human nurse for 5. I pride myself on keeping my animals healthy, and maintaining their enclosures well. There is no possible explanation other than Ideal sent sick birds which in turn infected the others. I will be having a necropsy done on some of the birds that died, as well as having fecal tests done on survivors to see what they have. I will never be able to sell the surviving birds, nor will I be able to integrate them into my flock. This is a huge loss. Not only have I lost the $500 I spent ordering these birds, but their adult price would have been up to 10 times that! I will never order from them again. It is not worth infecting an entire flock! read more

I ordered my first chicks ever from Ideal. They told me they would take approx. 2 days to ship, and as promised 2 days after my shipment date I was able to pick my up my little chooks at the post office. They were obviously doing well as we could hear them as soon as we walked in! Ideal really goes out of their way to take very good care of their customers! I got exactly what I was promised. I have ordered chicks twice from Ideal Poultry. I will give an A+ to the quality of the chicks. However, I am extremely disappointed right now with Ideal Poultry. On their website it states sometimes they will include roosters with your order for warmth. If you do not wish to receive roosters, you are to get insurance on the chicks. The first time I drove the 2-hr trip to Cameron to pick up my order. The 2nd time, my 100-year old mother had fallen and was in the hospital with a broken hip. I had to have them mailed this time. If I had known they would add 7 roosters to my small box of 9 pullets, I would have rather drove to Cameron to pick them up. It would have taken 30 seconds for them to call and see if it was fine to include that many roosters (My coop is not big enough for 23 chickens!). I called this morning and asked if I could please bring back the seven roosters that they stuck me with.....and the answer was "No!" They seem like very nice people and I was really disappointed with their response. I will not be back. read more

I ordered 30 assorted brown layers. Rode island reds, barred rocks, Easter eggers, and australops. They arrived 2 days later, packed well. One died but they replaced it. Instead of 6 rhode island reds I got 4 rhode islands and 2 new hampshires. Not a big deal though. Would reccomend in the future. read more

Ordered 13 chicks from here last month and they all arrived happy and healthy and they are still doing amazing. I like that even with the "small order" fee, the shipping rate is very reasonable with this company, so I decided to order from them again last week. The chicks arrived at the post office this morning. We had a small loss but I called the company right away and they handled it for me. The rest of the chicks look great and I will be ordering from them again for my future orders and I will recommend others do as well. read more

Three times over the past 10 years we have ordered chicks from Ideal. Since we live within 30 miles of Ideal, we pick them up rather than having them mailed to us. Each time the chicks were healthy, eager to eat and drink, and developed into great laying hens (Black Australorps, adapted to our climate). When I placed an order this year, I was told there would be quite a wait for the chicks, but I was put on a list of orders that would accept chicks earlier. Sure enough, I got a phone call from Ideal giving me a pick-up date two months earlier than the original. Their customer service is so much more than just lip service! When you enter the office area there are signs by the employee entrance mandating Lysol spray for shoes, hand sanitizer, and don't enter if you have a cold or respiratory infection. They take sanitation and the chicks' health very seriously. We got our chicks yesterday and, from the evidence, both ends of each chick is operating at maximum. They are peeping and moving around their nursery, and napping frequently--just what you want to see in happy chicks. We are fortunate to live close enough to Ideal to pick up our chicks, but I would think that their packaging and care for through-the-mail chicks would be great. read more

I ordered a mix of cochin bantams and buff bantams. They included several production reds in the box free of charge to keep the others warm. Several of the bantams died immediately. The others over a course of a few months all died. They never gained weight. They had some sort of paralysis of their legs and wing. It was horrible. All of the chickens that I had before these did not contract the disease and they are fine. I called Ideal Poultry and was told they had nothing to do with the chicks being sick and it wasn't their problem. The man that I tried to speak with did all the talking and just basically told me he wouldn't help. I told him that I did not want a refund I just wanted to know what was this horrible sickness. He was a total jackass. I would strongly suggest buying chicks from some other hatchery. read more

Not a good experience. Ordered my ducks online, order was never processed. Called to place new order. When the shipment came, three ducks were dead. 75% of the others were not what I ordered. The remaining ducks that were alive and accurate were terrible quality stock- you're not going to get a show bird here. Called to rectify. Customer Service was rude and unhelpful. Not exactly "ideal". Save yourself the grief- order from one of the better known hatcheries. read more
