Princess Charlie has recovered well! We've been taking our pets here for the last three years. A few months ago there was a growth that started on her forehead, above her right eye. As a homecare remedy, I used what was recommended in hospitals - chlorhexidine spray. Seeing that after a few more weeks, the awkward shaped "bubble" wasn't getting smaller. It also started to appear dried, but it looked like a goat's horn; Princess Charlie became a lopsided unicorn... I scheduled a doctor's visit at Family Pet Clinic for surgical removal in May 2023. Excellent job done! It was funny seeing Charlie try to maneuver with her cone. She overcame any difficulties like a trooper! Side notes: This kitty is a survivor; a rescue from the feral traps at my daughter's university. As a kitten, she was super tiny - just a tad bigger than a palm. She's the royal age of 7 now. I wasn't ready for her to leave us - NO WAAAAY! Dr. Rena Dunahoo and her staff took really great care of our little meowy. The procedure only took a day; and sutures were removed after a couple weeks. Thank you so much Family Pet Clinic!!! Everything's all really good now. Our tiny tiger is back to her luxurious lifestyle of the best and longest cat naps, lotsa cuddles and sniffies, tidy litter box, food and water being served to her. Best of all she's a sweetheart! When you walk in the ladies greet you promptly. The customer service is above and beyond. They treat your pets like family! The clinic itself is always clean and tidy. They have a variety of food to choose from and even treats on the countertop. The boarding facility is absolutely amazing. Love the pet desk app that keeps you in the know all about your fur baby. I would do -10 is possible. since the vet office change to a new female vet. it went down hill. she will only put excuses for you to spend more money that needed. just went there today and was left with a sour taste on my mouth. my dog is up to date on all vaccines, last physical with her was less than 3 months ago with and today when I went in for a heartworm test which by the way was negative, I was told I needed to bring in receipt of past purchases of my dog meds in order to get a new prescription, and also I needed another physical by the vet to see if that will work for me. also she wanted me on a different prescription but I refused since my dogs have always been on simpatica trio, I'm sure she gets bonuses for pushing her agenda. so many excuses about them wanted to set up new hoops to jump in order to get something was simple as a tick med. I could tell since the moment I met her, she finds way to get more money out of you. the front desk isn't any better. after trying to get reasons to make me make more pointless appts I quit coming there again and moving to a different vet that really cares for my pups. read more

If I could give no stars I would. I took my cat in. She was a long haired tabby and she had some matting on her back that was becoming painful to her. So they scheduled a grooming time and told me they would probably sedate her because she's a cat and the clippers might scare her. Cool no problem. I trust them. I got covid. My daughter took Lucy in for her appointment and requested the blood screen to see if she would be okay for the sedation. She then left Lucy there for her appointment. 4 hours later I got a call. Lucy was dead. They didn't do the blood work. They just decided to sedate her and she stopped breathing. I'm DEVASTATED. This whole ordeal has torn my family apart. I would never suggest this vet to anyone. Not even my enemies. DO NOT USE THIS VET. read more

I called and they were able to see him this afternoon. The staff and vet were so nice and caring. I've taken my fur babies here many times and though I did have to wait one time for a while, they're normally quick and knowledgeable . This last time one of the techs double checked medication for my doggie to make sure it was the correct dose for his weight. They always answer any questions and are kind to me and my dogs. I took my dog to this clinic to get him his vaccinations and they ended up running a heart worm test without my consent and continued to over does him to the point that I had to take him to an emergency clinic. Called on a Friday morning when I was losing hope of finding grooming appointment for Hercules. Every groomers in Killeen and Harker Heights were booked for the weekend. Luckily Family Pet Clinic was able to take him. I was worried because of the two bad reviews they had but I was in great need of getting Herc groomed. Thankfully everything worked out great. Generally you can drop them off between 7-9 am and they will call you when they're ready. I had work that day so when they called they said it would be okay to pick up before 5:30 pm which saved me stressing out for time. Hercules came out smelling wonderful and super happy. He was responsive towards everyone from the handler to the receptionist from what I saw. I have never had the issues I've had here with my previous vets out of state. Being new in town one of my dogs had a skin infection so we took him here. We received treatment and he was doing better after two weeks. A month later it started to come back. During this process I switched to a grain free dog food in case it might be food allergies. We went back to the vet as his skin was getting infected again. He was given antibiotics and steroids again. And I was told if it happens again we should start looking at food allergies. This is after I told him that I switched to grain free and he told me no don't do that, dogs need grains. What else would they eat. I wish I would of said something then but I've never heard of wolves or wild dogs eating and grinding up barley and wheat. And a quick google search show it's the replacement used for grains that can be bad, not that dogs need grains. So as he told me my dog needs grains my husband and I both knew this was a bad experience. We also knew he didn't look at our dog much considering he was inside the vet for a short time compared to the wait. When medication time came I told him I had stuff for his ears and he pushed us to buy it and said it was like $20 no it was $30 and the spray he asked if I did have he didn't even get it. So we left with over $200 bill and didn't feel like a real solution was being provided just steroids and antibiotics again. Now almost three weeks later I used 1-800-Petmeds to order something similar to trifexis but half the price. Ive done this with my previous vet for 6 years and no issues. I called them as they have not responded to the order. I immediately am told that they don't do online because of the authenticity... it immediately sounded like the bull I received from the tech. So I interrupted and got to the point, are you going to fill it or not. So I was told I have to make an appointment and pay for a visit to get a prescription and I said I've just had two and she just said it's there policy. So I hung up and since we wanted to switch vets after the last visit this made it certain. This place is about the money, they may be nice but they give bad advice that benefits them. Their advice sounds good if you didn't know any better but do your research. Also bringing my dog in twice in 2-3 months because of a skin infection and not once did the actual doctor come out. read more

This was not the usual place that we take our animals, but it was close to our home. We had a dying 18-year-old precious kitty on her last breaths that needed euthanasia. We called Family Animal Clinic. Though there were some issues with COVID restrictions, they were able to meet our immediate needs. The staff and doctor were so very sweet, knowledgeable and accommodating. I brought my dog in to have his nails lasered and I was quoted a price of approximately $100 and a rabies shot which is another $24 when I pick him up the totals now over $200 and they only trimmed his nails because they don't laser the nails off like they said, over the phone. So basically I paid $180 to have my dog's nails clipped which I could have gone to any groomer and had it done for between $20 to $30. read more

Not impressed. Was not greeted as I came in, and when I got the paperwork to fill out I sat down with my dog and my baby in the car seat next to me. There was a cat walking around loose right next to us, that constantly tried getting into the car seat to my baby. I'm not interested in having a random cat getting up close rubbing up against my 2 month old baby, and my dog is scared of cats so that didn't help. And walking into the exam room the assistant that took my dogs temperature needs to work on her bedside manner, I doesn't hurt to answer or talk to us. We tried Family Pet Clinic, we will not be going back. No big ordeal but our pets nor I were treated like we mattered at all. We moved to Temple in June 2020. We loved and completely trusted our vet at in our previous home town with our fur babies. We stumbled upon Family Pet Clinic in our neighborhood. I called and asked if their vets would be willing to take some sutures out from our youngest pup from being spayed and they were more than happy to help. I arrived filled out all the paperwork and brought our pups entire medical histories so they could have them on file. Since this was still during the pandemic I was only allowed to wait in the car while my pup was taken into somewhere she had never been by staff who didn't even care to ask my name, her name, and or allow me to walk her up to the door. I waited anxiously in my car for about 10 minutes (which isn't too bad). When they did come out she was put back into the car and handed me all the paperwork I provided about their previous medical histories. The male staff member who brought her out proceeded to ask me "how old was the vet who performed her spay? I haven't seen suture material like that in years!!!" I was not impressed. Our former vet was a tried and true vet who knew our dogs. This staff member hadn't spent 5 minutes with me and that is how we are going to start off? I shook it off. Several months later I had a scare with our smaller pup possibly having some stomach problems and took her to the ER in town. I listed the Family Pet Clinic as our normal vet. They called the next day to check on her. After a couple more weeks I was thinking it might be getting close to time for our youngest to finish her puppy shots and we needed more flee/tick and heart-worm medication. At our previous vet we would get a reminder when those things were coming but in this case I thought we might be so new to the clinic that I should call to set up an appointment to get it taken care off. When I called I was informed that the only paper they had on my file for the dogs was the semi recent ER visit. No record of the sutures being taken out and definitely none of their previous medical history which I had provided and was ensured was "put into the system". "After checking around on my file" the staff member on the phone ensured me that none of that data was there and that if my dogs needed anything I was welcome to look at the information I had for them and could get back to them letting them know what I needed. I was dumbfounded. Again, not big ordeal but I was simply unimpressed with Family Pet Clinic and will not be taking my fur babies back. read more

Took my babies in today for their annual shots. They have a very affordable low cost vaccination clinic two Saturdays a month. Got there at 9, waiting room was nearly full. Got the paperwork filled out, cats their shot, payment and out the door in 45 minutes. The staff was so kind and caring with both of my babies. They also explained each shots purpose as they were administering them. I was very pleased with the entire experience. Will definitely be back and would recommend them! read more

Our dog is a patient here and loves the staff. We've also taken a few stray kitties in to be neutered/spayed so that we could find them homes. The service is wonderful. They always call the next day to check on your canine/feline "baby". They all love animals and are very knowledgeable. One stray they helped me with was a little female with a uterine infection. First I want to say that the staff was amazing and I would give them 5 stars, but I was not pleased with two things that happened during my experience which drastically changes my review. The pros are that they are very nice people. The first day I went to register my pets, they gave me a tour of their facility. It gave me peace of mind seeing the clinic's conditions. The cons for me was that I spent nearly 30 minutes the first day I registered my pets, since the lady up front had no idea where anything was. To her defense she doesn't work up there but that was a half hour I sat there. Then when I went another day to schedule an appointment, my application was misplaced and not in their system. I had to stop by again to redo. After boarding my pets, I was aware I had to get new vaccinations since Temple requires them annually. Mine were good for another year, but it was understandable. I asked the staff lady how much it would cost. She quoted me at $127 and I specifically asked if it was for one dog or both. She said it was combined. When I picked up my dogs I was prepared to pay no more than $200 for all their services and I nearly hit the floor when she told me it was $367 I owed! I was furious! This set me back financially because I'm in the middle of moving and trying to budget. An extra $167 makes a huge difference when you have other bills the money is allotted for. So this alone gave me a bad taste. No one should tell you one thing and then tack on a whole other charge after you had taken the time to understand what the billing would be. A few dollars over is one thing but over a hundred extra is another. Very disappointed in their lack of being completely up front especially when they knew I was visibly upset and specifically asked for the rate combined. read more

Try to upcharge and lied to me 3 separate times. I was new to the area and needed to find a vet for my puppy. I went here because it was close and convenient. Backstory I work in healthcare and worked in Pharmaceutical start-ups for 4 years now. I went three times and am very happy to establish my puppies care somewhere else. My dog went through a case of puppy mange (which is common) but I was led to believe that it would be 2 dip treatments a month for $60 each to get him healthy again. I did not do this and the mange went away on its own in 2 weeks because it usually goes away on its own!! I also ordered medications for my dog from an FDA and BBB approved site which needed a prescription (which legally they should give me and didnt) and they tried to tell me that the place dispensed drugs illegally. They are a part of the BBB and approved as an online vet pharmacy AND only sell FDA approved medications! I dont mind them wanting me to buy from them but do not lie to me about it. I cannot trust my dogs health to someone that would outwardly lie to me. That was the last time. No more... Care was average. read more

Care for my pets has always been good; honestly the two main reasons I go here is because it's close to my home thus very convenient, and two because they cut and bath pets for the best price in town. We are somewhat new to town and took our dog here to be groomed. When we arrived the morning to drop our dog off, we were told he needed a rabies vaccination (he is not due until November). Keep in mind, we were there less than a month ago for a vet visit and they copied all of his records. So, I had to go back home and get his rabies papers before they would let home stay. I understand this is needed information, but it would have been nice if they would have told me when I made the appointment or called me anytime within the 2 weeks leading up to the appointment. When we picked our dog up, we noticed that his ears were different lengths. One is about an inch longer than the other. Also, his legs aren't cut even, and other spots on the feet, face and body. Conveniently, the groomer had already left for the day. We were told we could come back tomorrow morning and she could fix it. I would expect more from a $120 grooming appointment!! I would not recommend bringing your dog here. We will not be back! read more

Do not, do not,take your animals here. This clinic is only worried about money. I spent $1000 on tests for my English Bulldog and then they decide a simple antibiotic pill would fix the problem. After moving 3 hours away our dogs got fleas, when I called for a prescription for them they refused, but told us we could purchase the medicine from them. After informing them that we just moved and did not have a vet in the new city, but our dogs really needed the medicine they still refused but again said I could drive the three hours and purchase the medicine from them. read more

I have a very difficult dog named Doc Skurlock. He has issues with everything from thunder to having someone touching his feet. He is a very high strung dog that is not above mouthing someone if he feels threatened. The folks at Family Pet Clinic take very good care of him and I know I can trust him to their care even when he is at his worst. But I know they are happier when they see my other baby Lizzy Borden (Who wouldn't be? She is the sweetest golden retriever ever). Lizzy came from an abusive home and is very shy and timid. The staff is so loving on her. I recommend them to anyone looking for a place to take their pets. read more

For starters, let me say that the only reason I joined Yelp today was to write this review. I have used this vet clinic twice, one time for a routine check-up with shots and this last time for an unexpected major surgical procedure on my pet. While the front desk receptionist and the vet's assistant were very helpful and kind, the veterinarian was BEYOND unhelpful and rude. Both EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE visits to this clinic, the veterinarian was very condescending, callous and dismissive. She acted like she was agitated that she had to waste her time to give my pet a quick 5 minute exam with little interest in giving me clear information to the questions I asked. I should have learned my lesson after the first frustrating visit to this clinic, but was in a time crunch to get the surgery done....never again read more
