My experience with Public Storage in Austin has been unbelievably frustrating. I rented a unit approximately 24 hours before my scheduled move-in. The manager called me personally, confirmed the rental, provided my access codes, and gave me my unit number. Everything appeared to be ready. When I arrived with my movers, I discovered I could not access my unit because the elevator access had been programmed for the wrong floor. This should have been a simple issue to correct. Unfortunately, there was no one on-site to help. I called the Public Storage customer service number repeatedly--at least 5 to 7 times--and left multiple urgent requests for a callback. Despite explaining that I had movers on-site and was unable to access the unit I had rented, no one responded. More than 24 hours later, I still had not heard from anyone. As a result, I was unable to move into the unit I had already paid for, while my movers stood idle at approximately $200 per hour. What should have been a routine move-in became an expensive and completely avoidable disaster. The most disappointing part wasn't the original mistake. Mistakes happen. It was the complete lack of support afterward. If someone had simply answered the phone or returned a call, the situation likely could have been resolved quickly. My takeaway is this: Public Storage was extremely responsive when I was renting the unit. Once they had my money and a problem arose, I was effectively on my own. I would strongly caution anyone considering this location to understand that there may be no on-site staff available when you need immediate assistance. If something goes wrong on move-in day, you may find yourself unable to access your unit and unable to reach anyone who can help. That's not a risk I would take again. read more

The front gate locked with a chain OPEN 24/7 so ANYONE can come in. That, and you have your hunt for the one cart they have. It's always hot and dark in the buildings. Zero customer service to assist unless you count a kiosk. read more

I was so great full. Not only that he complemented my car, but we chit chatted over. He was so nice. I never had any trouble there and I have been storing my stuff there for almost 6 years! It is true that the staff is very nice and helpful, but the storage structures here are deplorable. Maybe it's only in building A, but I would highly recommend inspecting your unit during the day before move in and making sure the back of your unit doesn't back up to a space that floods easily. My unit was flooded badly this spring. But after going in to look at everything, I realized water had been coming in from a gap in the top of the unit as well as flooding in from the bottom. Also, the back partition is not sitting on a concrete slab, but on straight dirt and earth. My items had green and white mold that had been growing for months before the flooding had even occurred. And things that were sitting up off the floor had water stains at the top. So, none of my items had a chance to escape damage. I got in touch with the district manager but he seems to be largely evading my communications, as it's been weeks of phone and email tag. Public Storage makes it clear in their contract that they do not take responsibility for any damage done to your items except in the case of gross negligence, and I would argue that failing to provide a structure that's capable of doing its basic job of protecting your items is gross negligence. I think there are tenants who are getting their what they paid for, but those of us in building A are paying monthly for, effectively, the same level of storage as storing everything in your back yard, partially covered. I would suggest renting somewhere else. But if you must rent here, do NOT rent in building A. And do NOT skip out on the insurance. read more

I got a storage unit at this location after my entire apartment flooded. This was a very stressful time in my life. Emilio did everything he could to help out with my storage needs. He is very personable and takes a lot of pride in his job. He gives you all available options based on your needs and is extremely helpful. I cannot say enough good things about my experience with this Public Storage! First off, Anne was just fantastic! From the day I stopped by to see what they had to offer, she got me the best deal possible (I only had the unit for 21days) for the space I needed. I was in and out of there in less than 30mins, including walking to my actual unit, signing the contract, and payment. I loved this location because it was close to my apt, so my move in and move out was easy and it is not very big (some of the other storage places I checked out were labyrinths!) and is a one way in/out situation. I also really liked that the location was extremely secure! I actually forgot to lock my unit one time and the next day when I came back, nothing had happened. You also get your own personal entry code for the gate, which you enter when you go in and also when you leave. Though it isn't a 24-hr access facility, it is accessible until 9pm. I would highly recommend renting here as it was extremely easy and affordable and Anne gave just exceptional customer service from renting to vacating! read more

I can't believe terrible people and terrible business practices like this still exist in the world. BEWARE. Several UNETHICAL BUSINESS PRACTICES happened to me: - Rate increased 35% after a mere 5 months in a small unit, on auto-pay, and could not get Public Storage to budge on their own price hike. - So I reserved a cheaper unit online at a sister Public Storage location 5-mi away, pain to move units but I needed a good rate. -Told several times, multiple staff, that if I pre-pay for a full year my rate wouldn't go up in that year. - Shown two units at new place, agreed on the one that matched the size I reserved online. - I stand there at the desk, with a truck full of my stuff outside, and pay a big sum for the year on my CC. IMMEDIATELY upon my credit card swipe, the unethical scheme of PUBLIC STORAGE rears its ugly head: - Suddenly the unit/size I just was just shown 5 minutes ago was not the unit/size number on my paperwork (that I am now paid/locked into) oh no, she has to call a manager to back it out first. - Said Manager on speaker phone informs me that my year of pre-pay does NOT guarantee no-rate increase during that year despite what staff say. WHAT??? WHY DID I JUST PAY FOR A FULL YEAR THEN? - With no guarantees, not even a written guarantee I requested after the manager begs me to stay and move my stuff in, I got a PARTIAL REFUND a week later missing $25. They STOLE a $25 "processing fee". - They tricked me into thinking I was purchasing a certain unit, pre-paying for a year so my rate wouldn't go up, and the second they ran my credit card at the site, it turns out NONE OF THAT WAS TRUE, and then they STEAL $25 from that transaction!!! Not even a box was moved in and I wasted an hour of my day arguing with these shady people to return my money because it was all based on LIES. Moral of the story: Don't believe a WORD these people tell you. Take your business to smaller local storage where the owners are ethical, need your business and treat you like a VALUABLE CUSTOMER and not a fool with a wallet. Appalling the level of shadiness I encountered here, can't believe awful people and awful business practices like this still exist. read more

I booked an extra unit, never used it, asked for a refund because they charged me the whole month, was told by local staff that it would take a week and a half to have the charge removed from my bank account. It is 3 weeks and counting, no refund. I never used the unit. Never moved in. Online there is no real access to customer service. And you cannot trust what they tell you on the phone. read more

I had my stuff in storage for a few months here, and the office staff was a pleasure to work with. Always very straightforward, looking out for their customers and explaining policy clearly are all excellent bonuses I'm proud to vouch for this location. Sheesh this place sure does suck! Ann is the manager that runs this Public Storage location; she's extremely rude and discourteous. I realize that being in charge of a storage facility probably isn't the most glamorous of jobs, I get that; but Ann, you need to get it together woman. I called being nice and pleasant (why would you be any other way? Even though they want to auction off all of your shit!) and Ann was super crappy. How can you answer all of the questions I have when you won't keep your yap shut to listen to them? She kept talking over and interrupting me. I did not compare prices since I wasn't paying the cost of storage, so I don't know how they stack up in this area. STOP CALLING ME!!! I called to inquire about their storage, and made the mistake of giving them my phone number, "in case we got cut off." They now call me every day to ask if I'm still interested. Today was the fifth day in a row that I told them I am not interested, and that I want to be taken off their call list, but they keep calling. I don't know what else to do to, but I'm tired of it. I had a very pleasant experience this morning: my appointment was at 10am, but I got there early, and it was no problem. Anne showed me my reserved space, told me about all the paperwork and what I needed to know, and I was able to use my lock from a previous time I had rented from Public Storage. If there would be a "Recommend this location" check box, then it would have 5 checks in it.
