I rented a 10x10 unit in the 12915 Research Blvd location on 6-16-25.....received a text on 6-16 saying: "Thank you for your eRental! Your space will be ready on June 23rd. We will text your personal gate code on or before your rental date".....it's now 6-23 and I have not received any text with gate code nor does the online portal show a gate code for this unit.....I have folks coming to help me move stuff into the unit at 8:00 am this morning and don't know if I will be able to get in???? read more

Good location. Good service. Price nearly doubled after a year though. Clean facility with A/C'ed units. Only thing is that my mattress had these tiny bugs inside the mattress plastic bag. I had to call junk haulers to haul away my mattress to the junk yard. I mean it wasn't infested at all - but perhaps I should have used a 100% foolproof mattress bag with no ventilation mini holes. No other bug issues though. Just be extra careful with covering your stuff. read more

This place is very secure especially afterhours. I don't appreciate the fact that there is no afterhours service, for when you get locked out after 9 p.m. with an inside unit. The code doesn't work, yet your storage is wide open with carts of your stuff in the hallway. Called the number which appears to have options to assist. Entered all my information code for entry, my drivers license number and they don't connect you. Had to get up early this morning when the place opens at 6 a.m.. I left a message on the afterhours and didn't receive a call back. They could have atleast closed my unit for me and/or texted me or called me for some reassurance. Definitely will make sure to have a plan in place in the event this situation happens again. read more

I was a renter for about 3 years and even though the office staff changed throughout my time there, I remember the good ones who helped me the most and who were really friendly. The last last lady who is always nice and friendly when I go into the main part is Natalie. She's always friendly and has a smile on her face. I always felt my belongings were secure in the building and it's temperature controlled. There are at least 2 trolleys and the elevators are large and the place always seamed clean. Tip: make sure you go to the left when you enter the gate so you don't have to make a turn in the lot to put your code in to get back out of gate. read more

The climate controlled temperature was comfortable, which was really noticed since it is right now 95 degrees outside. I have not had a good experience with this storage facility. I have only rented with them for one month. First of all, It is very difficult to get a hold of anyone since it a self service location. As long as you don't need any assistance immediately you will be fine. You can expect a call back at least 48 hours later no matter the urgency. I scheduled my move out day for Tuesday August 8th. Came to my storage unit and my lock had been changed and I was unable to access my storage unit. Finally received a call back today (Thursday August 10th) and the property manager told me that they would put a request in to have someone break the lock for me.... I went ahead and borrowed bolt cutters and unlocked it myself and found a mess in my storage unit and looks like some items had been stolen. Super awesome!.... It seems like a safe storage facility with it being indoors and requiring multiple code required access points to get to my unit on the 2nd floor but yet my unit was still broken into. The unit next to mine also had the same lock on it so I'm assuming there unit was also broken into. Even when you finally get a hold of someone the staff is very unhelpful. So sad and very disappointing. read more

I can't believe terrible people and terrible business practices like this still exist in the world. BEWARE. Several UNETHICAL BUSINESS PRACTICES happened to me: - Rate increased 35% after a mere 5 months in a small unit, on auto-pay, and could not get Public Storage to budge on their own price hike. - So I reserved a cheaper unit online at a sister Public Storage location 5-mi away, pain to move units but I needed a good rate. -Told several times, multiple staff, that if I pre-pay for a full year my rate wouldn't go up in that year. - Shown two units at new place, agreed on the one that matched the size I reserved online. - I stand there at the desk, with a truck full of my stuff outside, and pay a big sum for the year on my CC. IMMEDIATELY upon my credit card swipe, the unethical scheme of PUBLIC STORAGE rears its ugly head: - Suddenly the unit/size I just was just shown 5 minutes ago was not the unit/size number on my paperwork (that I am now paid/locked into) oh no, she has to call a manager to back it out first. - Said Manager on speaker phone informs me that my year of pre-pay does NOT guarantee no-rate increase during that year despite what staff say. WHAT??? WHY DID I JUST PAY FOR A FULL YEAR THEN? - With no guarantees, not even a written guarantee I requested after the manager begs me to stay and move my stuff in, I got a PARTIAL REFUND a week later missing $25. They STOLE a $25 "processing fee". - They tricked me into thinking I was purchasing a certain unit, pre-paying for a year so my rate wouldn't go up, and the second they ran my credit card at the site, it turns out NONE OF THAT WAS TRUE, and then they STEAL $25 from that transaction!!! Not even a box was moved in and I wasted an hour of my day arguing with these shady people to return my money because it was all based on LIES. Moral of the story: Don't believe a WORD these people tell you. Take your business to smaller local storage where the owners are ethical, need your business and treat you like a VALUABLE CUSTOMER and not a fool with a wallet. Appalling the level of shadiness I encountered here, can't believe awful people and awful business practices like this still exist. read more

They will raise your rates whenever they want to. Also, they charge an exorbitant late fee of $20 which is almost the same cost as the rent and they will not remove a late fee unless you have been a customer for over a year. THEY ARE A RIP OFF!!! STAY FAR AWAY! read more

Even though posted hours are on the website, it is hit or miss if office will be staffed. I had to come twice to the office before finding someone there to rent me the unit I reserved online. There is lots of misdirection and bait/switch at rental. They "require" insurance for your goods at a minimum of $11.00 a month. Info that is hidden on the website. They don't tell you that before you arrive. In addition they try and upsell you everything they can from bubble wrap to Damp Rid, fighting off the bad sales pitch is annoying. They require a disc padlock, but forget to mention this before you arrive. Conveniently they just happen to have a padlocks there. They are no-name padlocks and they charge about $10 more than a Master Lock brand disc padlock would cost you. They will not rent the unit until the padlock is on the unit even if it is empty. So, you are stuck buying one on-site, or leaving and coming back to be put through all of the hassle again. All in all I am fine with what the requirements are. However they need to do a much better job of stating this upfront. Walking in thinking you're going to pay $24, but then being asked to pay almost $60 leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It tells me I'm dealing with dishonest people who were lying to me to get me in the door. I don't like doing business with that kind of entity. read more

I have been renting from this public storage location for over 6 years. I have had other units at other places but this one is the best, in my opinion. The staff is very friendly and cordial. Most of my interactions have been with Cheryl. She is always friendly and professional. On the occasions when I am busy and I have missed the beginning of the month payment, she will call to remind me of my monthly payment. I recently rented another unit and the rental process was quick --- from the time I called, visited with Cheryl and rented my unit, it took all of two days. I highly recommend this place. read more

Background: I mostly moved stuff into this place because I had a hiatus between apartments. I exploited their one month cheapy deal, but when comparing prices, you'll want to include the price before and after. When going multi-month this place might not end up as cheap, but for reasons detailed below it might be worth it: Pros: * Very good service from everyone I interacted with * Cheryl went over all the details and gave a detailed, calm breakdown on prices and procedure. She answered a lot of questions. Cons: * Security code was a bit annoying. Having to punch it in over and over again was tedious and ultimately not great security. See wishlist for what I wish they'd do, though the ability to execute on this at a single location seems difficult. Recommendations: * Come here early or late in the day to avoid a crowd that can show up on weekends. Much easier to move in or out when nobody else is around. * If you buy boxes here, go with the smaller ones. It's not because there's anything wrong with the bigger boxes, it's just easier to move. * If you have something you really want secured, I wouldn't trust just the default "bulldog"-style lock. It's fine for most but if you had something to secure, I'd use two different ones to resist standard attacks. Wishlist: * Ultimately I think the gate code is fake security and they should instead hook you up with a temporary, sealed RFID dongle that they cycle the password on. That might be a bit of overkill for domestic storage security. * When you buy the paper they sell for wrapping up dishes, they should sell you about half of that and recomend you pick up two. Steer clear of this place! I reserved a 10x20 climate controlled unit on the 1st floor on their website. The price was listed at $193/month. When I booked it, the reservation came through at $218/month. I talked to them over the phone & asked them to honor the $193 price & after checking with the district manager was told they could not without proof (impossible since their website none showed $218). I did some research on other local companies & found a climate controlled 10x20 unit on the first floor a couple of miles away for $153/month. I told them this & they said they still could not honor the $193/month price I originally booked. I told them to cancel my reservation & went with the other company. WAIT FOR IT - IT GETS BETTER! I went back to their website & the unit I just released is now listed at $187/month. This place is a freaking joke & they do not conduct business in an honest manner! read more

Time for an update. I ended up buying a house and did not have a use for a storage unit anymore. The move out process was super easy. All you need to do is go online to schedule a move out date, turn off auto pay, go clean out your storage unit, go to the front desk and verify your move out and that's it! You keep the lock you buy in the beginning and the unit is inspected by them. As long as you don't destroy the unit (not sure how you would do this anyway) you're good to go. It was a great experience overall and I highly recommend Public Storage. The staff is great, there were always carts available, everything is secure, and it was never too crowded. read more

After working with this group for a year with my parents' storage needs, I decided that this is the way to go for temporarily storing some large furniture items for a remodel. Cheryl is great. She is professional and goes out of her way to help people. She may not be available at the drop of a hat if people aren't organized enough to call ahead. She is the only one manning the desk for the most part, but that's okay since most renters already have all the information and tools that they need ahead of time. Plus, she immediately returns phone calls. What I thought would be typically a phone tag situation for securing a rental unit... turned out to be a process that took less than 6 hours from the time I made the initial phone call to seeing the unit, going through the required paperwork, going over the specifics of security, keys, codes and instructions that are specific to make the place secure and comfortable. And those 6 hours included on MY Part needing to secure the time with the moving company who weren't sure when they'd be able to move my furniture to the unit. The facility is clean, very well maintained, secure. I have never felt there was any shadiness in coming here during the night or on weekends. I am not a fan of the sales of items that i know are available but this is the business at hand. Just say No Thank you and be done with it. I never got a sense that Cheryl was pushing it onto me. Just offering the items that you may not know that they have available. Thank you for what could have been one more big stressor in this remodeling/downsizing process. read more

Used storage to pack some boxes ahead of my move and get them out of the way until after the move. This location was perfect and Cheryl in the office got me all set up. She was really nice, very thorough and made sure I understood everything pertaining to getting in and out after hours, etc. Had no trouble at all except for a small delay in the automatic lighting that was fixed before I closed out my unit. This is a great storage location, although I think the prices may be a little elevated. Cheryl is a pleasure to deal with, very nice and patient helping me first to get into a unit, then to transfer to a bigger unit. The place is very clean. It is a little annoying to have to repeatedly enter the access code everywhere, but I chalk that up to added security for my stuff and deal with it the few times a year I have to. Can't comment on the price or any upsells as commented on in some of the earlier comments, since I had the unit for way too long. I agree the insurance is excessive and a hidden adder. Let me say that I would give this facility a 5-star if it was just about Cheryl who runs it. She is great. She's helpful, knowledgable, friendly, efficient, everything. It astounds me to drive up on occasion and see her cleaning windows too, or cleaning the hallways, or changing light bulbs. I hope Public Storage pays her a lot of money and gives her good benefits because if they don't they are super greedy. Also, the storage spaces themselves are really good well-maintained, temperature-controlled spaces. And their accessibility/elevators/etc make things really easy. This particular facility is laid out well. So why didn't I give it 5 stars? Because of the Public Storage corporate structure and operation itself. And I hope someone at the top reads this. My family has had storage spaces in this facility for the last couple of decades. No telling how much my family (and a few friends) have paid Public Storage over these years. My complaint is that they know they have you over a barrel and they get in you there, and then they start raising rates like crazy. And they don't give you any notice. And the rent just starts jumping up. Next thing you know you're paying a lot more than when you first rented. And there's nothing you can do about it. Also -- never a discount for someone who has been using the facility for YEARS and paying good money (too much money). I currently have THREE spaces in this facility. Every time I open another one I ask -- "Don't I get that first month for $1, like you have advertised?" And I'm always told (sheepishly by Cheryl, who doesn't make the rules, she only has to enforce them) "No, that's only for new customers." (Right, the ones you suck in and then start gouging with rate raises.) The corporate bigwigs of Public Storage know that most people won't move out even when they jack up the rates so ridiculously. It costs most people too much money to move again, and it's too much of a hassle. So it's a racket. Corporate greed. I'm sure there are a lot of top level guys at Public Storage who are mega rich and could care less about unfair practices toward their customers. Just pocketing millions on the little guy. Would be nice if just one of those guys would have a miraculous compassionate epiphany one day and actually share some of the good with the very customers who have made them wealthy. Okay, now that I've ranted I'll end on a good note again. This particular facility is the best in Austin that I've found. MUCH better, cleaner, friendlier than the one on I-35/Oltorf (and others).
