Made a reservation for our party of 7. We were hungry so we arrived early and our table was ready. Glad we made a reservation bc it was busy and lots of people were turned away at the door. Got the baked Brie appetizer. They also serve you bread with olive oil and balsamic. My friend and I got the Cajun fish. Another friend got the lamb chops and our other friend got the shrimp curry. All the proteins were cooked perfectly! The veggies didn't have much flavor but they were cooked ok. My friends then got two different cheesecakes for dessert. Great little restaurant! Stopped in Rossland on our way back home to Edmonton from Vancouver. Decided on Idgie's cuz they had fish on the menu (had been eating red meat last couple of days). Colleen was our server and she was amazing! Made us her specialty drink: margaritas. Highly recommend them! On the rocks! You get free bread with oil & balsamic vinegar. It was yummy! For dinner we shared the French onion soup and it was so flavourful. The broth was perhaps a bit thick (I like more broth than onions) but it tasted awesome, highly recommend. For our entrees, we had the blackened cod and the snapper. Each dish came with 2 pieces so beware the dishes were big. Could almost share one and then each have an appie. Fish was cooked perfectly; the only opportunity is the cod could have been charred a bit more = blackened. If we're ever back in Rossland, we'll be coming back to Idgie's if only to have those margaritas!! read more

The waitstaff were friendly and efficient, but in our opinion the menu did not have a lot to offer. My husband and I each had a cocktail, basic, nothing memorable. I ordered the tuna and was put off by the fishy smell. My husband had the snapper and seemed to enjoy his meal. All in all, an adequate spot to dine. But, what really set the tone for me was initially when we asked about the specials. The waitress commented that there weren't any but the chef asked her to mention the mussels (a menu item) as 'special'. I assumed this meant the mussels were ready to be tossed and the chef was trying to move them before they spoiled. Don't sleep on Idgie's! This cozy little restaurant punches well above its weight, turning out some fantastic dishes from the small kitchen. We ordered the french onion soup, a perfect apres ski starter, and then moved on to the seared duck breast and rack of lamb. Both excellent! We've been coming to Rossland for more than a decade and Idgie's is always a spot for a nice dinner out. Unfortunately, our recent experience left us disappointed. We found the service a bit slow (restaurant was less than half full at the time), and the food was unremarkable. Our separate meals came with the same sides (think vegetable tray nuked on high for 20 seconds - taking "al dente" to a whole new level. My duck was grizzly, and the sole lacked flavor. We have a place at Red and have be going to Idgie's for over 10 years with our girls. Their food is fresh, consistently delicious, wonderful drinks, and friendly staff. They have their staple menu items like curries, pasta, chicken, and fish dishes but then a menu board of specials that might have lamb, steak, more seafood etc. All are served with a bountiful variety of fresh, perfectly cooked and seasoned vegetables which Is my favorite thing! Delicious, fresh, imaginative. From a humble cozy setting comes great food! Tonight's specials included mango-Brie stuffed chicken, whose flavors worked surprisingly well. Where normally vegetables are an afterthought - these were abundant and flavorful. Broccoli, beets, carrots, red potatoes, snap peas, and beans. Then hiding under it all was a squash purée that really brought the flavors together. Tira misu was nicely presented. Service was personable and friendly. Idgie's did not disappoint. Menu is simple. Seems more like gastro pub, new American food that is cropping up a lot in the u.s. before you decide on what you want to eat, however, make sure to peruse the extensive specials. I was torn between three types of fish salmon, halibut and the mahi mahi special. I went with the halibut which was cooked to perfection and had nice veggies and rice accompaniments. The salad of mixed greens, goat cheese was also super yum. Including a delicious cheese cake concoction for my birthday "cake" pricing came to $50 ish a head including plenty of booze and generous ordering all around. Definitely worth a return trip for a casual night out on the town or a more upscale outing. read more

What a great find in Rossland! Went there for dinner and it was wonderful. I had the trout (and they were very accommodating with switching a sauce) and my husband had a steak special. Been there for a business trip. All local teammates recommended this place. Didn't disappoint! We started with baked escargot then I had "Grilled salmon with sautéed prawns & pineapple salsa" and my friend had "Roasted rack of lamb". We were rushed by the servers to order many times and were told when we asked for bread for our children - it would only be brought as an incentive to order - is it too much to ask for 10 minutes to enjoys a glass of wine? It was Christmas Eve after all and we were hoping to have a relaxing night Clearly the restaurant staff wanted to have an evening off as well because our food was slapped down on the table. my husbands rack of lamb was extremely rare and the skin on my "roasted" chicken was still transparently white. Completely inedible and disgusting. We had hoped to have a lovely family dinner and received poorly prepared and undercooked food served by indifferent staff more concerned about their evening plans then those of the paying patrons. read more

There don't seem to be a lot of great restaurant options in Rossland, however this one had good reviews so I gave it a shot. It was actually pretty good, and the service was great. It has a small-town homey feel to it, and I think it is Italian because there were tons of pasta options available. My steak was pretty good (1/2" thick, 8oz, med-rare), and the veggies were great (very buttery, lots of variety). Overall it didn't wow me as a meal but perhaps that relates to my taste in steak. I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it to others (however I don't know any other Rossland restaurants, so it may very well be the best there is). If I return to Rossland, I would likely go give it another try. read more

The food and service are soo good we came back for dinner three times. we were a group of 8, in town for the Singletrack6 mountain bike event. The fish tacos and the salads on the appetizers were amazing. they have their special Idgie's Pasts dish served with either chicken, prawns or salmon. full of tastes. You can blame us for not trying other restaurants in town. there are only a handful and we tried them all. when it's time for dinner in Rossland Idgie's is the place to be having it!! I was on a trip with a Nordic Ski Club and we made reservations for 12 at Idgie's for a Wednesday evening in February, 2016. The outside of their building isn't anything exciting but the inside is beautiful and woodsy, wonderful atmosphere. We ordered drinks and service was fast, staff was VERY friendly. Dinner was amazing...I had salmon, mashed potatoes and fresh veggies, excellent, tasty and healthy. It came with bread with a plate of olive oil and balsalmic vinegar. I had a Margarita. It had too much ice so I asked for one with little ice and they gladly gave me another Margarita. We shared a Lava Cake for dessert. I highly recommend Idgie's for dinner. They also serve pizza. We planned to go to the steam shovel but saw this restaurant across the street and walked in. The reception was very warm. It was quite drafts near the door. But they provided us with our own heater. The onion soup was super hot and very rich. The spinach salad was a heavenly blend of sweet and savory. The mahi-mahi was perfectly cooked on a spicy sweet bed of mango coconut chutney ,a very complementary gustatory sensation. To finish a banana cream Brulé and triple berry cheesecake capped off a perfect evening. Overall a quality experience with ample quantity and good value in a friendly setting. We had a large group for dinner (10 people). The food when it finally arrived was marginal - some entrees were overcooked, some looked and tasted like they had spent an hour under a heat lamp.
