Still, the good vibes seem to inflate the heads of young wait staff, who seem to this old miser a bit aloof in attitude and needing a dose of hustle. You can be friendly and move fast at the same time people. We waited 10 minutes for a greet, 5 for water, another 15 for our order, then a full 25 for the actual food. Whoof. We decided on sharing an Appy and having some cocktails, nothing on the dinner menu really called out to me except the mussels (hence the 4 star). That being said, the mussels and the cocktails were delicious!! The presentation of the cocktails was top notch, seeing my husband's cocktail made me want to order one of their menu drinks because I just loved how his looked and wanted to see if the presentation was carried on through the cocktail menu, I was not disappointed. Service was very friendly, I feel like we were a pretty low maintenance table, the choice between still and sparkling water was a nice touch. Shut. Up. Everything is delicious. The drinks, the appetizers, the meals, it's amazing. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and on the ball. The poutine (we were taught "p'tine" is the correct pronunciation) was INSANE! Finally a poutine with chicken gravy and not beef. It was incredible. I added sautéed mushrooms - I'm not sure it could've been any better. My friend had breakfast poutine and finished every bite. We knew this was a small place from other reviews. Due to that and the restaurant's website, we were sure to make a reservation. On the website, they emphasize that you not show up early due to limited space, so we walked around town until it was time. When we arrived, he asked if we had a reservation. We said yes and he then greeted us by name. Apparently we were the only reservation. There were plenty of open tables. Only two other parties were seated. We selected the pickled and fermented vegetables to share. The baby radishes were good, but the asparagus and (was it fennel or an onion?) veg that dominated the plate were so tough and fibrous that they were basically inedible. The kim chi was so salty and immature. It was harsh. The gnats flying around our table may have been unavoidable for them but it was annoying. We both ordered the coho salmon salad and were so disappointed. The salmon was way over-cooked, nearly burnt. The salad was basically long spring mix leaves with stems still attached and extra long julienned carrots and long thin peppers. It seemed like no one took time to put any effort into the salad. It was difficult to eat and had way too many stems. My dining partner suggested that it looked like someone merely grabbed a handful of spring mix from a Costco tub and lost track of the salmon being cooked. I don't usually write restaurant reviews but the pitchfork service is less than ideal. My family and I went there for poutine month only to be met with disappointment as they weren't participating in the event. Made even worse because the poutines we did order we paid an arm and a leg for a Childs portion with such a minimal level of sauce it felt like I was paying gourmet prices for a tiny serving of what might as well be a platter of fries with some lukewarm cheese curds. Now you may think it can't get any worse. But the waitress who served us looked like she would rather be anywhere besides serving food. She didn't ask us for drink orders, didn't take all of our food orders and was missing one dish when the food came so one of us just sat and watched everyone else stomach mediocre poutine. Overall I used to enjoy them but after that service I don't think they'll be seeing me again. read more

The patio attracted me to the restaurant when we were looking for a late family dinner. I will say that this is a great place for cool people to go on a splurge-y date. I love the historic building and the cozy patio with awesome view. I never went inside. We asked if they had a kids menu and were told they have a kid's item: little burger. This item was not listed on the menu. It was typical kid's menu item size, but turned out to be $20 in price. I didn't love that. The wine was good, but not astounding. The food also. I was pretty excited about ordering the sea bass to share, but sadly, I was hungry after the meal. It was tasty, but I would have liked it to be deboned. The fish came with broccoli (2 pieces), roasted cherry tomato (3 - 4 tomatoes), wild rice (decent portion), nori butter (loved it on the fish) , fresh herbs (whole stems - wasn't sure what to do with them), and lemon. I am a vegetable lover and would loved to have had more veg on the plate - a great opportunity for this restaurant to feature local produce in summer! Lava cake was good with exciting marshmallow top and amazing almond crumb (like brittle). Green tea crème brulée was okay, but I prefer traditional. Tasty shortbread with excellent texture. A few suggestions for the restaurant: no more folded laminated QR codes on the table - a nice restaurant has printed menus. They had a food menu available, but not the wine list. Full disclosure: an iPad was offered to remedy this, but it felt troublesome. So the price of the wine was a little surprising. As well, it would be nice to have the menu posted at the doors. People like to peruse before deciding to come in. Not a great choice for tired family looking for a late supper. read more

The service started out fine but after our appetizers, we waited around 30 minutes for our entrees! We were hoping to have dinner and go to a spot nearby to close out my birthday with some cocktails and because of this absurdly long wait, the lounge closed. My fiancé went out of his way to plan this and he was so defeated. There was zero communication from our server until we ran out of discussion topics and finished our second round of drinks. We started arm wrestling to take up the time. The servers were closing the restaurant down around us but couldn't pop over and apologize or say anything about the wait?? We finally got the food and when I took a bite of the chicken, I found that what I thought was a bone was actually a completely charred piece of chicken. I flipped the chicken over and the entire under side of the chicken was completely burnt solid. Come on. At this point we just wanted to get out of here. We asked for our check and again we had to wait for about 10 minutes to get our check. Again my fiancé had to go hunt down our server and ask for our check. $350! No gesture of an apology, no compensation, no acknowledgement of the experience, just a "do you guys have plans for the rest of the night?".
