I gave it four stars just for the rolls. They were great! We ordered the wrong things. I got salmon and my husband got hot roast. They weren't very good. I invited three friends to dinner last Thursday night. When we got there one of my friends mentioned how dim the lighting was so it was even hard to see the menus. We had met because one of the friends had a severe loss in her life, and we wanted to give support to her. The place seemed full of patrons and in fairly good time a waitress took our orders. Two of my friends ordered salads, While I and the other friend ordered a meal. The salads seemed to come in fairly reasonable time. We told them to go ahead and eat...that our food would come soon, which it didn't and finally the two with salads stopped eating because they were worried they'd be done before we even got our food. At some point the waitress came back and said that we had ordered au gratin potatoes, and that they were all gone and could we make another choice? By that time we didn't care what they brought just bring us some thing!, but we replaced it with mashed potatoes. If I'm not mistaken, it was over an hour to wait for our meals. To make things worse, I believe it was the owner came up to our table. Well, my friend is crying and telling us her story, he interrupted and said he wanted to play a game about Utah trivia. He was totally clueless to the fact that she was crying and one of my friends looked at me and said I think we're at the wrong place, to which I replied, yes. I leaned over to the friend that was crying and told her to just ignore this man and go on, meanwhile, he engaged the other tables in this game of his, which made it hard for us to even talk above the noise! Who did he think he was to take our meal as patrons of his and make it uncomfortable to say the least. Go as quickly as possible. Everything fresh, home-made, from scratch! It's still a 1920s cafe! Excellent service. Fresh squeezed lemonade. Dinner rolls just out of the oven. Obviously scratch, great little crisp on top crust. Pile them with soft butter and peach jam. Pot roast better than I remember as a kid; piled high. To finish, berry pie topped with a mound of real whipped cream. For down home American traditional, it can't and doesn't get any better! Inexpensive, too! read more

The second oldest restaurant in utah . I came here several times in the past for the "liver with bacon and onion . It has been consistently good and it deserves a whooping 5 star rating. We brought my mom here for her birthday, as for her request. The location is right on main with parking on the street in front of the restaurant. We were immediately seated and ordered our drinks soon after. They brought out as many rolls as we wanted while we waited for our food. The rolls are really good, try them with the honey. We stopped after two each so we had enough room for dinner. Drinks always were filled before they were empty. I ordered the turkey club and it was good. My wife, mom, dad, and kids all liked there dishes as well. You can get a small cone for free in the cafe as well. Overall a good dining experience. read more

My son and i went in and we were excited about the history of the building and the apparent popularity of the restaurant. I wish our experience had been better. It took 15 min to take our order and then another 45 to get our food. When the food did come out, mine was burnt and both our meals were cold. The waitstaff is clearly inexperienced. This is a charming place. I have eaten there before, but it was long ago. I had the salmon salad and it was excellent! It came with a home made roll which was melt-in-your mouth delicious. I only give it four stars because the service was truly abysmal! The worst I've had in a good long while, and I eat out quite a bit. I was seated quickly and given a menu, and then the wait began. I waited at least 15 minutes before someone came to take my order. I placed my order and asked for water to drink, then waited and waited and waited. I don't mind waiting for excellent food, but it was a warm day and I wanted water. I finally had to get up and ask someone to bring me water. I was pleased with the food when it came. It was presented well and was sooo good. But I had to ask for silverware and a napkin. From the beginning of my meal to the end, not once did the server come back to ask if everything was OK or if I needed anything else. When I finished, I waited for my check...and waited and waited and waited. I finally walked up to the register where a person other than my server helped me. I really get irked when I have to wait TO GIVE THEM MONEY! Just so you know, I went on a Monday at about 1:30. They were only moderately busy...not in the middle of a lunch rush. And the ladies room was icky. Cracks in three of the corners from floor to ceiling, something had been removed from the wall (paper hand towels? a TP holder?) and there were still screws, the area had not been repaired nor painted. I always look for a taste of the towns I travel to with work. Work brought me to Brigham City and I found Idle Isle Cafe. I'm a fan of old architecture and design. Idle Isle has phenomenal detail like dental and crown moulding; tin ceiling, old grandfather clock, old soda fountains, etc... The booths were large old wooden booths that wrapped around the guets. The architecture alone is worth the visit... Had a great hamburger steak with tons of mushrooms, onions, and gravy. Just like I like it! For those who have quite the sweet tooth, this is the place for you! This place was like chocolate heaven when I walked in. I was in town visiting last weekend and I've had their chocolates before that were sent from family members, however, this was my first time stepping foot inside. The woman running the cafe was very friendly, helpful, and let me try a few samples. Oh so tasty! From chocolate covered toffee balls, to coconuts, and caramel covered in tasty chocolate, this place has it all! They even have cakes, fudge, and all sorts of yummy desserts. Their rolls and apricot jam are amazing and I like that they have complimentary ice cream cones at the counter to end your meal. French fries were delightfully crispy. We were starting last summer's road trip and weren't necessarily hungry, but we had read about the Idle Berry Pie and had to stop. We had no idea what to expect but were pleased to find this quaint little cafe with a couple of tables on the sidewalk. It was a beautiful day, so we ordered our pie and took it outside. This pie was delicious! Definitely worth going out of your way for! And if you are really hungry, you can get the Idle Berry Pie Shake - they toss an entire piece of pie into the shake! Or so our server told us. No way would we have had room for that much. read more

This place was a great find! There were 18 of us, including 8 little kids. The staff was great to accommodate all of us on one big table. They had great options for the kids, and they brought theirs out quickly on cute kid trays! A lot of us got the country fried chicken And steak, and said it was really good! I got pot roast, which was so yummy, though I would have preferred a brown gravy. The salad bar wasn't anything special, but I liked being able to build my own salad with what I wanted rather than just a premade one. My son got the cod and fries and ate all of it!! Based on a recommendation from our within walking hotel we were told of Idle Isle Café's wondrous bread rolls and very popular jam. After arriving we lavished at the old time scenery and the ice cream bar (free samples!). The menu was short and the food fairly simple and the popular jam we were told of, nonexistent. My wife ordered a salmon and I ordered fettuccine Alfredo just in time for as while we were waiting for our food - a server came out and loudly proclaimed "no more fettuccine Alfredo!" Sorry!!! Once delivered the food was tasty. One item not on the menu that we enjoyed was that the two servers we talked to knew and delivered the history of this establishment which was built long ago. We will have to go back, someday, just to try this miraculous jam we heard so much of. NOTE: like so many things in Utah don't plan to visit on Sunday or Monday. We were in town twice on our vacation - first on a Tuesday and second on a Monday. Sadly it was closed on Monday. read more

Been going here for years, but I don't think much longer. Today I noticed how the plates are small and the prices too high. I was happily anticipating the special, Corned Beef and Cabbage. The meat was good, but was served with one small red potato, and a slice of cabbage that was rubbery and tough--felt like it had been rinsed in hot water, not cooked. Truly, at 4:00 pm, our two small meals were about $30.00. Charging that much, they ought to put something back into the decor--dirty, peeling wallpaper and dirty carpets. read more

This is an old restaurant that is a very solid part of Brigham City. The service is ok and the food is ok as well. I liked the restaurant better when the candyshop was also a part of the restaurant. That is what was so great about going there was being able to choose your fabulous candy at the end of your meal. Since it is now across the street I would say skip the food and go straight to the candy shop across the street. That part of the company I would give 5 stars! read more
