The ribeye was really good! The chicken fried steak wasn't our favorite. It wasn't as crispy or breaded as we're used to, so it wasn't quite what we were expecting. We probably wouldn't order it again. Overall, we'd definitely come back especially for that ribeye. Next time, we'll just make sure both plates have a little more moo and a little less mystery. read more

The famous Maddox in Utah! I've been here throughout my childhood and we came back while visiting family. It's such a classic place that has such good food. We got the root beer and cream soda to drink. They don't deserve alcohol The rolls are homemade and the raspberry butter is incredible. I almost asked to get some to-go LOL I got the halibut after many people recommended it. I loved it! My husband got the New York steak and felt underwhelmed by it because the signs behind the business say "world's best beef" so he's thinking it will live up to that. He's tasted some really of steak in California and was expecting this place would have better but they didn't. The house salad with ranch was delicious as well. This place always has a homey feel with all the interior wood. They decorate based on the holidays too. I wish I would have snagged the treats in the way out because those looked tasty! read more

Server at this large, local, rustic restaurant was kind and described the different cuts of beef for us as this was our first visit to this local steakhouse. Husband and I shared the porterhouse steak, mashed potatoes, and roasted veggies. Husband had the clam chowder (not pictured). Incredible!!! The rolls they start you off with are insane - I could eat those with their raspberry honey butter all day. Serving sizes are also incredibly generous. I got a veggie cheddar soup to start and it was delicious. But my favorite had to be the shrimp turkey steak I ordered! Why 4 stars? Because I suppose you could do much worse for the price. --- --- --- I was told by my friend who lives in the area that Maddox is allegedly one of the best steakhouses in Utah. I wasn't even hungry after we'd eaten a ton throughout the day, but when I saw that the number one highlight was prime rib, I was physically and mentally committed. Was it an amazing prime rib? It was not. Was it bad? It was not. But what it was, was very fairly priced. My bill was in the low 30's, which is unheard of at most steakhouses. But I would compare the vibe here to be more like a Longhorn or a Texas Roadhouse than a fancy, date-night type of venue. There were a lot of little touches that we just a bit different than I anticipated: the salad tasted like it had been pre-prepped hours ago and was just sitting in a fridge under saran wrap. The veggies that came with my steak were even worse. They looked and tasted like they went from a can, to a microwave, to my plate. The loaded baked potato had the bare minimum amount of effort poured into it. And the steak knife was only slightly stronger than a plastic knife. And while it wasn't my food, my friend asked for his steak to be cooked medium rare, but it was definitely medium well. But, my prime rib, especially smothered in the horse radish sauce, was definitely not bad. And the rolls/cornbread with the butter is something I could have eaten all night, despite not having a huge appetite when I arrived. A somewhat well known steakhouse, but instead of going there for dates and business dinners, it's for families who aren't trying to break the bank. Neat concept. read more

It can be busy, so I would recommend a reservation. Any wait is worth it. Don't miss out on the rolls and cornbread. Fun fact: they used to have someone playing an organ in the lobby back in the 70s. Pretty bad experience. My Niece wanted to go to Maddox for her birthday dinner. I ordered a Medium Rare Prime Rib, Baked Potato, Seafood Salad. The meal was delivered with an Ear of Corn. First off, after putting butter on the Ear of Corn, I noticed it wasn't melting, and the same results with the Baked Potato. The (Medium Rare) Prime Rib came in a dish soaking in, what looked like, watery Brown Gravy. Cutting into the meat was 'tough'. The centers of the meat was 'brown', not pink/red. I took a couple of bites of the Ear of Corn and Baked Potato, and that was enough. Un-melted butter on both, and both were barely warm. The Prime Rib was just barely warm, and was tough to chew.. I quickly lost my appetite. I told the Waiter just to take it away, commenting to him about the 'still' un-melted butter on the Corn, the apparent meat being closer to Medium Well than to Medium Rare. He offered to bring another Corn and Prime Rib, but told him no, that I had lost my appetite. My niece then offered her Steak to me, because she had ordered it Medium Well, but it came with a strong pink/red center. I told her no thanks. She quit eating and took her steak home to cook it more. Paid full price for 'my' meal, around $40. Not going back to Maddox anytime in the future.​ read more

Had a terrific outing here on a road trip. I got the 75th anniversary special, which comes with the famous fried chicken, soup, and pie. The two pies were exceptional. The coconut and chocolate, the chocolate was the best. The famous fried chicken is OK. I love the mashed potatoes. I didn't think it was that famous. The soup was really tasty and a great way to start the meal. It cost $18 on the menu, my total came out to about $29. Baylee was our server. She really took care of us and accommodated every need. Maddox has the lovely feeling of "family tradition." The drive there--especially in the summer or fall--is part of the charm. You pass through Utah's fruit country and can stop at local stands to buy fresh cherries, peaches, or corn from the farmers themselves. The team is always great to you and service is quick and on point. The food is fine--it's not a place I go for culinary fireworks--but it's consistent, and there's something nostalgic about it. The turkey steak is surprisingly good and unlike anything I've had elsewhere. My grandpa has ordered the Rainbow Trout for decades and still swears by it. It's more about the experience than the menu. The setting, the staff, the history--it all adds up to something special. Restaurant seems a bit out of touch with the times. Overcooked husbands steak and undercooked mine. Both were filets and ordered medium temp. Found it odd they don't offer any sides you can actually pick. Husband is allergic to carrots and when we asked what the sides options were we were told,"baked, mashed, or fried." That was the entire answer. So we took that to mean only potatoes just in different forms. So we were surprised when they brought a plate with steamed carrots and broccoli along with the potatoes of different forms. No appetizers or any options other than meat with your potato. Which don't get me wrong, we like meat and potatoes, but sometimes it's nice to have a selection when you're paying a hefty price for a dinner. No alcohol is served at this restaurant of any kind either. Seems very outdated and not very well managed. read more

This was our first visit and it was well worth it. Amazing food and an amazing staff. We were worried when we saw how full the parking lot was, especially with it being Saturday even before Mother's Day. But we only had to wait 5 minutes for a seat. The prime rib was cooked perfectly and my wife had the fillet minion which was delicious. Our waitress was very nice along with the rest of the serving staff. Highly recommended. read more
