I've been coming here for a couple years and my Stylist Norman is the nicest guy ever. I usually come to dye my hair roots, depending how long it is, it costs about $50-$60 dollars. The hair washers/assistants that I love are Ivy and Yan. Both really nice and hardworking and the massage and scratching is out of this world. I went here for a haircut before and loved it so I decided to give it a try with the coloring today!! 100% recommend!! He was so amazing!! I love my hair so much!! I called to get grey "highlights" but he knew that I actually wanted the grey balayage. We discussed and went through all the pictures that I brought and he told me that we can keep my base brownish Orange coloring that I already have then just balayage on top. That way we can avoid bleaching the whole head because then I would lose all your hair. I insisted on the grey and he warned me about the fact that some hair might come out. He took a long long time and carefully balayage-d every layer of my long thick hair. Then we put it under the heat and then him and his assistant reapplied some more bleach and used a hair dryer to heat and lighten all the pieces that weren't light enough yet. I really appreciate this because some places will just keep slapping bleach on until it's the color they want. After the toner, he even went back with a dark grey dye to try to fill in some of the transition zones between the balayage and my base brown hair dye from before that has kind of become orange now. Just so that the transition looks smoother and that this color can last longer. When he cut my hair, I usually get some layers cut but some of my ends were already breaking from the bleach which I expected so he didn't layer as much because he said that some of it would come out already. I like that he adjusted his haircut to what he was expecting to happen to my hair. Definitely ask for Allan!! Unfortunately, he doesn't speak English but just bring an Asian friend. I came here yesterday for a much needed haircut. My hairstylist was Nicole and she had cut my hair before as well. BTW, I made an appointment with her earlier in the week. She did a nice job with my haircut yesterday and it was $35 for wash, cut, and blowout (without tips yet). The hair salon also a good job with COVID precautions. They take your temperature, your name, and phone number prior to entering. There's plastic curtain partitions for each station and at the hair wash station. They disinfected the chairs after each client. All the staff and customers wore face masks. The hair salon did feel stuffy in my opinion tho and the hair salon was quite busy even at 10am on a Saturday. read more

Worst haircut I ever got. My "layered" cut is uneven and when I tie my hair in a ponytail it looks like a kindergartner took a pair of scissors and gave me a haircut. Unprofessional. The hair wash left my hair in dandruff this is the first time this has ever happened in all my visits to hair salons. It was $40 for cut, wash and dry. Please spend your money elsewhere. I wanted my hair style to be at least professional looking for work but not this choppy cut that I received from this salon. Because of the pandemic , I did not visit the salon for 9 months, finally decided to get a nice hair do. The store is clean and well sanitized with plastic shields separating each seat, every body is wearing masks, give a half face shield to cover the eyes while working on me. They did everything they can do to protect the customer and the employees. That gives me a piece of mind. If we all follow the protocols, we can definitely overcome the virus and get back to normal life. Special thanks to my hairdresser June and Ivy, they both did a fantastic job. read more

I give a 5 star to my hairdresser Alan. I have been going there for more than 7 years. I would say Alan is the best. The price was $35 and reasonable for me. He does take his time and he did a very good job. He makes sure that the length is right for me. I think he knew most of girls don't want their hair to be too short. We came all the way from Manhattan to see this guy Norman who had been recommended for how great that this barber is, however he was kind a disappointing... I am my wife's stylist, I only tried to be professional approach to Norman for some tips as how my lady's hair would prefer looked like, the first time I was totally ignored, however on the seconded visit he simply jumped on me by saying who'd f you think you are, why don't you give it a try yourself...? so such and such...in the end he said we are not welcomed! I've been coming to this place pretty much my entire life (although this is their new location). Norman and Allan have pretty much seen me grow up...there is nowhere else I would rather go to do my hair. Even though I no longer live in the area, every time I go home, I always get my hair done hair. They also have free wifi and lots of TV channels in their new locations, so while waiting for someone or getting your hair done, you can entertain yourself. Even though their new location is a little out of the way, it is a super nice place (much nicer than their old location) and totally worth it! read more

They were previously at located on Roosevelt ave. Norman has been doing my hair probably for 7 years now and every time it's the Japanese hair straightening treatment. He pays attention to your hair and he does a good job. I've had bad experiences before where people did not know how to do the treatment and my hair ended up falling off and another there were other places that my hair looked liked it was cut by a third grader. I absolutely love this place! A friend of mine had me travel from a far to try this place out. I got a Japanese treatment a while ago. At first, I was very skeptical because I was afraid that if it didn't turn out well, that I would lose the nice curls I have. But I went for it knowing that I can still grow my hair out. The process took about 4 hours. At the end, my hair was air dried. I was in shock how straight, smooth and long it was. I walked out very satisfied. Mind, it was also raining, therefore my hair got wet and even than, it dried out nice. The treatment lasted until my hair grew out. As my hair grew out, id blow dry the roots to straighten it. I could have gone back for a touch up but it was too far and I found myself busy all the time. Anyway, what I am trying to get to is that, as your hair grows out, you'll always find a solution for the new growth. Ever since this treatment with Idol Salon, I have not been able to find another salon with the same kind of experience. And the pricing was very reasonable. I will definitely be going back. Alan always does a fantastic job! Prices are not flushing cheap but very reasonable especially for the amount of work and time they spend on your hair. I love this salon, its always my go-to salon if I'm just getting a regular haircut. But I'd usually go to another salon for changes to my hair, not because their service is bad but because usually there is some miscommunication, especially among Jenny. She answered my questions about a possible color change and rather than try to sell me something she actually said I didn't need a new color. The massage during hair washing is also a plus. I'm a person who seldom makes comment, but I have to say something this time. The experience with idol hair salon was my nightmare. I made an appointment with Norman for hair perming a week ago. On Oct. 18 (Saturday), I drove a long way with my family for an evening celebration event. I arrived at the salon at 1:30 pm while Norman was busy with others. So his assistant helped the procedure. In fact, Norman was unavailable until 4 pm, but after 10 minutes working he asked me to wait for another half an hour because he would serve another customer when my hair was halfly finished. I waited in worry for 15 minutes and asked Norman when he'll be available since my family is waiting for me. He suddenly lost his temper and yelled "everyone needs to wait""I have a customer from Miami" "Another guy is already waiting for a whole day." I was so shocked at his rude attitude and mentioned I had an appointment. He replied he cannot only serve me for the whole day and he always serves people at the same time in twenty years. Then he became impatient and asked his assistant to work on me. But I insisted that since I made an appointment he should pay responsible for important parts. He shouted at me again "you're the only person I've ever met who cannot cooperate with my assistants." I almost burst into tears but I was unable to leave with a number of colorful pins in my hair. When Norman returned working on my hair, my most miserable experience started. He kept on complaining "you're a selfish person""You cannot even wait for others" "This is the last deal I want to do with you" I did my best to calm down and he finally controlled himself, but refused to listen to my needs and answer my questions. I don't want to make comments on his haircut skills because he REALLY considered it as his last deal with me. The whole thing is I'm paying for someone hurting me. I didn't know how I survived at about 6 pm. You cannot believe I still paid more than 200 dollars because I still respect Norman's time and others' work. However, he totally has no concept of appointment, and is lack of basis respect to customers. It's a pity that I may never hear Norman's apologize because I'll never go to this salon again and never never would like to meet with this guy once more in my life time. read more

My whole family has been going to Norman for the last 20 years. (Since they started in Flushing). We will never go any where else because they are that good.
