The Island Pier - Stunning sunset

    The Island Pier

    (64 reviews)

We saw the pier while on the beach and decided to go the next day. It's $2 to walk and $8 to fish,…read moreand we really should've realized while in line that it was primarily a fishing spot. People walked by with all their catches and everything. We each paid the $2 to walk anyway, and the entire pier is lined with people fishing! We did go during Memorial Day weekend, so I understand this is a busier time, but wow. It made for a smelly walk. Only the area near the shore had space for taking photos, so we were off the pier in like 10 minutes. Going for the sunset seemed great until actually being there, but we did learn from the signs on the pier that they would have a firework show, which we came back for. The firework show was about 5-ish minutes long, but it was great! They go all out at the end, so there's a lot of fireworks going off.

I highly recommend taking a walk. The salty air is super refreshing, and the wind makes it a very pleasant experience. Also, the scenic views are amazing. I have been to the pier several times, and I really enjoyed seeing the different wild life. I have seen jellyfish, herons and even sea turtles. I have never fished there, but I have seen people catch fish. I also have heard the best seasons to catch fish are spring and summer.

Destin Inshore Fishing Company - Angler holding a red snapper fish on the charter boat Black Label in Destin, FL!

    Destin Inshore Fishing Company

My family and I had a great experience with Destin Inshore Fishing Company. The whole trip was…read moreseamless. Everything was set up and ready to go when we arrived. The crew was great with the kids. They were able to drop lines and reel the fish in themselves. (Ages 8-12). We caught vermillion snapper (mingo), trigger fish, and white grunt "ruby lips". Good size fish to catch for the youngsters. After the crew cleaned the fish we walked down to Harry T's for a hook and cook deal. My only complaint would be that I would prefer the crew not smoke around the kids.

Done Deal--More Like Raw Deal…read more Do not waste your money on this charter. There are thousands of fishing options in Destin--choose another one. This company advertises mahi-mahi fishing, and August is one of the best times of year to target mahi. We specifically requested trolling, expecting at least an honest attempt at mahi or other pelagic fish. Instead, Captain Rusty ignored our request and made us bottom fish. If we had wanted a bottom-fishing trip, we could have booked a party boat for one-third of the price. The captain's attitude made it worse. My 80-year-old father-in-law politely said the radio was a little loud, so we asked for it to be turned down slightly. Captain Rusty responded by turning it off completely. My father-in-law has always dreamed of being a boat captain and simply wanted to sit up top and enjoy the experience. When we asked for a little more airflow, Rusty's response was, "I'd rather be hot." That comment perfectly captures his attitude toward his paying customers. Captain Rusty and the deckhands also smoked constantly around my asthmatic wife and father-in-law. They were unpersonable, dismissive and acted as if our presence was an inconvenience. After five hours, we had maybe three snapper to show for it. Of course, no charter can guarantee fish--but this wasn't simply bad luck. They advertised one type of fishing, ignored what we requested, delivered a much cheaper bottom-fishing experience and showed virtually no interest in making the trip enjoyable. This was an extremely expensive boat ride with a rude captain. Take your money elsewhere.
