I happened to be in Muncie, IN this past weekend and had the opportunity to have breakfast at IHOP. I've eaten at IHOP several times in various locations and have found the food to be consistently good wherever I've gone. My preference is family owned, private places but sometimes they aren't convenient. IHOP is a good second choice for those of you who are like-minded. Portions are generous and everything I've ever had tasted very good. Contrary to what I've heard people say, "You can't screw up breakfast", you absolutely can screw up breakfast. IHOP knows how to cook eggs so they're perfectly done. I'd say IHOP is at the top of their "slightly better than fast food" category.

Going to give the "ihob" a try

Very clean. Friendly service. Fast service. Too fast. She had our bill on our table before mid-meal. Almost took my plate away before I finished eating. 1 cowboy burger that barely had a drop of bar b que sauce on it and 1 swiss mushroom burger, both with fries and 1 soft drink plus 2 plain pancakes. $23.30 before tip. Buns are generic store bought no extra flavor. Very plain. Burgers no extra seasonings very plain. Fries very plain, make sure to salt them yourself. Our waitress was new and did try her best. Next time Chili's or Roadhouse. Same pricing better burgers. Stick to breakfast "ihop"

Just a sheet of copy paper as a coloring page. Pathetic.

Worst service ever! We were seated and never had a server come to our table. There was a family seated about seven minutes after us that immediately got their drink orders taken. I then had to stop another server and ask if we had a server. Then a lady came to our table saying our server had gone home but she would take our order. The food was blah and the portion sizes were extremely skimpy. My husband received about a spoonful worth of mashed potatoes. We were almost forgotten about the rest of the meal. Right about the time I was going to get up and ask someone for our check our server finally came to give us our check. Completely disappointed and we will never go back. On top of all of that, our son was literally given a piece of copy paper as a coloring page and as we were walking out they had actual coloring pages sitting on the check in desk. Probably one of the worst places to get service at in Muncie.

    I paid extra for this!!!!

Good, prompt service. Great place to take a mix of family. Senior specials offer a great deal of food.

That right there told me they don't mind being different in the style of food they serve! After checking over the menu full of wraps and burgers amongst a plethora of other bar food I ended up getting some wings to try and the house made chips. I got half my wings in the BBQ flavor and the other Buffalo. Being honest the wings weren't anything special but they did hit the spot and the BBQ sauce wasn't anything special to me on the wings but if it was used in some pulled pork or ribs I believe I would enjoy it more. The buffalo sauce was really good and had just enough heat to need the ranch here and there. The house made chips were good, not overly seasoned and not over cooked either. The place is small but has a handful of high top round tables and a few bigger square tables in the front with a decent bar strip with plenty of bottles and beers on tap. The pool table in the side room looked like a great area to hang around and play some pool while enjoying some beers with the company of friends. Next time I'm in town I will try one of their countless burger options!

Eventually she got off and sat us down at one of the tables in the bar area. I noticed all the wait staff were crowded around next to it where the kitchen meets the bar, and just chatting. I found it odd considering there's only one hostess and then there's all of these waitstaff just mingling about. But, being short staff is typical these days so I suppose that's probably how it is there. That's probably why the bartender was the one who waited on us as well. She was quite nice, and definitely knew how to make a good drink. I could hardly taste the alcohol in both. The first one I got was a lemonade type if I remember correctly, It was quite refreshing. The second drink I ordered was a blackberry margarita, which was honestly not good. I'm not big on sour, and it was pucker your lips and just drink it quick type sour for me. The rim had salt, and although I'm not a big salt rim person, that was probably my favorite part besides the actual blackberry floating in it. If you like sour you'd probably love it, but personally it was not for me. As far as food goes, we ordered the hummus appetizer to start. It came out fairly quick, and damn it was good. The fried pita bread with flakes of salt on top were our favorites. I could eat a whole big bowl of that alone if I could. When we almost were done with that, our food came out. My friend had ordered their crispy chicken in the dill pickle hot style, and both him and I were surprised at the amount of fries that came with. It was like fries with a side of chicken sandwich. He gave me a bite of his sandwich, and we both agreed it wasn't spicy or dill-y enough. The fries were honestly my favorite part out of all the food. They were so crisp and kept their warmth pretty well. They were also dusted in cinnamon sugar, which just made them 1000% better. Sometimes at other places you get them and they can be soggy or not have anything on them. They make them the right way here! For my meal, I got the drunken dory, I was debating on that or the blackened salmon salad, but figured why not go with some fries. Seeing how much fries my friend got vs myself, I was a little disappointed, but in the end he ended up stuffed whereas I had just enough. I really liked the plating on this, putting the fish on top of the fries so as the outside stays crispy on the fish. It did work, and overall was very nice. Could've used a bit of salt, and came out very hot though. All the food retained its heat very well. Their tartar sauce was also quite good, and as you can expect the coleslaw was nothing to write home about. I would definitely come back here again, probably try more of their apps and beers, I definitely like it better than some of the breweries over where I live in Virginia, so if you haven't tried it I highly recommend you do!

How great can the food be, really? Um, pretty freaking great, actually. I got a fish sandwich, which was a long filet of battered and fried fish, served on an ultra-soft hoagie roll, with a little lettuce and tartar sauce inside. The fish was perfectly crispy on the outside, and flaky and soft on the inside. It's the type of thing that I didn't want to stop eating, because the combination of textures was just perfect. Handhelds are served with a side, and I chose the side Caesar salad. It was an OK Caesar, and it did its job to satisfy my CaeSal craving. It comes with red onions on top, which is a choice. The service here was great. The restaurant has a big bar in the middle, with TVs showing sports. The whole place is surrounded by windows, so you can see out into downtown Muncie.
