While I grew up on Concannons and it delicious, they use super refined ingredients. Whenever I eat sweets, cakes or pastries here, I am immediately congested, start sneezing and or feel sick to stomach. I don't know if it's cheap overly refined sugar or cheap overly bleached flour. But there's something to it. The flavor is there, but I can't breathe afterwards and my body shuts down. It's hardly organic or clean. I have been in Muncie now for awhile. It amazes me that people eat this stuff. It's all the exact same stuff. It's not real pastry not even close. It's tons of bread w/ a little icing. Everything there is buttercream. They try to make you think it's different but it's not. You have to give them about 3 days for a whipped icing cake. Last time they were so rude I just walked out. I just don't know why people would want to waste calories on something so dang bad. And everything is always so dry. I don't want to be hyperbolic, but Concannon's makes the best donuts that I've eaten, ever, in my entire life. Ever. One hundred percent. Nay, one thousand percent. You guys. I don't play with donuts. I'm a donut-eating fool. Donuts are my thing. I have glaze running through my bloodstream. I've never eaten better donuts than the ones I got from Concannon's in Muncie. In fact, I'm planning another trip to Muncie JUST to visit Concannon's and get some donuts. What's a two-hour round-trip drive when you can be rewarded with amazing donuts during your journey? I visited Concannon's by myself, and although I wanted one of each of the donuts they had in the bakery case, I limited myself to three donuts: a glazed pretzel-shaped yeasted donut, a blueberry cake donut and an old fashioned donut. My go-to at any donut shop is usually a glazed twist, but they don't have glazed twists here! Instead, they have a glazed pretzel-shaped donut, which turned out to have all of the elements of a glazed twist, but it was just bigger and more twisty. It was amazing, pillowy, slightly sweet and even more delicious when you pull it apart with your fingers and eat it bit by bit. The blueberry cake and old-fashioned donuts were my favorites, though. These melted in my mouth, especially the old-fashioned. It was so tender and fresh. The old-fashioned is one of those kinds of donuts that I wish I enjoyed with some coffee, but instead, I ate it solo while dancing around delightedly in my hotel room. Concannon's has lots of other sweets, desserts and baked goods, like cakes (including mini cakes and individual cake slices), cookies, whoopie pies, chocolates, popcorn, candies and all sorts of other goodies. There is also a cafe with coffee and other beverages available. This is a must-visit if, like me, you love donuts, but also a must-visit in general because it's such a Muncie institution. read more

The parking lot was gridlock, this place is so popular! We waited for someone to leave to get a space. My Yelp friends said this locally owned donut shop is THE place to visit. The building is large by donut standards. Inside, the line forms to the left, pass tables of cupcakes, locally roasted coffee, Amish popcorn and more. The donut cases are hypnotic. Cases filled with the biggest, most colorful donuts I'd ever seen. The clerks are down home friendly and efficient. People moved through the line and checked out quickly. Prices are small town reasonable. I picked the local favorite - the glazed pretzel (it was the size of three glazed donuts twisted into a pretzel shape). I didn't think I would eat the whole thing, but I did. What a delicious donut! My granddaughter had her eyes on a chocolate layered concoction with strawberries. That donut disappeared so quickly. My husband had his usual apple fritter, which was packed with apple flavor. He was happy. Pass the racks of cakes, candy and other assorted goodies, is a dining area serving coffee. We sat and enjoyed our donuts there. The restrooms are clean and accessible. There's outdoor patio seating. Cakes are made to order. Concannon's Bakery has been a a go to shop since my childhood. I can recall being very young and picking up doughnuts with my mother at their downtown Muncie location in the early 1970's. Fast forward to 2024 and they have moved twice and are now on the Northwest side of Muncie in a beautiful large building since around 2010. Parking is in their own surface lot. The display cases are reminiscent of my teen years when looking over all of the yummy doughnuts. As well as the multi layered service behind the counter to serve customers quickly. I found the service to be very good. What has changed is the amount of additional items outside of their delicious doughnuts offered. Like pretzels, popcorn and various candies. All available by mail order. They also have these branded items in various locations in state and the Midwest. They also added a coffee bar in their newer location. A barista takes your order. Finally the biggest change is adding a dining room to enjoy these amazing doughnuts. I found the area clean. It's self busing. My order was a childhood favorite Long John with buttercream and a powdered sugar Long John with buttercream. I also ordered a house coffee. I enjoyed them in the dining room. The pastries seem close to identical, but smaller in size and much more expensive. I loved my visit back to my hometown and of course to a super FAVORITE business. However, they are not quite as amazing as they once were in my opinion on taste. At the same time major improvements have occurred which is appreciated. 4.5 rounding down and absolutely recommend hitting them up. read more

Stopped by for a few donuts yesterday. They put them in a bag. We went right home and the bag had all the icing stuck to the top. It was a bag of sticky so I just tossed them. In the past fillings were also watered down and we have had stale donuts. Taking them off my list of stops. read more

Heard they had good sugar cream pie, so had to stop in when I was nearby. Pretty steady on a Saturday morning. I just went to the bakery. Long line for donuts, plenty of other baked goods around, candy, etc. I grabbed a pie (labeled Old Fashioned Pie, not sugar cream) and headed to the other counter, where several clerks made for fast service. It's good. Loose, doesn't hold shape like homemade or especially Wick's, which is much more firm. Tastes good. Won't last long in this house. Easy access, plenty of parking, decent prices. I stopped in for lunch today and was sad to learn that the deli is permanently closed. We will miss the delicious soups, sandwiches, and wraps. After many visits here I would have to say that one of my favorite treats is the cheesecake. It is unique and available in slices or entire cheesecakes. They always have several varieties available. There is a long case filed with all sorts of delicious donuts, beautiful cookies and cupcakes. The cream filled long johns are worth the trip all on their own. Every time I stop by I think I know what I want, but then when I get inside I find other sweets and treats that I need. They offer a huge variety of pastries, cookies, cupcakes, popcorn, and candies, and many are in gift boxes. This is a fun, cute, shop and I always stop by when I am in the area. read more

A Muncie institution for as long as I can remember. If it is a baked item, they either have it or could probably make it for you. Cakes, pies, breads, cookies, pastries, and of course--donuts both cake and glazed yeast or REAL donut holes with all the various crunchy crispy and imperfections. If you can get them when they are still warm, you will find yourself at a place just this side of Heaven. These baked goods are so good and so relatively inexpensive the tendency will be to go in there and tell the clerk "I want that, that, that, that, and that and give me some those, those and those." Avoid this. It is far better to go in more often than to over do it and be eating stale baked goods a week later. Personal favorites are the light and fluffy glazed yeast donuts. Blueberry cake donuts. Cream filled chocolate cupcakes. Cream filled chocolate iced long John's. Crispie--it's about the only place you can get them. How can you not like Concannon's? Their donuts are heavenly. We tried an apple fritter, blueberry and donut holes. All were fresh, soft and mega delicious!! The facility is large so there was plenty of seating. I really like the solid wood furniture and decor. They have so many products to review for purchase. I'm sure many are delicious and worth a try. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The only thing I didn't like was the line I had to follow due to Covid protocols. I felt like I couldn't browse the store and take in the experience as much. I have been going to Concannon's since high school and no one can beat their donuts. I will put them up against anybody! I've moved to Indianapolis and asked what is the best bakery in town and I have to say I haven't found one close to Concannon's My friend challenged me to that. I told her Concannon's 2 day old donuts will beat hers. On Monday she brought in her favorite donuts and I told her to try my pretzel donuts. Needless to say I won.
