Was in town for a conference and overheard someone say this place has the best wings! I stopped by for dinner to try them out and check out what one of the more popular Muncie bars has to offer. The special when I walked in was a pizza burger! That right there told me they don't mind being different in the style of food they serve! After checking over the menu full of wraps and burgers amongst a plethora of other bar food I ended up getting some wings to try and the house made chips. I got half my wings in the BBQ flavor and the other Buffalo. Being honest the wings weren't anything special but they did hit the spot and the BBQ sauce wasn't anything special to me on the wings but if it was used in some pulled pork or ribs I believe I would enjoy it more. The buffalo sauce was really good and had just enough heat to need the ranch here and there. The house made chips were good, not overly seasoned and not over cooked either. The place is small but has a handful of high top round tables and a few bigger square tables in the front with a decent bar strip with plenty of bottles and beers on tap. The pool table in the side room looked like a great area to hang around and play some pool while enjoying some beers with the company of friends. Next time I'm in town I will try one of their countless burger options! read more

Savages is a favorite of ours. They have an awesome beer selection and their food hits the spot. If you like fried foods, their app trio is wonderful. Or favs are the mushrooms, mozzarella, and jalapeño poppers. The sauces are fantastic. A nice marinara, ranch (which I assume is handmade, and a sweet chili. I usually get their Reuben. It's so good and the corned beef is lean. No bouncy pieces. But this time I tried their veggie melt. Very nice. Imagine a Reuben but instead of meat, they use spinach, mushrooms, and bell peppers. So good. You'd better believe that there were some crazy cheese pulls. Please go. You won't regret it. read more

I don't know exactly what counts as a dive bar, but Savage's might fit that bill. Unassuming, popular with locals, and extremely affordable. They have lots of rotating draft options and a variety of delicious pub food. Somehow it's very cheap for 2024 restaurant prices. I got the loaded fries and I also tried the jalapeno poppers my partner ordered. Both were delicious. The bacon bleu cheese burger really hit the spot. I stopped by for lunch today and it was a great choice. Service was super friendly I ordered the grilled cheese sandwich, which contained several breaded mozzarella sticks and came with a side of marinara. It was unique and delicious. The side salad I ordered was much more than I had expected for $4.50, it was better than the salad I had at a steakhouse last night. Servings are generous and prices are incredibly cheap. I was in the middle of my workday so I didn't have any beer but there was an impressive selection. Definitely would return here, highly recommend. read more

An absolute waste of time. Should be clearly advertised as a 21+ establishment include their online profile. I had a 2 month old infant and was turned away before even stepping foot inside. The waiter was very off putting and made me feel extremely uncomfortable about the entire situation. It is advertised as a casual dining experience and mentions nothing about not being about to eat with my child who clearly is not going to be a disturbance considering he can neither walk, talk, or consume anything other than milk. Would highly recommend the restaurant be clear about what kind of clientele they want. This is a great Muncie bar/restaurant. I discovered it about a year ago. Nice drinks on tap. Get a "Chuck Berry"...yummmmm! I always say "this time I'm gonna get something different"? My colleagues and I had a group dinner (15 people total) at Savage' The food was okay, nothing spectacular. Ale House during a work trip. Overall, the experience was OK. I could quickly tell that the waitress was overwhelmed with the size of our party. We constantly had to remind her of missing items. We had to get a quarterwas okay, nothing spectacular. My daughter attended Ball State University so when I found myself in Muncie for the day I asked her for a lunch recommendation. She immediately responded with Savages ale house and told me to get the mozzarella stick grilled cheese sandwich. It did not disappoint. What a unique spin on grilled cheese, not the healthiest by any means, but it was good. Served with a dish of marinara sauce my only suggestion is that the sauce should be warm and not cold as it was. Had the fried mushrooms as a side, the breading was good and the mushrooms were hot and juicy. We got to Savages just before the courthouse lunch bunch came rushing in. We got our order in and waited well over 45 minutes, and I finally asked about our meals and were told 10 more minutes, and she was right We enjoyed great seasoned French fries, BBQ wings, and a chicken club all tasty and well cooked. The Reuben is a very fresh and large sandwich and the shedtown chicken is a very hot and spicy sandwich, which was delicious in my book, their jalapeño poppers were good but the dipping sauce they serve has a bit of a mint taste to it. If you can get to this place, it is worth it! First, at the time of my visit, the Yelp map showed the location as being on the northwest corner of Washington and High Streets, but I've put in a request to Yelp to fix it because it actually sits on the southwest corner across from the courthouse statues. It is also challenging if you aren't familiar with all the one way streets in Muncie. Washington is one way eastbound. High Street is one way south bound, so you feel a sense of accomplishment just finding your way to one of the free street parking spaces along the front of the restaurant/bar on High St. Even during the pandemic, the place had a large lunch crowd. I didn't see any outdoor seating, but when we entered, one of the staff mentioned to choose our own location. There are several sections in the building, so instead of seating in the bar area, we grabbed a table in the sunnier section near the entrance. Tables were decently spaced but maybe not exactly 6 feet apart once people were seated. But since the section wasn't full, we felt no sense of being uncomfortable. Our waitress was prompt on checking our beverage orders and brought them out in a timely way. We did wait a little for her to take our food orders, but the longest wait was for the food to come out of the kitchen. It took close to 40 minutes from the time we entered until we got our food. Seemed a little bit long. Each of us got something different. I really enjoyed my Grilled Chicken Spinach Wrap that was lightly dressed, not drowning in dressing. Just the right size for lunch. The chicken was cooked just right and the spinach hadn't wilted trapped inside the wrap with the chicken. So, it tasted fresh. My wife ordered the special which was 2 Chicago Dogs for $8. Okay from her, but she's had some outstanding Chicago Dogs from a place near our home town (BTB offers Windy City Dogs for $8 each that are deep fried!) So, these were okay, but nothing she raved about. She upgraded from chips to sweet potato fries with a cinnamon dip that she enjoyed. One of our friends ordered the Shroom Burger and a side of fried pickles. Good review from him. And our remaining member of our party ordered a chicken sandwich (without the bun) and ordered the side of veggies with a red pepper humus for dipping. She gave good marks for her meal too. So, everyone enjoyed what they got. Good food, but a bit of a wait. That was fine with us since our group enjoys leisurely meals together since we are retired. It is a chance for us to chat and enjoy a break from sitting alone our individual homes. Good food, friendly service, just a little hard to locate if you aren't familiar with the street flow. Hit and miss. After many visits (husband and I became fans), finally had a crappy visit. His burger was way overdone (tough he said) but he wouldn't complain and the tenderloin we brought home for the teenager was barely eaten before being put in the trash. Guess it depends on who's cooking and you can get lucky or very unlucky. We stopped our weekly visits because of this last disappointment. I love Savage's! This bar is located in downtown Muncie. The food is great. They have mozzarella stuffed grilled cheese. If that can't get you into the restaurant nothing can. We got to Savage's late after a day of helping with a move to Muncie. Wow! What a great find! I got a tall, cold Miller Light (in spite of sitting looking at the giant map of craft beers) and burger with fries. Excellent late night food. Excellent dive kind of place with pool tables and tall tables and nice little spaces for your group. As usual, Indiana and Muncie has the best, most cordial servers. I have to say that this great place is worn in the best way. Also, it is one of the cleanest places I have ever eaten in. Really! Who would expect that level of clean and not sticky after 10pm!
