We loved how nice our neighbors were, there were kids that played in the area and you could feel that it was a family friendly community. The only two things that made it hard were; the stairs. We lived on the third floor with no elevator and during my 2 pregnancies this was challenging. Also, parking is expensive. Normally i have lived places where you get at least one spot, and we were paying 150 for a garage and 75 for a covered spot. They say there is street parking around but there is never any available so you do have to spring for the spot. Even with the two cons we loved this apartment. They continually strive to maintain the property with vendors for the pool area, lawn and plants, cleaning the gutters, maintaining the parking area and the buildings exteriors and balconies. Pedro is the onsite maintenance person and he is always on top of any requests. The 2 bedroom floorplan is very spacious and the closets have a TON of storage! The remodel done a few years ago is great quality! Sturdy cabinets, solid appliances and beautiful countertops. Nothing like I have experiences at other complexes in the county where you can see they cut corners and used subpar quality materials. We love it so much that we even got on the waitlist for a 3 bedroom and upgraded last year! Parking can be challenging but the City of Santee recently extended the parking zone on the street so there is less red zone and more street parking. They also have garages available for rent (you may have to get on the waitlist but its worth it). The garage is HUGE!! Large enough for 2 cars and a ton of storage. Laundry is always difficult when you live in an apartment but the laundry room is open 24 hours and we always find a way to make it work. I also love the app for loading funds for laundry and have never had an issue with it not working. But I must say having Tara as the on site property manager is what truly sets Fanita Meadows apart from other complexes. Tara is so kind, attentive and a absolute gem! Anytime concerns were brought to the office, the responses felt completely nonchalant like it was just "normal" and not something worth properly addressing. On top of that, there was one female office employee who was consistently rude, dismissive, and honestly just mean whenever residents had concerns. It got to the point where neighbors would warn each other about dealing with her because apparently everyone already knew how she treated people. For the amount tenants pay, nobody should have to deal with bugs everywhere while being treated like they're dramatic for complaining about it. Speaking of her, watch out because she has a history of harassing tenants. If you're curious just take a walk through the property and ask anyone if they've had a positive interaction with her, the answer is likely no. Not to mention she creates an environment of hostility among tenants. There is a specific tenant who may or may not drive a white Range Rover who does not like that people socialize near that area. Some people smoke and she accuses the group of smoking on the steps every single day and the female office employee will rush to the steps to literally raise her voice at tenants when she doesn't even catch anyone smoking. The list goes on and on. I know people will read this with the typical perspective that I'm only sharing the bad things but please remember this used to be a property that was lively and tenants would bring friends to. There never were available units and now you can walk in pretty much any day of the week and have your pick. Not only was his bid very competitive, but he even took the time to review a competitor's quote with me and pointed out exactly where I was being overcharged for work I didn't even need. He and his son, Garrison, are really solid people. Even though he's a stucco expert and not a leak detection specialist, he went well above and beyond by helping me troubleshoot with a water test to make sure we found the actual source of the leak. For the stucco work that was required, he handled the repairs beautifully. Just as importantly, John identified work that wasn't necessary. If you want someone good-natured, patient, and truly an expert who cares about the final result, call these guys.

I have two toddlers and the apartment is very family-friendly, feeling safe walking around the complex. The surrounding are upkept and maintained nicely. The location is superb as it is right next to the stores complex w/ Albertson, Subway, Mexican food, and even a Vietnamese restaurant, a bonus for me and my Vietnamese craving. The gas station is right down there too. We are able to walk to the stores all the times. Nearby schools are great (from Preschool up to Middle School as far as I know), my two toddlers' school are 5 minutes down the street. This is the first time I live in an apartment setting and I do enjoy all the perks. The pool/jacuzzi that we are able to enjoy over the summer and the gym so we can do a quick workout, nothing fancy but practical and nice to have. And of course, for my first experience with apartment, the fast response from Maintenance whenever we needs some help definitely taking the stress off the need to find a Handyman on our own.

Here's my takeaway: if they are always going to drop the "boss is a lawyer" bit, how awful is this place going to be to live? It seems ominous already and I don't even live there. I could lawyer up too (I have needed to before). But why would you want to put that energy out there. If a "lawyer" is taking actual months to draw up such an advantageous lease for them, where will that leave us? Up shit creek, that's where. I literally never have seen an apartment put move ins on hold to write up a more self serving lease. Josie seemed nice, but I felt put off ultimately by the constant "my boss is a lawyer," name dropping. I was told, no bankruptcies, period. Everyone says that. I had a hard time physically and lost a business. Hence, the bankruptcy, several years ago. My credit is solid now, really good. Most NORMAL people can figure that out. Then Josie says, "for 7 years or more." They clearly do not have a clue on what they are doing. After 7 years, you actually can file ANOTHER bankruptcy. Not that I'm planning on it, but that's what the 7 years mark is. I was really shocked that she didn't know the basics of that. My credit is good enough to obtain a mortgage at this point (I have spoken to a lender), but not rent at the Mellmanor. Maybe it's a nice place, I will never know.
