Great place to come and be secured that everybody is being mindful on social distancing. They have enough hand sanitizers in each section of the store. They are doing some remodeling to prepare for new products coming in too. What I love about this place that it doesn't get that packed with people. However, there's always people who don't mind and still want to lay down on top of the beds and relax on the sofas, so a suggestion, to be mindful that those things aren't constantly sanitized. read more

I am caught between two worlds regarding Ikea. The first world: products. The products that are made of wood or metal are generally good. The second world: interior. The interior of Ikea offers a completely awful experience. The number of times that I have aimlessly been slumbering through the store like a zombie in a crappy slasher movie hurts to think about. "Oh my gosh! I'm on the 1st floor, almost to the checkout!" 20 minutes later: "Lamps and lights? The checkout is nowhere in sight." Being stuck inside the IKEA labyrinth is at best a demoralizing way to get exercise. read more

I always dread coming here. Especially on weekends. After about 20 minutes, my head becomes dizzy and I start to feel like I need to leave. The layout is what is difficult. The entire store is designed as one big maze that you have to navigate. And don't even bother trying to do the shortcuts or you'll get lost even more. The items sold here are very cheap, both in price and in quality. I'm always hesitant getting something because I know it'll feel cheap at my home. The beds are especially cheap and I feel like you can get a much sturdier somewhere else. The things I would buy here are light bulbs, dishes, picture frames and items like that. The furniture is just too flimsy for me. The food court is, however, pretty good. You can get a good warm meal for a great price and be very satisfied. Everyone knows what Ikea is at this point, unless you've been locked away somewhere or living under a rock or some such. Pluses are comparatively cheap furnishings, household goods, clean lines. Minuses include shoddy workmanship, putting stuff together yourself, everyone else on the block has the same "Billy" bookcase too. One thing that bugged me on a recent trip to the Bolingbrook Ikea: Ikea doesn't have plastic bags anymore (ok fine, greening etc, yeah yeah, very admirable; cheaper for them too, don't forget), but if you need a bag they make you buy one for $0.59 (hardly optional, since nobody buys just one thing there, and i wasn't carrying my collapsable Target bag in my purse -- oh and ps, the bag they offer you is made of a form of plastic! How is this better?), and then the clerk doesn't even bag the stuff for you! That was the part that really got to me, beyond having to buy the bag. Customer service apparently got lost in translation from the Swedish. I must say that this store does have the problem of funneling approximately 50 million customers into about 4 open check-out lines at any given time that I've been here. But since you've just traversed the entire huge store and amassed a mound of goodies, you're not going to chuck it at that point. I'll still shop at Ikea because it would be impossible not to. But I'll come armed with a bag and not expect much from the check-out clerks. Caveat emptor. read more

IKEA can be an overwhelming shopping experience, even if you're only coming for one thing, have measurements on hand, and feel super prepared. But one thing that helps is when the staff is super friendly and helpful, and your chances of having a positive experience increase if you can avoid this spot on the weekend. I visited this location on a Friday morning and it made all the difference. I knew what I wanted, but when I found it in the show room, the location card was not included. When I finally reached the end of the store (after picking up a variety of other things I "needed") I easily found an employee who was happy to look up my item for me. She verified they had the item, arranged for me to pick it up after check out, and everything went smoothly. The lines were reasonable, the prices were great, and overall this trip went very smoothly aside from the store being sold out of a couple decorative items I was interested in. For how crazy this place is every single time we come, we love it. They have such a wide selection of home items to choose from. We know we need at least an hour when we come here because we're going to get stuck browsing. We love the staged room sets, especially the kitchens and peeking around at all the different finishes. We came for a mirror and unfortunately didn't know the product number/location so we had to snake through the entire store to find it. Note to self, the mirrors are on the lower level and you can head straight to them on the lower level rather than going through the store. The mirror we snagged is a great quality. It called the "NISSEDAL" mirror and stands at about 5 feet. I think it is such an awesome price for a mirror of this size and quality because mirrors can be pricey! The Ikea cashier was friendly and didn't say anything about half-eaten cookie package slowly making its way down the conveyor belt to ring up after our mirror. Yes, they have randomly some of the best shortbread cookies ever. They're located past the registers in the little marketplace but you can snag them quick before you checkout. They have a chocolate filling and I can't leave the store without them. We'll be back soon I'm sure :) read more

I don't often do this but thought I would take a quick minute to pass along my compliments to one of Ikea's store representatives; specifically Phil in the showroom at the Bolingbrook, IL location Recently I stopped in to view shelving options I have been considering for a bedroom in my home.  I have been researching different options from vendors/stores.  So on a recent weekend I did some measurements once again and have decided to go with the large Kallax dark brown/black unit. Phil was very patient with my unending questions, showed exceptional product knowledge (at Ikea I have been considering the Kallax or Pax product line options), and conveyed a very helpful but not pushy attitude.  It was refreshing to find someone with genuine personality, professionalism, and a little helpful humor thrown in. What a horrible store. Oh my goodness, this place is a nightmare!!! And the checkout was the worst experience. Stood in line for 30min while one millennial worker stood around doing nothing. He was a total douchebag. I bought 3 baskets, of which, one was apparently the display. All the baskets for purchase was in one area and because one of the baskets didn't have the proper ticker he would sell it. His words "it doesn't have a barcode". Are you kidding me? Hey dummy, I have 2 identical baskets, scan that code. The flakey kid can't possibly comprehend doing that so I have to walk back upstairs through the maze to that section. I love ikea and I been going to ikea all my life. But this location needs to train their staff. Last time when i was at check out, the girl accidentally scanned 4 times of a paint. I realized after I paid, so I went back to her, she was like oh well let me get the manager to do this. Took another 10 minutes to fix this, up until i was about to leave, not a single sorry. So I asked her if there's anything that she would like to say, she said oh yeah, have a good day. We had never been to this location before. We normally go to Schaumburg & love it. This location only has two floors & seems to have a lot less than the other with three floors. Nevertheless, we found the towels I had originally seen at the other location. So I grabbed those amongst several other items. The prices were the same. For some reason, this one just didn't appear to be kept up as nice although there were lots of employees running around. We did come across several sitting around on their phones, one even discussing her dating issues (not real professional to do this on the floor). We did see some employees stocking & hopefully tidying up. For our regular IKEA shopping, I think we will stick to Schaumburg & I would suggest the same for others. read more

Absolutely love IKEA stuff. Yes, it comes with all sorts of weird Swedish and other local fasteners, but if you actually follow the instructuions...it always fits together just right. I have never purchased something from IKEA and found myself looking for an extra fastener at the end. They ship the right amount of stuff, and the stuff they ship fits in the product. The quality of the products is very nice and the selection/choices is just right. IKEA has become the go-to place for college kids and newly marrieds and you can see why. They stock the fashionable stuff and they are a hip store. With lots of choices and selection of colors...IKEA works. Highly recommended. read more

I had to choose at least one star but ZERO is my rating! IKEA you need a better concept. When a customer finds something on the display floor and has to go down to the merchandise level only to find out that the item has been discontinue! Then you offer to sell the display item but are not willing to have an associate (one of only three that we seen during our entire time at the store) to go back up to the display level to retrieve the item (we had the little item ticket so it shouldn't have been a problem finding it), for us. NO we had to drag ourselves all the way back through the store to get it ourselves. We were told we would get a discount because it was a display- only to find out once at the register that we needed to go to a separate area first to get the item priced with a discount!!! REALLY??? Not one of the associates gave a crap - just all looked at us like they couldn't find their own way through the store. Bad service is an understatement. And why in the world wasn't the item on display marked - Discontinued - only display available for purchase - no that would be using common sense, which clearly is not a requirement for employment at IKEA in Bolingbrook! ! Terrible experience from start to finish, if we could even finish the kitchen. Where do I even begin? Let's start with the fact that it was sold to us as an easy DIY. Nope there is no way that the average layperson could do this themselves. Not even a very handy person. We ended up having to hire their contractor that does their showrooms because no contractor wants to touch an IKEA kitchen. Over $4,000 just to install the kitchen so factor that into the cost. Let's see then there was the fact that the designer designed our kitchen 6 inches over the ceiling line. Then multiple cabinet swaps because the original design didn't work with the layout. Then multiple trips to IKEA because the replacement parts that they gave me were incorrect. Plus missing parts from the original shipped order. Then comes the best part the countertops. They're supposed to laser measure but instead some kid showed up with a notepad and a tape measure. Then for the cherry on top they want to charge me $1200 more for countertops than I already paid for because they supposedly made a mistake. I believe there's consumer protection laws against this. Long story short IKEA has no business selling kitchens. They should stick to drapes and meatballs. Not to mention the incompetence of the kitchen staff at the Schaumburg location. Eric who I talked to almost a week ago was supposed to get my issue resolved with the price hike and I had to call multiple times just to get someone to answer the phone. When I talked to Wendy the manager she was pretty much clueless about the issue because it seems he just mentioned it to her casually in passing. Moral of the story DON'T buy an IKEA kitchen. IKEA does not have a handle on the process and you will ultimately regret it like we have. read more

After paying for my meal, I was asked if I wanted the receipt, with COVID restrictions and a huge plastic barrier between me and the cashier, I declined. That was a mistake. But Ikea is cool. : ) We furnished our first home with Ikea when money was tighter and we found all of the pieces we purchased to be pretty good quality. If you're in college or trying to adult like a boss, then you probably have made the trip to an IKEA. This location is like most of the other locations: parking lots that spans as far as the eye can see, multiple floors with the first being where you pick up what you've scribbled down on your shopping list, and even a cafe of sorts. I much prefer this location to the Schaumburg location, because it's not as confined and is more spread out in terms of layout. The staff does a good job of keeping things clean, but it's still quite busy even on weekdays/nights. Check out their clearance section. Occasionally they'll put some nice display pieces in there that are nicely discounted. When you're tired of walking around, browsing, or just feel a hunger in your body crying out for some kind of nourishment, you'll be pleased that IKEA has their usual cinnamon buns, hot dogs, pizza, ice cream, and my favorite lingonberry beverage (now in slurpee form!) Don't be a hater, if you can't assemble the furniture like what you see in the store. That's what instructions and friends are for. It's relatively cheap furniture, but they are starting to offer higher-end items and all sorts of knick-knacks that you may or may not find use for. read more

This person mentioned they're an interior decorator and only comes here for ideas on staging. So pretty much this person states that they know the products here are not reliable but that IKEA's keen eye for style is "great". Well guess what..their stuff is garbage! It doesn't last more than a year and most people that shop here are NOT interior decorators. If you're looking to invest in furniture that you will use everyday: bed, couch, etc..Don't get it here! We all know IKEA fills a niche ~ no money, first apartment, cheap furniture, and willing to assemble things yourself. Have at it if you fit that description. This IKEA is not as large as the one in Schaumburg, but still tends to be confusing. The best way to maneuver through the store is to use the map and as many shortcuts as you can find. Furniture is on the second floor and everything else is on the first floor. Not too, too long ago they rearranged the first floor, so check the map to save time. Checkout is ALWAYS the worst part. Lines are long and very slow moving. And, it might help to write down the info on where to find your item, especially if you have more than one item. You need the aisle number and then the bin number, and just as a final pain in your butt, make sure you have the appropriate number of boxes for that specific item. I find it helpful to obtain all that info on line before I even enter the store. A few times I was lucky enough to not even have to walk through the store, but straight to the area to pick up necessary boxes. What a mother won't do for her children. read more

It's an Ikea and so just for that it's basically an easy 3 star write up, but when I went there with the lady friend and we were looking for bath mats it was hard to navigate through-the layout here is a little different from the Schaumburg, Atlanta, Seattle or LA ones I've been to. When we saw two employees walking and talking my gf flagged them down but they walked past her and after saying "Excuse me," "excuse me, I have a question," and finally "EXCUSE ME, I HAVE A QUESTION," they turned around and looked at her like she had something growing out of her forehead and then said "yeah?" Excuse me? I'm sorry that we interrupted your conversation but since you're on the clock maybe you should tear yourself away from whatever the hell it was you were talking about and pay attention to customers. On top of that if someone does have a question maybe you should be a little nicer when someone does come up to you. My emotional spectrum when it comes to retail employees have ranged from amazed to stunned shock, this time it went somewhere near the neighborhood of "I want to head kick the both of you and watch you twitch." There is not a lot I can say about Ikea that people don't already know. It's an Ikea. But this one is nice. It's well-maintained. The staff are nice and helpful. The food is at least as good as other Ikeas, maybe better. The furniture and items are all basically the same and as you would expect - that's why people love Ikea and other chains: everything is the same. Consistency and homogenaity are the rule. That's why we love chains, and why I hate them. But, there are times when you still need them, I guess. Ah well... Anyway, this is one of the two Ikeas in the Chicago area. I've been to both. I think I like this one better, but it is farther from home. Because it is only marginally better, I'll probably go to the other more. But this is a good one, and you should go. Really. I don't want to seem ungrateful because I do appreciate having simple home tools so close to, well, home, BUT even though it's huge, it's much smaller than the Schaumburg location and the set up is brutal. The place is set up like an f-ing maze. If you forgot something in the beginning you have to trek it all the way back around the snake style layout. want to go to second floor? Go back to start. The place lacks staff and if you need something heavy or located high up, forget it. Go home, get your troops, and come back. You'll need need backup. I do really enjoy the food here... probably more than any person should enjoy food at a home goods store but whatever. It's down home cooking... probably from a frozen box of something, just like everything I ate growing up- I love and crave it. Breakfast for $1.99? Yes, please. Two! The $1.00 fat free frozen yogurt cones are AWESOME!!! But I would appreciate more consistency on flavor. I want chocolate and vanilla swirled together! Good afternoon, My wife and I are fans of the stores (Schaumburg & Bolingbrook) and every time we've gone it's very packed. Sure everyone wears a mask, there's hands sanitizer at some corners of the store, and they've got 6ft. social distancing decals on the floors at check out but, it's really not that easy for the staff to enforce the proper safety precautions because PEOPLE want to do whatever they want to do and it's out of control and the IKEA staff have got their hands tied because customer service is very important to their reputation and the last thing they need is a hoard of angry customers who can't help but whine about their freedom being taken from them when that's not even the case. "We love you IKEA"...but there's only one problem I've got with you; and that's the lack of ordering online capability. My wife for THE LONGEST TIME since June has been trying to order your Alex drawers with the table top and it's ALWAYS out of stock. And DO NOT get me started with the "Malm dressing table"..It's ALWAYS out of stock at both locations but we're ordering them online. So I'm wondering, is everything we order online coming from the store or is it coming from a warehouse hub located elsewhere because I really am finding it extremely HARD to believe that your store gets its shipment of 20-25 units of each product and "PUFF!" it's gone in a half hour. It's utterly impossible, there's not even that high of a population in each county within the state of Illinois that would need such a product.. Think about it...your stores get a shipment of at least 20, 25 to 30 or maybe 40 units of your hottest selling item 3 to 6 times 'each time' you need to restock to your shelves, and the majority of your customers are most likely from within the following counties: Cook, Lake, DePage and Will..and you probably get close to about 3,000 to 4,700 customers *per day* (that number is according to your company's statistics who are based on your customers who actually go to the store to buy items versus the ones who go to just look around or to kill time), and yet well within the time frame of an hour, ALL of your Malm dressing tables, ALL of your LINNMON / ALEX desks, ALL of your Micke desks (which I am truly lucky that my wife & I managed to finally get our hands on), and ALL of you HEMNES shoe storage units ARE ALL GONE?!......How is this even humanly possible? And here's another thing I'm plagued with; the site asks us (like a game show host with a cheesy grin), "Select your store" and I'm wondering: "Hmm, Why?", so I pick the Schaumburg store and it states that the item I'm looking for is "Out of Stock" then I'm like: "Hmm, that's odd..Ok, no worries, I'll just check for it by switching to the Bolingbrook store." and when I do, "BAM!" same thing; "OUT OF STOCK"....my jaw drops and then when I'm asking myself: "Ok, I get it..they're out of stock at both stores but, what's that got to do with the IKEA website? I'm ordering it ONLINE, not from the store." Can ANYONE please tell me how is this even remotely good for business? Or if anyone from IKEA Corporate can someone explain this to me. We recently left Ikea in Bolingbrook with tears of joy recently all because of your wonderful sales coworker Phil in the Living Room department . You see, we are educators from Ukraine who are living with relations in the Chicago because of war . We have only been here short time and do not know about living here too much . Phil was very helpful in letting us understand IKEA but also walked us through the store assisting us with our purchases and making sure that we understood function of each item. As we ended our interaction , Phil asked us more about life in Ukraine and then spoke " Slava Ukrani" which means Glory to Ukraine . We cried on the way home. And buy cheap I mean both in terms of price and quality they do have a very modern taste to their furniture that is your style expirations the store layout is one of the worst parts about IKEA. When I was there last Tuesday it took me almost 10 minutes to get to where I need to go to find just one product. They also have an issue with personnel. It seems like it is always possible to find someone with however we still ended up buying a couch with a pull out bed. This is my favorite Ikea! At least as far as the Illinois Ikea comparison goes. This location is a tad smaller than the Schaumburg location, but everything I have ever wanted has been in-stock and available. It's less crowded, believe it or not. AND! They actually let you bring your merchandise to your car with your cart. At the Schaumburg location you have to pull your car up to the loading area because they wont let you take your cart out of that area. What the heck man? I don't want to have to pull my car around to load a million picture frames that aren't even large or heavy, just too many to carry in my arms. Dumb! 99% of my household inventory is from Ikea and I have never purchased something I've regret. My Karlstad sofa/chase combo and Lillesand bedframe are two of my favorite purchases. I also own a large fortune of picture frames. Everything at Ikea is so affordable and practical. I love that my sofa has removable covers that I can wash or replace. They also have some pretty good deals if you pay attention. When I bought my sofa I got 15% of my purchase back on a gift card (hey, it was like $150 of free money!), they often have an eat for free deal (you spend $100 and they'd deduct your lunch from your total bill.
