Walking into ikea is like a second chance of life, I get to play different roles out in my head as i travel across different rooms but also travel across different worlds. One minute I'm an arguing husband complaining about dinner not being made in time, and yelling at the kids for not taking out the trash again. But then i close eyes, and I open them again. and in front is a beautiful inground pool and as i gracefully wash my plates taking in the soothing and comfortable life i've built myself. This is my i made it moment. I was sad that I had to leave this world behind as i continue to walk around the store. I followed the arrows and before me i was surrounded by random assortments of furniture types. A shelf full of wooden chairs, beds that make you question if you really do get good sleep at night, and built out bathrooms with a toilet sink and mirror (only the mirror works). It was so good it reminded me of when she used to stay over my place and leave behind kind messages through the fog of the mirror as she bids me farewell. After more than a decade of not seeing it, I couldn't believe the sight in front of me as the pile of colorful ballpit looked right back at me, waiting for my return. but the place was closed and i was really bummed out. I pass through the children's section filled with nostalgic toy trains and plushes, making me wonder when my time will arrive for me to parent one of my own. If only she came back. After the maze of life that i survived, i made it to the bottom of the store near checkout. Shit felt like a warehouse, kinda like how i used to work at amazon and wondered if this is all life had to offer. after being convinced to buy some loofahs, i sneak past checkout and craved urgently a nice cup of that nostalgic vanilla frozen yogurt i once enjoyed as a child. They were out of strawberry and basically everything but the vanilla frozen yogurt cup (yup they were out of cones too). After finally receiving it I was astounded by the insanely basic taste this was literally straight from burger king. Will I never have that same experience again? Will sysco follow me wherever I go? Chipotle Chicken 5.9/10 - I was served my plates by a beautiful black woman, I wonder if she'd write messages on the mirror too. The chicken looked pretty decent at first glance, the texture? it was surprisingly tender, the chicken was shredded way easier than i expected, lowkey suspicious. The rice was bland, the beans were so basic no different than a can of them. and the plantains were good just not my thing personally. The sauce was heavy on spices, but the flavor of chicken itself wasn't all there, which made me wonder if it really is chicken. taste like chicken, looks like chicken, smells like chicken, but does sysco really sell chickens? Pasta with marinara sauce 2.6/10 - A child could've made a better pasta with sauce than this. god damn I did not think sauce could be so much like straight water, and the pasta was like wet cardboard, no offense to the beautiful woman in the back i'm more than sure she didn't make this slop, her graceful hands would never come near such an abomination of life. If i left this outside for some animals to eat, the only thing gone would be the cardboard sheet holding it. This level of torture is beyond the morals of humanity, I can only imagine and fear the evil figure behind this weapon of mass destruction. Swedish meatballs with mashed potatoes 6.4/10 - This ikea classic was a must grab for a taster of the finer things such as myself. They were aight, got the job done, once i felt full i had no desire to eat even as much as a crumb. the meatballs themselves kinda tasted like meat. could've fooled me, and the sauce on top gave it a starchy layer of moistness. the mash potatoes, straight from one of those packets, it was as soft as baby food, and i didn't know how to feel about that, it did leave a cozy feeling inside of me. The lingen berry sauce was a new one for me, it was your run of the mill sweet jam that brought an interesting twist to the meatballs. DO NOT mix this with the mash potatoes, i will not be making that mistake again. The veggies were weirdly memorable, like the ones you never ate from your school lunch (yes ALL of us) Vanilla Frozen yogurt 6.1/10 - One thing I always loved about ikea was finally leaving and getting some ice cream, and eating it on the cone was really an experience everyone should get to have at least once in their life. That was before big brother sysco came to town and took one of the only things in this world that i loved, other than her... Always love to visit the cafe and do plane watching. Again make sure you get into the store wifi to get any signals for your phone. They have updated the seating area for the cafe. It is very nice and on a beautiful day you can see the planes take off or land, depending on the wind direction. You can stay for as long as you wish (at least on weekdays). Food is not too bad. The meatballs are always fresh and yummy, and my daughter loves the mac and cheese. Service was usually fast and efficient, unless you went in on a busy day. The store has changed it's layout over the years. However price is definitely still excellent. On a hot day walking around IKEA will be a good exercise. read more

This IKEA is near Newark's airport in Elizabeth and offers the usual furniture, decor, kitchen gadgets and the delicious Swedish meatballs at their food court. As always with ikea it's hard to tag someone if you need help so get ready to do your own research. On the positive side it's great to be able to shop without annoying pushy salespeople. Keep in mind they open somewhat late at 11am on weekdays and 10am on weekends so don't go too early. I recommend going between 11am and 2pm on weekdays since it's somewhat empty at that time. There's a huge parking lot so parking shouldn't be an issue. While some of staff members are friendly, some of them look miserable and put zero effort to assist. For example, the lady handling returns and one of the guys from the food court. They should work for the DMV! read more

We all love an occasional trip to IKEA, and today we drove to the Elizabeth location for the first time. Most IKEAs are similar in their offerings, but I'd say this one felt a little less nice and maybe a little smaller than the Red Hook counterpart. My biggest gripe with this location is the cafeteria. We wanted to enjoy our Sunday lunch here, and with not even that many people in line.... Maybe seven families ahead of us. We waited for more than thirty minutes!!! More than thirty minutes in line for cafeteria style plating - precooked food that is scooped onto a tray. The people serving were beyond slow, chatting among themselves, and so so so inefficient. It had been more than 5 years since I've eaten at IKEA. The food itself is very good for what it is. There's something comforting about eating peas, mashed potatoes, and meatballs with gravy. Under-seasoned in the best way? I wonder if the cafeteria is always that slow or if it was an off day. Get the pear soda! read more

We stopped by this location before heading home to get a snack. The store was huge and had a similiar layout to other IKEAs. You can walk through the showroom or go straight to the restaurant or warehouse. We stopped by at the restaurant before visiting the showroom. The line to be served was empty and there were a few people eating. We ordered our food and the server gave my friends extra meatballs without them asking. We assumed because they were closing within the hour. When we went to pay, we noticed the cashier charged us for the extra meatballs even though we didn't ask for it. My friend enjoyed their cake and meatballs. I was a bit disappointed with the chicken tenders. The meat is now processed and had that spongy meat compound texture instead of the whole white meat option they used to have. The food was lukewarm but it was filling and affordable for the cost. I am disappointed that the quality of the chicken tenders has gone down because that was my favorite thing to get here. read more

Was rather dismayed by the quality of the food. Ikea has long since been one of my favorite spots to eat, but this time did not live up to my expectations. Not sure if the meatball recipe has changed, but it did not taste the same to me. The gravy carried the dish, but its efforts were hampered by it being rather watery. The mashed potatoes were good, but sadly my peas were clearly from an old batch- they had that greyish-yellowish green color you see in school cafeterias. This Ikea machine works flawlessly. It's 100% automated. I took the measurements for a rather long metal patio table from the site. The package came in two boxes, one twice as long as the other. The long one would fit exactly in my Genesis GV70 by tilting the front seat to the front and moving it fwd. I slid that package in the back and it stopped such that the hatch door should close perfectly. Precisely. I was also very impressed with the fact that it had been picked and packed, and laid on a wheeled cart, ready when promised. I rolled it to my vehicle, opened the hatch, popped it into place, closed the hatch which the long box snuggly in place, and drove home more in love with IKEA. This location has the added benefit of being located in an Urban Enterprise Zone (Elizabeth) which allows IKEA to only charged a reduced sales tax rate of 3.3125%. That's why you may end up seeing people from PA or NY drive to this location, especially if they're ordering several furniture items. With that said, this is your typical IKEA. Crazy enough, there used to be super long lines and next to no parking available. However, I recently visited on a Saturday and saw more than plenty parking spots available. Not much has changed in IKEA world over the years. Some of the infamous products still exist in 2024, You still have to walk through the entirety of the showroom and the market hall to get to the end. Customer service is scant at best. There is self checkout now - wahoo. Other than that, don't expect anything earth shattering from here. read more

Weekends are just a little crazy . it takes a longggggg time for billing.. service could be better.. we love the marketplace and lighitng sections.. you can just pick up stuff from marketplace and bill them directly. There is also a AS-IS section with good discounts.. No returns on AS-IS.. They have a restaurant , but the food is average. not much tasty, but for the price its fine. Easily the worst IKEA I have been to and I have been to 6 different locations (in CA, WA, MA, NJ & NY). We used to come here when we lived here 10 years ago when we lived in NJ- we came back this time because our daughter is going to be going to college in NY. I remember enjoying the food experience because you could watch the planes take off at EWR and the food was tasty and inexpensive - a nice side treat for us historically- this was no treat. The workers clearly are unhappy and do not care about service at all. I felt bad for them. There was one woman serving the line with a huge back up of about 15 families (on a weekday where it was not crowded) - we were all looking at each other and raising our eyebrows lol. There were so many workers passing by with a flat look on their face who were not interested in helping out or even remotely seeming to feel pride in their work/ work ethic. They either did not like this older European woman working the line so refused to work alongside her (?) or really just hate their jobs and service in general. It seems like this is a miserable place to work and the vibe permeates the place. This is the first time I have gone to ikea and was disappointed in the experience. This place is 100% designed by a mad scientist who likes making mazes for rats. Even with the maps and signs for directions, you'll be confused where the exit is. This place is really expansive with 2 massive floors and will feel like an infinite loop if you don't pay attention. I heard this was a superstore with lots to offer home/apartment shopping. Be prepared to spend many hours here, and I can see why they have a restaurant and food on every floor. As for their famous Swedish meatballs I wasn't fully impressed. The meatballs were a bit dry and tasteless. Everything else was good. Once you walk into the place you loose all your bearings, and wonder if you are lost. Just follow the arrows on the floor. Eventually you will make it to the registers. I was surprised that some of the items were not fully stocked. So what do you do? I HIGHLY suggest doing an online order then picking it up if possible. Sometimes you need the showroom to see what you would like to buy. Their showroom is located upstairs. Take pictures of the tags (name and code). It's only in the last few years that I've discovered the joys of a trip to IKEA. I guess that's a sign of adulthood. I found this particular location to be a bit underwhelming. It has the signature pathway through the store that takes you from living room to bedroom to kitchen, etc. However, I found that the staged rooms were quite cramped and a bit messy. It felt inefficient to have to walk through every nook and cranny to see the full inventory. In general, I wasn't impressed with their selection of sectional couches and other seating. I will say, they do have a cool closet creation service. You can use the computers in store to fully customize what type of storage you want and then you can purchase your selections online or get a QR code texted to you to buy later. This store also has a great cafeteria. The food was better than expected. I had previously tried their veggie meatballs and they were just okay. This time around, I tried the plant balls with mac and cheese and cranberry sauce. Everything was very tasty. The mac and cheese looks like Kraft but it's way better with sharper cheese. I felt like I was eating my holiday dinner early. It was awesome that all the food was reasonably priced and they had a good selection of condiments. They also have a frozen food section. I bought some of the plant-based meat and made a really delicious bolognese sauce with it at home. I also got pre-mixed frozen fruit for smoothies. I've been to Ikea once in my life when I had no goals or end game. Now, that I am moving into my own place, I need a lot and needed inspiration. When coming to Ikea, be sure you have extra time, clear your whole day if you must. I would first like to say how I like how Ikea gives me inspiration and ideas of how I want to remodel my bedroom. There are so many room combos and color schemes that I had saw here to give me a light bulb above my head. Each bedroom had its own style and I appreciated it a lot coming from a person who can be super indecisive. Each section is labeled and there are multiple maps posted so you will know which area to go to and what's upcoming. So basically how it works is for the bigger items like whichever furniture you want to purchase, you must take a pic of the tag and go straight to #21 and look for the aisle and bin #. It might not be in the aisle so you would need to look on the middle floor to see if they have it displayed The only downside to Ikea is that it could get a little confusing because I was trying to find a certain aisle but it wasn't as clear on the maps as I would like it to be. Not only that, but I've noticed they are a bit short staffed when it came to their employers. I had to actually hunt down the first person I saw who had worked there. The employers I had met were pretty nice but it was just a hassle to flag one down. The one thing I cannot leave Ikea without having is their swedish meatballs. Be prepared to wait in a very long line in the cafeteria that brings me back to high school days. It gave me the vibes of how I only had 40 mins to eat until the bell rings for next period. The food here is priced fairly cheap and the MEATballs are delicious. I would skip on the plant based ones as they are much saltier than the regulars ones. Overall, my experience was good. I just got sucked in this store for HOURS -- this is not me being dramatic. I came back sweating and my back hurt a bit from the heavy lifting. After looking at the food, I personally knew I didn't want to try it. But my friend is a loyal Ikea Family Member. Literally everything he has ever owned as an adult is from Ikea. This place was his first Ikea disappointment. He told me that he will never be returning to this location and he expressed being bummed out that this location is even an Ikea. I personally wouldn't bother with this location either, except to check out the "As Is" section at the checkout area. The workers were patient working among this inefficient system IKEA has in place. In short, IKEA has nothing more than a facade of efficiency. Use the info booths, to be told you require a worker's assistance. Sign a waiver to enter the aisle to pick up the item but required to sign the same waiver again to purchase the item. The area is blocked. Reverse and speak to another worker who prints you a paper, which you must take to the cashier. Worker reads out loud word for word the waiver you already signed. Automatic cart returning service but after waiting 15 minutes, in the end a worker manually gets you a cart. Walkie talkies used to convey info between workers. The terrible feedback disrupts the messages, so workers must repeat themselves. Tried to refund your item you bought online for pick up. Are told the process is so tangled it would be better just not to show up for pick up and they will automatically cancel and refund you. Feeling bad that some worker will have already found my item and prepared it for pick up just to put it back because no one came for it. Then after you decide to just buy another dresser & personally pick it up, they message you saying the one you bought online is available three hours earlier than they initially told you.... Which means buying in person is rendered pointless. Nothing is intuitive. A faulty system masquerading as a modernized, efficient shop. The workers were all kind and helpful. IKEA, do better for them We came with so much hope today. We left defeated. Additional note. The cart collector at the click&collect zone is working twice as hard as everyone else. I came here the other day specifically to purchase a desk and chair for my new job since I'll be fully remote. I've been here several times for several years but this is my first formal review. I've got stories...many memories here at ikea collected over the years. I really like this place. I find ikea to be my perfect go-to whenever I need certain pieces of furniture and quickly too. I remember coming to ikea when I was pregnant with a couple of my children. My husband and I would pick up a few pieces for the "baby's" room, bring it home, put it together and call it a wrap. My children are older and that furniture has been long trashed. The truth about ikea furniture is that it's cheap and made from some type of "wood" material but definitely not real wood so if that's what you're looking for, this is not for you. It serves it's purpose for a few years maybe a bit longer but definitely not furniture that you keep for longer then that. They have loads and loads of decor and many ideas on how to style/set up your place. You can totally spend hours in their showroom and get lost in their many styles of wonderful decor. They are more then furniture. They have lighting, plants, housewares, some toys, pictures, and oh yea...food and some other things. You may want to check out their cafe while you're there. I really enjoyed the dessert. Mission accomplished! I got my desk and my chair. I'm not saying that all of my furniture is IKEA furniture, but I have a lot of it. If IKEA furniture isn't your thing, they also have paintings, plants, rugs, lamps, and more at affordable prices. Line to get in was insanely long. The line was so long in the parking lot people were filming it. I got there @ 11am & only waited about 20min to get inside. Once inside it was busy with people. I recently visited this location for the first time back in March. It was actually my very first visit to IKEA ever! On this occasion, it was my family and we first toured the show room. We enjoyed seeing all the room set-ups and configurations. Some items were even available for grabbing right off the show room floor. Small items like baby toys, and kitchen stuff. Next we went downstairs to the check out level and that's where you could pull stuff to buy. We didn't quite understand how the whole system worked. Later we realized you had to use the computers to tell you which aisle an item was located and then it got tricky because you needed to either pull it yourself or ask for help. We ended up buying blinds, two kitchenware items and a mirror right off the bat. Then I placed an online delivery order for a bedroom furniture and some storage cases. The online order delivery was extremely convenient and while I was nervous about the delivery company based off of reviews from other people - it went incredibly smoothly. The delivery team wheeled everything right up to my front door and I live in a high rise apartment now. The cafe area was nice and the food court part on the check out level was decent. I'm planning to go again so I can look around for longer without being rushed. read more

This review only pertains to IKEA's return and exchange policies. We bought a pair of Trippevals blinds on April 17, 2019. Their return policy requires a copy of your receipt and the last 4 digits of your card. Their systems is OLD, not like Home Depot or COSTCO. The sign that states, "365, it's ok to change your mind" looks good, but you must SAVE your receipt or you are not allowed to return or exchange it! No wonder their Yelp review is bad. I'd have given this store 5 stars since I live ikea but the two things we went for werent in stock. There were plenty on display in rooms but not available for purchase while we were there. We also tried to sign into out ikea accounts on the computers by the restaurant and it took so long and never did let us sign in to get our card numbers and the last call for the restaurant left us without the option. We bought stuff we didn't need and some cinnamon rolls. That was nice enough. read more
