I am only writing a review on a shopping experience...we didn't eat here. I am often surprised on how many people come to IKEA for lunch. Do people really go here for the Swedish meatballs? Not really my thing. It is OK for the occasional knockoff Mister Softee ice cream cone but not a full meal. Anyway, we made the mistake of coming here on a weekend at mid-day. It took forever to make our way through the baby stroller brigade. However, once through, it was surprising how quickly the check out lines moved. We were able to get out the door in less than 10 minutes and the parking lot was a breeze. Pretty good for IKEA on a weekend and we got a nice sewing table for $79. Score. read more

I used to love this place for simply styled, Swedish looking, cheap home furnishings and ideas. I would have given ikea 4 or even 5 stars however they have fallen off. Sample itms on the floor were not assembled correctly, were wobbly and highlighted how cheaply they were made. The cafe was open but with not many options as advertised no chicken fingers, no chicken wraps and the last chicken wrap they had fell apart in the panini press but was still served to the guy in front of me. After checking out I realized i was overcharged $10 on my $300 purchase and was instructed to go to customer service for an adjustment, I took a number, and waited and waited ... After about 10 mins I got my car unloaded my cart and came back in ... They were still on the same number !!! Really!!! Only one person working who was slow and rude !! Many people waiting, people just hanging out leaving and coming back still to wait more, while management was walking around in the customer service area not doing much. This is unacceptable!! Before you come here you have to understand that you get what you pay for. There are some great deals, but you have to understand that they are not the best quality that will last you years and years. We're not talking heirloom furniture for your kids and grandkids here. This place is best for college students, people who just recently bought their 1st house/renting their 1st apartment and for those on a budget. The 1st part of the area is the showroom. Used to showcase the versatility of the products displayed in enticing ways to make you think gosh I wish my house looked like this. Once you're itching to buy stuff you then walk through the grey path which are painted with black arrows pointing the way...just in case you get lost...this leads you to the merchandise area where you shop, shop, shop to your hearts desire. It's a great marketing strategy. Be careful and read the fine print to determine what it's made of and inspect the item thoroughly to determine if it's worth that $3.99 tag...etc. After this you reach the self service furniture area and cashier. There are 2 dining areas. On the 2nd floor is where you have sit in dining and 1st floor after the cashier is where you buy food to go. I usually come to ikea to get design ideas. They really know how to arrange their stuff but I don't buy the furniture since I'd rather pay a pretty penny for quality stuff. But I'll pick up a dust pan or some tea candles along the way. Then I check out the dining area on 2nd floor and get myself some Swedish meatballs. I must say those things are delicious. They serve it up with cranberry sauce and mashed potatoes. They also serve wraps, fish, soup, salad and a kids menu. There's dessert and unlimited soda. The food is good enough for the cheap price. Don't forget to buy some cinnamon rolls or a frosty on your way out of the store. If it's your first time try not to come here on the weekends. It gets packed and you might get overwhelmed with navigating yourself around this maze of a store while dodging other people. It was the worst customer service that I have ever had! The lady had such bad attitude talking over the phone and did not address my concerns at all! Also it led to me canclleing the items. The refund process is not easy and friendly. I received notice via email saying that some items are not availabe and will refund me in a gift card. WHO WANTS GIFT CARD???I need my money back! So I followed the instructions and replied to the customer service email asking for refund in original form of payment. Two weeks later, still no response. So when I need some furniture thats cheap and cool looking, i just drive on the great NJ Turnpike to Exit 13A. Its there that you'll find the greatness that is IKEA. I know what you're thinking: Elizabeth, new jersey?????? thats what I say, but do as I do and cover your nose and just duck inside the store. Upstairs is all the furniture, beds, bookshelfs, chairs, and everything else imaginable. Downstairs is the Marketplace, where you'll find lamps, placemats, window shades, etc. Problem is, this location has a big habit of running out of items. Alot of the time. But at least you can check the website to see if the product you want is in stock at the particular store you want to go to. Believe me, its a trip saver using that website. But i come anyway, if not for the cinnamon buns but for the delicious swedish meatballs. I can eat those all day, and I know I ate them for 30 minutes today. I can live on those meatballs every day, every week, every year. I'll be a walking Swedish meatball if i have to, i dont care. I like ikeas, I don't really like this one. It can be a bit of sh*t show. Especially on the weekends. IKEA is infamous for their cafeterias and this one is not one of the best ones. Food is always cold, service is mediocre and freshness is hard to find. The soft serve on the way out is good. The hot dogs and pizza taste like plastic, do don't recommend it. Their soft serve drinks are "weird" and not name brand. Their selection at this location is huge but it's usually a mess. I try to avoid this place on the weekends, it's extra messy and disorganized. It's a huge store, it's a given, but this one is always a big mess. Staff is hard to find and if you do they're usually not that helpful. THe market place at the end is filled with broken items and unpriced product. I'm not a big fan of this location, but I do go here because it's close and has the essentials. I've shopped in Ikea in Germany, Italy, Turkey, UK and Switzerland. All have been pleasant. But, the US store in Elizabeth! Terrible customer service, returns take forever! I'm currently waiting since an hour, and I still have 12 people in front of me. The cashiers went down to 2, with a manager trying to also help. They'll fall apart within a year or two. If you're a fixer upper, stop by the "as-is" section in the warehouse. You'll find tons of furniture in all conditions. Some of the items require a slight repair while others need a complete over haul. The store is always packed but the checkout lines move relatively quickly. Each register is surrounded by last minute finds that you may have missed while shopping. It's nice to look at those items while you wait for the next available cashier. read more

This particular location was conveniently located on the turnpike, which I suppose could account for the large amount of people flocking in there. This is also a lot smaller than other ikea spots I've been to. Typical home goods stuff for a fairly reasonable price inside. And their infamous meatballs is on sale for the week! Shelves were stocked full, with the exception of the Expedit 4x4 shelving, being discontinued, had only about 15-20 boxes left in stock. I have a confession: i love IKEA food. Mystery meatballs, steamed carrots, chicken tenders and all! Honestly though, putting this in context of dirt cheap, mass produced food, it's pretty amazing. The kinds of things available are mostly Scandinavian/Swedish, and even their pre-plated dishes taste fresh, probably because they are rotated out constantly by never ending lines of hungry customers flocking for post furniture haul eats. The Swedish meatballs with lingonberry sauce is a must, and don't forget to try the lingonberry or elderflower juice boxes. Also they have pretty good smoked salmon and weirdly addicting fries and chicken tenders. In terms of their furniture, those price really can't be beat. The quality can definitely vary depending on the item, but my purchases as far as cabinets, beds, and lamps go have all lasted for years and years. This store has cleverly been designed so that you basically have to walk through the entire store to reach the exit, forcing one to take a look at each and every section of their goodies. Also, for big furniture you have to take down information about the pieces you're interested in and pick them up at the end of the winding path--the warehouse. You WILL feel like a mouse in a maze during the course of your visit, but you will also leave as a full and happy mouse. read more

My overall experience was OK with IKEA. I went on a long holiday weekend and while we felt it was busy, it didn't feel ridiculously crowded. I assumed people were enjoying the beaches or bbqs rather than perusing furniture. So I can't attest to the crowds or slow service. I can agree that people love to bring their families here for a weekend of shopping and cheap meals, so there are a lot of young children running around without much supervision -- not really a fault of IKEA though. Hold onto glassware tightly or put them into those light yellow bags the employees offer you when you walk in! Also since it wasn't a typical busy weekend, the cashier lines were short. We were able to walk right up and be rung up within a couple minutes. Workers were friendly and helpful. We walked all around -- sometimes feels like a big maze -- and when we asked for help a couple times from different staff members, they were quick to help and direct us. My favorite part of IKEA is really browsing around and getting renovation/decoration ideas, plus finding cheaper items like a sink/vanity. So far when I have bought something from IKEA, I got it delivered to the home, which went smoothly. Will need to do a future update when I get furniture directly from the store. read more

I am an absolute fan of IKEA. This is the worst location I have ever been to. Three items I wanted were out of stock. Stuff was just everywhere and dirty! The customer service in the cafe was beyond poor and the usual presentation of food was lacking and messy. I know this is a high volume store but when you have customers standing in line for thirty minutes and you have less than half your registers open on a Saturday night this is a serious issue. I used the returns and exchanges, the girl who helped me was great but the line was over thirty minutes as well. Only an average of two employees working. I always feel like a mouse in a maze every time I enter IKEA. The way the store has to be navigated has a numbing effect. However this mega store has everything you need to make your apartment look awesome even though assembling all that furniture can be a pain in the neck. Picture frames, towels, exotic plants, LED lamps, even band-aids for kids. The spectrum of things you can buy here is quite extensive. After walking for about an hour, if you are lucky, you might get a free sample of Swedish meatballs. Not a big fan though. The customer service is almost nonexistent as other people pointed out. They don't really like to engage in a conversation about IKEA products. On a positive note, they have tons of people on register which speeds up checkout. With some exceptions, I don't make my major furniture purchases at IKEA anymore - I feel like that was more for my younger/student days, and now I'd rather save up to spend a bit more on a real wood piece that will last longer; however, I still get a lot of decorative or household basics at IKEA. And it's the best place to walk around and get decorating ideas! I would definitely consider coming here for new kitchen cabinets and/or closet organizing systems though, when I get it together enough to be ready to do that! Shopping at IKEA is one of the most stressful, time-consuming, and all around crappiest experiences in life. I'm giving them a generous two stars because I'm not gonna lie, their prices are practically impossible to beat. Many of their products look really good. And in all honesty, if everything works out as it should and there are no problems with your order, then IKEA is actually not bad at all. But the reality is that things don't always go as expected. And sadly, as soon as there's any kind of hiccup or you need to talk to customer service for any reason, that's when things fall apart and you regret shopping here at all. We've been burnt this way several times. Most recently, we purchased an entire set of kitchen cabinets. For starters, there was some kind of miscommunication between IKEA and the delivery company, XPO Logistics (a horrible company, to be avoided at all cost). Our delivery was missed, despite all the planning with our building and working from home. After an entire day of trying to get on the phone with IKEA and actually going back there in person, they finally rescheduled another delivery. This time, not all of the parts arrived, so we had to go back to the store and spent close to three hours waiting and talking to customer service. They finally gave us the missing doors and shelves, but didn't bother to compensate us for the massive inconvenience and wasted time. Horrendous customer service aside, the quality of IKEA products is pretty close to the bottom of the barrel. You can tell from the cross sections of the cabinets that they used the cheapest possible material. The stuff isn't meant to last, either. One of the cabinets got scratched just from the delivery. read more

This Ikea is the 6th circle of hell. Honestly, every time I come here I say I will never be back, and I think I mean it this time. The service is basically non existent. We almost bought a kitchen here and the people in that department were as useful as flip flops in the Arctic. So we walked away from that, glad we did. And honestly, the people that come here are equally as awful, standing in the middle of the aisle, blocking all passageways and just zero social awareness. It's chaos in the marketplace and in the showroom, you will get bumped into or slammed into at least 3-4 times per visit. The carts, ALL of them are broken and veer on an angle, they are awful your arms will be tired from trying to take turns or keep it straight. It's like driving a car without power steering. Overall, go to another one, any other one. The only reason this one gets 2 stars is the 3.5% sales tax. read more

It's SOO overly crowded and half the time the escalator is broken so you either have to walk up the stairs or wait in a long long line for the elevator. I do love IKEA in all it's convenience. Their furniture is cheap and easy to put together. The "dining area" is super jammed packed full of kids all the time! This place is always a freaking zoo. You do have to be careful to pick the better quality furniture as some can be quite cheap. To date, we haven't had any problems with any of our purchases and are quite happy with them. Very helpful employees and I love walking through the staged rooms to see the possibilities and "what-ifs" of IKEA furniture. We found a nice pine 4-6 person dining room table, chairs and buffet for our new place. Love the brown-gray color. They didn't have a lot else in that color wood, which is too bad because it's a great color that's in-between the dark brown-blacks and the too-pale natural wood. The color goes with everything and looks excellent in our dining room. We also picked up an all-glass curio cabinet, which, upon assembly, seems a little too flimsy for an entirely glass piece of furniture. I'm just waiting for our cats to somehow knock it over. Pillow and carpet selection was lacking though, we were definitely was disappointed by that. I love how they map everything out for you, from choosing the right light bulb for one of their lamps, to showing how a bookcase/display/storage cube can be modified to your taste-- either placed on the floor, hung on the wall, or add some wheels and now it rolls! IKEA is really furniture for dummies, but it's also furniture for capable do-it-yourselfers. You HAVE to be able to figure out how to assemble something entirely based on pictures. You also have to be able to locate the furniture in their storage area and lift it onto your cart with 3 broken wheels without killing yourself or someone else. It's a challenge, but that's part of what makes it fun and affordable. IKEA is not for the meek or timid (I have to lift THAT onto my cart?! I have to assemble WHAT?) and that's why we love it. read more

As just a furniture store, I am not sure whether I would give IKEA 4 or 5 stars. Throw in all the food extras along the way and you definitely have a store I am a fan of. IKEA is large. Some people will have a great time wandering around and perusing all of the selections. Not me; I grab the map at the beginning. Be aware that you do not grab your furniture at the display areas. Instead, you write down the code for your item and track it down in the warehouse section on the 1st floor. It is a pretty smart idea as you are not bogged down by large items from the beginning. Near the checkout there is an as is section. Here there are furniture and other household items with varying degrees of marks or damages. You might find a great deal there if a scratch or gash in your couch does not phase you. You know what I like though? 50 cent hot dogs after the checkout counter! That and all the Swedish drinks and foods. It is something different, and I like that! read more

There is a lot of poor management and organization. I helped a friend purchase a bed and bed accessories. The bed came in two boxes and the bed slats came in two boxes. There were no signs mentioning that they came in two boxes. This resulted us making multiple trips to ikea and running around talking with management in order for us to get the missing halves. The Brooklyn ikea has clear obvious signs that "This product has two boxes". read more

Don't waste your time or money at this IKEA location. I'm a huge fan of IKEA products. Between the extremely slow service and the lack of communication and care for the costumers, you would be better served spending the time going to a different location. I would've gave 0 stars, but one star simply because they had the actual product in stock that I wanted to purchase. However, I waited 2.5+ hours for the Click and collect services after being told that my wait time was only 43 minutes when logging into the app. Then being told that my order was "being started" on two separate occasions over 30 minutes apart... Thankfully Ariel stepped in and was able to take care of our order in less than 10 mins after we were supposed to be the next order being grabbed, for the third time, and multiple people received their items in between. Ariel was professional and gave us specific answers about the order instead of saying a generic statement to just get us to go away and wait in the car as other employees were telling customers...
