Very bad shopping experience and very unhelpful chat with store management. I was in IKEA to purchase a table and 6 chairs. I wanted a table that was $220.00. I spent an hour looking at tables and matching the perfect table with the perfect chairs. I checked to make sure the table was available but when I went to purchase it, it wasn't available even though the computer said its in stock. I then went back and looked at two other tables in the same price range. I decided to take another table and was helped by one of your store people...box 3 was missing so I couldn't get that table. I chose another table and box 2 was missing. Your employee said that he checked and couldn't find the missing pieces. I then had to pick another table that was $329.00, a hundred more than I wanted to spend. I asked to speak with a manager and your employee went to find someone and came back saying that he talked to a manager who said that there wasn't anything she could do for us. (no apology) I checked out with my items and asked the checkout person to find a manager for me to speak with. 30 mins later someone showed up and I explained my shopping adventure at your store. She said that my story was helpful and she would express it to the furniture people upstairs. WHY DO YOU SHOW FURNITURE ON THE FLOOR THAT ISN'T AVAILABLE AND HASN'T BEEN IN WEEKS? My second choice table had "quality issues" so it wasn't available. WHY WAS IT STILL ON THE FLOOR IF I CAN'T BUY IT? Worst shopping experience EVER!! NO apology, no store credit. Mobility challenged customers stay away. IKEA does not accommodate. I had surgery on 8/1 and had been cooped up in the hospital then house for over 2 weeks. My daughter invited me to get out of the house, drive down to Ikea with her. I hesitated because I know the long haul it is to get through an entire store. But I thought, yeah I'll go, grab a mobility cart on the way in and tool around with her while we enjoyed our day. Get there, to find out they don't offer them. WHAT? Everywhere offers them!? What do you mean you don't? The guy at the door tells me they have wheelchairs, but only 2 and the one "my size" is in use. My size? Oh, the wider one... cuz I'm a large woman. Got it. Deal is, I could've fit fine in the regular wheelchair, but there isn't a cart attached to it. So the person pushing me, couldn't push a cart too. Oh, I failed to mention, my daughter is 8.5mo pregnant and I wasn't about to have her push me. We chose to drive from Marysville to Tukwila to shop their store, take the day, have lunch, spend money, share the scooter between me recovering from surgery and my pregnant daughter. BOTTOM LINE... IKEA should consider accommodations for those shoppers with mobility issues, whether it is permanent or temporary. BAD display. read more

I know it's not IKEA's fault, but they don't have anything in stock right now. This part of the review is less about giving it stars or not giving it stars and more about letting people know that they should set their expectations low right now. Covid is affecting the supply chain, so like I said, not their fault. The main thing that I am reviewing, is their employees. There was an entire family walking around and none of them were masked. I I politely asked if they would put on their masks and they refused. So I went up to an employee and politely asked her if she could ask the family to mask. She nodded at me and continued working, so I pointed the family out to her and said "that family right there." At that point she rolled her eyes at me. I saw another employee ahead, so I asked her to ask the family to put on their masks. She ran right up to them and they put on their masks. So I went back to the first employee to find out what her name was. When she snottily asked why, I said, "because I'd like to report you for not asking the family to mask." And she said "go ahead bitch." By the way, her name is JADE. Some may say that I was being a Karen, but the truth is, we are in the middle of a pandemic and the Delta variant is serious (even if some ignorant people believe otherwise) and there are a lot of people here shopping that are elderly and immunocompromise. No such thing as "making a quick stop to IKEA". I think they made a meme on that too somewhere on the web. I believe it's the only IKEA in Washington so it's always busy no matter what, if you go on a weekend, forget about having any other plans. I think ever since they move into the new building and used the old one was an extra parking lot, it has been better. Before, you would have to park offsite, take a shuttle, if you buy anything which most likely it's too big to fit on the shuttle, you have to shuttle back to grab you car and pick up your items from will call. A lot of damn work. I'm not going to lie, I come here for the Swedish meatballs. Like no furniture purchases, just straight to their cafeteria. It's only $5 for a whole plate of 6 meatballs, mashed potatoes, veggies, and cranberry sauce. Yum, yum, yum. I don't like how their new layout for this store is, it's like a long ass nonstop walk on the track mill, I think they purposely did that so you can pass by every single department to look at and buy more. I think they still have their daycare center to babysit your kids while you're shopping. IKEA is known for cheap, perfect for when you're a college student. They don't come with assembling, but I believe there's an option to pay an extra fee to get that service. I highly recommend you just finding male friends to help with the tedious procedure. There's step by step instructions, but it gives me a headache looking at it. Guys on Tindr, this would be an easy chance for you to get invited over if you offer up to help with the assembling, too bad most of us don't fall for it anymore. I know that I shouldn't expect much from a restaurant in a furniture store, but really? With the new store I was willing to try again for the benefit of the doubt, maybe since they redid it it would work out some major kinks in the previous store. Overhyped, overcrowded and overused. I know that the restaurant is iconic of the store, but that just makes it all the worse. It's like they know it's a novelty so they don't have to try as hard to please people because they're going to get people's money anyway. Staff was rude and inconsiderate. Food was 3 star at best (some of it dry, some of it bland, just not good) and it sort of destroys it when there's so many people in the lines and in the sitting area. Just save your money and go to a good Scandinavian restaurant, or just get a fast food something if your out on a shopping trip. This place is HUGE. I could easily get lost. The signs above pointed the way to the exit.. only thing is it pointed to the emergency exit. The employee that helped me was not stoked about helping me. She never smiled a bit until the supervisor came around then she was trying to crack jokes. If you have never shopped at an Ikea then best to get help! Trying to find the bigger products could be tricky. So three stars for poor service and the exit being difficult to find. Also the instructions to put my bed frame together was only pictures. Just one thing. DON'T SHOP FROM HERE. Had the worst experience. We paid $89 and did a home delivery for our 2 bed frames and a dresser, 2 items were missing. When I called the customer service, they told me that the missing items weren't available at the moment and no one thought it was important to let me know. Had to come to the store and get my refund. Stopped in to make a return/exchange & everyone I encountered was super helpful. I had a bit of a special request & Michael & Angela at the delivery desk were very accommodating. Both were super patient & I'm very thankful because everything worked out! Even my cashier gal [Monica?] went above & beyond to get m the correct item after I picked up the wrong one. Whoa the new IKEA is HUGE!! It's has an awesome cafe ( larger than the old one), but same old delicious, salty meatballs(however they are not round anymore- kind is squarish)- idk maybe the meatball machine changed?? Odd, but still taste the same. They also did have some decent vegetarian options as well. Nice spacious area to eat with really large tables if you come with a large group. You can easily spend hours here. Looking at the displays and I buying everything you don't need. My kids were exhausted by the time we were done. Only downside is the parking....again. I don't know if they are planning on fixing it, but good luck when it's packed finding one. You'll be too tired to shop by the time you find one and walk to the building. Especially on the weekends. Every time I come here, the checkout lines get longer and longer. Seemingly IKEA are oblivious to this. I'm typing this while waiting in line right now. It's been 20mins to here and I'm maybe halfway to the checkout. Approx 1/4 of the available checkouts are in operation. The rest are closed. All the available lines are backed up into the self-serve furniture area. Whoever is managing this store is simply not bothered it would appear. read more

What the hell is this place? There are three things I would rather do right now than visit Ikea at any point in my life on this good Earth and its deteriorating crust: 1.) Screw drills through the bottom of every one of my toes. 2.) Listen to Ying Yang Twins played backwards. 3.) Crap out of my vagina. For how much they push their family-oriented agendas from their Ikea family cards, Ikea family loyalty program, and family-sized meatballs, Ikea is synonymous with relationship suicide. The freak show that is the Ikea store is riddled with couples because the frequency of which your significant other or spouse brings you to Ikea as some recreational activity is directly proportional to how much they hate you. It took us half an hour to get to the point in the store where they have any fucking picture frames, the only thing for which we were shopping. In that half hour, we listened to over a handful of conversations that all mimicked each other. Most of them led by a woman, who's dragging her spouse with his balls no longer intact, wondering if some no-brand refrigerator has a freezer big enough to fit all of her breastmilk. If not freshly married couples, then it's straight-up freshmen who are unknowingly about to delve into a world of self-consciousness, no-strings-attached sex, and textbook debts, who all debate whether or not the dresser is worth buying depending on how much their budget permits after buying five bottles of Fireball. At one point, some 56 show rooms deep, I wondered if they sold Swedish bazookas on their menu as a complimentary dessert with purchase of their spaghetti and meatballs. That wouldn't be too far from the level of insensitivity as subjecting consumers to the furniture journey erected from hell. You can't get out until you've looked at everything Ikea has in their stores like herding hundreds of robotic sheep, from their Swedish armoires and dressers, to packaged Swedish cookie wafers, to their Swedish plush toys. It's hard to rate IKEA, for me. I like many of the things you can find here. I like minimalist and modern style. I like some of the art pieces. I like a wide variety of pretty much everything they carry ..to a point. I don't think I could ever "complete" a room in IKEA. Too sterile, and quotes from "Fight Club" may echo so loudly through my interior that I would 'splode. And then I hit the wall of the 'Ikea way". I loathe big 'box' stores. I hate big 'parking lots of death' (see also: costco). I don't like being told what to do (see blue directional arrows). I'm not a huge fan of the 'build it yourself" thing. Mainly because I have no problems doing it, but I've seen SOoooo many people completely fail at it, and end up with really crappy looking stuff. But for a day of looking around, goofing off, and hanging out...it wasn't a bad thing to have visited IKEA for the second time in my life. Totally biased because I used to work there but there are a few things that need to be said that I wasn't allowed to say while employed there! Haha! Seriously though, here's my step by step guide to enjoying yourself in IKEA Seattle. 1. There are arrows on the floor for a reason. Follow them. You will be safe and see everything. 2. There are signs for a reason. Should you choose to deviate from the aforementioned arrows, please opt to read the signs around you. They will point you to ANYWHERE you need to go. 3. You get what you pay for. If you really want to buy a $20 desk, you are going to get A DESK THAT IS WORTH no more than $20. Please don't tell me IKEA only sells crap, because you obviously didn't look beyond the single digit prices. 4. One of IKEA's highest priorities is environmental responsibility. So to anyone who blithely assumes IKEA uses child labor, please know that you are deeply offending anyone who has ever been associated with the company. Yes, I know they don't brag about what they've done but after all... Once you start to brag about doing things (that everyone with a conscience should be doing anyway) aren't you in the end only doing it so that everyone knows you are? And not because you should? Ever wondered what to do with old batteries and flourescent lightbulbs? IKEA will recycle them for you! If only everyone worked as hard as IKEA (The Seattle one in particular) does to recycle and promote greener living. 5. IKEA Seattle took over an old Boeing warehouse. They had no control over the building layout, parking lots or one-story-ness of the building. They've done the best they can given their resources. Being one of the few one-story IKEA's in the world, this is also one of the only ones in which you can bring a cart into the Showroom area. This is mostly why it is so hard to get around inside. As in all corporate businesses, they have to abide by a certain business plan, and that plan did not account for shopping carts in the first half of the store. If attempting IKEA for the first time, try the first half with only one of the large yellow shopping bags that are provided for you! It makes things SO much easier! Shopping carts are well stocked at the halfway mark through the store, right where MarketHall begins and all of those small items that you need a cart for begin to be stocked! 6. Every 50 feet or so you will find a stand with pencils and a shopping list. Take one! Everything in the first half of the store is a display model and will have a tag on it that will tell you exactly how to purchase this item. But if you don't write it down, you WILL forget by the time you get to the end of the store where most items are stocked. Whether it be "See a coworker", "You'll find me in Aisle ## / Bin ## of the Self Serve Warehouse", or "Out Of Stock" everything you need to know if on the tag. Apparently Europeans don't enjoy having to talk to salespeople and IKEA was designed around this concept. You don't EVER have to talk to anyone in that store if you don't want to. (But if you do, you'll meet some really cool people!) 7. The Self Serve Warehouse is a pain, please be patient. The Logistics coordinators at IKEA try very hard to make sure that anything heavy is located on bottom shelves and are easily accessible but that doesn't always happen. The coworkers that work in the warehouse are USUALLY happy to help with anything, but if you can lift your items on your own, please do. And if at all possible, bring friends/family to help you when you're outfitting your whole house, these boxes can be heavy and awkward! Your trip will be SO much more enjoyable if you don't have to run around to find an employee every 50 yards to help you lift something. :) 8. The restaurant at the center of the store and the cafe at the end are invaluable tools for a day trip to IKEA! Utilize them! I love their vegetarian lasagna and when the head chef is away they make a chicken cordon bleu that is to-die-for! They aren't very good for vegans as of yet, but there is always a constant push to adapt their menu. 9. Like something? Don't? Use the comment cards! Four or five places throughout the store supply large stacks of forms to fill out about your experience and a little suggestion box to put them in! The comment cards are taken very seriously so rest assured that your opinions will be heard. And don't be afraid to let someone know if an employee really helped you out or was just plain awesome! Employees do get recognized for positive customer feedback! It's a shame that we live in a world where most people will take the time to tell a company about the bad experiences they have, but to tell someone about the good is too much of a hassle. I have a love hate attitude with IKEA, but mostly hate. I love the items you carry and their prices but I HATE the customer service when checking out/paying. Yesterday, I visited the Renton, WA store at 11 am on a Wednesday. When I went to check out there was at least 20 customers waiting in each of the 4 lines that were open. Out of the 29 cash registers you have available, only 4 were open? My suggestion would be to spend less money on cash register lines and spend more money on hiring cashiers. Or possibly develop a policy where you open more register lines when there is more than 5 people in line like other great businesses in the area. I saw many employees wandering in the inventory warehouse areas and greeting customers but assisting customers to pay for their items should be more important than those jobs, at that moment. My experience paying is the last memory I have of my experience there and it was an awful one. I suspect that other customers are left with the same PTSD as I. I waited over 25 minutes just to pay for my items! That's ridiculous. I thought about just setting my stuff down and leaving on multiple occasions over the course of that 25 minutes but I kept asking myself "what if its only 5 more minutes?" And this isn't the first time its happened, its every time! Many other customers around me expressed similar complaints. It reminds me why I only shop here twice a year and I've worked less than a block away for 5 years! I would go to IKEA way more if it was a convenient shopping experience. I really think Customer Service is key nowadays, especially since stores like Marshalls, Ross and Home Goods sell similar products and for a comparable price. And don't even get me started about your no free bag policy. But then you tempt customers with little things to pick up and buy while they wait in line. If they want to carry it out, they are forced to purchase your $2 bag or Hansel & Gretel it out to their car. Maybe offer your bags for free with over a $100 purchase instead? I left extremely annoyed, stuff spilling out of my arms and a desire to never return. Please fix your policies on how customers pay for their items. read more

I'd never been to an IKEA before moving this way a few months back. But now that I've been there several times, I can see what all the hype is. They have a lot of interesting stuff and pretty decent prices. The shopping experience is kind of weird though. I felt like a lab rat in a maze specially designed to extract maximum dollars from my wallet. Also the names of products are quite amusing. I nearly dagstroped in my fyrkantygs when I saw the sheer number of knutstorps over by the wall of smorbölls! Good news though. This weekend my girlfriend and I put two pieces of Ikea furniture together with only a few curse words, minimal fighting and almost no hurt feelings. That's actually an improvement for us! read more

Ikea has always been such a confusing store from start to finish to navigate through. I absolutely love it and hate it at the same time. It's like a death trap you have to go through because they have so many different items to choose from but the maze kinda leaves you dizzy. I figure it's a trick because once you get to check out you have a sense of accomplishment. But don't hold your breath for too long because once you get home you have to assemble all of it. But why do I really love ikea? The price on items is very appealing! Also, at the end you can treat yourself to a delicious treat in the marketplace. IKEA - The lights distracted me - Furniture Stores Near Me - Renton, Washington

Absolutely horrible customer service. Came by on a Monday afternoon to return something, and man was that the biggest hassle I've ever experienced. You have to take a number for a return. Ok. They were on #87 when we arrived, and we were #96. 40 MINUTES. 40! That is absolutely insane to get through that minimal amount of returns. The 2 girls working in that area were slow, lazy and extremely rude. Adri is horribly slow and doesn't have a care in the world. I witnessed 4 other people in addition to myself complaining to management about the process, wait time, and lack of productivity by the staff. Everyone is sitting on the couches they provide for you to wait just checking the time on their phones, and watching literally 6 other staff members just standing around while 2 are actually working. If you can even call it working. One of the girls doing returns was just leaning on the counter clicking through the computer for a good 5 minutes before paging the next number up. That is unacceptable. The managers that we spoke to said the 2 girls at customer service were the only people qualified for returns. What. You're a manager. Go get on the POS and HELP THE CUSTOMERS. And don't raise your voice at me when I am being calm - trust me, you are lucky I was calm after wasting an hour of my time to return a freaking garbage can because none of the bags I bought (I bought 4 different kinds) fit over the stupid top part without ripping the bags it was so wide. Customers are what give you your job - maybe you should care about them a little more. Even Walmart has finally figured it out! I just bought a new house and was excited to buy a bunch of furniture and decor from here - but F that. I'm terrified I'll have to return something and have to deal with that BS again. read more

I love this place! I just redecorated my whole living room and got some extra stuff I "needed". Here's a list of what I got and just for fun, try guess the total before you get to the end: Coffee table TV stand Side/end table Table lamp w/bulbs Vase 2 fake flowers Candle plate 3 scented candles 4 round mirrors Dishes (set of 18) Utensil tray Package of a bunch of cute chopsticks 4 Mugs 4 towels 4 pillows Magazine rack 3 bathroom hooks (to replace the nails I was using as hooks) 8 Tea light holders I wasn't paying attention to how much I was spending. Rather, I was just throwing things into those huge yellow IKEA bags. We walked out with 4 of them FULL plus stuff in my hands plus 3 huge boxes. We budgeted $500 and I guessed about $380 since I did hold back a bit. But, guess how much it was? $225!!!!!!! All of that for $225! Ha. Seriously. And guess what? There's an IKEA in Portland now if you want to drive south a bit and skip out on sales tax. IKEA, you're the shit. read more

Roll back the clock to ye old 1999. As a freshman in college, I needed cheap furniture to fill my tiny studio apartment in Berkeley. Where do you get cheap college furniture? Ikea! This place was a godsend back then. Offering really dirt cheap "designer" furniture and Swedish meatballs, IKEA won my heart over. Fast forward to 2008. The IKEA guy is one of the richest men in the world. I'm not a starving college student anymore, but I've been conditioned over the years to love the meatballs and occasionally buy real furniture from IKEA. But something is always a bit off about this place now. Yes, my taste has improved since college but I also feel like the overall quality has gone down due to cost savings. I sold a few of my old IKEA shoe racks and the older ones used much better wood than the current ones. Most of the time I get something now I tend to regret it afterward... but old habits are hard to break. I would normally give this place a two star review, but the bug-infested bamboo palm plant you sold me is a big FAIL. I had a big, costly misunderstanding with the bed-furniture personnel. I had just moved to WA state and was under pressure to get a bed. So I bought one for $139 and asked about assembly. They said, "Task Rabbit; it's easy!" without showing me nor setting up the IKEA-task rabbit page. So I went to regular Task Rabbit and got robbed $700 for a man to assemble and learn on the job. Shewin R. charged me $88/hour for 7 hours. My credit card info was already registered. A drawer was damaged. I have filed a complaint with Task Rabbit and my Visa company. IKEA said they couldn't do anything. It would have been nice to have received a $50 credit for their lack of guidance and for my costly trouble. Updating my review.. 3 years later.. I really hope someone in the Ikea management reads this because you guys need to either hire new parking attendants or have actual Ikea employees working the parking lot. You'll see why.. I moved to Cali for two years and just moved back this month to find this IKEA mess. Apparently the parking lot was demolished to build a new Ikea. Once that is built then the current Ikea will become the parking lot.. That doesn't seem to make much financial sense to me since you can probably renovate portions of the store, but whatever. About a week and a half ago we came to buy some furniture for our new apartment. We drove into the parking lot, followed the traffic around one part of the lot and the parking attendant was waving us to go right - which is to the exit. I pointed to the left and she asked "What are you here for?" I said to buy furniture and she responded "WELL MAKE IT QUICK." .......I mean, okay. I'll try.. But why else would I be here and these are kinda big decisions so I can't exactly make it quick. Today we came to return the TV stand we bought (yeah, probably shouldn't have rushed that decision to "make it quick"). Again, they tried to route us out of the parking lot but after I told them we were doing a return they told us we could go into the customer service area. I made a wrong turn as I thought the second lot attendant was telling me to go left before the cone, rather than after, and this guy started yelling at us. (-____-") Everything was unloaded in the loading zone then I went to find a stall in the customer service parking row which has a 15 minute max. Well, I checked in on yelp while I was waiting there so when no cars were leaving I looked to see what time I had checked in: 20 minutes ago - and only one car had left (the car in front of me took that spot). I drove out and told the parking guy I couldn't find a spot so I was just going to find one outside since I unloaded everything and couldn't leave my car there. There were two open spots right next to us so I figured he'd just tell me to park there. But NO! He said "The lot is full. I can't allow you to turn left (to find a spot). You have to park at the offsite location and catch the shuttle." Me: "But I unloaded my stuff." Him: "You have to turn right." WHAT THE HECK! I ended up parking at a business across the street and walking over. Yeah, yeah, I know I'm not supposed to. I was, and at this moment am, pissed! Seriously, IKEA. You expect me to leave everything I unloaded and drive away from it, unattended, and catch the shuttle back?! I was lucky and had my boyfriend with me who watched the stuff, but the parking attendant didn't know that. What if I hadn't, and what about all the other people who are in the same predicament? I like their products but I end up in such a bad mood because of these ill mannered parking attendants. I'll only come back on a weekday night, right before closing, if I absolutely need something. I would totally give this 5 stars if it weren't for the randomness of what's available at this store. I peruse the catalog and decide- yes, this item will make my life complete- and go to the store to find- sorry, out of stock. The good news is they have a million other things you want and the prices are awesome but much like Target, you fill your cart thinking 'Oh, this is so cheap' and when you get to the register, you've spent like $200 when you came in for one lampshade. Definitely eat while you're here- the food in the cafeteria is all really good and cheap as are the snacky-snack hot dogs, coffee and ice cream on the way out. I will never again darken the door of the assembly required hell hole that is IKEA Renton. After purchasing curtains, I opened one package and discovered they were nearly sheer, which defeated the purpose we had in mind for darkening the guest room for our guests' sleep comfort. I barely unfolded the end of one curtain panel, noticed the problem, then refolded the open end and slid them back into the package. Upon returning them to the store one day later and with the receipt, the customer service associate unfolded both panels, drug them across the floor to her counter, scrunched them up, then went over them with sticky tape. I had no idea what she was doing, and I wondered why she unfolded the panel that had never left the original package. I replied, "You're warning me? Wow, thanks for the warning. I don't have any animals and my hair is less than 3 inches long, so I wonder how and from where these curtains could have ended up covered in hair, as you say...." She said, "I wasn't trying to be rude, just giving you a warning that you can't bring back soiled products." Again, I replied, "Warning and soiled? Great choice of words. Thanks for that 'warning' and for insinuating I'm a disgusting individual who would 'soil' curtains by wallowing my head in them. Are you trained to hassle your customers, or do you just hate your job so much you decided to do so on the fly?" She then said, "Well, I guess I shouldn't have done it then. You don't deserve your money back." I told her, "Keep talking, it's really helping solidify my loyalty to this store." We have shopped at this store regularly since moving to Seattle, and we have spent a fair amount of money over the years. Ikea Survival Guide 1. Do not go on a weekend. I know it's tempting. Resist the urge. You will be crushed by a wave of humanity. 2. $1 lattes at coffee bar at exit. Frozen yogurt is also a must. 3. One hour of free childcare. Once junior is toilet-trained, relax in the cafeteria with your $.75 cup of joe with free refills for an hour of kid-free bliss. 4. For the love of God, follow the arrows. If you attempt to go against the flow you will be crushed. Like a bug. 5. Don't try to park close by. Just let it go. You will not find a "good" parking space or you will end up in some sort of parking lot road rage showdown with a guy in a Humvee trying to take the last compact spot. Just release the need to park close by. Park in the second or third lot and stroll over while watching everyone else cruise the closest lot for a space they will never find. read more

I went to buy a bunk bed for my son. The check out line was fast, service was good. Home delivery was painful. They put 3 staff for return and only 1 person for delivery service. They serve the same person for over 30 minutes, I didn't know what is so complicated with his "delivery status"? What better way to celebrate the day by a long day of shopping? Okay, I didn't do that today. I live on the very tip of the north end of Seattle so thankfully, IKEA is not that close to me. I go here about twice a year and often come out with more than I wanted to buy but couldn't resist because it was a good deal. Story of my life. I never miss some of the cookies when I'm down there. I'm a sucker for those even though I'm not a big cookie person. I also stock up on items like light bulbs, random kitchen utensils, and invariably storage pieces that I neither need, nor will use. Over the years, I've collected a variety of large items from here. I have to say that when I was a student, IKEA was a lifesaver. That being said, I still have most of those items today so I guess that speaks to the quality of it. My dining room table is an expandable model which is nice when I have more people over. One of my favorite chairs is the Poang, which is so comfy and so easily identifiable. I was at a friend's house the other day and she had one and I couldn't resist sitting in it. Over the years, I've become fond of IKEA. I'm not a fussy person so it's basic enough to fit my needs at a good price. TIP: Bring a big car and plan to stay for hours. read more

IKEA is a dangerous place. Why you ask? You come here with one thing in mind and somehow you leave with 10! When I first moved to Seattle I got nearly all of my furniture here. I managed (in 2006) to furnish a one bedroom apt (not including kitchen items or bed) for about $2000. That was a lot of furniture and the delivery service was nice when you get 33 boxes delivered. The major downside to the furniture here is that you have to assemble it all yourself. When buying an item or two, not such a big deal, but when it's an entire apt its awful. That being said, I've never had a problem with having short of parts (screws, nuts, bolts, etc) and the furniture is still mostly holding up well. My couch has had some issues and some if the items have been chipped over the years, but 5 years later, my IKEA furniture is still serving me well. IKEA has just about anything you could imagine. They carry furniture, decorations, kitchen equipment, plants, food, really just about anything you'd need in a home. The nice part is too that you have some food options while shopping. The swedish meatballs are pretty good and the cafeteria area is fabulous. My only issue with IKEA is their push to be green lately. Why you ask? Because you can get a shopping cart when you enter (best idea) or pick up a yellow bag as you wander through. The bags are huge and can hold a ton. That is nice. However, you get to the check out and you discover that they don't have any bags at all. You're either stuck paying $1 for an identical blue bag to the shopping bag for your stuff. The bag is HUGE and I don't know what I'll ever use it for again, except shopping at IKEA, presuming I plan a trip there and don't forget to take it with me. I know it's good for the environment and all, but if I had known that before shopping, I would have grabbed a bag out of my car instead of buying theirs. read more

This is specific to IKEA's home delivery option for the Kent area. Most of this content was also posted to the delivery provider's Yelp page as well, but Ikea needs to own this disaster and make it right. I cannot believe that IKEA is pairing with Dynamex for delivery. Completely irresponsible. DO NOT USE Dynamex. I paid for same-day delivery when I bought my furniture at IKEA last Friday. I was told it would arrive between five and nine that evening. At 8:30PM, nothing. So I called IKEA. (NOTE: Not only will you have to listen to an interminable recording about a recall, from which there is no escape, you will, once you finally enter all your data, be placed on a long hold. The catalogs have just come out. Did IKEA anticipate that there would be more calls and hire accordingly? NO!) IKEA got in touch with Dynamex, and then put me back on the line. Dynamex had a truck problem. They should have called me to reschedule but they must have forgot. And, in spite of the fact that they are a scant five miles away from my home, they could not, for whatever reason, re-deliver on either Saturday or Sunday. Please wait until Monday. Dynamex will call on Sunday to confirm re-delivery. No call on Sunday. I called IKEA again yesterday morning. Once again, I had to wait through their very long recording and then wait on hold, and then on hold again as IKEA contacted Dynamex. To be told that Dynamex said that they never got the redelivery request. Total bull. IKEA, thankfully, had records to refute that. Dynamex then promised to deliver between five and nine once more. A supervisor would call to confirm. Yet again, no call. I had to search on Google to find a number for the Dynamex office in Kent, because if you call in to the toll-free number, and then ask to speak to someone in Kent, you are connected to a DISCONNECTED NUMBER! FAIL! Again I get apologies for not calling, but I was reassured that the delivery would occur. By now, I was extremely wary of promises. I call IKEA at 6:30PM to double-check, and am told that the items are on the truck and on their way. I live about ten minutes so I figure it'll arrive soon. WRONG! At 8:45PM I get a call from the dispatcher (in California!!) saying that the driver was out front. NO! He was not out front. The dispatcher contacted the driver and was told that when the driver got out in front of my home, he noticed that a rear tire was low and needed air, so he went to the closest gas station and would be back. WHAT IS THIS BULL? I finally saw voicemail on my phone after waiting for ten more minutes. From the driver. I called back, and he said he was three miles away; would arrive in five minutes. He did. FINALLY. At 9PM. He and a partner unloaded the boxes correctly, and as of this moment on Tuesday, we have found nothing broken or missing. BUT what a horrific experience. If you shop at IKEA and need delivery INSIST that they not use Dynamex. NIGHTMARE! You know, we ordered same-day delivery because we needed the furniture on Friday. Not Monday. So everything we needed to do was put on hold as a result. FML. I'm about to call IKEA once more to discuss what they are calling an accommodation. In plain English? A refund claim. I want the money I paid for delivery back. In full. FURIOUS. Oh, and if you think you can find an email address on ikea.com to contact them that way? NO. They indicate that they will take (a completely unacceptable) FIVE DAYS to respond to email. So you have to suffer through the recording and long on-hold times every time you call. Ikea, no matter where it is, is always an adventure. Even so, I got a little more than I was expecting on this trip out to scenic Renton this time. This Ikea location presents itself like the tower of Babel amongst the refuse of Renton strip malls. Its huge tower with its "IKEA" sign at the top is at least three times the size of any building for miles. I can only imagine the zoning meeting that the Ikea clone army of PR minions descended upon and demanded "We want a sign that will make weak minded people bow before it and worship. YOU WILL DO IT OR WE WILL DESTROY YOU ALL." Clearly they had no choice but to comply. The usual maze formation of staged rooms, screaming children, and representatives from every culture on earth but have come to pay homage to our Norse home furnishing overlords was to be expected. What I did not expect, after about an hour of chipping various bits from the iceberg of new-place-equipping, was that someone would steal my cart from under my nose ninja-like. Oh snap. I got ninja-served. :( I then stalked, like a cheeta chasing after the herd, my cart of to-be-possessions through the churning masses. I dashed up ahead only to find no trace. How could it be? Then, just as I was giving up hope, I noticed a flighty, twitchy, and confused woman putting some oven mits on top of what appeared to be my shopping list and earmarked catalog. "RAAAHHHHHHH!" was the bloodcurdling scream that escaped my frothing lips as I charged her wielding a hot pink toilet brush with both hands and bringing it down upon her. With my cart reclaimed and villain vanquished, I was free to backtrack in triumph to complete my hunting and gathering in peace. read more

I have had a very negative experience a with the delivery aspect of my Ikea purchase. I live only 1.5 hours from an Ikea store and driving there in Seattle traffic is not fun, so decided to order and pay delivery fee since items could be scheduled to get to my home in time for a weekend project. Items did not arrive. No notification from Ikea, I had to call to find out order late. Then order shipped and arrived one week late. Delivery window is 4 hours. no update day of to narrow that time frame down, so there for 3 hours waiting (not a big deal, I get that, but a phone call would have been nice earlier than 5 minutes from my house). Delivery people were not very informative. Stepped on boxes when they were unloading . Did not have a packing slip and had me sign forms before even realizing they were to confirm order complete. When I mentioned this, they said just call if something missing. Well, after I printed up my order (they had already left) I discovered that many items were missing. Then, when looking at items, the small packages (hinges) were not in a box, bags ripped open and obviously had heavy things placed on them as many damaged beyond use. We could not complete our project with missing doors and hinges. I have tried to call to report to Ikea many times last night and this morning, and not accepting calls. Tried to fill out form on line and need a "case number" to file it...I can't get anyone on the phone to get one! The only positive part of this experience was the customer service people I spoke with (when I called last week, somehow the calls went right through then???) to find out about delay. They were kind, courteous and tried to get information for me about delivery...not their fault the situation was bad. I expect delivery fee to be reimbursed. I am hoping to somehow get the items missing and damaged item replacements by next weekend even if I have to drive to the store. (not sure how since not answering phone and states email contact takes longer for response!) I would encourage Ikea to monitor and possibly change their delivery company. They were not respectful of the product. I assume should have had delivery invoice and did not. They were not courteous or professional. read more

I don't know if I have changed, or IKEA. I used to pine for IKEA, my first time was in Wash DC, and I was blown away. I have been to Phoenix, Oakland, and Denver, and it was like I would do a little jiggy dance when we would see one. My husband would accuse me of planning vacations around IKEA locations. So, needless to say, I was super excited to go the the Seattle IKEA. We walked, we looked, we looked closely at a few pieces of furniture, we navigated around families, and strollers, and we looked and walked some more. And, it was fine. But, the quality seems down. I don't see it as better than Target or Walmart anymore. I used to, but it's mostly just pressed wood and laminate now, just like the other two. I didn't eat, so I will say nothing about the food. And, I still like the kitchens, if I every need a new kitchen I will probably be navigating IKEA again. But, if I need a paper towel holder, or a small rug or curtains, I don't see the need to drive so far... which sorta makes me sad, because I had been so in love with IKEA at one point. read more

Yikes - Ikea, why on earth do you contract your delivery services to Dynamex? I ordered an entire kitchen from Ikea waited a month for the delivery date to arrive and took the day off work Thursday to receive delivery. Waited the entire day with no call from anyone, nor a call the night before which they are supposed to do. Called Ikea (the national call number) and though it was still during the published open hours the message said Ikea is closed. OK, so then I noticed that my invoice referenced "Delivery method: TRUCK via Dynamex". Found their number using Google and called them directly. The representative just said they could not deliver that day giving some weird reason. Got to wonder why they would not call me so I would not waste a day at home. So we reschedule for today - Saturday between 9 an 1 PM. I wait and no truck arrived, so I called them and again they said they could not do the delivery today either. At this point I'm absolutely livid. Dynamex have promised to deliver tomorrow so perhaps 3rd time is the charm?? This Dynamex company has 22+ reviews on Yelp, a 1 star rating and terrible reviews. My experience confirms that they really suck. Ikea, please fix this situation as it reflects so poorly on you. read more

The added bonus with buying any of these good returned items is that they're already assembled. Skip this section if you know exactly what you want, and go directly to the warehouse aisle your item is on. Not sure which aisle? Bring your catalog with you. Find an Ikea staff or a locator computer (in the main aisle area). Both are about equally as helpful. This method of approaching Ikea allows you to skip the madness of the showrooms and grab exactly the furniture you need without the maze. read more

Did you know Seattle (Renton) IKEA gets like 3 million visitors a year!? Did you know it is a major NW tourist destination? It's the largest single floor IKEA in the world! It is fun to wander through IKEA and envision what could be in your home or apartment... and then return home to your grandma's hand-me-down sofa bed and garage sale entertainment center that's held up on one side by a cinder block. I have been there countless times for various items, especially storage units, but have never eaten in their restaurant. It must be a fear of choking on a Swedish meatball and calling out "GAAK! With the construction going on, a trip to Ikea nowadays is pretty much like going to a sold out Seahawks game. If you don't get there within 20 mins of the store opening, expect a 5-10min walk or a shuttle ride to the stores entrance. And god forbid you buy anything large! Terrible customer service. It's been years, literally over a decade since we have been to IKEA. Now I remember why. We stopped by today to pick out some cheap shelving for our basement. Not only were they out of stock, just trying to navigate out of the store was crazy impossible. The associates didn't even bother to assist. We will never be back.
