A very different layout/floor plan from your typical IKEA! Being in downtown S.F., this "city" IKEA is for smaller items and purchases. This is a great place for college students in SF or those living in apartments to shop at. The place is super clean and has a few security guards out front. The employees inside are super helpful and friendly. The food court is solid and does the job and I'd say the best thing about this location is that it connects to Saluhall, the food hall next door. I think they should advertise their parking garage a bit better though. Some people want to drive for bulkier purchases and I feel like if people don't realize there's a parking garage connected to Ikea, it'll discourage them from visiting. read more

This review is only for the Swedish restaurant portion. I ordered the Swedish Meatball combo with drink and small salad. You order on the touch screen, and the food came really quickly. The food was OK and didn't taste super fresh, but that's how it is with quick service eateries I guess. I had to ask them for dressing for the salad, they didn't offer it. Once I asked, they gave me 4 dressing options which was nice. The portion size was small but it cost about $13 so it's not bad for the price I guess. I'd only come back if I want a quick meal or snack. The restaurant wasn't that crowded on a Fri evening at 6pm. The dining area was clean. read more

Tiny store compared to Emeryville. Anything not in stock would be ordered and shipped. That was a simple process for a chair and desk but I kind of wanted my purchase today. I have the time already to assemble now but I gotta wait. I didn't really like the multifloor layout. The show room was a nice setup to see various products in use. However my issue was finding the item in the upper floors. The items were scattered and some products were confusing to find the correct models from seeing the display. When I did find it, empty shelf space. Also the top floors have pretty bad air conditioning and feel hot even in winter time. This made shopping a miserable experience. read more

I am writing specifically about my experience with Ms. Huong(I hope I have the name right) at the returns counter. I went to return some plastic items that had been in my car for a while. She first deemed them dirty and asked me to clean them, which I understood was my responsibility, so I complied. However, she then mentioned that she needed to check with the manager because some of the items were plastic and had scratches. The manager came out to explain why the items couldn't be returned. I wasn't being difficult, so there was no need to involve the manager. I didn't contest the return at all, and a simple "no, we cannot accept the return" would have sufficed. Instead, the entire interaction left me feeling humiliated over items that had scratches simply because they were plastic. To add to the insult, Ms. Huong kept repeating everything to a fellow employee, making me feel even more uncomfortable. When I asked if she could validate my parking, she told me it wasn't available for returns. I explained that I planned to shop in the store, but she insisted that parking validation was only for online pickups. This was the first time I heard this policy, which was surprising because Ikea has always validated my parking in the past. Had she simply explained the return policy to me and refused the return, it would have been fine as I was not there to make a fuss. However, the way I was treated left me deeply disappointed. My mood was ruined over some inexpensive plastic items, and I won't be returning to this store again due to the way I was made to feel. Edit - I went to the Emeryville IKEA right after this because I no longer wanted to shop at the SF location. Not only were the staff much kinder, but they also accepted my return. I noticed people bringing in returns in damaged condition, and the Emeryville IKEA was still accepting them. I will never go back to the SF IKEA again. Emeryville is more convenient for me, being halfway between my location and the city, and frankly, the SF store no longer deserves my business. Wow, IKEA in the heart of downtown SF. Not something I expected would work out but actually something that's pulled off pretty well. There's a single entrance that is monitored by security on both the exterior and interior. Once you walk in, the first thing you'll notice is that it feels a bit more congested, but that's understandable considering we're downtown. The store itself, I believe, covers more vertical real estate than it does horizontal. It's still relatively spread out but the massive giant layouts aren't the same as a traditional IKEA. And additional thing to note is that it seems to be busy a lot so just keep that in mind when planning to visit. And yes, there is a food court with the much coveted Swedish meatballs. Disappointing experience at every turn! '1. can't drive down Market St to get to the location. After making several multi Street turns.. think large irregularshaped rectangle... end up in a seedy street full of homeless and drug abuse. This is the art with the parking garage. 2. Plan on around an hr viewing.... but wait...$20 , no discount with purchase.. flat rate after 5p weekdays, all day weekends. I came 3p Saturday...done by 4p.. $20! 3..physical appearance: store footprint is smaller than most, so you get a kind of clustering of items. Not very appealing, easy to get turned around. Personally, I onlu got through 1.5 floors. I had to use the elevator (instead of the stairs) and the location is like going to exit to get to next floor. After the second time...I was done. 4. Now I'm ready to check out with the few incidentals I picked uo. Go to the check out... it's self service with staff oversight... fine. First, hiccup while In scanning items an item won't scan. Helper bee runs over takes item. Says, can't scan because it's marked a display item. Ok... so she says, she'll run and get me one I can purchase. No problem... comes back with a new item.. guess what. Also flagged as a display. She ends up going back twice to find an otem not tagged as a display. For the curious, I picked item up where the bulk items were located. Anyway, moving forward...I scanned all my items and neatly packed them in my to go bag...under the supervision of two staff members. But, my purchase was randomly selected for verification check. Helper bee.. comes over, She sd this will be easy. I saw you scan your items. Pulls out three items for the check...system says they haven't been scanned and while order is voided. She must then unpack my bag and rescan all items. (OK, IRRITATION HERE) She unpacked and rescans....now system says, several items already purchased and unavailable for sale. When she finished total was lower by around $5... and the system says only 2/3 of items scanned. WTF!!!! To check out with the unnecessary items I had... it took three people, and roughly 10-15mins. This was the icing on the cake... of a once .. won't repeat shopping experience! 5. Positive: I was able to find workers for guidance on how to get out of the maze. And all the staff I interacted with where very helpful. I don't think this site will last.... not well thought out and most people use ikea for large buildable items. This isn't a store that should assume the clients take the bus. Just too hard to get to.... and for the record, "I'm the ideal client, I'm a SHOPPER...or shopaholic if you prefer". read more

I went to this new IKEA location a couple of weeks ago and I was highly disappointed by the experience. First off, I drove and was expecting that there would be free parking since and that was not the case when I drove into the parking lot that is part of the building there is a sign detailing the parking costs that clearly say $3. for 15 mins. $6. for 30mins.. I figured I would stay for a maximum of 30 mins. to get a feel for the store. I parked, which was not an easy task due to the spots being really small, and then took an elevator, and then a very confusing walk through a lobby and out to Market St., then into the store. When I got into the store I checked things out on the first floor and was disappointed by the lack of selections of things and I was hoping the other floors would make up for that. That was definitely not the case. Ot was also pretty confusing finding my way to the stair case to get upstairs. There is a bank of elevators but I wanted to actually see things on the different floors as I went up. The store does not have a nice flow to it, at all, adding more to more to the negative experience. I finally left and determined it's really not worth going there since there wasn't much to choose from and getting into the store is hard and the bad layout just doesn't make any sense. I was able to get out of there under the 15 mins. and expecting to only have to pay $3.. Well, when i put my parking ticket in the machine it tried to charge me $20. which is their early bird parking available after 5pm and in weekends, that's not what the sign says. I pressed the button to speak to an attendant and one came out and he insisted that I pay the $20. and I argued with him that the sign advertised what i said above and he was starting to get rude. So, to prove my point I got out of my car and walked up the ramp and took a picture of the sign and showed it yo him and he reluctantly reduced the price to the stayed $3.. It's really not worth the hassle and I strongly recommend just going to the Emeryville store where parking is free and you can easily get into the store from the lot. I needed to pass some time in the area, so I decided to check out the new IKEA since I have been seeing shoppers in downtown SF carrying IKEA bags with their purchases. This is an unusual IKEA, in that it's smaller overall and doesn't have its own parking lot, plus you have to navigate a bit more into the store in order to reach the cafeteria (if you were coming just for the food) and the dining area is very small. They sell some edible goods like chocolate in another section which is also pretty small; this location doesn't have a to-go section for ice cream, meatballs, cinnamon rolls, hot dogs etc. like the IKEA in Emeryville. I also had to get employees to let me into the bathroom, although the one who did was very friendly and was proactive with opening the bathroom for me when they saw I was heading toward it, so I appreciate that. There are still quite a few smaller and relatively more portable goods you can buy here, which makes sense given this is a location intended more for those who are traveling by public transit and would likely not be practical if you needed to transport larger, heavier furniture. It's a convenient location, but probably not the best if you want a larger selection and/or to be able to use the convenience of a car and you don't live in SF. read more

Not your standard Ikea, since it's designed to be more walk friendly (in the heart of downtown SF, you really have to be). You probably wont go home with big items like dressers or cabinets, but you'll definitely find the odd one or two small items you didn't know your house needed. Still, the maze-like layout was pretty interesting and despite only being three floors, they were able to cram in a lot. The pay lines get crazy long so I highly recommend downloading the app, signing in to your account and pre-scanning your items! Very disappointing. Ordered food at the Swedish Deli, waited an hour for the food. They ran out of mashed potatoes and substituted garlic bread without telling us. We ordered garlic bread and now had 5 orders of bread. One of the 4 plates we ordered was missing the cranberry sauce. Wow, this location is a scam, one of the worst experience after Sony customer support. We paid for delivery and they forgot to deliver half of the items. Then we called, they apologized and then they programmed another shipment for another day. And they forgot again. We never received what we paid and order after 3 weeks. Came here on a Sunday morning around 11:30 AM. The place was pretty empty and they were out of hotdogs and a few other popular items at the café. A lot of the products that they have on display are not for sale at that location so you have to order online or go to another location. If I would have known that I wouldn't have gone and would have made the drive to another location. read more

Love the new SF Ikea - we got a bed and a nightstand from there. Despite it's small size, the showroom in the basement had a ton of things - home and office - to look at and get a feel for. Also, because it's new - the high number of staff is super-awesome, and the number of people are lower. It's so much nicer than the Emeryville or the Palo Alto Ikea where you're fighting through a crowd everytime you go and can barely find any Ikea employees. The downside - no parking on Market, only a garage behind the Ikea. But it's easy to get there by bus and they're offering free delivery of items - for how long, I don't know. It was also easy to return a broken item - without having to drive over the bay bridge and fight parking, traffic and the long customer service lines (no line at SF!) HTH. read more

My husband wanted to check out this location, but I already knew it was going to a BIG headache. Getting there was a pain because of traffic and you have to PAY for parking. The garage is monitored, but in order for you to take your stuff in their basket "cart", you have to let customer service know and leave your ID with them until you return their basket. Btw - no actual carts are available. There's a lot of security and a "secret shopper" who isn't very secretive since I felt like we were being followed from one floor to the next. It was a very uncomfortable shopping experience. I get that it's in a bad part of SF, but I was ready to leave. Would I come back here? Definitely NOT. I'd rather pay the bridge toll for the Emeryville location or drive the extra miles for East Palo Alto. These locations are much bigger. The worst shopping experience of my life. The moment I walked in I felt eyes follow me. The sales people looking down on me with disgust in their face. Lp a male following me physically and with his eyes. Then the security woman at the door practically acausing me of stealing as I walked towards the registers. This was my FIRST and LAST time at ikea. I was racially profiled the moment I walked in. To be honest it was complety racial I felt so embarrassed and angry that I decided NOT to give my money to a horrible business like this. The registers were closed where I originally tried to pay so it was extremely confusing when the sign said gi upstairs to pay, which I tried to do and then get treated like a criminal with a woman practically yelling at me. Learn some manners. Please put your employees through sensitivity training. Also loss prevention need a retraing as well. I am a small lanldord and used IKEA ion Market St. to outfit a kitchen for an apartment renovation. They were great, but when my tenants moved in, they discovered the oven was broken. i was on the phone for 4 hours , (transferred 7 times and dropped twice) to schedule a third party repair. I had all the invoice data, order #, item #, date of purchase etc., but after a few hours I was told I coldn't schedule a repair without the serial number. Since I didn't live there, (and have a broken ankle) I had to wait for my tenants to come home and find and give me the #. the repair was scheduled for a week later. The repairman said he had never seen a problem like this before and would order some parts to try to fix it, but they did not know when they would get them or if it would fix it. Since I had tenants, I just wanted the new oven replaced. I was told it was a warranty issue and the warranty department would be back to me in 72 hours. They were not. When I called back I was told that since I bought the items in the store and not online, customer service couldn't order a replacement. The polite customer service person told me the store had to deal with it, but he did not have the store phone #. Then he told me I needed a photo of the oven to expedite the claim. I asked him why he ddn't ask for that when he asked for the serial number. The IKEA customer service process is very inefficient, frutrating and byzantine. It has been 2 weeks since the oven broke and still no end to the problem in sight. It is the last KEA project I will ever do... read more

I planned a trip to come in and get a bunch of things, but was blocked by this obnoxious band outside on 08/16/24 at around 5:30pm.
