Dined here tonight and had an amazing experience! The outdoor dining is great and the staff is extremely accommodative. I know some of the reviews stated staff didn't have masks but they were very diligent about keeping on masks and social distancing the entire time we were there. What a great place. Looked it up on Yelp for Valentine's day and read the reviews. So many high ratings and people were really raving about it, so I decided to make a reservation. When my wife and I got there, our table was already set with a lot of the freebies (bread, butter, salami, etc...) and once we were seated, the cheese wheels came out for a fresh cut of of cheese to complete the free appetizers!! the Apps by themselves would fill you up! They were great. They have a big menu and everything we tried was exceptional (Soup, salad, dinner entrees). Top it all off with desserts, Cappuccino and 2 Limoncellos and we were done for the night. Lets start off by saying the restaurant is very cozy, food is above average , service is average. I left a 2 star review because I felt we were ripped off . We had 10 people for dinner , right off the bat , they asked about beverages , we all agreed for bottled water . let the flood gates open !! There was 1 waiter explicitly there to empty as many bottles of water in our glasses as possible. It was almost funny to take a tiny sip and have him aggressively turn the bottle upside down to fill the glasses. Even when we were done eating , waiting for the check , he dumped at least 1 more bottle to top off all of the glasses , only to throw them out after we left , the Joke was on us , he ripped us for $80.00 for water , add the tax on and a 20% tip it ended up costing $103.00 . thats the same as 4-5 gallon jugs of water for a water cooler ! Needless to say , I had the last laugh , my friend that was with us was entertaining the thought of having is wifes birthday with 18 people . We chose Il Monello to have a celebration dinner for my Mom who just turned 90 years old. What a wonderful choice! We go out to eat a lot and there are too many great restaurants in our area to settle for anything less than perfect. Well, we were not disappointed at all! When I say that everything was perfect, I am being totally honest. All of our guests were pleased, and my Mom has spoken many times of how wonderful the staff treated us! You never want for anything at Il Monello. It is a perfect place for a celebration! And the food! My only problem with the menu is choosing what to order. They make everything! And the food was amazing. We will definitely return soon. I recommend this restaurant highly. read more

Wanted to go somewhere different for our anniversary dinner, so yelp searched. What a great find. Half hour drive from our house, but so worth it. The ambiance is awesome - quaint and homey. As soon as we sat down, we were served a bread basket with toast and warm Italian bread, with soft butter and an eggplant and garlic mixture, and a plate with sliced salami on another separate plate. There was a server walking around with a huge wheel of parmegiana cheese and he sliced off a large, long slice of cheese for each of us. All was delicious. The owner then came to our little section of tables and read off each of the specials, then proceeded to take our orders. As each order was taken, he took it to the kitchen. We ordered the snapper off the menu and a special pork chop dish that my husband had spied out a pork chop special someone at a table next to us was having. It wasn't on the menu, but he made it for him anyway. All was so good...the pork chop especially was so tender and melted in your mouth. So glad we found this place. Best part about the place was that it is a BYOB. Will definitely come again. read more

Great hospitality. We came in with no reservations and they were able to accommodate us even though it was a full house. The ambiance was fantastic, comfortable yet elegant. The veal parmigiana was so yummy. A giant cheese wheel came out in a cart - how authentic. The head chef offered our son dessert, although we politely declined to fears of conjuring witching hour the head chef wanted to make sure our toddler/son was satisfied before leaving the restaurant. read more

We had a lovely al fresco luncheon here. The waitstaff was amazing and Martino especially helpful and generous. Everything was delicious and homemade. One suggestion, the specials menu is too long to process orally. In this day of computers and printers, printing up a few copies of the day's menu specials (with description & prices -- so there are no surprises) is not that difficult and would be a real courtesy to your diners. read more

An extraordinary Old World Italian experience - I can't wait to return. My wife an I ate here on a dreary Saturday night in late October 2019. The second we walked in, we could hear tables speaking in Italian with the waiters - always a good sign. We're not Italian and that's pretty apparent. But, the amazing hosts and waiters made us feel like part of their family. The first course starts with appetizers and samples brought to our table. Next, ceasar salads - excellent. Our dishes were veal saltimbocca and chicken cacciatore. Both phenomenal. Service is the perfect level of attention. Reminds us of the finer Italian restaurants we experienced living/working in NYC. Il Monello is a leisurely European experience - a relaxed meal. Great ambiance and definitely perfect for a large group of friends or family. BYO wine. This place deserves more reviews!!!! It was honestly so good. They give you salami, warm bread and a zucchini spread to start. We got the fried mozzarella and meatballs to start it was amazing. Than we got spaghetti with vodka sauce and some chicken with spinach and mozzarella and potatoes, it was a 10/10. They are super nice here and it's a quiet cute clean restaurant. Also asked to have steamed broccoli for all 3 entrees rather than the mixed broc carrots potatoes. Then came 3 sides if steamed broccoli followed by a check which was $38.85 for the broccoli alone. Came here last night with some friends of mine and we had a great time. The servers were incredibly attentive and the food was fantastic. They started out dinner with bread, cheese and a spicy zucchini. The staff did not miss a single beat and was there to refill wine and water glasses when needed. Awful. Where do I begin? The reviews seem too skewed to be real. Surprised to see elites giving it good reviews. May need to double-check the credentials there. Chronological review: 1) called for reservation and they squeezed us in to an empty restaurant at 7:00 on Friday night. 2) patio was inviting, but rain pushed us into a musty (freezer burn or mold) smelling dining room with few patrons. If you are counting, that was two signals to turn around; unfortunately we stuck around like a bad cold. 3) Antipasto was atrocious. Honest to goodness, one slice of mediocre salami cut in four pieces, accompanied by stale bread and zucchini spiced hot enough to cover anything bad. 4) Service: poor; maybe 10 tables total with patrons, inside and out, and it was nearly a half hour before we actually ordered. 4) salad was a joke, and the crab cake appetizer , at $22, was not much better than a microwaved item from the frozen aisle. 4) "homemade" pasta entrees were given 3 stars and 1 star by my dining companion and me. The 1 star bolognese was not edible. The 3 star pasta entree was priced at $42. Total tab for this place was 3X compared to better fare at at multiple local eateries I would rate 4 stars. I haven't been to an Olive Garden for nearly 30 years, but I think I would eat at that pasta barn buffet rather than this establishment. read more

This place is special. Went with my mom tonight and it exceeded my expectations. Warm atmosphere and very attentive service. Great food- better than most in the area. They greet you with the best parmigiana you can imagine, bread, salami and eggplant. Then come the menus and a long list of specials, including homemade pastas. I have to say I am very disappointed because the food was great. However, the service was the worst I have ever had. We were probably sitting down for about 15 min just waiting for our menus, until I decided to ask the waiter we wanted the menus to get started on looking while we waited. There was either a language barrier or he just ignored me because he proceeded to set up another table for other customers that were waiting. The same family even got water before us. We had to ask for our water. Next, I ask again because I know I take forever and wanted a menu to get familiar with it. I then asked the owner. Not only was the owner not wearing a mask, but he was disgusting towards me. He asked me why I needed a menu? If I was in a rush. If I was in a rush, I was at the wrong place. I said no, I'm not in a rush. I just wanted a menu. As I was walking away, he said here are the menus and gave us two. Although we were four people, but two went to get the wine. I was very pissed off at that point. I was ready to leave, but I knew the rest of my party wouldn't leave. My boyfriend and dad got back from getting wine nearby, they sat down, and said were are the menus. I just said good luck getting one. We shared two menus for the 4 of us for a few min. The waiters and owner walked by and didn't even notice. My mom asked again for 2 menus, then the owner brought it kindly this time. He said to my parents that I kept asking him for the menu multiple times which is total BS. I asked once to him, and once to our waiter. They walked by our table multiple times, they had the time to drop off someone menus as they were attending other customers. On top of the owners rude attitude, you don't know the prices for the specials, it is very pricey, and personally it was difficult to even communicate with some of the staff because of their accents. I had someone else order for me because the owner was speaking so fast, and I'm also bad with accents. The owner made me feel uncomfortable the whole time because he never apologized and tried to justify his negative behavior. If you don't care about customer service, then you'll enjoy your expensive experience. However, for that bill, I want the whole package. I choose kindness and good customer service over food any day. Service was super slow. We didn't get our menus until about 25 minutes after we sat. One of us changed an order right away, but they still brought out the salad that was initially ordered. We sent it back immediately and explained she had changed her order. My 9 year old ordered spaghetti, but it came out with chicken on top. They brought it back with bits of chicken still on it. When I received my chicken scarpiello, I swear they took that grilled chicken and put it into my meal. The chicken was definitely not cooked fresh and was grilled pieces! My husband got the stuffed flounder special and said the flounder was rubbery. When the hand written check came out which was very hard to read, he had charged us for the salad saying she ordered it so he had already made it. He rudely accepted to take it off. I question the $26 spaghetti my 9 year old ordered and stated she didn't order with that chicken. He said he knew. I asked, "her spaghetti was $26?" He said, "yes." I just said ok in shock. He also overcharged me on my meal by $2 but at that point I just wanted to get out of there. Never again. read more

I live less than 5 miles from this restaurant and there are some amazing BYOBs in the area. This is not one of them. The food is mediocre at best. The $22 Crabcake was like a huge hushpuppy. It was ALL filler. We also ordered the mussles in a garlic scampi sauce, however it came in a marinara sauce that was totally flavorless. Then we ordered the "special" crab and lobster ravioli smh nothing but mush inside the ravioli. We were extremely disappointed because we haven't had a bad meal since we moved into this area. The waiter was nice but they were a bit short staffed. I gave it because the staff was pleasant and the atmosphere, on the patio, was enjoyable.
