How many people review doctor's offices? When you have a chronic condition and go see your doctor multiple times a year you get a very good feel for how good they are. I've watched this practice grow over many years. They have probably doubled in size, added doctors and nurses, expanded their building. Recently they opened their own endoscopy center attached to their building - no more going to a hospital to wait in line and pay exorbitant fees. You make an appointment, drive up to the door, and they whisk you away. If there ever was an emergency are fully prepared so expensive hospitals be damned. I'm not sure how many doctors are part of their practice - perhaps 20? I see one of them regularly and have seen a few others throughout the years. All are equally competent and knowledgeable. Their practice is friendly and warm and really show how much they believe in both quality of care, and the happiness of their patients. If you ever do need so see a GI doctor, this is the place in the Northwest suburbs to go. read more

Weve had Dr Sun as our provider for years for our colonoscopy. They've grown to huge practice which is fine but I recently was in the ER with severe pain and told to see a gastro. They would not contact her for me. Insisted I see someone else she booked for months. I've worked medical field over 30 years. The provider should always have slots for sick or emergency visits. The billing is a nightmare. My son went there and they billed out of network and trying to threaten him go to collections due to thier inability to correct there mistakes. Left messages for manager to call me. Never did. Ill call one more time before I report them for billing fraud. I'm about ready look for another practice. Too many issues. read more

My wife loves the provider. The business as a whole is criminal. The charge for items that are not provided. Their billing process doesn't follow their own rules. I received an invoice for service dated 1/26. On 4/16 I went to pay it on their online portal. It showed $0. Called billing - was told after 90 it goes to collections. There are 80 days between 4/16 and 1/26. I filed a complaint with the Attorney General Online. These guys need to be investigated. read more

Dr Kaplan is exceptional. However, his reception staff are loud, dismissive and arrogant. Receptionists are the heart of any practice by presenting that critically important "first impression ". However, it is in this area that this practice fails miserably. While entering the front door, the receptionist yelled out my name amidst a full waiting room, then condescendingly, "informed" me that I was REQUIRED to show up at 2:00p for a 2:15p appointment. I got an upper GI done and not only was charged $800 for the procedure (in network - ridiculous) but was subsequently billed $1000+ for other costs which were not remotely disclosed in our billing discussion. Worst experience I have ever had with any sort of professional service. They forgot to send in the test results to my insurance twice so my prescription we rejected twice. After constantly following up with them, never once getting any proactive update I am still waiting for my prescription as I write this. Its been a month... Also the experience I had with my visit was awful, no listening, no information, no instruction on post visit procedure, nothing. I would highly recommend you find somewhere else to go. I went in for a routine screening. I was to meet with a doctor but was told that he was not available and I would be meeting with the PA. I told them of my history. That i have multiple medical issues and have been on a multitude of medications for years that cause constipation, etc. She gave a prescribed medicine and told me that it would cause accute diarrhea. I never took it. After the proceedure I waited and waited for the doctor to see me, the nurses finally just started to wheel me out and low and behold here comes the doctor! Good news you have no cancer, no polyps but you do have a hemorrhoid. After about 3 months I got a $250 bill form the hospital. I have an HMO so I was very confused. They told me that it was a diagnostic proceedure so you are being billed so. I called the doctors office and explained that it was a routine colonoscopy, they didnt care on bit. My guess is that they get a kick back on that....I will never go back to this place EVER! Probably never get another colonoscopy either...they screwed me, in more than one way! read more

Dr. Gluskin is very thorough, knowledgeable and empathetic. He gives you his complete, undivided attention and doesn't rush through your appointment. He explains everything in terms that you understand and is one of the kindest providers I have ever encountered. I have many chronic, and some rare conditions and fully trust in Dr. Gluskin. The office staff display the same attributes as Dr. Gluskin, which shows me that he leads by example and the standards set by this GI group are very high and all patient centric. I wish they had all the specialties I need for my health conditions , because they would be my choice for all. I had worked in healthcare over 30 years and have experienced all levels of care and experiences, but none have ever been as positive, reassuring and pleasant as any and all interactions with this group. read more

Be warned. I was a patient here for 15 years and this place has changed to horrifically bad. Maybe this is since they were acquired by GI Alliance? They told me they were still in the Blue Cross network, and I have had numerous procedures with them so I trusted. After seeing I had an incorrect balance for my office visit, I called Blue Cross directly and they said they were NOT in the network. I had a colonoscopy and upper endoscopy scheduled a few days away, and thank God I checked in on this or I would have been no the hook for THOUSANDS of dollars! When calling them on this, they still tried to claim that they were in the network! Obviously I canceled my upcoming procedures and now my issues are going to be prolonged and I need to find a new provider. I also need to mention that the receptionist at my office visit was rude, bitchy, and impatient. Can't remember his name but at the time I had to hold back from giving him a piece of my mind. I called to make an appointment with a doctor I have never seen, based on his ratings. To my shock, I was told that I was dismissed from this group, which I never even went to, which makes this all the more improbable, in 2014. That is 8 years ago. I asked what doctor was I seeing who initiated this dismissal, but was denied any information, which I believe is a legal violation. I said I wanted to speak to the Manager, and I had to pull the name of the manager from her, with only a first name provided. I did not receive any call back. I would run a million miles away before EVER dealing with this horrid GI group. read more

I am very upset with this group. First, I had an appointment for a Colonoscopy and had organized a visit to see my father on the East Coast (with Stage IV Colon Cancer) and they called a week before my appointment in Chicago and said they had to move it. Then, they talked me into getting an Upper Endoscopy because I have Anemia and told me it would be $850 out of pocket. Turns out, it was $620 on top of that because the original amount was only for the use of the machine. All of this felt incredibly dishonest and like a complete scam and I told them this but obviously they just want their money. I received very little information regarding the results and I still have doctors asking me after over a decade of tests and appointments, "Why do you have anemia?" as if I'm the medical provider and not the patient. I also had to call multiple times to see if they could provide results to my GP. They asked me to come in after this incredibly large copay and I just know there would be a hospital fee tacked onto the office visit fee and another $600 easy on top of everything else. Who do they think they are kidding? Like I could ever trust our health care system again! read more

I waited for this appointment for a month. As soon as I walked into my appt there is an older blond lady up front yelling at me. If you don't have your referral letter I can not see you. First of all, if I didn't have referral letter I would not be waking into this office. Second of all, I came to see the doctor not an angry old lady. I was so upset that when nurse measured my blood pressure it was high. if she was professional and she supposedly a receiptionist, she call and get the referral letter from my doctor. I am here cause I am suffering ... I didn't not come here to get yelled by unprofessional old lady. And she told the nurse that she was scared to talk to me!!! What a nerve! Bad experience with both my spouse and I. My spouse has had chronic lifelong constipation and was a patient of doctor is this group. All they ever told him was drink lots of water, eat fiber and have Metamucil. Which he did every day with no easing of problems. After years of being with him, I realized this doctor was not doing anything and his constipation was getting worse. I realized they were not putting in his files the chonic-ness of his issues. I pushed him to switch doctors (with a different group) and now he is doing much better. Then I needed my first routine colonoscopy and went to a different doctor but with Illinois Gastro. I didn't have an issue and the doctor was fine. However, making my appointment was a hassle, I never got my prep information until I called, the paper was not updated with times to take the prep materials. My appointment reminded came after my appointment. Post procedure info was lacking. Whereas my pre appointment and procedure info was lacking, I received 1 text, 1 letter and 3 emails within two weeks of my payment due date, with two weeks still until due date. It clear where their priorities are. Not recommended. read more

If I could give them zero starts I would. This is not a professional doctors office. They coded my procedure wrong and continue to send the incorrect information to my insurance provider. Good luck getting anyone to actually pick-up the phone. They use AI for everything. If you have a billing issue, forget it. My primary care doctor recommended this group. I am thinking about changing my primary care doctor for being associated with Illinois Gastroenterology Group. The more I think about it...now I know why the doctor performing my procedure was so interested in what I did for a living. He was trying to figure if he could overbill me based on my income. Two things stand out. My GI, Dr. Kaplan, is wonderful. Highly skilled, very informative, kind, great bedside manner, knows what he's doing. His office staff, not so much. They never call you back, they don't schedule appointments, and are often rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. I feel bad for Dr. Kaplan, because he deserves more professional staff, and i'm certain their conduct has cost him some patients. His patients deserve better treatment from his staff. read more

Bait and switch. You go in for screening which is coded screening and this company changes the insurance code to diagnostic if they find anything then you get $150 co-pay! I called another Dr in the area and they do not do this. I have had 3 colonoscopies and this is the first to charge me. I was surprised since insurance said 100% covered but there are exceptions to the 100% covered, wow!!! As if insurance isn't confusing enough. I worked with Illinois Gastro for 25 years. Since they were acquired, their service has declined dramatically. They don't answer the phone, give out incorrect information, reschedule appointments without consent and are otherwise generally obnoxious. Just today, I was on hold waiting to speak with their administrator when it turned noon. My call was cut off and they switched to answering service until 1:00. Absolutely no regard for common courtesy to patients. read more

This practice needs to implement a new appt system. I was referred to Dr Kaplan by my pulmonologist. Called to make an appt. "All schedulers are busy with others, please continue to hold, if your hold time is longer than 10 minutes, leave a message & we will call you". After trying 3 times to get thru, it is obvious there are no schedulers that actually answer the phone. Decided to stop in the office, since I was driving by. A woman at the desk, in front of a computer asked for my name & number. Someone will call you in a couple of days. Huh?? She said they are backed up. Seriously? How can she not get an appt scheduled?? Do you wait for a couple of days for someone to call patients for follow up appts?? How does a dr office operate like this? Hello, red flag. I will contact a different gastroenterologist office for my appt. I am sure they will answer the phone. Update: called a gastro practice in Hoffman Estates, very helpful woman answered & got an appt scheduled for tomorrow. Thats how a dr office should respond to a patient seeking an appt. Doctor was good, but she coded my procedure wrong and Alexian Brothers hospital has charged me $2000 because of it. It was a procedure that was a 5year ROUTINE check. Nothing was found, but I was charged anyway. I've called that office more than a dozen times, leaving messages. On the occasion that the Office director answers, she keeps telling me "she's working on it", but after 2.5 months, nothing is done. All she has to do is redo the form and resubmit to Alexian, but apparently that's too much work. BC/BS reps AND my primary Dr. never heard of an office doing that. If something is found, then yes, I would be charged, but nothing was found! Their office policies are not transparent or upfront. They're hiding who's in charge to be able to go over her head. I'm calling the Attorney General and my lawyer. Ridiculous fiasco. I wish I never went there. read more

Making the initial appointment was easy and the person that I talked to on the phone was very helpful. On the day of the procedure, I was taken on time. The procedural preparation went smoothly and each person that took care of me explained everything that was going to happen. The procedure itself had no problems, and I was given good instructions to follow for the rest of the day. Any questions I had were answered and I had no problems that evening. When trying to reschedule my colonoscopy, I was told the following requirements would have to be met: 1. That I have to drive to get tested for Covid 19 on Hicks Rd. in Palatine, IL which is not at all close to my home 2. I would have to self quarantine for 3 days in my home. 3. My wife would not be allowed inside the facility's waiting room and that she would have to wait in her vehicle or go somewhere nereby to wait for a call as to when she could pick me up. These requirements are ridiculous and unnecessary to say the least! It comes across like they don't trust that you are safe even with a mask on and not having any signs or symptoms of Covid 19. This is hardly the place I would want to go for a colonoscopy. read more

This is the worst practice ever. I had a terrible stomach pain and the lady on the phone told me that she will schedule an online appointment? How is this possible I don't have a sore throat. This clinic is a waste of time. The receptionist was also super rude. With or without pain this is a stomach and there is no way to check the pain level or bloating by video call. Dr. Victor has been my gastro doctor for about six years, and he also takes care of my son and my daughter. He does a wonderful job explaining results, and he is always timely in calling me himself- yes, he calls me himself. He is extremely knowledgeable and meticulous in his delivery of information, and he is an overall kind, considerate, and self-assuring doctor. Dr Bernsen is a phenomenal doctor. I am speaking as Dr. Bernsen's patient but also as a medical provider. I came to see Dr. Bernsen for second opinion after seeing someone else for 7years. I was hesitent of leaving my previous doctor because you get attached. However, I knew I was not getting the symptom relief or quality of life I deserved. My ulcerative colitis was simply not treated. Now, boy am I thankful I saw Dr. Bernsen. For the first time I saw a light at the end of my tunnel. If anyone has moderate to severe ulcerative colitis, you know how bothersome signs and symptoms get, how drained and hopeless you can feel. Long story short, you do not feel yourself. Can't enjoy food, have normal bowel movements, plus your social life, mood and sleep is affected. I'm thankful because Dr. Bernsen took care of me. He offered me medications my previous provider never mentioned. And after 1 tablet of prednisone Dr.Bernsen prescribed, my symptoms improved drastically. I can not say enough of how thankful I am of getting my life back. All my ulcerative colitis signs and symptoms resolved after incorporating a new treatment plan. This is the worse place ever if you want to know what is ailing you. I had the experience of working with Ganka, APN. She said my results were negative and that I was normal. There was nothing normal about my condition, so she clearly does not listen to the patient. I had to stand my ground and she relented and I had another test done and it showed I was not normal. If it wasnt for me diagnosing but unable to order tests, I had no idea who was going to do it because they were not interested in the patient or their business. Then, after the first abnormal test, I had another. This time they said it was normal. I finally went to another specialist because I didn't feel confident with my care. Lo and behold, after sending all my results to another specialist, the last test performed was indeed abnormal! I would not trust them with my life and that's pretty important to me , so I want to tell all to beware. They don't tell you everything and they are not professional. read more

My experience at this facility was one of the worst ever. I read many warnings from review sites, but I chose this facility due to the distance. My first appointment was put on hold for a long time until a staff member finally came back to talk to me. Then my second appointment was made at the doctor's office and I got yelled at by a staff member when I wasn't sure which room to go in to make a follow-up appointment. One of my appointments, a resident came into the room and watched over the entire procedure which made me uncomfortable. I was not aware of this facility was university hospital related. On top of that, this place sent me an additional $4,000 bill statement for the following 2 more testaments a year after my original appointments explaining that it's a facility bill. If I knew the treatment was going to be increased, I wouldn't make any further appoints with them. Overall, I don't have any good experience with them and would never recommend anybody. read more

My doctor was Ronald Bloom and my second visit turned out to be my last. I came in for a visit for stomach issues and the doctor spent the majority of the time complaining about the offices new computer system and spent little time trying to address by issues.
