    chicken sandwich so good!
    Joanne V.

Absolutely, adore this place! It's small, cozy and the food is amazing. The kimbap is fresh and the sandwiches are flavourful. I don't usually like going too far from home, but this spot is totally worth the trip. I've also heard great things about their egg sandwich - can't wait to try it next time!

Natto roo kimbap + sweet potato tiramisu

Illo has lots of unique variations on kimbap and other Korean meals, with a focus on healthy ingredients. They don't just have savoury food, but also fruit sandos and tiramisu in different flavours. Keto and vegan options available. It's mostly takeout, but there are a few seats available if you'd prefer to eat in. The person who took my order was very nice. I tried their natto roo kimbap and sweet potato tiramisu. Both delicious. The natto roo has a shorter list of ingredients than most of the other kimbap, but the flavour of the natto carried it so it wasn't plain at all. The pickled radish added a nice pop of tartness and sweetness and the creamy avocado complimented the natto well. The brown rice and mixed grains filling that they use in place of the traditional white rice also enhanced the flavour. The kimbap was surprisingly filling. The sweet potato tiramisu was also delicious - the roasted sweet potato added a honey-like flavour and interesting texture to the tiramisu. Their tiramisu are apparently made with "less sugar" but this still tasted indulgent! It was so big that I saved half for later - it would be a perfect portion for two to share. I thought the prices were super reasonable for the excellent quality! I wish I lived closer so I could keep coming back.

The newly opened Kimbap cafe offers various kinds of kimbap, as well as sandwiches and salads. The kimbap ingredients are very healthy, with lots of vegetables, some protein, and lower carbs compared to those from other kimbap shops. What I got: Chichi kimbap, Cooked Tuna with Mayo, Burdock, Carrot, Egg Wrapped with Homemade White Kimchi. Homemade white kimchi was a bit sour. No doubt, tuna is one of the best ingredients and goes very well with the vegetables. It's one of my favorites. Soy Salmon kimbap,Soy Marinated Salmon Sashimi, Cream Cheese, Cucumber, Carrot, Burdock, Radish, Egg on 5 Mixed Grains with Wasabi Mayo. Cream cheese was so good with the salmon and also paired well with the other vegetable ingredients. Very delicious Lemon Basil Chicken kimbap, Steamed Chicken Breast, Spinach, Cucumber, Carrot, Radish, Egg on 5 Mixed Grains with Lemon Basil Mayo A very healthy choice. I really liked it when I had it with wasabi-mayo. Spicy Pork kimbap, Spicy Honey Pork, Kimchi, Cucumber, Carrot, Burdock, Radish, Egg, Pickled Pepper on Brown Rice with 5 Mixed Grains and Korean Style Bean Paste Sauce Actually, this one is spicier than I expected. If you like spicy flavors and protein options, I recommend this item. Egg Maniac sando, Homemade Egg Salad and Medium Boiled Egg Visually impactful, with both boiled eggs and egg salad together. Perfect for lunch Strawberry and Mango fruit sando.Mango & Strawberry with Fresh Cream The mango was ripe, the strawberry was a bit sour, and there was a lot of whipped cream. I really liked this item and ate it as a dessert. Overall, I really like this place. It is very good for take-out kimbap as a casual lunch or dinner. I will definitely go back to try different items on my next visit.

First time I spotted this place was while I stayed at the hotel in the same complex area. It isn't something easy to see from the road, but there's lots of great Asian restaurant options hidden amongst that complex that seem to be always very popular. The night I actually made it in before closing, I had to use great restraint when selecting the dessert being that I was dining alone. Even the ladies that walked in around the same time I did, had an incredibly hard time choosing their desserts. This is due to fact that the portions are definitely made to be shareable for a lot of their menu items and really, unless you're extremely picky on flavours, they all sound like amazing combos. I therefore opted to reduce my selection (and dessert size!) by going with a cake slice from the display (wish I could recall what it was as it seriously hit the spot) & a lovely hot beverage. The place fills up quickly but does not have that usual crazed rush one feels in other coffee shops & bakeries that are only open earlier in the days. They have various sizes of tables & it definitely felt like this was a social hub for the under 30s (again, dessert was so amazing, that I didn't even care that I felt oldest in the cafe ;) I also found it interesting with how young the crowd was in there, that people were legit visiting more than on their iPhones or laptops (maybe the lack of outlets fostered this?). They have one unique 4 seater table (tractor like) & stools that I kicked myself later for not realizing it was something to use (being a farm kid in a big city, you can imagine quickly what unexpected happiness level it was to see those tractor seat stools too). The parking is plentiful just past the cafe & there's also a parkade. The place is accessible & I even think most would be able to use the washroom with minimal challenges. There seems to be a back door towards the sidewalk but looked closed by the time I was there that late at night. I will definitely be back to enjoy solo dessert time or a good visit with friends (as I definitely would like to try some of the shareable menu items!).

I got a mango bingsoo and it was okay. It was quite expensive ($15 single serving) but I think that's someone standard for bingsoo these days. Pull apart was lighter than I expected. Other place's pull apart was so buttery, cheesy, however, this one was flaky and buttery, so, if you prefer light texture pull apart, you will like it. Cream cheese filling was nice accent. Pistachio loaf was more dense than I expected. It had pistachio whipped cream on top, so, cream helped loaf texture more smooth. Loaf had strong pistachio flavor. I liked whipped cream and loaf combination. Pesto and mozzalera swirl was a bit too salty for me. Dough was super flaky and buttery, I liked the dough texture so much, but filling could be more minder. Unfortunately, I did not have ferrero rocher danish. I heard that this one was the best. Mousse was so delicious and dough was very flaky and buttery. Overall, I think their pastries are always outstanding and good quality. The place was extremely busy and could not get a table. Next time, I wish I could dine-in.

What I got Banana Bread Croissant Flaky layers wrapped around rich banana bread, dark chocolate, and a sprinkle of toasted coconut. I visit here very often, however, I haven't bought croissant for a while. This special item's dough was not buttery and crispy texture as before. It was a bit too light and airy. And Banana bread filling was very thin slice.. Not sure their patisserie chef or recipe has changed I can't judge based on only 1 croissant, I must try other croissant item to compare.

Unfortunately, its quite hard to find marzipan in the lower mainland. So you can imagine that I was quite excited when I saw they had one on the menu. At first glance the chocolate drizzle on top looked too little, but it was just the right amount. The all butter croissant was perfectly flaky. I heated mine up in the toaster oven for a few mins. The amount of filling that was inside amazed me. However, it would have been more enjoyable if it was more spread out, instead of a "log" of filling. Also, after warming up the pastry, the bottom was extremely oily. So oily that it was literally dripping. The meringue on the Lemon Meringue Bar was a bit deflated and dry. The lemon flavor wasn't overly powerful. The Mango Bar, mango flavor was very mild. I would have liked to taste something a bit more prominent. Also, I didnt like thay they added so much sugar to the Graham Cracker crust. The Spumoni Bar tasted mostly of coconut, but the bar was super flavorful and tasty. The Cheesy Bar cheesecake texture was nice and light. The Fruity Bar was very tasty. Although I wouldn't say that it tasted like strawberry. I liked the crunchy texture from the white chocolate covered rice krispies. I liked the Matcha it could have used a touch more matcha, but I know not everyone likes a super strong matcha flavor. My top picks would be SpumoniBar, Matcha, and Fruity Bar. However, I feel that all of the bars could use more flavor. Additionally, I would like to note the fantastic customer service that I received. I had a dog with me and she has major separation anxiety. One of the staff members noticed us and was kind enough to offer to watch the dog while I quickly ordered inside. I would rate the croissants 4.5 stars, the bars 3.8 stars and the customer service 5 stars.
